Bunch of unscientific nonsense. Many scientists believe the virus doesn't spread much through surfaces (fomites). Even if it did, the schools have been closed for so long (several months) that any virus in them would have been deactivated by now. The virus doesn't live on tables and desks; it lives inside human beings. Teachers, students, parents, workers. This move is only going to make people feel better. It's a hollow gesture.
True. To look good for the people I think undecided

Mehn I have been watching Madagascar, their figures are not looking good at all. They are recording mores cases and deaths in a daily basis now. It seems their 'kunu' no work againooo. And the world wide figures keep surging exponentially. Might you have an idea of what is cooking in South Africa? The rate at which their figures are galloping they might soon become the Brazil of Africa! 10,800+ new cases in one day! That is exponential. While their accelerated testing might be the factor their death rate though is worrisome.
Wish TMKsouth will say something he might know.
Leave Madagascar grin grin. I don't know what changed about them, thought they were going to go the 'it's not for Africa route'. I don't know what to make of south Africa. One one hand their deaths are relatively low but on the other, their infection rates are still surging which only translate to more deaths. On becoming another Brazil, I don't know about that Nigeria probably holds that spot. Reason is Brazil was recording higher deaths right from the onset(same with the U.S) while SA's own has been around the 2.5% CFR. So they're closer to chile than Brazil I think. Also those countries(US and Brazil) happen to be among the most populated in the world( not that it plays a super dominant role). But with their government seeming unbothered by the recent trends maybe they see something we don't. At least their testing is large unlike a certain country grin sad.
I always look forward for more contributions from you for the rest of the year grin

There’s only one thing consistent in this country; The COVID-19 figures.it keeps going up while our Naira goes down.

We lack a system

Most countries that held a lockdown, took advantage of it to flatten the curve except American whose fault was the Black lives matter protest.

Why did we go on a National lockdown for almost two months and Lagos for 3months?
We were never on lockdown

When will we hear good news in this country? If it is not mindless accident, it is accidental discharge by security operatives, if it is not armed robbers, it is kidnappers, if it not Coronavirus, it is massive heartbreaking cases of corruption. And you need to buy fuel or diesel for your generator either to charge your phone or watch this nonsense news on the TV, or hear it from a weary voice on the radio embarassed Times are hard, but Nigeria's case is different. Even news coming from abroad concerning Nigerians is virtually all bad news of some either having been arrested or of Nigerians wanted for one criminal offense or the other.
Fire service operating only when there is no fire incident, but when there is a fire incident, they will have very good and useless excuses not to appear, and all staff receive monthly salary promptly for not performing at all! And along with that multiple ghost workers! And Nigeria is the only country I know where ghosts receive salaries, allowances and promotion! Ghosts!
More annoying is when for days you have had no Nepa and the next announcement you hear is that the National grid is down and that there will be blackout for some days - as if there had been light previously undecided
A country where a politician will donate ropes for tying goats as a constituency project embarassed How did we get here? I wonder what is there for future generations - men of 80 years and above are getting appointments in a society where over 80m are jobless youths!
Man this country just happens to exist. It's sad to think that even in the future Nigeria will still be broken sad.

sonnie10:
I am not an economist but I know that debit means you owe. And when you owe, you must pay with interest.

Now this is where its alarming: if the interest you pay is more that your total income. So you work just to service your loan.

It gets to a point where you can no longer be productive because you can't keep up due to exhaustion (in this case depilated infrastructures).

Then, the obvious would happen. Your debtors would now take over and subject you to all sorts.
So are all this 'country X will take over country Y' talk possible in running into the worst debt crisis or it's more than that?

Why do they have to send specimen to Abakaliki for the test? UCTH is bigger and more equipped with abundance of medical personnel on ground for any kind of lab testing. The first University in Nigeria to have a Medical Laboratory Science as a degree program. UCTH has been turning out Microbiologists in droves since 1979, why can't they be put to work now.
They even have a Biotech (B.Tech) program now.
For the same reason the whole state doesn't have a testing laboratory. Nigeria grin

Do you notice dear that the world recorded it's HIGHEST daily cases yesterday, a whopping 208,000+ new cases with the US, INDIA and SOUTH AFRICA recording their highest daily tally too. It seems the pandemic is rather gaining strength. It would seem the last has not been heard about this virus.
Africa now records nearly same number of cases daily as Europe, although this figure is largely shut by South Africa and Egypt. Cameroon has not reported for the past few days, hope all is well or they have simply given up. I see that happening in some African countries going forward because the cost of managing this pandemic is not sustainable in the long run.
The world is in a deep shit, and not much is being done to call China out for a serious talk or have their economy abandoned to them. Sad really.
While a large of that can be attributed to the Americas, it's worrying for South Africa tbh. I feel like another wave in Europe could hit again cos this thing just finds a way to spread. According to what I read somewhere an epidemic of this sort might require a 2 months+ strict lockdown and no country will be able to sustain that socially and economically.

Africa might have to carry on with 'no test no case' principle unless a miraculous bailout arrives sad. I think so many African countries are still on the 'it's not for us train' sad. Nigeria here we just seem clueless sad. Like there's nothing stopping us from becoming a world hot-spot down the line sadand the PTF know this

Funny thing with this china thing is she and her neighbors were able to get a hold of it on time grin, Europe was the real distributor of this problem grin.

Any wise individual will take all precautionary measures regardless of what position any government is claiming, or what the public perception generally is. Afterall if unfortunately you contract it, you will be left to battle through your recovery all alone. The argument on whether there are cases in all Nigerian states or if the virus in Nigeria is a scam or not are irrelevant
other countries are arguing of way out. We over here are arguing whether or not it's in Nigeria grin
HealthRe: Nigerians Aged 20 To 40 Spreading COVID-19 — Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu by SirWarlock: 3:18pm On Jul 03, 2020
2packer:
My problem with the conclusion that ages 20 to 40 spread the virus is that a whole government funded body can't tell us how they carried out their analysis as well as and how these category of persons spread the virus either knowingly or unknowingly. So that both young and old know how to take precautions. NCDC PLEASE TELL US HOW TO SLOW DOWN THE SPREAD NOT JUST THAT WE ARE THE ONES SPREADING.

Am not doubting your report but please break it down so that we know how we are actually SPREADING the virus and also learn how to avoid infecting others.
Its simple. A large majority of those infected are in the 20-50 age range. Also since the reproduction rate is more than one then they'll definitely end up infecting someone else, in worse case someone vulnerable

Nigerians are just too stubborn, most especially my Muslim brothers. We tried to implement distancing in the mosque, the youth refused to comply. Then we said that since everyone has face masks, let it be your ticket to enter the mosque. They agreed but wouldn't comply.
You would see someone sneezing inside the taxi but would rather use his face mask to cover his jaw instead of his nose.
It's not just a Nigerian thing. I mean I never imagined a time would come when masks would be part of our daily attire. Nigeria's situation is more difficult cos of the availability and willingness to get tested. Here we're still testing mostly case definitions. So imagine a country with this kind of attitude of not going for testing, no precautions and then calling it a hoax.
