Why deporting them, while dey could stay back there and join in the online classhuh

Ayam not understanding, this people has really seen us fininsh, so what happens to their tuition fees and valid documents which states that they are eligible to be in their country during their cause of studyhuh
trump is pushing for reopening and if they don't reopen they might as well just suspend student visas.

Must we copy other countries all the time? Even if we want to copy, won't we copy those that are more progressive than us?

The USA has lost more people to COVID19 than any other country in the world, yet, at the same time and day our minister of Education was talking about stopping our children from writing exams, the US president was ordering all schools to open. Mind you, we are not yet talking about opening schools, we are still discussing about allowing SS3 students write exams. An Average SS3 student is between 15 To 18 years old and should understand all COVID19 safety measures by now.

Besides, if we want to tell ourselves the whole truth, we should ask ourselves where and what are these children doing right now. In answer, many of those that can afford it attend lessons in the morning hours, where there is no physical distancing, neither do they wear face masks. In the evening, almost all of them go out to mingle with their friends, play and watch football. They should use the time to write the exam instead of wasting it.

My conclusion once again, unless we are able to do the China type of total lockdown that will be effective, it is complete waste of time holding anybody back from what they should be doing. So far, we all know how Nigerians observe COVID19 prevention guidelines. I see NCDC releasing new confirmed cases for the next three years. So, our children will continue to wait for that long?

There is a reason why Nigeria's national Pledge ends with the line:
"So help me God".
Bruv this is Nigeria where nothing really works. The US is in a very bad shape concerning the pandemic so we shouldn't really compare to them. And trump is the only one really pushing for schools to reopen even though many health experts are cautioning against that. He even wants to cdc to change their guidelines sad. Now Nigeria? How are you going to reopen when those students are being exposed to corona is a hoax? How about WAEC shenanigans? School outbreaks happens, how will necessary steps be mobilised? US can risk it and open schools knowing they have the capacity to handle it(and it hasn't worked well for them).

I don't know if you've seen abuad's advert concerning reopening of their uni, tell me the remaining 200+ in the country can do half of that.

China have gone past the era of school lockdown, the epicentre of the virus, then why not Nigeria?
Did China record 2k+ cases week by week? Do they perform 2k tests daily? How about their contact tracing? China has moved past a lot of countries. If school outbreaks start happening where will our government start from when they're still struggling now sad

If the secondary school students are still kids can't they allow the university students who are completely adults to resume. If you take a look at the seating arrangement of the waec students you'll agree with me that the social distance is maintain compare to the ondo and edo elections that is about to commence. I think our govt dislike education and can do anything to protect their political ambition.
it's not just a Nigerian problem. I don't know if we should be having to deal with covid and then also a political crisis if polls are cancelled sad

Please, are you trying to say that these SS3 students are children, hmmmmm.People that are mostly age16-18.Are this so called children so dumb to understand the effect of coronavirus if they don't obey safety precaution.
you're doubting Nigerian students huh. When they hear people say it's a hoax everyday? When the teachers who could see it as a hoax also could expose them? When Adults don't know the effect of the so called corona virus sad.

Yes for classes like primary 6, jss 3 and sss3.
Thing is looking at Nigeria the past 4 months, we can't handle even just those 3 classes reopening. If things worked then maybe we would have been close to a comfort zone for school reopening. And then you have entitled tertiary students that will use the fact that transition classes have resumed to push for tertiary resumption also grin.

full reopening on September? Even Cambridge and Oxford said there won't be any in-person classes till next year...likewise other Unis in the UK
maybe not their unis. My point is I agree with you on not having what it takes to safely reopen schools like some countries are doing so it *might* be better to play it safe but when it seems government isn't doing anything at all sad then they might as well just act like we're safe sad.

public health experts allover the world is telling government to stagger or delay school reopening...this is not peculiar to Nigeria alone
It's like folks don't bother to check what's happening around the world. To them the fact that it's no longer April means things are now fine undecided

You only see what you want to see. Some countries just resumed their educational activities
And some countries have curbed covid also. Or we should copy the reopening too? grin

in European countries, Canada etc. Full resumption for mostly universities is till 2021 with only virtual learning taking place for now
oh thanks. But UK plans full reopening by September and before the rebound, US also planned reopening in the fall. I'm aware some states already cancelled their academic year. Our own handling while it definitely calls for concern it also raises questions sad. Unfortunately Nigerians on social media aren't going to listen grin. To them it's just reopen this reopen that grin

Ever since the European government included Nigeria as one of the country not allowed in Europe, the number of covid 19 keeps dropping very soon, a day will come when there will be no case to record, just to gain access into Europe. Selfish government

NIGERIA DAILY CASES IS ONE OF THE MOST USELESS AND INACCURATE RECORDS.

IMAGINE TEST RESULTS ARE TAKING ONE TO TWO WEEKS NOW , AND IT IS STILL RECORDED AS DAILY CASES.

