But we can solve this once and for all, let's just rob Algeria, I mean, we already have an inside man, here on nairaland grin grin
People gotta learn to have debates without raising their blood pressure lol, it ain't that complicated. I come here to have fun with my brethren, not get into drama, i don't do crazy.
Ferrari is faster than Lamborghini...... "No it's not, you idiot".
See, that's not how to have a conversation. It's mad childish.
If you think one country is more powerful than another, lay down your case, others will lay down theirs and you compare and contrast lol, why pop a vein over that? Not like na my papa be the President. Sheet
Now moving on.

This man be talkative.
With all due respect, i think you are mental.
people, check my previous comments about people being insulted unwarranted, I made it clear , many times, it was uncalled for, if not deserved. Comments are still on here, search for it if you want.
Freedom of speech? That doesn't mean freedom from consequence, i respect anyone's right to comment, insulting people without cause is what i disagree with, that's too hard for you to understand? Why do you rant so much? Mr "I don't defend", check my past comments, you will see how foolishly wrong you are. Why can't people have such debate without insults? It's odd, even up till now I'm not mad at you, but you seem worked up for some reason, why is that? It's nairaland , calm down, not like someone is paying you to comment on here lol, why the aggression.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, when SLBM was insulted here, i made clear it was uncalled for, even though I've had my own disagreements with him.
Please bro, take your pills.
I run go America? lol, that's odd, being here since i was a teenager, wasn't my call, but it's my second home now, if that pisses you off, hug a transformer. I won't justify myself to a nobody, an insane one for that matter. This is me saying you are not the kind of person I'd respect, because there's something mentally wrong with you.
SupremeCourt:
Why are you challenging him? I have been called weed smoker, stupiid felow, senseless man here many times in unprovoked attacks by people I have no prior issues with, I never saw you challenge them for insulting me without cause. You see, that spirit of selective 'justice' and padi padi that you people do here, is a symbol of the rottenness of Nigeria as a whole, same thing your leaders use to wreck your lives and cheat you.

You, I pity those who agree with you to mess up Nigerian social media, they dont check your profile to see that you have run away overseas when the mess of Nigeria tire you. You dare not in in your America or whatever place go on an American forum in Oyinbo land and tell somebody to stop commenting on a discuss you dont like, they will flush your black azz out of their forums for challenging freedom of speech.

What you cannot do in America, you come here many times and do it, and make Nigeria an insane society, and some fools here support you blindly while you mess up where they live but you enjoy freedom of speech in USA where you live. Shame on you bro.

It's quite sad to call people engaged in a conversation "Assholes", you should grow up, I'm sure you can make your point without insulting people you had not prior issues with. The hell is wrong with some people.

Zoharariel:
Bros, I am 100% in concurrence with your submission.

I swear to Ogun & Sango - Algeria will cripple Nigeria in just 2 weeks.

The assholes you're arguing with don't even know how war works. They think it's about their useless infantry that will be completely obliterated with the "BM-30 Smerch" even before the war begins. grin

I get the feeling some people are actually sweating and boiling up with anger on this forum while typing, is it really that serious?
We are chatting hypothetical here, calm down lol.
Okay, Algeria will cruise into Nigerian territory with 4 hrs and whoop us, got it. Yawn, now moving on.
If only wars were cheap or easy.
Foreign AffairsRe: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by Sizzorkay: 3:03pm On May 14, 2019
Lord, if that same bh fought Nigerian military in a conventional war, BH menace would have been over within weeks. To compare BH run and hide attacks to conventional war is lunacy.
And no, Algeria won't defeat Nigeria inside Nigeria, it will be a bloody affair. Remember, war doesn't start without cause, so if Nigeria have Algeria as a natural enemy that could attack at any given moment, Nigeria would have prepared for that.( yes one shouldn't wait until there is a threat, i get that)
Algeria have potential enemies, and theirs are capable, that's why they are constantly arming up.
It takes time for wars to start, one country you have no issues with won't just wake up one morning and drive into your territory and start killing, for what.
And again, comparing state actors to non-state actors, BH are terrorists, criminals, why would they ask for permission to commit crimes.
SupremeCourt:
How difficult was it for Boko Haram to make our soldiers run away as they uproot Nigerian army bases, enter NAF base destroy jets and helicopter gunship, capture army barracks and loot our armouries, take over our tanks and use them against us, capture 60 towns and establish caliphate government on land size big as Belgium collecting taxes from Nigerians? We forget so soon? The price we paid for beating our chest proudly with our obsolete weapons? Pride goes before a fall.

