People see things from different perspectives .Dangote was launched in Nigeria and is now taking over the continent and the world took notice. If you like ,locate Eldorado and migrate there,as long as that country has natives,or ethnicities that are naturalised there, you will die a foreigner without the full rights accorded its own.
No matter who is in power, how do you ignore a market of 200Million people.Just watch out for the billionaires lists of 2028,there will be many more Nigerians but I can almost bet that absolutely NONE of them will be ressident in Canada,USA,UK or Australia.Prosperity is in the mind and has nothing to do with location.I live in Naija and I am overwhelmed by a faithful heavenly father.
U have a point...
While it's much easier to to attain a successful middle class life abroad....
The only place built for a Nigerian to become a billionaire is nigeria.....
Funny enough, Nigerians in diaspora understands this more than those at home....
Of course they face institutionalised discrimination regularly n they well know the eventual outcome....
Even 2nd n 3rd generation Nigerians here complain of invisible glass ceiling.....
That's why we all must come together to build Nigeria.....
Restoring the dignity of that country is a task that must be done.....
And it starts from restructuring.....

just wondering what pple think of nigeria...u pay high rents in those countries abroad. u make just enough to cater ur expenditures. thanks to exchange rate that give them leverage over nigerians only in nigeria. maybe there are things am missing here...well many opportunities abound there but e no reach to regard ur formative years in nigeria as wasted.
Pls if u 've got a well paying job thank God for your life....
Cos u won't be under any pressure to think of abroad as an alternative....
Who will not like to be in nigeria if it works....
A country where a graduate earns 30 thousand a month n u want him to be happy....
No social cushion, No institutional support of any kind....
Very harsh and hostile environment with workers being owed for months....
Canada is so cold n lonely, yet securing it's visa is a testimony to most nigerians....
There's nothing to be proud about as a Nigerian....
Even my Pakistani friend here in uk once told me nigeria is a big disappointment.....
The only time an average nigerian can enjoy that country is if he's fortunate enough to attain the most senior/executive level of his career...
At that level, he's almost at par with his foreign counterparts as far as renumeration n comfort are concerned....
Most people attain that level well into their 40s anyway when the allure of abroad would have diminished.....

BusinessRe: CBN To Unveil Naira-Yuan Swap Deal Operational Framework Next Week by SIRTee15: 11:37am On May 23, 2018
dryakson:
IN CASE YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND

I know Most of You don't know the meaning of Nigeria naira/yuan swap with China.. And why American government is desperately smoothing their relationship with Nigeria.

This is a clearer picture of the deal and it's effects on our economy and way of life.

Soon, you may be buying that techno phone you bought at N80,000 for N12, 000 .

The Central Bank of Nigeria have finally signed the currency swap deal we have been expecting for the past 2 years with the Chinese government.

The importance of this is that since almost 70% of the goods we import come from China and Asia and only about a meagre 12% come from America, why must we use Dollars to transact with China?

Thus, with the new deal, instead of using dollars at N350 to 1dollar to import those goods, we can now buy Yuan at 47 naira to 1 Yuan and import those stuffs directly. Therefore, Instead of buying these goods in dollars in China, we will now buy them in Yuan at 5 times cheaper than their dollar rates.

Meanwhile, it should be noted that China is now the highest importer of our crude. This means that our trade with them can be on Naira/Yuan basis.

This is a giant stride that our media needs to disseminate. It's a great achievement by this administration in its effort at repositioning our economy.

This may be a reason why our past selfish leaders may not want Buhari to continue in office to protect their families who are beneficiaries of high forex rate.

Of course, with d new deal, d demand for dollars will nose dive, with an attendant crash in its price.
From tomorrow, try to monitor exchange rate. Some of those guys who hoarded foreign currencies to make gains will off load them in order not to have heart attack over their huge loss arising from the currency swap deal with china.
Dollars and pounds will flood everywhere with no buyers, as the buyers will draw naira from their accounts in banks with presence in China.

Many NIGERIA banks will be seeking to have their representative office in China like first bank who saw to the future and already have office in China.
Inflation will go down drastically because of the price of commodities that will drop.
But yuan against the naira will also rise
Maybe triple than what it is now....
The pressure will simply be transferred from dollar to yuan...
On the long run frustrated importers who can't get their hands on enough yuan will still purchase dollar...
I don't really see any remarkable gain....
Except immunity of our foreign exchange reserve to dollar shock....
Remember CBN will need to start building a yuan reserve to meet the demand...
And I really don't know how cbn will do that unless we begin to sell our oil in yuan....
And selling oil in any other currency apart from dollar is inviting trouble from America.....
Jonathan tried that and all he got was boycott of nigerian crude oil, boko haram insurgence, blocking of arms sales n chibok scam....
American simply frustrated his govt until it collapsed.....
The long term target for naira rise n stability should be diversification of our export....
Thus measure will only result in short term gain due to panic selling n buying....
Right now I heard abokis are desperately trying to dispose the dollars in their hands n are refusing to buy pound/dollar except at below market value....
America fustrated