NIGERIA WITH ALL THE MONEY THEY GOT AS DONATION AND THE MONEY THEY BORROW CANT STILL DO OVER 3000 DAILY TESTS, AND THIS IS WHY WE KEEP HAVING SAME RESULT BETWEEN 400 TO 700 EVERYDAY

IF GOVERNMENT CAN DO ALL THE SAMPLE THEY HAVE ONCE..DAILY CASES CANT BE MUCH, BUT IN A SITUATION WHEREBY WE HAVE SO MUCH SAMPLE ON GROUND , WE WILL BE GETTING SAME RANGE OF RESULT FOR LONG, CONSIDERING OUR HUGE POPULATION
Absolutely useless undecided. They might as well just stop reporting since we're heading nowhere with this undecided. It seems they got the message to stop their useless press briefings also undecided. I'm beginning to side with some people that say the virus should take its course undecided only that would be equally horrible sad.
HealthRe: COVID-19 Lockdown: Right Or Wrong? by SirWarlock: 12:00pm On Jul 09, 2020
CanadaOrBust:
If u r being sincere and honest you’d admit I was right: 1) For whatever reason CVOVID-19 has very low death rate in Nigeria 2) The death and hospitalization rates are not high enough to warrant a lockdown of any kind.
3) Even if we totally ignore COVID (which I am not advocating) we’d emerge a younger and healthier country with a more vibrant economy.
Well since ncdc and MoH have failed in providing data concerning your no.1 and 2. I'll be inclined to agree but I still don't see what makes us special to covid. Maybe cos a large number of infected people are of the younger populace but that doesn't limit the eventual transmission to more vulnerable people.

Investnow2017:
You have hit at a sensitive point here. When I hear people are waiting for 2021 for a vaccine, they imagine they are just going to get vaccinated automatically! The present world population is 7.8billion. The chances of everyone especially in the third world getting vaccinated within a year is slim. Remember, it is not a vaccine that is limited to a certain age group or nation, it is a worldwide need. I don't see the entire world being vaccinated fully until 2025! There are so many obstacles on the way. The whole conspiracy theories against vaccination would have to be cleared, the vaccine has to be free otherwise it will be hijacked by greedy entrepreneurs, it has to be widely distributed, it has to be in enough quantity, it has to be administered. And like you said, often it will be those in the upper class first before it flows down, and in the process, it might get politicised, it might be adulterated in the process etc. Even though free, the greedy dispenser here might create a frenzy scenario such that you might have to give up some cash to get the vaccine on time! Remember shortly after the lockdown was relaxed some folks were paying to get a good position on the queue to be able to get some cash at the bank. All that are possibilities here. So it would seem to me that majority are not yet kept abreast of what we are up against. The future does not possess the miracle unless we begin now to marshal out a plan B, because the virus is not just going to vanish. Our testing has not told me we are ready to flatten the curve yet.
Once again another good write up from you. Wish nairaland had better emojis sad

SirWarlock, I was just cooking up this very beautiful proposition recently saying "since the education is completely shut down in Nigeria Bokoharam should please cease fire, after all their fight is against western education, and Covid-19 has helped them to achieve it without shedding blood"
What do you think? Some are looking at next year as if 2021 possesses the miracle. We do not know yet what we are up against. Unless there is a divine intervention, even with a vaccine, not everyone will be able to receive it next year. It is a global need cutting across all age brackets and sex. If it is not safe now it is not going to be safe in 2021 with these surging figures. The world is in deep shit.
I feel like the world is gradually giving up on controlling this virus. Can't say I blame them though, corona is supreme now grin. Like you said in another post if a vaccine is probably developed, it's going to another year long issue and with the US halting funding WHO I don't have a good outlook of years to come.

I listened to the minister of state for education yesterday. He said states with intelligent students can ask them to stay at home then resume for exam on the 4th.

Lagos has fixed resumption for August 3rd, I wonder how the state government want to pull that off.
I see that date as just tentative. They don't really have anything solid to resume schools.

HealthRe: COVID-19 Lockdown: Right Or Wrong? by SirWarlock: 10:03pm On Jul 08, 2020
CanadaOrBust:
Not true. US and Europe are not “ALL the world”. Some countries have hardly any covid
80% of the world practically went on lockdown. It might not be the reigning thing again but it did its job for some countries.
The way I see the covid data reporting is partly 'we can tell the world whatever we want' but that's another thing entirely. Countries that hardly have it now have clearly worked to break local transmission and luck may or may not have played a part.
HealthRe: COVID-19 Lockdown: Right Or Wrong? by SirWarlock: 9:58pm On Jul 08, 2020
It's right for countries that know what they're doing. Nigeria isn't one of them. I read somewhere that an effective 2months+ lockdown will go a very long way of curbing the spread but from what we've seen globally I don't think it's sustainable anymore, socially, economically and politically as we've seen in some countries. So yes I believe in lockdown to some extent but whatever grin

Even the stats isn't comprehensive enough.

We can't even pinpoint the pre existing conditions those who died of the viruses had. Average days spent in Isolation by each infected person or people in critical care.

ASUU is out there fighting against laws to criminalize the sexual relationship between lecturers and students.
To be honest if it's about covid in Nigeria, we've lost it sad

To all those dumb fools saying they don't care about it.

This is exactly what we say. What do you know about the long lasting damage the virus would do? You can get healed of it because you are young but what if it damages your Lungs irreparably or 20 years you just drop dead with brain aneurysm caused by having had Covid19?
Studies are being carried out globally to see post covid recoveries and immunity concerning the virus. Are physicians trying to see how the recovered people are doing over here or it's to wait till they test negative and dish out stats to ncdc. Our years of dead scientific research has failed us now. We aren't even contributing anything to the global discourse of this virus undecided.