Anybody saying one country will never fight another is a fool claiming to be God that knows the future. Algeria fought big war vs its fellow Islamic brother Morocco, they killed one another brutally like cow for suya. You dont fear a man that can kill his own brother?

Algeria vs Nigeria, they are only 4 hours by straight land speed drive to Nigeria on shortest border line to border line, speed and type of vehicle determines time across open lands with no natural barrier to stop them. Algeria needs no permission from Niger Republic to cross their open desert or did Boko Haram get transit visa from Niger and Chad to drive those hundreds of anti-aircraft toyota technicals from Libya to Borno?

Nigeria will fight back and try not to lose, but we will sustain initial very very very heavy army casualties, all our current junk tanks and all armoured vehicles will be destroyed, we will beg for foreign help in disgrace, and then re-arm, then try win back our lost territory. The wide gap between weapons of Algerian army and Nigerian army is too wide a gap, too dangerously wide, thats what we are saying. Our leaders are not wise does not make we followers fools, its a matter of who has privilege to occupy positions of authority in Nigeria.

I just re-wrote what ordinary Boko Haram did to Nigerian army 2014, anybody who says Algeria is weaker than Boko Haram is a fool, a super-fool grin

Might wanna read what i already wrote before repeating same thing.

Regardless of whether a bullet is in it or not, it's a stupid thing to put weapons in the hands of criminals.

NPF is really fond of placing weapons close to criminals when parading them for the press. We are going to learn the hard way some day if we refuse to change.
Foreign AffairsRe: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by Sizzorkay: 7:50am On May 14, 2019
A gun without bullets is just paper weight, and I'm sure there are cops there with guns.
Or you think those guns were loaded? lol. Then again, knowing Naija, they might be.
Though i agree, it's stupid doing stuff like that, and we always do. Why even parade suspect, detain them and let the courts sort them out and the media report on it

This man funny sha.
What radioactive waste? US will not use Nukes against Iran, i don't see that happening.
And you forget that fighting a war isn't about winning, the reason why Iran isn't attacked yet, is because it will be a costly war for the US, and the moment more US soldiers keep arriving home in a body bag, the more that war becomes unpopular back home.
It's all about the cost of fighting Iran, does the US have the appetite for such, that's the question.
They can defeat Iran, obviously, but it will cost them.
And comparing the old war btw Iraq and Iran is off the mark, the Iran that fought Iraq back then is different from the Iran of today
Foreign AffairsRe: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by Sizzorkay: 11:50pm On May 11, 2019
That's where influence come into play, Nigeria can either force Benin ( that is, threaten) not to allow such on her territory, or we bribe them, that is, offer them something they need.
If our enemy offer them more, including protection, then we are screwed, it's called politics for a reason, we don't own them.
It's like saying how come Russia and Ukraine don't get along simply because they are neighbors, regardless of their history. Neighbors won't always have your back
Nicheey:
In order to use benin republic as a staging ground benin republic will have given full consent, now brotherly do you think benin republic will allow their country to be used against her neighbor with
who the share good relationship with?. Even if she does, just a week and Nigeria will annex that country.
Foreign AffairsRe: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by Sizzorkay: 8:23pm On May 11, 2019
Haha, oh man, people are funny on this thread lol.
This whole thing started when we talked about Egypt vs Nigeria, now it's benin or Cameroon or whatever? That wasn't the convo we was having lol. And like the other dude said, our neighbors can be used as staging area, it's possible, if you have backstabbers for neighbors, it can happen.
Anyways, let's move on fellas.

