how does the state of south Korea change the fact that north and south are still at war?
It's a cold war.....
North korea should see this as an opportunity to develop its country....
That's the best propaganda weapon to bequeath ur citizens against the south....
Not nuclear weapons.....
Soviet union built more nuclear weapons....
That didn't prevent its inevitable collapse.....

and north Korea owns a nuclear bomb, iicbm and a nuclear rocket that can reach the united states and giving China,Japan and its neighbours a sense of worry
And how does that help it's citizens....
Industrialise the economy, commit to market reforms, open up the economy to foreign investors, improve the living standard of your people, encourage capital inflows, promote an export oriented economy n see your country on the part of unprecedented prosperity....
Who nuclear bomb help....
This was the nonsense oil rich Iran also embarked upon in the 1990s n 2000s claiming they want to develop.....
They wasted 2 decades focusing on a venture that benefited nobody. In the process, enduring international sanctions that greatly affected the country's economic growth.....
Whereas, it's neighbours UAE n Qatar were building a truly prosperous economy via peaceful means around the same decade.....
The jury is out with the result n we are all witness to the verdict.....
I don't know any country that attained prosperity by building nuclear bombs.....
Most weapon producing industry are not even profitable n majority are struggling, relying on govt contracts n patronage to survive.....
Pls, let's stop supporting stupidity in the name of whatever....
North korea has great potentials n that punk of a guy will do well to learn from his china n veitnam neighbours......

Burns of these magnitude are not managed in general hospitals....
It's simply beyond them....
I think the problem lies in a poor referral system.....
Sending from one general Hospital to another shows lack of an efficient referral structure in Nigeria....

Nigeria will be foolish to allow SW secede...
SW is the gateway to Nigeria n without an alternative, it will be like refusing renal dialysis to a patient with complete renal shutdown....
SW remain nigeria economic powerhouse accounting for 70% of non oil revenue.....
The Lagos port is responsible for over 90% of imports.....
While 70% of nigeria manufacturing is located around the lagos-ogun axis....
Of course the oil will remain with nigeria but the continuous reliance on SW for supply of essential goods n services will make nigeria more or less dependent on SW....
So, who will miss who undecided undecided undecided undecided
PoliticsRe: Regional Autonomy Or Self Determination: A Way Forward For The Yorùbá by SIRTee15:
Now another big issue bothering on restructuring amongst yorubas, is whether we can survive without nigeria vis a viz naija delta oil.....
Now let's get something clear, all regions in nigeria can survive independent of each other....
Every region is endowed with both natural n human resources required to build a nation.....
If only we can turn away from Abuja n look inward.....
Every region is indeed blessed....
We should not because of oil insist on this acrimonious union......
It's glaring to even the blind that it's not working......
Thus no gainsaying that Yoruba can survive alone and progress at her own pace towards a prosperous n viable socioeconomic pathway......

I understand that the misgovernance of our present leaders has sowed the seed of doubt among our youth.....
But we need to get something clear, the future n prospect of the yoruba nation is bigger than some bunch of clueless n self-serving leaders.....

Yoruba fear of the unknown can be best described as the Stockholm syndrome.....
We know we are trapped but we feel it's better to survive in this captivity than take our chances n chart a new and independent course.....
That's so wrong on so many levels n this mindset must be crushed.....
We must liberalize our minds in order to know who we are n what we are capable of achieving as a nation.....

