I hope it proves to be sensitive and specific enough, so it can be validated quickly for possible use.

We can't keep waiting for PCR test which is less accessible and takes about 4 days sef for result to come out , and what is paining me seriously about this thing is that patients who have other diseases with symptoms similar to covid 19 are actually being rejected from hospitals because of the inability to test for covid 19 and are thus sent home to die.

Moreover, at this snail pace at which NCDC is testing, I am wondering how they want to achieve their aim of testing 2 million Nigerians by June ending. Maybe they meant June next year sha since they're still on about 60k tests atm.
Wow a comment not attacking ptf or NCDC. At least before the usual comments arrive sad.

yeah they probably mean June next year if we're to go buy their 2000 daily tests.

If there is a daily malaria statistics like COVID-19, we will see clearly that malaria kills daily in Nigeria far more than COVID-19 but why we focused more on this and Government is claimed to be spending fortune to curtail the spread.

Tertiary institutions should have moved online immediately the lockdown was triggered.

Most private primary and secondary schools are now teaching online. All they needed was about 1 week training and provision of required amenities for teachers.

Any higher institution that cannot switch to online teaching is a disgrace. Open universities have been operating for years and mostly online. So, I still can't figure out why higher institution students are not learning from home. Only practical aspects of courses may be suspended till physical schools resume. These are the things ASUU should be fighting for, instead of shameless strikes for an flimsy excuse.

Coronavirus should not be an excuse for anybody to stop learning. Even many workers used the opportunity of the lockdown to learn new things online.
Lets not kid ourselves. Online learning is a charade here. We didn't initiate all this while but suddenly they tout it during a pandemic? This is the real scam Nigerians should be calling out not covid.

uunwanaobong3:
As for the protest in America is good oooooo,. BUT it is a good protest at a very wrong time. Here are my reasons;

1) over thousand and millions of people have gather in America and other parts of the world to protest,,,, have we even realize that this is a pandemic period that we should be isolating.......... Because of Floyd's death, I can see more than 500,000 covid infection and more than50,000 people dying due to Corona virus infection within the crowd..... Democrat and CNN will not talk about this repercussion, they want to blame everything on Trump.
U wouldn't see the WHO coming out to warn the people about the dangers of large gathering and protesting world wide at this dangerous times of covid19 ............................. Also i feel that state governors in USA and other world leaders like in Canada, Britain etc purposely exposed their people to contact more covid infection and death, by standby and watch while the people gather in large number. Whatever evil intension those leaders have, right it is only God that can serve those mass protesters....... This action alone can bring about second wave of the virus which will be fatal

2) the world is under great economics depression and in America alone there are 50million job losses, ... The protesters who are vandalising and burning down businesses all in the name of protest and are being encouraged by CNN and Democrat governors, have they realize that this rascal behavior will lead to more recession and job lose for innocent citizen........ I know they want to blame everything on Trump.

3) the whole thing has turned political through CNN and action of Democrat governors.
First, it was about impeachment of trump, they failed.

Then come Corona virus, .....instead of the press to tackle china and WHO for the spread of Corona virus in the world, the press world wide were tackling Trump as if Trump is the president of the world and as if Trump was the one that brought the virus to the world...... In Democrat state like new York, governors freely allow the people to get infected, so as to blame Trump for the numbers of the dead, the media we're insulting the president up and down with stupid questions during presidential press briefing....,.over 100,000 Americans have died mostly in Democrat state.. again they have failed because U.S have done x10 more tests than any country, more ventilator and PPE than any country........ CNN have realized that people are no longer buying the lying stories about Trump, so if you observed, they no longer report on covid stories gain, they have now shifted their attention to racism....

thank God Trump has taken U.S out of WHO.
Let me see how China will fund WHO.