Just lack of planning, it's like the country just take it one day at a time, without a solid plan for the future, then we get caught napping.
So instead of preparing for the worst, we react after it has already started, but with more exposure and education, activism, we will get there.
After all these political godfathers are all dead, perhaps then Nigeria can finally sort herself out

I don't expect any Arab African country to do much for black Africa, these guys are more middle easterners than Africans, at least in their own minds. But some do deploy though, they just can do more.
Ever heard of an African, living in Africa, saying they are going to Africa? I have lol, because they don't see themselves as Africans ( some)

Sometimes, some people don't understand what it means for fight for country.
Number 1 thing you gotta ask yourself is, what has those in Government done to fix the country.
Do we have welfare system in Nigeria?
Home loans?
Credit cards? If yes, how many people have one.
Bank Loans? In our case, you get 5 million naira, banks want it paid back in 2 weeks with over 20% interest.
Social security?
Retirement plan for those employed?
Mortgage system etc
The list goes on and on, so my point is, why would most Nigerians fight for Nigeria when the Govt right from time has been nothing but useless.
In other words, when Govt functions, there is no benefit to the people, and if the country get invaded and that same Govt collapses, there is no loss to the people, not like it mattered before.
You gotta have something to lose, before you fight for your country. In our case, children of poor people will go and die so the thieving rich politicians can keep on stealing, while unemployment is thru the roof.
We don't have a system in place to fight for, because we gain nothing from Nigeria for the most part. Unlike in developed countries where they have their way of life and systems in place that support the people, Nigeria have none, so what are you fighting for? Not saying not to, but to say 20 million Nigerians will enlist, i doubt that.
How many pensioners in Nigeria are dying daily while waiting for a pension that never arrive? Go to countries with serious leadership, you get your check when due.
Therefore if you expect patriotism, then have better support system in place for the people, let them see the benefit of having a stable and functional Nigeria, not the mess we currently call country.
Sorry for derailing smiley. Just my own opinion here, feel free to disagree, it's normal to

Israel has a bigger economy? Than Egypt? Lol, since when, Israel is like number 51 or 50, globally, while Nigeria is about 22 and Egypt 21.
Unless i searched wrong. So no, they don't have a bigger economy, not even close
Edit*
GDP per capital, yes Israel is up.
GDP based on PPP, Israel is way down
jln115:
in that case Israel as the advantage since it has a bigger economy and bigger more advanced defence industry.... With or without the USA Israel is still on top... Although only marginally.

Foreign AffairsRe: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by Sizzorkay: 5:57pm On May 08, 2019
We are pretty much saying similar things chief.
In my past comment i mentioned how most Nigerians won't even enlist to fight, it was someone else making a point about our huge population being an asset during a war, while i was saying, unless those 200 million Nigerians already have military training, it amounts to nothing.
And you need more than a huge population to fight a war.... Too many complexities
So we might have framed things differently, but that was similar point i was trying to make.

nemesis8u:
Let's start with your statement grin

For any country

If every citizen of a country of a certain age were to enlist how would it help the war effort meaningfully ?

Without a domestic civil military industrial complex is it possible to arm to the new recruits with appropriate weapons of war ?

Even if basic rifles and bullets r provided , is it going to make any substantial impact ?

Given that a enemy possessing land based armour and air based assets will turn it into a turkey shoot or not ?

If I were to persue a conventional conflict , then my first priority vis a vis the civilian population ( which supports the military ) will be to

1. Deny or control food resources
2. Deny or control transport and transportation
3. Deny or control basic life critical support like hospitals etc
4. Deny or control any local industrial capabilities
5. Deny or control active national institutions which can rally the population
6. Deny or control any means of communication / media
7. Deny or control the access to the nation's intelligencia.

Etc

Any country with a huge population will then end up having its huge population as a liability.

I haven't even touched the more relevant points which touch on how to win a fight with fighting a war ( with minimal effort ) as propounded by Chanakya.

The basic essence is to use the population of the country against the very same country. I will keep it short and very basic.

Note : almost all modern day conflicts were basically foreign interventions citing local dissent or facilitated by dissenting locals etc

Chanakya said " whores don't live in the company of poor men , citizens never support a weak king , birds dont built nests on a tree that don't bear fruit. "

The 2nd line is important , not necessarily limited to strong or weak governance but much broader in scope of issues. why did Syria Iraq Libya Pakistan ( 1971 ) etc crumble so fast ?