Yoruba best days was during the regional era of the 50s.....
We achieved a lot of firsts n an unpredecented prosperity......
Those legacies are still very much visible today......
Not because awolowo n co were genius or saints....
No....
Rather they undertook radical initiatives n bold steps that were beyond the scope of their time.....
They were men of Vision n mission.....
We've all heard about the universal free education embarked upon by Awo....
What we didn't know was as at the time the initiative commenced, there was no money in the vault n the region couldn't afford such project......
No adequate schools to accommodate the huge number of pupils to be enrolled....
there weren't enough teachers....
No adequate uniforms n pupils had to share notebooks in class.....
Some felt it will bankrupt the region.....
Despite all these seemingly insurmountable problems, the program kicked off and eventually became a phenomenal success......
Also in that era, when the western world wanted us to focus on agriculture.......
Awo practically industrialize the whole of ikeja to ilupeju, building numerous Industrial estates......
This remarkable initiative was replicated in so many yoruba towns, such that there no major town in the region that doesn't have its own industrial estate.....
When the issue of power tussle along ethnic line reared its ugly head in UI n unilag, Awo simply built a world class university in ife......
As at its completion, it was regarded as the most beautiful campus in Africa......
We achieved all these without any oil money but from resources within our region......
Now what have we achieved with oil money.......
Nothing much, I'm afraid....
Then, don't u think it makes sense we go back to a formula that worked for us than stick to an unworkable formula....
I keep saying it, SW was the worst hit with this present unitary govt.....
It sets us back, stagnated our development n allowed other regions to catch up.....
When we look at things holistically, we've lost more than we received from this unitary system, it is a net loss for SW.....
And I think it's time to demand for that which worked for us......

I'll come back n talk about the youths n osinbajo factor.....

Lol. This is not logic. It wasn't Lagos that was the capital but Lagos Island? Lololol. More like Abuja is not the capital of Nigeria but just Asokoro. It's not Ikeja that is the capital of Lagos but Alausa. Lol. I won't even argue this or any of the others.
Lagos state was never the capital of nigeria....
Lagos comprising Victoria island, ikoyi, Lagos island, n the marine side of mainland was the federal capital....
90% of mainland was part of western region....
Awolowo built all the industrial estate in ikeja and not the FG.....
western region was later divided into Lagos state n western state in 1967....

The only tribe that possesses the vitality and energy of industry ,at the moment, are in the east. But it is a point of fact that this quality is made useless by their apparent lack of political will.

The Yoruba have an exaggerated view of themselves in relations to others. There is 'their own version of superiority' over other tribes in Nigeria .
Pls if u have nothing but hateful spite to contribute, can u please excuse this thread with ur straw man argument.....
The topic never claimed superiority over other tribes....
But detailed everything wrong with the Yoruba nation n the way out.....
I wonder why some people will suddenly develop convulsions anytime the sacrosanct of the nigerian state is called into question.....

Now to the topic.....
I think there's no other time for the Yoruba nation to demand for regional autonomy than now....
We need to come together n speak with one voice over this issue....
This is not the time for any division along partisan line or personal interest.....
The interest and progress of the Yoruba nation must override any other personal ambition.....
Yoruba biggest problem now is the set of political leaders presently at the helm of affairs led by tinubu.....
I've never seen a set of Yoruba leaders as selfish n incompetent as these ones...
They lack foresight, too complacent n all they care about is building their own personal political empire....
They run an extractive economic system that hasn't brought much fortune or prosperity to Yorubaland.....
This was a departure from the inclusive economic system that was the norm during awolowo era n Yoruba governors during the 2nd republic.....
because u wonder why ondo state which is the only oil producing state in SW should be owing backlog of salaries.....
Osun state future has been completely mortgaged with non performing loans n it will take maybe crude oil selling at 450 dollars per barrel to deliver them....
Now all these was made possible because Yoruba leaders for the first time, fully embraced the retrogressive feeding bottle arrangement of sharing revenue n embarked on wasteful spending without any care for tomorrow....
They failed to look inward, instead focussed on Abuja.....
They joined the band wagon of depending on federal allocations to get things done, they saw the citizens as burdens rather than assets....
They refuse to invest in both human resources or capacity building.....
Of course, there will always be consequences.....
We now have governors who doesn't care if a university is shut down for 9 months.....
Internet fraud is now the biggest employer of labour among the youths....
If SW doesn't pull out from these present unitary system of govt, we'll continue to have these problems....
Governors who doesn't see the need to be held accountable because their main source of revenue is from outside the state....
They also don't see reason to prioritise workers' welfare because ur coming to work is inconsequential to how much enters the govt coffers.....

It is very obvious that you are either ignorant or outrighly childish.

You Buhari becomes a better business than GEJ because he agreed to the concept of cattle colonies when, according to you, GEJ had already invested money in.

Doesn't that make you dumb?

