bashydemy:
check my last post, all South West states spend 2times more salaries than some South Easy states. If South West states stop employing people from SE like your south east states do then you know what will happen.
guy,
those huge recurrent expenditure has nothing to do with salaries.
it has more to do with neck-breaking loan repayment.
how can u explain ogun state having a debt of #91 billion or osun state having #55 billion.
what's their IGR + federal allocation combined to justify such loans.
and what exactly did they do with these loans?
the case of ondo is even more worrying.
this is the state with the eighth highest allocation in the federation with a moderate workforce, yet can't balance his books.
I think its high time we stop giving excuse for incompetence and start demanding for accountability.
or else these governors will throw our future to the sharks and it's our children that will be forced to pay.

the figires are not new. they ve been around for a while. and its credible. most sw states are burdened with debt.

OBAGADAFFI:
Ogun IGR is good.
But that expenditure is very bad.
What are this states spending money on.
a huge chunk of that expenditure goes to loan servicing.
PoliticsRe: Latest Ranking Of States By Financial Sustainability, Debt And IGR (PICS) by SIRTee15:
there's nothing wrong with SW states.
They are economically viable
the IGR proves that.
only ekiti has abysmally low score.
the problem lies with SW Governors and their reckless fiscal policies.
they practically borrowed their states into unsustainable debt.
with little or nothing to show for it.
They embarked on showmanship projects that are neither revenue-generating ventures nor self-sustaining.
their socialist tendencies with poor developmental visions severely affected the states n brought some to near ruin.

and that brings me to kemi adeosun
she was the commissioner for finance in ogun state when amosun went on borrowing spree.
fine, her tenure witnessed markedly increased IGR for the state with an efficient tax collection system as well blocking leakages.
she also flushed out ghost workers from the workforce and introduced accountability into the system.
but that is not enough.
now that she is the new minister of finance,
she needs to explain how the debt of ogun state rose to #55 billion right under her watch.
did she ever think the economy the state can sustain such debt profile.
why did she approve such bonds when she knew the governor is only interested in building fancy overhead bridges across the state.
can she tell us those borrowed funds were judiciously utilized.
she met a state with healthy financial status, now she's leaving it in red and unsustainable.
That says a lot about her capabilities as she embark on her new position, at a time Nigeria is in a dire financial critical state.

Africa pose no threat whatsoever to the US. The combined African GDP is just at $2.0 trillion compared to a single US state of carlifornia with a GDP of $2.3trillion grin grin.
The US provided a forum called the AGOA for african countries to export their products to the US as a means of helping them.
South Africa decided to play smart by eating her cake and having it at the same time, and the US threatened to drop the hammer and they would be in the right.
Go n read about AGOA and see the types of products traded under the arrangement.
They are mainly primary commodites like cocoa, rubber, timber, palm oil, tea, coffee etc, natural resources and oil n gas.
Try and export consumer goods or finished products and see the kain barrier u will meet at their borders.
If they are really serious about AGOA, let them assist in the area of technology transfer, availability of cheap funds, technical skill assistance in manufacturing n production, power n infrastructural development in our special economic zones.
Then we can produce quality n standard goods that will meet their stringent requirements at their borders.

The stupidity of many NLers is bewildering. Most of them conveniently ignored the part which says that Nigerian delegates have also complained. Kids all over here mehn. All businessmen I knw are complaining bitterly, even Chamber of Commerce has complained, Manufacturers Association of Nigeria has complained una dey here dey behave like the proverbial ostrich. I weep for this country. Next year is looking very very bad from what I see. Inasmuch as I hate US, what is being said by them nw has been said severally by our indigenous firms too. Block heads abound on NL I swear and most of them are buhari supporters. It's a pity...
go back and read why they reported Nigeria to wto.
it has absolutely nothing to do with what u wrote,
rather its because our importers cant access the needed foreign currency to buy their gooods.
Foreign powers- be it west or china, dont care if ur manufacturing sector is functioning or dead,
all they care about is making Nigeria a dumping ground for their finished products.
and now, they are crying foul since thats increasingly difficult.
did america take permission from us before flooding the market with shale oil thus markedly reducing our sole source of revenue.
so why should we seek there consent to protect the naira.
and I dont even know what we are doing in wto, its not like we benefit from it anyway.
its the likes of china or south korea that should be worried if they are kicked out.
They are exporters of finished products and consumer goods.

as per the issue u raised
if the F.G hadnt intervened, I can assure u by now the dollar will be exchanged for #350.
you dont expect us to wait and allow the naira to attain a junk status.
those measures are temporary to protect the naira.
Now that we have an economic team, long term policies will be implemented to ensure we diversify the economy, assist local manufacturers, block financial wastage, create favourable environment for FDI and boost export.
all these will put pressure off the naira and it can be allowed to trade freely with other currencies.
And this is when we can talk of joining wto and benefiting from it.
there is no shortcut to success, everybody must give there own pound of flesh.

