Bring out vaccine instead. Lockdown is useless at this stage. It has gone beyond control. Save money for continuous self medication cheesy
Very useless for so many reasons now grin. Yeah Nigeria had better get to work on the vaccine/cure or we'll be the world definition of corona has come to stay cheesy

the corona is not that lethal, I feel we are mostly asymptomatic, must be based on the fact that we've treated malaria so much that our immune has imprints if it, and since coronaaffects us like malaria, our bodies have mastered how to attack and overwhelm it...

myvproblem is that the asymptomatic may carry it to those who may not be so Strong to combat
true. But it's the infection rate that is the problem and it's non-lethal nature for some people allows it to seep through to infect those that are truly vulnerable. But malaria treatment would mean it only exhibits malaria symptoms though? I don't know the intricacy of how treatment really works but what about other symptoms? Surely malaria drugs can't take care of that right? huh

na so
there is big politics in this thing, especially in Akwq Ibom.
back then we always has 1case, 2cases, 3 or 4 at most, all of a sudden, it was 3 days to the launching of the isolation centre that governor Udom built, and we had 10cases on the first day, and 10cases on the 2nd day and the next udom unveiled the centre for them, and since then, we've not had a single case.

does it mean the 20cases in 2days did not have a single contact ? does it mean that even with our proximity to Rivers state, that is always staging spot with the top 4 on the table that we've not had a single case coming in ? even Aba that had a big spike, is where we buy everything...

the problem is not with the government acting a script, the problem is that they don't even pay a good script writer..
there is corona in Nigeria and its serious, but the government are just making movie scripts off it, and their stories sulks.
Like the ncdc dg said before states aren't sending samples for testing. Akwa ibom just had their own testing lab so maybe it'll increase testing of samples in the state. Either some governors are going by the covid isn't lethal here narrative so let's just test a few samples or they are just clueless.

You know state populations in Nigeria are the size of some countries?! Imagine hearing country X has only conducted 4 coronavirus tests in 3 months. Wouldn't that be embarrassing and reckless? I have no words.
At this point I just hope we're truly a special breed concerning covid sad Maybe our genes were prepared for it.

That doesn't sound good. I learnt from someone here that Kogi has done just 111 tests. Now you also telling me this?

FYI, in contrast SA hit the 1 million mark for tests today.
Not according to official data from the ncdc. Data has it that they've only tested 4 samples that's why they've just 3 cases. I don't get the unnecessary tussle especially on the part of the state government undecided.

SirWarlock,

Can we discuss this? I need your informed opinion please.

What will happen if Nigeria as a nation decides to completely turn her back on this Covid-19 pandemic, relax all restrictions across the states and return fully to the pre-covid-19 status?

I say this going by the low death rate and the growing disbelief which has hampered every containment measure put in place. What will happen?

If anyone can volunteer an educated guess, you are welcome.
If the government just says well let's free this people, open everywhere, lift every ban then we should be looking at a scourge dealing with us seriously for the next 2 years especially without a vaccine. If we just relax everything then we should gear for near collapse of every sector of the country. Herd immunity for this virus is going to take a while and for our population almost impossible. Take a look at what's happening in Sweden for instance, that's a clear sign and experts have said it's a very bad idea since the virus isn't virulent enough to make that happen. It's going to lead to large deaths and I feel like Nigeria isn't ready for that can kind of catastrophe. I mean now things have basically gone back normal, only thing remaining is for government to lift things they still control first hand and you can bet when those are lifted things will be back to status quo again grin. So yeah we might get used to the idea that almost everyone we know being sick, dead, hospitals can't even attend to anybody, general mortality rates going up(if only we had good records and stats keeping) like in apocalypse movies Or hope that truly covid isn't really meant for us and it'll be just a scratch grin(this needs scientific judgment though)

My two cents

if there hasnt been any reported case in cross river let it be that way, other places that are heavily affected are still trying to cope, FCMB donated in Ogun state, other organisations are donating too, testing rates have increased still yet there is room for more, that is just Ogun state then imagine other places like Lagos and Kano, so i dont think this is a time for anyone to want a state that is covid 19 free to have a positive case.
well all in all your statement just reads no covid test no covid case grin. Other states should have done the same grin.

I continue to ask if the interstate lockdown is relaxed tomorrow can any state in Nigeria still have any reason to come with claims that they are Covid-19 free. All those insupportable assertions will soon be punctured. I am saying assuming that there is even some kind of interstate lockdown embarassed
.
No state can claim they are covid free. One way or another as long as people are defying the inter state ban there must be covid. The inter state ban collapsed right from onset and I'm waiting for the drama when it's lifted officially especially Kogi undecided.