So a concept GEJ had already invested in is what is novel to Buhari and that makes him better than GEJ?

how old are you?
GEJ invested what....
Where are the colonies...
Where are the cattles bred on the colonies...
Show me a state that already has an established cattle colony despite 100 billion naira disbursed by Jonathan.....
The money simply disappeared....
While Mr otuoke looked on...
Look here, it's ok to be sentimental.....
humans are sentimental being....
But don't let it cloud ur sense of judgment....
GEJ isn't fit to be a business leader.....
Or any leader in whatever form....

he's more of a diplomat...

And I wonder why people resort to childish rants n insults when confronted with superior arguments....

luvinhubby:
So you will hire a Buhari over a GEJ because Buhari is an ethnic supremacists, that makes you an ethnic bigot my dear.

Which of the above fabricated qualities have Buhari demonstrated so far and give examples.

Waiting patiently........
Buhari understands the principle of self preservation.....
A very important factor in the longetivity of a business.....
Most businesses don't last long in nigeria because their owners don't understand this principle.....
Now remember we are not talking about a good national leader....
So the issue of ethnic bigotry doesn't arise here.

Let's take the cattle colony as an example.....

Buhari may not have heard about it....
Cattle colony is only practiced in Pakistan.....
But it seems like a good idea to him as regards his vision for fulani hegemony.......
See how he's pursuing it like his life depends on it....
Hectares of land has been set aside...
Funds have already been allocated......
States who are interested are getting prepared...
The ministry of agriculture has began sensitization....
By ending of 2018 pilot projects will kick off...

Now jonathan doesn't look like someone interested in cattle business....
However the embraced the cattle colony concept during his tenure.. ...
He released 100 billion naira to states to fund the project....
And that was the end.....
In the first instance, why should u release such huge fund for something u are not keen about.....
Have u ever seen buhari wasting his time on things that doesn't interest him....
Nobody even knew such money was allocated for cattle colony in GEJ time until Audu ogbe spoke about it....
Jonathan never called to question states governors on the use of such funds...
He never demanded for accountability or probe on the issue....
My otuoke nigga just let it slide as usual.....

I beg u in the name of God.....
Pls never give ur business to someone in the person of GEJ....
If not for anything, pity ur employees n their families that will be thrown into the Labour market after GEJ successfully ruin the business...
That guy is better off as commonwealth secretary general or something like that....

I voted for him both in 2011 n 2015.....
Not because I believed in him or anything....
But I felt niger delta should be allowed to rule for 8 years....
At least they are the goose that lay the golden egg.....
And I knew buhari is a tribal bigot anyway n would definitely show his hand once elected.....

I'm sure you'd also hire Shekau to run your business because he's committed to building a Caliphate in Nigeria not minding whose ox is gored.

Some of you need to be examined to find the id**t gene.

Based on credentials, qualification and record of performance on previous similar office held, anyone chosing Buhari over GEJ for such an office is doing so purely on 'man-know-man', i. e, bigotry.
sorry o....
but if I have a business, I will never hand it over to GEJ...
never.....
he just doesn't have it in him at all......
he looks more like a guy who would function better behind the shadow.....
maybe deputy director or VP without portfolio....
something like that.....
a role that doesn't require critical analysis and logical reasoning.....
the guy lacks depth, poorly exposed, a bigot himself and obviously clueless....
he's not smart and quite dull....
not insulting him but really that's who he is....
he will most likely be unaware if the business is doing poorly....
he doesn't look like someone that can control his surbodinates.....
contract kicbacks, projects delay, gross insurbordination, lack of administrative discipline, procurement inflation, funds misappropriation and mediocrity will be the norm in his tenure.....
and the funny thing is he may even be oblivious of all these vices....
I wouldn't trust him managerial decision at all....
GEJ is just like that poor white guy in madea witness protection....

look here, if me and buhari are on the same page as regards the business mission and vision....
I'll definitely choose him over GEJ....
buhari understand the principle of self preservation and will never watch while the business crumbles....
look at what he's doing as the president....
he's using his seat of power to pursue the dream he believes in....
The self preservation of his Fulani people in the territory called Nigeria....
and he's pursuing it selflessly and rigourously.....

buhari is not aso rock to enrich himself, or his cronies or his family...
unlike GEJ who made his wife the most powerful woman in Nigeria....
Buhari has no plan to make Yusuf the next governor of katsina......
he's not interested in becoming a godfather after leaving office....
rather he's more keen in entrenching and preserving the legacy of the Fulani in Nigeria...
and u will agree with me he's doing a good job at that....

that's what makes him a good business manager....
he's man of steel and will....
he gets things done even at the detriment of others not minding whose ox his gored....

the problem with buhari is he doesn't believe in Nigeria...
which is unfortunate because that's why people voted him anyway....
and maybe that's why he should be voted out.....

