The thing is not all courses require you to secure a supervisor before admission and regarding WES, just because you don't have doesn't mean others don't have. Mind you, i only said the school is waiving app fee. Zihno: Well it’s not a matter of meeting the requirements or applying, securing a supervisor isn’t easy. And sending official Wes evaluation and gre score cost money especially if one isn’t sure of getting in. But thank you for the information. Others who are interested can apply. |

If you meet the requirements, you can apply Zihno: This school do not fund Masters students ( Please correct me if I’m wrong). They also require you to secure a supervisor before you’re admitted into their PhD program and they need official transcript evaluation and GRE score. |

Application fee waiver doesn't mean you won't get funding if it's available EmeDavid: Bro, you're right. My profile is very very weak. I need to up my game now. I will try to gather all the other parts of my application, which are GRE, Even if is one publication, stronger SOP, if I have the funds I evaluate my transcript, then apply strategic; strategic I mean is, applying to schools in a region not to known, and also making sure I run away from those hat waive Application fee. |
Travel › Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 17 by Sisib15: 10:23am On Jan 28, 2023 |
What i would advise is that you should take some standardized test like GRE and score very high above 300 If I am not mistaken, regarding recommendation letters, write the letters yourself and send it to your recommenders. Secondly, do WES evaluation if you have the money. Thirdly, your Statement of Purpose. Is it well written. You can write and give it to like three people to scrutinize it for you. Even if you will outsource your SOP write your story by yourself first. Regarding publication, start writing now you can publish it on research gate. When applying to schools, choose schools that you are above their requirements and at at same time meet your needs. Finally, don't forget to read previous threads. You can put your course of study on google and add nairaland behind it. This search will take you to previous threads and those who have done something similar to yours. I wish you all the best EmeDavid: Honestly, I would love to contact someone who will guide me. Currently, I have convinced myself to accept the fate that us most likely I won't be getting any offer this fall anymore.
I'm more curious on what to do to improve my application and give it a shot again the next fall 2024.
Please anyone here to guide?
Base on the remaining schools, it's only God can do it, as it stand now, my only hope it's God, any other thing I'm out. |

Funding for admission because one of my friends got a fully funded phd offer from Washington University for fall 2023 and they interviewed her during the virtual fair. EmeDavid: I don't understand, funding for what? Is it for application fee waiver or admission? Please give me guidelines. |
Travel › Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 17 by Sisib15: 9:50am On Jan 28, 2023 |
Calm down first!! Admission rejection is not the end of the world. Just be calm first. Maybe you should talk to someone to guide you. Phd is not as easy as you think and it's quiet competitive. EmeDavid: My only reason for applying to a Ph.D. instead of going for a master's first is based on the funding. Most masters do not find their students, many are partial funding, meanwhile, just very few may be fully funded.
Traveling without enough funding it's not worth it unless you have the finance, otherwise, it will be very difficult to survive.
I can't accept any offer if it's not fully funded, provided that I didn't come from a rich family. I have three more schools for Ph.D. and just one for Masters. But the master's is not my line of study. I'm am a Biochemist and the school It's environmental and earth science, but if accepted, it's fully funded. I'm just confused.
At this time, I want to hear lies, just to console myself |

Just a subtle reminder that February is around the corner, virtual grad fair invites will be sent by graduate school make sure you attend these meetings because sometimes, these may be interviews and that's how they decide if they will be give you funding or not.
I wish us all a good news in the coming month. |

I can do it for you as low as 110k BigDickProblems: Good day everyone.
I finished school 2021 and I am yet to serve. This is because I have been so busy with jobs. I am a developer currently working remotely with some companies as side Gig, and also working on-site (though some days are free for me) with one company in Lagos.
So now I want to serve the country. There is this guy in my contact list telling me that I need to pay about 150k just to make sure I get my PPA in my organization here in Lagos. Seriously?.
On a second thought, I know that some of you here are one of those NYSC Guys (who does all this redeployment stuffs), but pleas I need your honedt advice. My organization told me they can provide me letter to submit in camp to NYSC but this guy told me that it will not work that way and that I still need to pay. Seriously?
Please, I want to do my NYSC here in Lagos, in the same organization where I work and I don't want to pay anybody shishi to do it. I don't believe I am owing anybody just because I want to serve Nigeria.
Pls advice. Thanks. |

Well maybe for my course. MA in English. I reached out to the graduate school coordinator and they told me that their funding is for PhD students Schrodinger2: Who said so?
That you have not gotten doesn't mean they do not give funding. It depends on what you put forward, and how you went about it. |
Travel › Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 17 by Sisib15: 3:23pm On Jan 22, 2023 |
UC Boulder does not give funding Schrodinger2: Hey guys, if you're willing to withstand the extreme cold during the winter season in Colorado, I'd advise you guys to apply all major schools here. (UC Boulder, CSU Fort Collins, UC Denver, Colorado School of Mines, etc). This is unlike the East coast and Southern US with many applicants but better seasonal weather.
Generally, there are few blacks here and not many Nigerians come to the Mid-west due to the cold, and life style. Hence, I feel you stand a chance of being funded with a very good profile.
Reach out to me for a referral link for your credit card if you're resuming this spring or you just arrived the US this January. There's a mutual benefit. |

Jobs/Vacancies › Re: I Cannot Take Up That Job, N150,000 Monthly Salary Is Too Small! by Sisib15: 12:53am On Jan 15, 2023 |
I love reading your posts. It motivates me to do better. I studied English Education. I have two years experience in sales, and business operations. Currently doing my NYSC. I will be through in March. Please i need a job IyaTola: I cannot take up that job, N150,000 monthly salary is too small!
Last year, a fresh graduate rejected the job I got him
I asked him to take the job for 6 months so that he can gather experience for his next job, but he didn't listen
He is still at home trusting God
I have had to advise a lot of graduates and professionals regarding whether to take up a role where the salary is small.
Some think the salary is belittling and not up to their worth.
I have also seen a lot of people on social media advising graduates not to settle for less which I disagree.
Your decision depends on whether you have a job at hand or not.
I believe it's better to accept a job with low salary than sitting at home to do nothing.
Once the salary can cater for your feeding and transport, you are fine.
No experience is a waste and no matter how bad a job is, you will learn something even if it is tolerance and perseverance.
You have an experience to point to.
You can't ask for a lion share (Salary) with a fish brain (no experience)
At the earliest days of my career,
I was living in Mowe -Ibafo axis, Arepo to be precise, working at Yaba and the salary was small,
I do wake up as early as 4:30am to enjoy cheap transport to Ojota
And BRT to Yaba were cheaper compared to 14 seater Bus.
Then, I do take standing in the BRT bus because it is cheaper than taking a seat
Infact standing was my hobby
I will get to the office 6am and wait till 8am when other staff will resume.
The pay was small, I worked as late as 8pm but the experience was BIG and worth it.
Later, I joined another company with double salary.
The rest is history today,
If you are in doubt of taking a job because of the pay, accept the offer,
Give your best, learn as much as you can, don't get carried away and keep your eye on your goal.
Remember, if you are too big to do small things, you will be too small to do big things
Do you agree? |