How true can the bolded part be?

Benue, Ebonyi, Abia, Akwa Ibom states and Cameroon all have recorded high case. Even Bioko island belonging to Equatorial Guinea and having the capital, Malabo, down south of Cross River State, also has cases of COVID19.

How is it now possible for Cross River State with porous international boundaries, let alone Inter-State boundaries now priding on not having any case?

For the sake of other students living outside the state, I don’t think it is ok for Cross River State to open schools when there is still a ban on inter state movement.
It's a funny situation grin. Maybe they were able to seal their borders airtight (I wonder how possible). Maybe like Kogi they're not testing. But if they claim they don't have now whatabout when inter state Lockdown is lifted officially?. I'm sure someone will ask now why no mysterious deaths yet grin

June 8
Total sample tested: 78,224
Confirmed new cases: 315
Sample tested on June 8: 1,704

June 9
Total sample tested: 79,948
Confirmed new cases: 663
Sample tested on june 9: not included..

To get the sample tested on june 9, we subtract the total sample tested on june 8 from that of june 9...
79,948 -78,224 = 1,724

A test of 1,704 was carried out on june 8... 315 came out positive, 1724 was carried out the following day, 663 came out as positive..

How did it happen??
Are they retesting the confirmed cases and adding them to give new cases.. I no dey understand anything again like diz
1724 was actually for the previous 24 hrs. The one for yesterday will be in their daily epidemiological reports

Oh my God. Who did we offend. With this massive increase in cases, I dont expect the FG to allow any further movement.

A total lockdown of Two months should be enforced in all states. Everyone to remain inside his house.

People should stock their homes fully and all remain indoors. This is the only way this Pandemic could be defeated.

I call on the FG as a matter of urgency to lockdown the country indefinitely till further notice.

We are in big trouble in Nigeria and the FG lifting all bans and allowing its citizens suffer from this deadly virus.

I condemn it, I condemn it, I condemn it and urge all Nigerians to rise up to their voices and call for an indefinite lockdown till further notice.

Enough is enough now.
Eh another lockdown will be pretty much futile. Our pace of cases pretty much went over the government's heads. That is during the semi-lockdown confirmed daily cases weren't as high as now, now socio-economically it's no longer sustainable(not just us, south Africa, India, Brazil and Russia are facing the same dilemma). What I want to know is why they have this false confidence of reopening places again and thinking and hoping it'll go down well.

They're anticipating further increase in cases but they see nothing wrong in opening worship centers but like others won't follow their guidelines. It's either we hope and research and find out this won't be lethal to us or we get whatever comes our way. The worst thing is this is going to affect people with other ailments with the way it'll keep affecting health workers nationwide sad

I see your point dear. While what you have said is true, the question needs to be asked who pays the price at the end of the day, it is still those doubting. We thank God that this Covid-19 is not as deadly as Ebola, the chances of getting tested or treated would have been a function of party affiliation cheesy
My concern is that the right questions are not being asked. Why is it that of all the countries in the world whose population is 100m and above, only Nigeria has the far lowest testing ratio to population? With our present pace in the management of the pandemic, there is no gainsaying the fact that while other nations have worked to get a control of the virus, the contagion is still one that is dictating the pace here. Anymore reason why many are screaming that the govt should get the economy fully open, relax all restrictions and discontinue the virtual struggle. In that way, the fear being traded as a result of the endless daily briefings which yield nothing other than more fears will be outrightly mitigated. While 90% of the populace are living in total oblivion of any kind of pandemic the NCDC boss is saying recently that we are just at the beginning phase. These divergent viewpoints is very concerning to say the least. All this is happening because the earlier lockdown periods were largely squandered. I keep hearing we have improved our testing capacity and yet the reported figures of samples tested betray such assertions. What I have gleaned from the expressed torments of many is that they want to be left alone to sort out themselves as they have seen that relying on any govt is tantamount to building a castle in the air.
The degree of suffering nationwide is unspeakable, but we cannot but help ourselves by taking responsibility because no one is going to send a plane overseas to get your drugs for you. That is my simple message. And we should live thanking God daily that our genes, environment or whatever it was that have combined to wage this battle in our behalf, have all worked to bless us with some kind of immunity, instead of living in painful denial. But for that the situation would have been clearly chaotic and superbly unmanageable.
I really appreciate your depth of reasoning on this issue. Regards
Once upon great write-up smiley.