After all the education you get on Nairaland, you are still saying nonsence. You are one of the people that claim the article is too long and someone should summarize them.

I can understand and appreciate this. But if state governors looked inwards and capitalized on their unique strengths, they won't need to go hand in cap, and over decades, can assert more and more of their own independence and authority (which is really only possible with growing economic strength). This would actually be much more productive than the calls for restructuring which - by itself - won't put food in peoples stomachs, or suddenly result in great healthcare.

You mentioned the existing constitution was carefully negotiated by the federating units... including the ones clamoring for break away. Weren't they the same who agreed to the Constitutions, and to be bound by them?

When IPOB was doing its own nonsense last year, I said the same thing... Igboland would be much better served focusing on improving economic conditions, and grooming its children so they become part of the ruling elite. As an example: an Igbo child is more likely to go into trade than to go into government administration. Conversely, you'll find a lot of Hausa/Fulani children going into the civil service as recruits/clerks/porters/guard/cleaners. As the years go by and promotions are made, the core of leaders in the civil service will consist mostly of people in the civil service (i.e. Hausa).

Yes, there is solid evidence of Northerisation agenda, as made explicit by Sir Ahmadu Bello (who I respect for his position and efforts towards his people, yet am sincerely disappointed in his positions towards people like me not from the North), and being continued till this day under Buhari.

Nevertheless, I think we have made great progress away from the mindset of people born before Independence. I think we owe it to future generations of Nigerians to continue to seek more fruitful ways of nation building together, rather than seeking the exit at every opportunity, in spite of whether we were thrown together in a marriage of convenience or not.
No need for rhetoric....
The present unitary system isn't working...
It makes states non productive....
How can we be sharing the wealth of a nation based on land mass, population n number of L.G.....
It makes no sense....
If states are in control of their own police force, fulani herdsmen wouldn't enter a community and massacre over a thousand at will.....
States governors have their own share of the problem but centralisation of power really limits their ability to get things done in their respective states....
Look at how federal policies destroyed the TINAPA project in cross rivers....
F.G ineffectual port policies ensured we have only two fully functional ports in the country both in Lagos leaving the rest redundant ...
Look here, so many things are wrong with naija n the fundamental flaw lies in getting almost everything done in Abuja.....
That thing called exclusive list must be ripped apart and any state bold enough to take charge should be allowed to chart its own course independently.....
There's nothing wrong if states are allowed to keep 100%
revenue from farm produce exports....
Don't u think that will motivate governors to do more for agriculture in their respective states......

Look at someone who said that the IPOB route leads no where but went on to write absolute nonsense. How will Yoruba representstives bring about restructuring? It does not matter how many times they raise the issue on the floor of the national assembly, they will never have the numbers to vote it into law.

Infact, even if the entire representatives of the SW/SE/SS in the national assembly came together, they still would not have the two thirds majority needed to vote a constitutional issue such as restructuring into law.

Restructuring is mainly a Southern Nigeria thing which is opposed by the North, and they have more than enough reps to vote against it.

At least with Nnamdi Kanu, the world saw agitation, massmobilisation, support and so on. Thats what gets result.

This talk of restructuring is a waste of time. If you want something in Nigeria, you have to agitate for it like IPOB or just forget it
no need for insults, ok.....
now agitation, mass mobilisation, international support are momentum that must be galvanised into a specific direction....
IPOB did well with the above, but at that critical moment when strategic thinking was needed, they messed up big time.....
They shunned much needed collaborative effort, instead created an avenue for enemy within and made themselves vulnerable to attacks.....
In case u don't know, it was the ibo leaders that called on buhari and his goons to get rid of Nnamdi Kanu....
When it comes to agitiation against established status quo, u don't take unilateral actions all the way....
else all your efforts become fruitless....

ask the never ending brexit leaders.....