MrBigiman:
SIRTee15, with all due respect, has said his own. His assertion did not negate my point. Consultancy as Johesu is fighting for is not the same as is internationally obtainable. For example if he really is in the UK, he knows that Radiologist approve radiological investigations and radiographers are ordered to carry it out at the radiologists approval. If it's not approved the FY2 doctors which I get he is can walk up to the radiologist and impress on him why the test should be done. Radiographers in Nigeria say they are Autonomous. If not for the Police, they last year entered hospitals and harrased Doctors doing sonography.

Lets call a spade a spade.
First I'm not F2....
Foreign trained doctors don't join the medical cadre at foundation level, except u are yet to complete ur housemanship from ur home country.....
I didn't fully grasp ur analogy but u don't need radiologist approval to get basic investigation done....
U talk to the radiologist in cases of MRI, urgent CT, intervention radiology or u need him to report an x-ray....
Why do u need a radiologist approval to order CXR....
just send the form to the x-ray department n the radiographer gets it done... .
I'm sure u don't submit routine x-ray forms to radiologist in nigeria.....

Here I know radiographers report x-ray and they do have consultant radiographers....
I see their names on CXR report quite often without any radiologist addendum....
Sincerely, I'm not really sure to what extent is their scope of work n how much autonomy they have.....
The other day, I met a naija female radiographer in the dept n we spoke.....
She told me they have an independent dept n her HOD is a radiographer. I can't really verify such claim but it's irrelevant anyway....
NHS has a different structure when compared to naija hospitals.....
Managers run n control things here not health professionals, so the post of HOD or whatever doesn't hold much power when compared to naija.....
Everybody including consultants are answerable to managers.....
But one thing I know is radiographers in uk are more engaged when it comes to clinical duties...
They even perform echocardiography which I initially thought was exclusive to cardiologist....

Welcome development.
Doctors are always paranoid over pharmacists in Nigeria, that's why they are fighting against that very versatile and prestigious profession but they will keep failing.
That's how they are trying to bully our nursing profession because it's mostly dominated by women,
Medlab, pharmacy guys will deal with them grin grin cheesy
.
They should come and start awarding nurses consultancy role.
Oriaku Amarachi
Consultant in pepper dem nursing.
cheesy cheesy
.
But seriously, consultancy in pharmacy will be of great and positive benefit to the health sector.
I'm a doctor....
But seriously I don't see anything wrong in consultancy position in other professions....
In UK there's even consultant clinical physiologist in the hospital....

My fear is other profession desire it just because of the prestige of being called a consultant not the responsibility attached to it ...
Here in UK, consultants work like hell, they see their patients everyday....
They are always on ground n it's important u make urself visible at all times....
Except if u are off duty....
They even teach junior doctors n present topics....
Specialist nurses both in hospital n in the community are also hardworking n can be counted on to contribute to patient's care if need be.....
They do a lot for patient's with chronic medical conditions....
If consultants n specialists in whatever profession in naija are forced to work in exact manner, I doubt if those position will be desirable....
Although it will really go a long way to help patients...

The only way a doctor can maintain an edge over others is to upgrade.MBBS alone won't do it .You must have SKILLS that other do not have.

Treating chronic conditions like epilepsy, asthma , High BP, are areas that increasingly other professional will compete for.
Same for acute conditions like malaria. With modern technology this will only intensify

Yes there is a turf war goin on. The way to fight is is not by bluff and bullying but to convince the market.
I do not see much future for the MBBS only cadre because many others can do what they do cheaper.
A doctor will always have his place.....
The edge is simply the doctor knows something about everything.....
Most other allied professionals have restricted knowledge as it pertains medicine...
No patient comes to the hospital complaining of hypertension or malaria or asthma....
A symptom or sign brought them.....
Headache could be anything.....
So also is breathlessness or fever....
It would be foolish to think all fever is malaria....
Or to think all epigastric pain is due to peptic ulcer....
That is why in all acute condition, a patient must be refered to the doctor....
That ability to conceptualize clinical scenario and nip it to specific disease condition is what defines a medical doctor....
Something even a robot or AI can't do....
I agree chronic medical condition can be refered to other disciplines.....
I even believe other allied professionals will do a better job at long term care of patients with chronic medical conditions than doctors.......
Why should a doctor bother himself with a patient with long term stroke....
He should see his physiotherapist, stroke specialist nurse, speech n language therapist n dietician if he's got problem with swallowing.....
Such patient should only be refered back to the clinician if he's got an acute on chronic medical condition....