What police did was wrong, and the policemen were duly sacked, arrested and charged with murder, ..... But the press and CNN chooses to feed on the story, encouraging voilent protest and destruction of public/private properties....
The Democrat state governors and states police chooses to standby and watch public properties going up in flame without taking any action to stop the vandalism....... And when Trump condemned their weakness and conspiracy, they begin to criticized him...... To an extent that CNN decide to send a black reporter on a Frontline between police and riot protesters, when the reporter was arrested for endangering his own security (he could be hit by stray bullet bottle, stone, fireworks etc) they changed the narrative to racism.

Finally Trump is not perfect oooooo, infact he can't talk as a president, he is so unpolished in his act, but believe me Democrat, press and other world leaders are trying to destroy Mr Trump, using the poor masses as collateral damages.

America racism problem is a systematic one, it is not based on a particular president..... Racism has infiltration the Constitution, police acts and other key institutions in the USA.
When the protesters shifted the blame from institutional failure to protect them (such as police act, Constitutional amendment and judicial baise) to Donald Trump speeches, I immediately know that the protest was quickly hijacked by Democrats..............., Obama was a black man and a good orator but more blacks were killed in his administration than any other president.
The problem is not the president but the system.

If there is one thing I know, Trump really care for Americans but doesn't give a shit about outside world,... Americans should indeed appreciate their president because he loves them.

Trump is the most insulted president in the world, even a the Tweeter owner, get the guts (mind) to remove a presidential tweet or address to the nation on Tweeter......... That is the highest level of disrespect to the office of the president of United States of America.............. If I were Trump Tweeter would have paid heavily for every bit of that disrespect.... The tweeter owner would have stayed alive and watch helplessly as his billions becomes thousands.

Even a Chinese jornalist get mine to ask Trump a very stupid question about trump Corona virus competition, ..... a question that even she dare not ask Chinese president xie.

It was so disgusting to watch a police inspector yesterday on CNN telling a whole US president (Mr Trump) that if he does not have anything to say "HE SHOULD SHUT UP"... simply because Trump criticized them for allowing vandalism to take place.......... ..I am not sure any president in the world would have taken this lightly from a public official.....he wasn't even warn by CNN to at least respect office that Trump occupied.

CNN has loose all credibility, they have shown that they are media wing of Democrat party by reporting loop sided stories. E.g when the protesters were disperse at White House so that Trump could have access to the vandalized St John's Church... the media says that the protesters were peaceful, but the question is if the protesters were peaceful, why was that church vandalized in the first place........... there is a lot of cover up in the media so as to carried out their evil intension of misinforming the world.

Honestly I must commend the endurance of Mr Trump, u really try to endure them

Black community should be very careful in this crises, they start on a positive note ..... But when the going get bad and urgly, they (black) will be blamed for everything that happened. Nobody will mention the white, Chinese, Hispanics or other ethnic groups
America is in for a full second wave.

I implied in my post you quoted that if over ten thousand people had been infected so far, it then means that the virus would have permeated the Nigerian populace more than being reported. If that was the case, then we would have been in a crisis situation where more people would have been in critical conditions requiring respiratory support with more fatalities being recorded.

Now, how does my statement above call for you trying to lecture me about number of active cases, discharged cases and those symptomatic or asymptomatic? As if I didn't know alreadyhuh And as if those discharged were not part of the over ten thousand total infections?
I say this month will really tell for Nigeria and Africa at large.