Restructuring can only be achieved when the 2/3 of 36 state house of assembly vote yes before it is taken to the national assembly and 2/3 majority of the national assembly vote a yes on it
Now this is not possible because the north east and north west are against it but if the south can stand as one with the middle belt then its achievable
forget all these calculations...
the single most important thing needed for restructuring to happen is for the southern elected representatives to speak with one voice and impress it on the nation, that restructuring is the sole demand of their people....
just imagine if a politician like Dino Malaye takes restructuring seriously....
imagine the ripple effect in that national assembly....

Your submission have strong potentials of breaking guinness world record of the highest combination of fallacies in a single comment.

Did you know the first slave owner in America was a black man? - Anthony Johnson.

Did you know whites were slaves too?

Did you know the Black people fought for the Confederacy along with their white counterparts? (Read up). These brave men fought in the trenches all under the Confederacy Battle Flag.

Did you know the word 'Slave' stems from 'Slav'? i.e a reference to the experience of millions of (white, yes white) slavish people who endured centuries of slavery at the hands of African Muslims.

Did you know as many as 4000 black families in America alone owned slaves in the Antebellum South far before your ancestors were born?

Did you know several other Europeans of various backgrounds were enslaved by African Muslims as well?

All these facts are heavily documented. However, if your interest lies in throwing around empty generalizations without any modicum of historical knowledge, kindly knock yourself out.
Anthony Johnson is a typical example of everything wrong with a black man.
This was a man who was released after completing his own indenture, yet was the first man in America to own a slave for life...
he refused to release a fellow black man, John Casor serving under him.....
rather he approached the court and pleaded that the judge should enslave Carson permanently.....
amazingly two white guys convinced Johnson to release carsor, he refused....
that judgement set the tone for subsequent permanent enslavement of blacks in America.....
blacks who fought under the confederacy flag were few anyway.....
but these were wealthy landowners who own slaves themselves and doesn't want to lose their human properties...
its amazing it took the collective will of white people to end the enslavement of blacks.....
while white people were shedding their bloods on the battle ground for blacks to be free, some blacks opposed the freedom because of their selfish interest....

I keep saying it....
blacks generally lack the principle of self-preservation....
we fail to look beyond today and personal self-aggrandisement..
we cant just come together to get things done for the common good of our community or race.....
individually we excel but collectively the black race just cant get it right......
look at our nations, nothing to write home about....
someone has said maybe we should give our women a chance to take the lead....
altogether I don't think its a bad idea cos if u look at those video....
I find it difficult to believe our men are any better....
its men that build civilisation, but so far black men have failed in that regards...
maybe we should try our women....

Frankly speaking, most of them don't know a thing about how the constitution work and why we have the constitution...

Restructuring can only take place when the NASS consent to it....Buhari is a president and can't do the works of the House!
Yoruba elders shouldn't follow the route of IPOBS.....
It's a road that leads to nowhere...
Lack of strategic thinking was the bane of nnamdi kanu and his IPOB group....
The names I see there are educated personality who command great respect in the country....
Let them approach the Yoruba representatives in both house of assembly n deliver these message to them....
Yoruba people wants regional restructuring.....
Now let these representatives consistently raise it on the floor of the house....
Then the rest of us can back suport them and mount the pressure on the presidency....
The truth remain neither buhari nor the northerners can stop restructuring if we the southerners sincerely demands for it....
Waiting for buhari or sultan to call for restructuring is futile...
Nobody will do your job for u....
What I see is that southern politicians are not keen on restructuring and only pay lip service to the call....
Moreover, we southerners are also not interested in this change.....
because if we do, we will only send politicians interested in immediate restructuring of this nation to Abuja....
And if they fail to deliver the promise, we vote them out.....
I wonder what's so difficult about that....

stop generalizing and yeah all those escapes you are talking about, do we not regularly see them in Nigeria. slavery is not necessarily physical but the breaking down of a person mentally and psychologically. even you that is commenting can be broken down to become a slave. my guy go through that situation and fight back not coming online and commenting.
Yes, slavery is achieved when the victim is broken down mentally....
The captors' aim is to ensure the victim perceive humiliation, subjugation n domination as part of survival.....
Thus, the victim is ready to accept anything just to stay alive.....
Now it takes the collective will of the captives to prevent this phase.....
It's not a battle u fight alone.....
Individually, u can't resist slavery or domination.....
Remember a whole broom can't be easily broken compared to a single broom stick.....

