SA leads. I guess that's just because their testing process is quite efficient than ours. Whatever abeg. This Corona thing is just tiring. Only God knows how many of us have contracted and recovered from the virus without knowing.

Can we just continue the life we had at 2019 cuz I'm sick of all this
They've conducted more than 700,000 tests. I believe they'll go a long way in terms of flattening their curve. Nigeria on the other hand...

Why? Why not ascertain that their virus load has fallen significantly to near-safe levels before letting them back out into the population?
New scientific findings show the virus is not viable after 10days. At least that's what ncdc is saying

From compulsory two negative tests before discharge they reduced it to one. Now its not even necessary to test negative again before they discharge you. What's next, reducing your stay in the isolation center to 7 days instead of 14? Or just checking your temperature and sending you back home same day you were admitted?
I think it's to save bed spaces especially for patients with moderate symptoms. They could still test you later but this creates room for other patients and from what they say asymptomatics are giving them hard time.

It is gradually becoming obvious that NCDC are not honest about COVID-19 in Nigeria.
Why discharge a COVID-19 patient after 2 weeks bearing in mind that he can still spread the virus to orhers?

Investnow2017:
Who else noticed that South Africa has exploded with this Covid-19? Africa recorded its highest figure of confirmed cases in the last 24hours as well as highest deaths!
*World records highest figure of confirmed cases in 24hrs = 129,000+
*South Africa 3,200+ with 56 deaths in one day.
*Brazil 31,000+ with highest deaths of 1,420+
*Mexico 3,900+ with 1,000+ deaths in one day.
*India 9,500+ with 275 deaths highest so far in 24hrs.
*And the US records another bleak milestone of 110,000+ deaths so far.
*Africa recorded 7,000+ plus 156 deaths.
*Ethiopia records 150 highest thus far in 24hrs.

Now, when some say nobody cares anymore, the truth is that a lot of people, if not everyone, still care. If we don't we will not keep up this late at night to check with NCDC.
And truly, some who say so do not really understand what is going on outside. A neighbour suspecting malaria went to a government hospital today. Prior to this pandemic, the hospital used to be so busy that to get ones turn would take several hours. But not so today. Because of the scanty attendance, in a few minutes she was out, not after answering multiple suggestive questions from doctors and nurses who were maintaining a kilometre distance from her.
But on getting to the pharmacy outside of the hospital, she found out that she had to join a queue because of the crowd of customers.
When she returned, she became sober, lamenting this pandemic has really affected a whole lot of things, people patronize the pharmacy more than they do hospitals these days.
When we say we don't care it is only because it has not hit close to home. And naturally humans don't care about illness unless they or someone close becomes ill. Why is it so? It is because when God created humans, they were not to experience poor health if not for the disobedience of our first parents - Adam and Eve. So sickness is a strange phenomenon to humans, we were not created to ever fall ill and we will naturally not care when we are sound in health.
.
Great write up. Some people are just trying to sound 'hip' saying they don't care and other things. I mean NCDC twitter account rose to 1 million followers, how did that happen if people stopped caring grin. They don't get huge likes again though grin.

I noticed some of the most populous countries are feeling the heat now, India, Pakistan, Brazil, Mexico. With South Africa also coming up(though their recovery rate is stable), I wonder what looms for Nigeria. Because with our low testing capacity we're pretty much guaranteed to keep having cases till the end of the year.

TruthHurts100:
Seun, i know this will never make front page. But let's share the truth and fact that have been staring at our faces.

1. Our population in Nigeria is say 200,000,000
We have a very poor health care system, how on earth are we able to contain the virus spread, that since 3 months, we have less than a mere 12,000 positive cases?

2. You can then argue that, we aren't carrying out enough test. If we have 12,000 positive cases in Nigeria, how many people have they had contact with before their quarantine? Do you sincerely believe that those contact tracing is 100%?

3. If Covid-19 is not a money making scheme, and it's that dangerous, why will the government dare to lift movements when NCDC keep giving us increasing numbers of new cases everyday?
By now we should have been seeing people falling down and dying on the streets. But that has never been the case.

4. Kano was challenging Lagos on the Covid-19 league table... We learned that the hundreds that died in those few days were Covid-19 patients. And suddenly we start seeing 3, 2 or 4 new cases in Kano. The virus left Kano abi? Or Kano state health care is far better than that of Lagos?
We saw the isolation centre of Kano state, it was empty. EMPTY

5. How come people haven't started dying in Kogi state all these while that NCDC was trying to penetrate the state? Why is it that it was after three months that the first case was reported? Are you saying Kogi had a special anticovid that the virus penetrated the whole state except Kogi?
Do we even believe the story of the alfa that reportedly brought Covid-19 into Kogi?

