Proper preventive guidelines should be put in place before re-opening schools. Infact primary and secondary schools should be excluded for now.
what about higher institutions? They are as risky as the others

I see no reasons why schools are still under lockdown, all we need to do is to observe all the precautionary measures and we are good to go.
In this part of the world? grin. Well I too would like for them to reopen just to see them reshut angry. What are they doing so we reach our comfort zone cos the entirety of June doesn't speak safe undecided

Please don't open schools until this subsides or a cure/vaccine is found.

Children can't observe the necessary, they are vulnerable, and some do have vulnerable parents/grandparents at home.

Even adults too grin

When I read posts like these, I wonder if you understand the whole Covid-19 matter. You think Covid-19 is something that will just vanish like harmattan?

Keep waiting till cases are zero before you open up. You may wait for a few years.
But also not when spreading is still rampant.

Hopefully, reopening schools will not lead to a second wave sad. Imagine a lecture theater meant for 500 students with 1500 students squeezed in. It is well!
But we aren't even through the first wave

Hmm, the irony of life.

When we had less than 200 cases of coronavirus we went on lockdown; now, it's over 12k cases and we are disengaging the lockdown.

Las las, we go dey alright!
So you would accept another lockdown? I wish they was a way for survey here but not with skewed votes

My question is by the time the fg relaxes the interstate lockdown, can Kogi and crs still maintain their claims of being Covid-19 free?
I don't know of what's happening in C/Rs but Kogi would like to continue grin. It's just bad we don't even have investigative media and of course no sense of health statistics, so if they're truly covid free(which they aren't) grin we'll never know. Cross River doesn't seem to be doing testing also and unless they're saying they sealed the state airtight I don't believe they're truly covid free. So a July awaits Nigeria cheesy

We all know that the lockdown was not effective in Nigeria becuz a lot of people did not adhere to it, most especially in Lagos.

In other countries, the govts gave adequate palliatives to their citizens so that they won't feel the impact of the lockdown but the reverse was the case in Naija.

So we ended up making a big mockery of the whole aim of the lockdown. You can see that as some other countries are now able to re-open fully, we are still have increasing cases in most African countries.
And now our government expects the thing to stabilise when we reopen undecided.

Schools that are shut will still be reopened after decontamination and staff and students cleared of the virus. They won't stay closed for ever.

So far as Nigeria and Nigerians can not do the China type of total lockdown, it is waste of time keeping healthy people and school children at home. We simply lack the discipline to do effective lockdown. The school children are still walking up and down despite their schools being closed.

COVID19 may be here till 2025, judging by our behavior and lack of discipline. I went out yesterday with a face mask, and people kept telling me to remove it, that Coronavirus has finished. Imagine that.

COVID19 may not go away from some countries in the next ten years. The only compromised solution to solving the issue of reopening schools is to increase the capacity to test so that COVID19 is detected quicker. Communities and even schools that can afford it, should be allowed to build test centers. Thankfully, children are known to survive the virus.
Boss you're so on point. I agree with everything thing you said. I just wish people would know that if we're to open it will be with extreme caution not just because we have to. It still boils down to our present response and preparedness. Nigeria is where you want to build a house and you pay for foundation when you don't even know your site. You can imagine ASUU are still on strike grin, nothing said about them. I can bet since the closure of institutions none have initiated any form of maintenance or development of existing structures and for the management of the present health crisis. Cos I know My school in particular will be a good playground for this virus grin. So yeah Nigeria undecided sad

In South Africa, schools opened today.

The news in this thread stated that NINE schools were shut in Israeli, not all schools, and over six thousand students and teachers isolated.

Nigerian school children, who are supposed to be at home, are busy roaming their streets, visiting friends, playing football in the evenings and some even attending lessons organized by neighbourhood teachers. And we say,"Our schools are closed."

Israeli is able to trace COVID19 To some schools, shut the schools and isolate students. If any of the Nigerian school children who are roaming the streets tests positive today, where will the tracing and isolation begin, and where will they end?
and until coming weeks when we start hearing schools shutting down cos of cases. How we all wished the virus was only transmissible by touching surfaces embarassed

Am really worried about getting the schools opened in Nigeria. While we have total lockdown of Schools in Nigeria other nations are schooling and graduating their students. A school in US had virtual convocations in May. While nations are moving on despite corona virus we are breeding 1million boys. The church and the mosques should not only be concerned with opening the worship centers. But must work with Government on how to open the schools as well. The future of the churches and mosques is in the educated children. in fact even the developed world with all their infrastructure still had a tough time discerning how precisely to handle the situation with the virtual learning and they all agreed that what they were able to come up with it is still not the same quality as the normal school session. Not to now talk about our case in Nigeria without infrastructure.

For example most programs in Edinburgh university UK did not continue lectures, fortunately in all Uk schools it was already close to end of session, they just told the students to continue to read materials which were normally available to them online.
They then started thinking of how to do the exams, all exams were postponed while all this thinking was going on eventually they concluded exams will be done online, a two hour paper but they will have 48 hours to write, and submit. The 48 hours is to accomodate infrastructural inequity issues across the student population knowing that some of them may have poorer internet access.

I also know that medical student in Newcastle University for example did not write final exams because of the difficulties thrown by inadequate infrastructure for the type of virtual exam they will require. They simply graduated them based on all of the past performances in exams and their clinicals, and so on and so forth .
So infrastructure is key. When majority of the lecturers buy their computers, softwares, data and pay for powers and even stationaries that they use for their work from their salaries. Also how many students have access to the infrastructure they need to receive virtual learning from us on the other end in Nigeria? All these are pertinent issues.
We're in trouble in Nigeria
Simply put virtual learning can't suddenly work in Nigeria. Definitely not with a global crisis.

what efforts? With about 200 recoveries and 6 deaths? undecided. Vietnam has 0 deaths and they didn't make noise about it. My dear, your so called advantage could also be a heavy disadvantage because if it wasn't handled well and on time it could have wiped out the country.
1. It's an island so no where to run to or hide.
2.The population is low so every single person could have gotten it in a matter of two weeks if they didn't strictly isolate inside their home on time.

So kudos to their efforts and discipline.
Obviously their swift and rapid response was key. But their population helped as well. It's easier to impose restrictions on 5 million people on an island than countries with populations larger than 50million. Yeah kudos to them though unless their entire population has been tested and affirmed, they shouldn't let their guard down

This virus is real, Nigerians are just lucky not to be hard hit like other countries. I have seen people who just recovered with same symptoms I have been reading about like lost of smell and lost of taste some had terrible fever and sore throat.
With what i have seen so far, I think the government should reopen the country fully and allow both government and private hospitals to treat the very sick ones. Most people claimed they did self medicating but they are fine now and what is funny about everything is that these same people claim there is nothing like coronavirius.
This thing swept through surulere from last two weeks and it seems the it's already going away. Most people have experienced t and they don't tell anybody .
You're trying to propose we're reaching herd immunity grin. Well the ncdc should try and look into that grin but going by Sweden and what experts are saying herd immunity is going to be a hard and long road for this virus.

We need a vaccine quick
So we just lose the whole year shocked? I don't know how that'll work. The holes and lapses that were present in our education sector and now during this pandemic, schools will just turn to dust. A lot of mistakes of the past are gonna bite us now like the hostel thing you mentioned angry.