37. Mining doesn't make poor countries rich.

Nations where the most mining takes place are also some of the poorest countries in the world. In these countries, national governments are helping mining companies to get the minerals they want. The small amount of money that poor countries get from mining companies is taken by international banks, not local people. Fourteen Majority World countries get at least a third of their export revenues from minerals. Their external debts are 1.4 times greater than their Gross National Product (GNP).

HealthRe: How St.nicholas Hospital Doctors Killed Chaz B By Chinyere Roselin Chukuma by SIRTee15: 11:28am On Oct 20, 2015
generally, emergency response in Nigeria is poor.
and what we see in our accident n emergency room is just a microcosm of Nigerian attitude towards emergencies.
as a doc, I'll admitt our health care system needs a total overhaul.
competency is not the issue, these same docs from our local universities travel out of the country n they thrive well.
the problem is lack of commitment and accountability from everybody involved in our healthcare, right from bottom to top.

as per the case, I have this to say:
dr kevwe is most likely a young inexperienced doc and chazB case was completely beyond him.
however he cannot be exonerated, its obvious he's deficient in basic clinical skills n his medical judgement seems poor.
I wonder why a patient with acute abdomen and in painful distress will be discharged home without any obvious effort to stabilise the patient.

as a consultant, pls if u know u wont have time to attend to emergencies, pls dont take calls.
there is no point, calling u for emergency n u're elsewhere doing locum only for u to show up 12hrs later.
if dr balogun or fadiran made themselves available on that said day, chazB would have stood a chance. They killed that chance.
st nicholas and other big hospitals need to step up, u cannot be collecting millions from clients and delivering mediocre services.
how can a patient's case note be locked up in a doctor's office, thus denying others access to it.
what happened to electronic/computerized medical records. how much will it cost to install one in st nicholas? is it beyond their means?
on a general note, mdcn needs to review the medical curriculum.
emphasis should be on emergency medicine, ethics of the profession and social medicine. every doctor graduating from our medical schools should be well equipped with these skills.
the ministry of health also needs to refocus their attention on what is critical in our health care system.
universal health insurance coverage is non-negotiable. its the ony way out of our
present quagmire.
training and re-training of medical personals should be prioritized.
enough of constructing gigantic but moribund buildings called hospitals.
cuba cannot boast of world class hospitals or facilities, but her doctors are one of the most efficient on planet earth.
we can replicate that in Nigeria if we are committed to see it thru.

www.nairaland.com/attachments/2755249_image_jpeg9f360c5ab7736510df54c882e9dbf188

Coupled with some other charges I didn’t and still do not understand, is the #18,000 development fee which was part of the reasons Obafemi Awolowo University management increased its school fees, counting some months behind us. The development fee is a scam or what?

A closer or let me say my personal review of the exorbitant and “holy gholistic” increment of fee early March last year; looking through the estimation given by the management, one out of the 17 listed estimate, I kept on fixedly gazing at the number 15 on the list, then the question that kept on heaping round my thought as ant heap round a cone of sugar was development of what?. An obviously pellucid reason for this question is, so far, the condition OAU has been during the time normal fee was been paid is still what we are now, NO CHANGE!!!, hence my question again, development of whathuh. Well, consoling myself, it was probably meant for building a new giant Senate building so these set of inconsiderate management can continue relaxing in air conditioned offices while we keep on swinging in our erratic and nothing to write home about welfare condition? We’ve had enough patience for our management to make sense but still they prefer our parents hustling to pay them.

It may interest you to know that, the said estimation was as a result of the protest, which saw to the reduction from 74,000 to whatever we have now, is this really not a scam? As far as am concerned, no development whatsoever has been implemented by the management, I may be wrong with evidence, after swindling over 5000 2013/2014 fresh students of #18,000 development levy, and now 2014/2015 set were inevitably victims. Let’s say approximately 12,000 students paid, #18,000 in such folds, that will be a total of? I leave that to the mathematicians to rack brains about. Or maybe my definition of development is what I’m inferring from? Lest I fall a victim of erroneous conclusion.

Let me linguistically analyze the word “development”, or probably what the management mean. Is it what my dictionary defined it to be or what? Well, here is what I have according to lexicographers;

Development is : the act or process of growing or causing something to grow or become larger or more advanced.

Sequel to the above definition, is it then justifiably right, based on the condition of our hostels, lecture halls, that the management have satisfied the above definition of development? To which #18,000 was attached to? I see the word development as used by the management as a canopy to hide their somewhat exorbitant fee, if so, I believe this canopy needs to be fixed before another set of fresh students will be made to pay such canonized fee. Obviously, this situation needs some changes, some trenches need some cutting, some pillars need erecting and the flooring needs some scrubbing.