Now as per naija health matter....
Naija doctors are just being blinded by extreme n unnecessary ego problem.....
Nigerian doctors need help to carry out their function satisfactorily.....
They just don't know it.....
I'll write a detailed exposition on this matter sometime later....

since when was making the right Choice ever easy and lacked the risk of persecution or death ?? Hard choices will always be tough as the phrase implies .

And no, the increasing African slave population was becoming a great concern to southern whites, which is why, with many modern ploys like outlawing new African imports, whites developed the 6-shooter revolver. Even while outnumbering whites in many southern areas, i guess their Choice to run, fight,or kill themselves became even harder. Nothing has changed, slavery and cowardice goes hand and hand.
Nope...
Only two states had more black population n that was towards the aboiltion period - Missisipi n south Carolina....
Overall, slaves constituted only 14 to 18% of total amercan population at any given time....
Black slaves were simply outnumbered....
Even free states will not tolerate any form of slaves uprising in pro slaves states...
The US govt will bring in federal forces to crush it....
Read about John Brown, the violent abolitionist, a white man for that matter......
Despite the odds, there were over 300 black slaves revolt in america during this period with varying degree of success....
But the eventual outcome was ruthless suppression of the revolt with fatal consequences to both culprits n innocent black slaves....
The only choice to slaves who desire freedom by all means in those days was death....
And Yes, a lot of them chose death......
Example was Margaret Garner, who chose to kill herself n her children rather than allow slaves catchers return her to slavery while trying to cross the Ohio river....

PoliticsRe: Senator Shehu Sani Invites Kanye West To Visit Slave Ports In Africa by SIRTee15:
AnonyNymous:
Lol

You see something about me, I'm always on the "wrong side" of popular opinion.

As for Kanye West. I don't agree with anyone calling him an Uncle Tom. AKA a "House N*****". Basically, a black man that supports racist whites. And I think you must be really stupid if you think he is one, because all through his career, he's always made a point about how he, as a descendant of former slaves, made it in life.

Now to the topic. He said, "You know, after 400 years, it starts to seem like a choice". I think you should watch the whole video for context. It helps.

His point was pretty obvious. On the plantations in the Southern parts of the United States, where slavery was predominant, over time they'd grown to a LAGRE population and outnumbered the whites controlling them. I mean, the population ratio was probably like 50 blacks to one white supervisor. They had the physical strength. And they weren't chained anymore. What stopped them from launching a revolt and overthrowing their oppressors? There were revolts, but only by a few people while the rest of the scared slaves hid in fear of "Massa" (Master). Another thing that contributed to their fear was the religion they were taught. They were given Bibles and brainwashed. I mean, there are actual portions in the Bible where the "Almighty God" supposedly regulates slavery.

In essence, they were mentally enslaved as well, and therefore made the choice to remain in those shackles. Physical chains might take away choice from you, but when you're mentally enslaved, you have a choice to free yourself. You have a choice to wake up.

Harriet Tubman, a hero of the black slaves and possible face of a new US currency bill freed thousands of slaves through the "Underground Railroad". She made the CHOICE to emancipate herself from mental slavery and she escaped. She came back also, to free thousands of slaves. And she has a famous quote:

"I freed a thousand slaves, and I could've freed a thousand more, if only they KNEW they were slaves".

When listening to Kanye West (or anybody, for that matter) with an unprejudiced mind, the points he was trying to make were really clear. I'm happy that he made the effort to clarify himself AGAIN, on Twitter, but even at that most of the replies were unintelligent memes and people regurgitating the same "He said slavery is a choice blah blah blah". Only a someone with a 'half-brain' would actually think that he was implying that black men voluntarily chose to leave Africa to be enslaved in a strange land.

Unfortunately, there are too many dimwitted people in society today, who only feed on headlines and never apply critical reasoning to understand the content of the message being passed. We had a similar situation over here with the #LazyNigerianYouth hashtag.
Pls never u say slavery was a choice....
It's an insult n inexcusable ignorance to regurgitate such statement....
During the slavery era....
It was a very serious offence for even a white man to help a black slave escape from his master.....
Such white man could be jailed....
As a slave u can't even escape to free states in the USA without proper documents stating u are a free man....
U will be arrested n sent back to bondage....
Even free black men were kidnapped and sold off to deep south as slaves.....
Such people couldn't challenge their free legal status because blacks weren't allowed to stand or give witness in courts....
They become slaves forever....
Pls go n read Solomon northup memoir - 12 years a slave.....
not the movie but the book.....
Slavery was regarded as an integral part of the southern state's very existence....
Slaves were officially seen as personal properties n nothing else.....
Any attempt to deny the owners of their property is fiercely resisted.....
Solomon northup owner was so angry n bitter when the sheriff came to free Solomon....
He said if he had known they were coming, he would have killed northup, he promised to find out who helped Solomon n get him killed.....
Slavery then was an established institution with strong legal backing......
Opposing it in form of revolt or activism was regarded as an assault on the state...
In 1861, the white southerners rather chose to go to war than give up slavery....
They lost over 300 thousand of their own people before they finally gave up....
Black slavery was never a choice, it was an obligated evil blacks were forced to live with....