When europeans came to africa for slavery, they targeted areas that lacked centralised governance.....
They knew those people lacked the ability to rally around themselves n resist the kidnappers....
When slaves get to America, they don't put same tribe on the same plantation....
The whiteman knew common language amongst slaves is a catalyst for rebellion.....
Those guys in Libya crying like babies, don't they speak a common language....
Yet everyday they watched as their dignity is ripped apart n their mental status destroyed....
One of them even admitted he watched as his girlfriend they travelled together was brutally gang-raped to death.....
Black people in general lack the principle of self preservation.....
We are too docile, individuality n obsession for self-aggrandisment is killing us....
And too much respect for other races is a complex blacks suffer from....
What's so special about Arabs that they can't be resisted....

Guy are you for real, swear that you can't use jide for stand up or rise up... why do yorubas call it Ojo ajinde and not Ojo adinde...

it's a case of one part using dide and others using jide... you need to go back to your brown roof village to get yoruba tutor from your people...

Jide is more general than dide, Q.E.D
I think u meant to say jinde...
Ur understanding of Yoruba language is pretty basic...
Like u pick it from the street or something....

Don't mind him at all. People will come here spreading falsehood. He claims that other tribes dominated igbos but there is no evidence of there domination in igbo culture.

All these ancient empires they were claiming were very backward. No written language, inventions, philosophies etc which we use to know impactful empires.

They claim Benin empire was great, how impactful were they.

The only impactful empire as far as Nigeria is concerned is the uthman danfodios Fulani empire. Highly organized and we'll structured and funny thing they are the ones still controling Nigeria today, because of the sound structure bequeathed to them. they should show us the influence of Benin and oyo empire they claim on today's Nigeria or should stop making noise.
I'm Yoruba but I absolutely agree with u....
U cant claim civilisation without anything to show for it....
An advanced civilisation goes beyond conquering n subjugating ur neighbours....
There must be both physical n social evidence of such empire visible to all.....
I live in canterbury and I marvel at the city walls, cathedrals, castles etc built hundreds of years ago by its inhabitants.....
Thousands come from all over the world just to visit these monuments.....
Where is the contemporary of such in ancient African civilisation....
None bothered to invent the wheel to make transportation easier....
None made effort to have an organised n structured religion strong enough to resist foreign ones.....
None of the traditional healers made any effort whereby knowledge of herbs could be taught n passed on in a structured manner in order to prevent abuse n corruption of the practice.... .
Ancient civilisation has a standard definition n redefining it to suit to own ego is unacceptable.....
Rather, let's learn from our ancestors n ensure we build a proper African civilisation we can proudly bequeath to our children.

You may be wrong. No one likes being put in a constant state of servitude without a superior coercion in play used in ensuring submission. You are only seeing the video of the 'slaves' being tortured, but cannot see the AK 47, Kalashnikovs etc surrounding these guys. You might want to throw the 'they should die bravely' card cos it's easy to say from the comfort of your home and phone keypads. You absolutely have no clue what it is like to be enslaved. Your eagerness to comment on things you have no clue on is one of the reasons 'African countries are at the bottom...' not cos of your bogus hasty generalization.
Pls spare me....
Prisoners break free from prison despite high walls n heavily armed security personnel.....
Kidnap victims do escape from their kidnappers despite the AK-47 n whatever....
It's the will to get things done that matters...
That will is lacking in the black man....
He succumbs to servitude easily......
He bows down to superior power quicker than expected...
He behaves like a woman in the face of sustained oppression.....
Crying n wailing, hoping for a saviour to end his suffering....
I've seen videos of these slave camps....
Nothing special....
Just some bunch of horrible looking Arabs holding hostage, sheepishly smiling black Africans who are hoping to be treated favourably by their captors....

And yeah...
A living dog is better than a dead lion.....
That's if the dog don't end up dead itself, sooner than expected...
because nobody has time for a fearful dog......