A nation divided among itself ain't strong. We as general public might put a brave face and proclaim ourselves as patriots and pretend everything is good but only very few have the pragmatism to see the fault lines in our countries as the case maybe.

As far as i can understand , in present day context nationalism is a poor mirror of propaganda and show biz. Unless every citizen has a personal stake in the survivability of his or country, expecting a strong defence is doubtful. It cannot be taken for granted ( as is usually the case ), expecting every citizen to identify with the cause of defending his country unless he has the motivation and reasons to ensure the continuity of the nation in the present state.

I kept it short as promised , atleast it seems to me grin

There r many ways to break a nation ( or occupy ) preferably by outsourcing and I have not alluded to not even one of them. Every individual country will need a individual case study.

The moment that man stop being useful to France, his downfall will begin. So as much as i respect what you said, i still think France has massive influence in that Country.
fabselad:
Seriously, am a cameroonian and when i listen to such it irritates me.President Biya(whom i don't really have any esteem for) is a masterpiece when it comes to politics.Gone are the days he took instructions from France. The presidential and the BIR which are the shield of the presidency are both trained and equiped by the israeli, the secret services are trained by the Russians and Israeli, the military is trained by Cameroonians trained by the Russians or Israeli. The equipemts used by the Cameroonian military are from diverse sources. So please don't think france has any leverage on cameroon again. It might still have some stings it can pull but things have changed.

leave them, all Egypt has to do is offer them something, and these are countries who might harbor ill will against Nigeria anyways.
And like i said before, my scenario doesn't account for geographical distance, so let's say we share borders with Egypt. No such thing as us winning a war against them. Anyways, just a fun discussion, now we move on grin grin

I know what we were talking about, i used the US as an example.
How come you never ask why after all these years, US forces and her allies are still in active combat in Afghanistan? I mean, they have able bodied Afghans there, why aren't they rushing over to enlist and fight for their own freaking country, I mean, after 10yrs, enough should have been trained to do just that.
When war starts, people want to go into hiding, make sure their family stays together, not stick their heads out and head to battle, most people won't.
What about Somalia, the list goes on and on.
harjorlarh:
we are talking about Egypt, moreover do u think Egypt can invade Nigeria, knowing full well ECOWAS would be involved?

lol, please speak your mind, this i wanna hear lol.
Unless every Nigerian have to enlist in the military at a certain age, i think like they do in Israel and South Korea etc, our huge population isn't that much of an advantage lol, unless you want to tie ropes around our necks and force us to fight, most Nigerians will bolt, just saying
nemesis8u:

same way the US invaded Iraq and her citizens kept their heads down, that is, at that point the survival of their loved ones was their top concern, 200 million or not, most Nigerians will not enlist to fight, unless forced, which is a bad idea, besides you gotta train them too.
Why would Egypt wanna hold territory? they will decimate us and leave.
now of course im not taking distance btw both countries into account here
harjorlarh:
I said we can pull a surprise though, how do y expect them to invade a country of over 200 million people,i know Nigeria doesn't have modern equipment now but that can change very quickly in the advent of war,the only countries that can invade Nigeria and hold our territory within their powers are the USA, Russia, china except if they wanna nuke Nigeria tho

Making Africa proud? sheet, until their citizens tell you they are going to Africa, as if they aren't already part of it.
My point is, Egypt's interest mostly lies with the Arab world etc, personally i don't count anything they do or achieve as being part of Africa, that's just my opinion . But yep, they are amassing some serious power
bidexiii:
Egypt has the most powerful military in the continent and the twelfth globally (out of 137 countries) with a score of "0.2283, global fire index. With more than 211 jet fighters, Egypt is the ninth world's air power.
Egypt is really making Africans proud, 12th out of 137 countries... shocked
Currently Israel ranks 16th in the (G.F.P 2019) military ratings strength? These translate that Egypt is really investing in its modern military modernization. Can Egypt defeat Israel or will it be a stalemate in the eventuality of another Yom Kippur War.... ...... grin shocked huh

And i mentioned before, everyone has a right to their own opinion, without being insulted, i agreed with you on that.