And please the population of whites in slaves states far outnumbered the black population at any given time during the slave era.....

Universities don't want financial autonomy....

From the bolded, how will the so called expert get the funding from FG? when the government is already complaining of insufficient funds. Don't forget that many universities are already venturing in other businesses to augment FG subvention, what will be wrong if they are allocated a viable oil well that will provide enough fund to run the school and relieves government and parent of students rather than just enriching an individual.
On your claim of anarchy in the system, VC's and university council are appointed by the government with a tenure, they can easily be dealt with, a recent example is what happened at FUNAAB, the VC and council chairman were removed and arrainged.
I think giving oil wells directly to university is wrong...
There's no guarantee the university staffs will use the fund judiciously.....
What we need is quality control n effective monitoring in our institution......

I fell in love with a colleague, we started out as friends. She always asked for financial assistance and I do sort her out sometimes.
On a certain Friday after work, she asked me to buy yam, potatoes and onions on my way to her crib cos we planned seeing after work and my place is very far from hers.
Got to her place past 8pm wit her yams etc, we both went out to buy fuel for her gen which I paid for, then returned to her place, ate togeda and started gisting.
At exactly 11:46pm, she asked to know wat time I intend to go bak home and I was surprised!
This babe changed it for me and said I cnt pass the nyt in her house. I was beyond embarrassed!
I called a friend to come n pick me wit his car and he did.
I left her place with few drops of tears. I was seriously hurt.
Why should u pass the night in her house....
I don't understand....
Are u guyz dating...

You are missing the point. The banter is cos it worked out for some of the people here.

They are only trying to emphasize on the need for creativity. Coding alone doesn't cut the deal.

You can teach a person to code but you can't teach them to think...
It starts from somewhere....
Teach them the basics first....
Then those who are passionate about programming will use it to solve real problems....
U guys are cynic.....
Please don't come n use ur bad belle distort the minds of people interested.....

PMB is ready to meet all of Tinubu's conditions to win the election and thereafter dump him as usual. I only pity those governors who initially opposed the comrade. Their actions have been noted for future sanction. The man no dey forget those wey work against am o. They will get their full payment at the appropriate time. As for Tinubu, if he thinks he can use him as a puppet, he is in for a joker.
Na him I dey tell people, dem dey follow me argue....
Tinubu has a self inflated image as regards his political clout....
If he doesn't learn from his mistakes, he's bound to chop sand again....

Story.

His direct influence doesn't go beyond lagos and osun? But by influence APC became a party and GEJ was defeated. Your calculation on issues relating to Tinubu is zero.
If Tinubu wan chop sand make him chop sand, who no go chop sand and even turn to dust.
APC is a merger of ACN, nPDP members n CPC....
Tinubu's ignorant assumption that he singlehandedly built APC was checkmated during the national assembly officers election.....

Hmmm....
So do u think tinubu can control oshiomole....
Look here...
Tinubu might be a political strategist n prominent statesman....
But his direct political influence doesn't go beyond Lagos n maybe osun.....
Tinubu will continue to chop sand in national political affairs if he fails to acknowledge his limitation....
The seemingly influence he's enjoying right now is because of buhari's 2nd term.....

Naija youths are not lazy but they have this annoying entitlement mentality....
Like, everything should just fall in place for them without putting much effort.....
Look at how this one is ranting as if mikel obi is obligation to help just because they are relatives....
The same way they believe Nigeria should solve all their problems simply because it's an oil producing nation....

They won't use their brain to think of pragmatic n feasible solutions to their challenges.....
How about the youths coming together n brainstorm on establishing a form of geriatric support system for the elderly in the community.....
Whereby elderly without financial means get the care n support they need in old age without being a burden to their children or the younger generation....
Is the above not a better plan than harassing the likes of mikel obi up n down.....

Its great to see Nigerian youth in diaspora discussing the challenges facing the country and proffering solutions....
You could see the passion and the strong desire to make a change in the debate.....
The lady that spoke in 7.40 minutes depicted one of the fundamental flaws with Nigerians and Nigeria itself.....
Lack of respect for fellow human and regard for human life.....
Another lady in 13.04 warned about the danger of fragmentation against foreign power....
I think the younger generation has what it takes to turnaround this country
We are better informed and more exposed than the older generations.....
We are beginning to understand the problem....
We should get our head off the sand and effect the change we want....
we have better tools at our disposals, thus no more excuse....