Bonus: How come we hear of so many high-profile people testing positive but they all survived? Chioma, Dokpesi, governors etc. Them get plenty heads abi?

Covid might be real but it's not as bad as they are painting it.

Na pesin we go do test go get the Coro. It's like those people determines who is positive and who is not.

A president of an African country gave them the sample of a plant and label it with a person's name and the result came back positive. cheesy

We learned that a test cost N50,000... Are you kidding us? And those in quarantine, each of their meal reportedly costs N12,000. Multiply by 3. Multiply the result by 3 months. See?

If Coronavirus is as bad as they have painted it....at least 30-40% of this country must have been positive.
Looking at how bad our health care system is.

We recently learnt they reduced the budget on health and education and their allowances remains Constant K.

What do you guys think?

Like seriously?
oga you think whatever is happening in Nigeria is an anomaly? Abba kyari wasn't a high profile? The nasarawa state lawmaker? 30-40% of people? Even India hasn't had such stats yet! Africa's slow and low transmission rate shouldn't dismiss covid as a mere disease rather we should observe and strengthen whatever is on ground to avoid what Latin America is passing through now!

You can't compare Nigeria to countries that have moved past testing just an average of 2000 per day.

They're opening up despite the high numbers cos their hands are tied at this point. The lockdown broke after the first two weeks anyway. Our response to high numbers is St confusing though I'll give you that. Especially with relaxation and opening up here and there. I mean they told the high risks LGs and what are they doing to check the spread there huh.

If there's anything thing to be afraid of, check how the most populous countries in the world are faring and check out Nigeria.

I don't believe Nigeria can orchestrate such a perfectly made scam. If then we deserve all the accolades shocked

The response is to send out conflicting information and hope for the best.

At this point I'm sure the lockdown was to delay the death rates until they can get enough body bags and staff ready. Now that they are prepared it is time to 'release the chickens'.
Your first point is so true. I remember them warning about overwhelming the health system and what have they done about that? Open more places and keep recording high numbers undecided sad. Even NCDC has issued new guidelines on discharging and testing negative undecided. Then add to the fact that the response from the populace isn't it at all sad. I pray we don't get into a looming crisis later sad.

The level 13 and above are the oldest and most vulnerable... but the Corona case in Nigeria is always somehow unexplainable under normal circumstances.

Aggressive testing is the only means by which we can ever know if any curve is been flattened. As it is, that is not happening. I guess we ll have to live with this virus until a vaccine is found. My only worry is asymtomatic ones will continue spread this virus to the vulnerable ones and that will cause more severity and more death.

NB: for those who do not believe the virus exist, may ur vulnerable loved ones never catch it. Even seemingly healthy people do die. I guess we don't know someone who knows someone who has it cos of the silence culture with this type of thing in Nigeria. Rem how pple didn't believe hiv/aids existed? But then, we are free to believe whatever we want! Afterall its a free world
Asymptomatic carriers, vulnerable people, infection rate and relatively low fatality rates are the crux of this thing.

HealthRe: COVID-19: Kogi Govt Warns Residents Not To Seek Medical Service At FMC Lokoja by SirWarlock: 11:00am On Jun 04, 2020
Fiestafetta:
Not only the Federal Medical center in kogi but all states in Nigeria. If you don't want to be used for covid19 statistics or die a miserable death in Nigeria now, you better avoid going to any government hospitals at the moment.

Both federal and state governments are looking for covid19 figures all over, in short they don't mind kidnapped wondering persons on the streets to tag them positive. Anybody that have remained indoor under the guise of lockdown does not know what is happening in Nigeria now.

NCDC has abandon their responsibility of preventing, containing and eradicating disease in Nigeria to the agency that distributing diseases with sole aim of making this pandemic (if at all it's exist) every states recorded high numbers even when such was no so in China where the pandemic originated. They are now plaque with all sorts of controversy, distrust, suspicion and secrecy.

Only time will tell........ Surely corona business is coming to an end and nobody is giving them undue attention these days.
The world has moved past whatever happened in China.

now, to resume schools, they'll need funds to disinfect all schools. you see wa'mmean?
Its not just disinfecting. Disinfecting is good if the virus is already present. But one who has it can easily spread droplets to the place again and God knows how many people will come in contact before the next disinfection.