Investnow2017:
I always appreciate your contributions to Covid-19 thread on NL. I am just curious though. Have you noticed? Though reports of new cases are still quite high worldwide, the death rates have steadily reduced.
And I find some similarities between the Covid-19 experiences of Ghana and those of Nigeria, although Ghana is doing reasonably better in terms of management overall. Ghana and Nigeria have very very infinitesimal figures of serious/critical patients. While Ghana has less than 5, Nigeria as a whole with it's over 6,000 active cases has just 7 cases of patients in serious condition. Which means that a vast majority of reported confirmed cases are mild to moderate. This explains why recovery rates are quite high.
That said, why does Nigeria report more deaths? What this statistics may portend is my cause for worry. The statistics tells me that reported deaths are basically of those who may have succumbed to this virus outside the isolation centres. Indicating that there is a general apathy on the part of patients with Covid-19 cases not showing up for testing until their situation has become critical or only reported posthumously in case of fatality.
There are no less than 3 prominent Nigerians that have succumbed to this Covid-19 whose deaths were simply shrouded for what reason I really cannot tell.
While the death rates have substantially reduced worldwide, because of the unwarranted stigma attached to this virus in this clime, I see this trend of carriers of prominent status in Nigeria raising the fatality figures unless they come clean with their status. One other reason will be their fear that this virus is not even better managed outside Africa, afterall and so would not be inclined to take advantage of medical trip outside our shores.
All said, reducing this pandemic to a scam is a great disservice to right thinking concerned individuals anywhere. Attaching a stigma to it is even worse. That will be a great disadvantage going forward. You noticed 14 deaths were reported yesterday while critical cases on NCDC watch are only less than 10. Sad.
.
Thanks but I appreciate yours more. Concerning deaths I think that's due to increased knowledge about treatment and management of the virus. Reason why first observers like Italy, Iran, Spain experienced hell. Why we seem unbothered by our curve and trajectory I don't know. Our testing inconsistent, recoveries clearly not matching new infections, they didn't really enact things during the lockdown and now people have virtually opened everywhere. Concerning deaths, they don't even give us details about that. Honestly I hope they don't think it's by dropping figures and call it a day undecided.

I think this month will actually shed light on covid in Africa. I remember WHO projecting the continent to be the world epicenter by July and frankly wouldn't want to see that happen. But I could see US becoming world epicenter again after what's happened there.

BTW keep it up with your contributions and analysis. Really enjoy them as sometimes the news are too much to find unlike the way you present them. And may I ask where you got the data on critical patients? Browsed through the ncdc site and couldn't find anything like that.

Pastors are worried that social distancing will reduce the capacity of the church and thereby decrease offerings. I'm not even sure if all these attempts at social distancing is effective considering that when you sneeze droplet aerosols can travel as fast as 100,000 miles per second. So how exactly does a 6ft distance prevent the spread? The one that makes me laugh the most is the proposition that airplanes should fly with the middle seat empty; how does it prevent the spread of aerosols in and closed compartment?
The world is confused about this virus. You reduce capacity more than that and you might as well not approve air operations.

I won't denie the fact that there is Corona virus in this country, but I don't believe the increase is all as a result the virus. Isn't it obvious by now that 90% of the case is not covid 19 related but of malaria cause I see more people going to pharmacy or hospital and returning home as malaria diagnosed patients.
All I know is that the numbers will keep increasing as much as more people are tested. Even if the country is on a ten-year lockdown, the numbers will never decrease because over 60% of the country battles with malaria, and it's a day to day thing.
To me all this is just overhyped, afterall we've had worst cases than this. Nevertheless, we all know the precautions so let's implement them and go back to our daily activities.
As time goes businesses keeps collapsing...
So health workers don't know how to diagnose again grin

Exactly! We are more reactive than we are proactive. Buhari and his taxforce are not taking stringent measures to contain the spread. This Covid has really exposed Nigeria on so many levels.

*We don't have a database, the presence of one could have eased and ensured the equal distribution of palliatives

*Our security operatives are seriously outmatched. The spate of robberies that characterised the former lockdown in Lagos is proof that our security operatives are outnumbered. They couldn't even hold a single local govt. Robbers moved from street to street even with the presence of cops at checkpoints

*Nigeria does not have an economic recovery plan.

*Nigeria is NOT the giant of Africa, if the pandemic had the effect it has in the U.S.A on Nigeria, almost half the population of citizens may have contracted the virus.
You hit the nail on the head bro. It's like we just plan without planning anything. I'm shocked with what's happening governments are still heeding to open up public places sad. I'm still shocked eid prayers even happened like that but that's passed. It's like our active cases are going up yet they see nothing wrong!. And now we have to contend with people calling it a scam angry. Corona has so many things to play to its advantage here angry. Nigeria was not in its best state before covid, now covid has come to clash with that same state and we don't know how to go about it. I was just imagining if Nigeria had more entry points sad.
