Dr. Okupe asked that critics of the government should tell it what to do, wrapping his defense of incompetence around a false patriotism.”

Mr. el-Rufai’s spokesman suggested that the Jonathan administration was bereft of ideas.

The former minister blasted Mr. Okupe, a recently appointed presidential aide, for excessive enthusiasm . The statement accused the presidential aide of seeking “to impress in his new job.” It then cautioned him to serve the president “with fidelity to history, and cease calling patriots that stand on principles his brothers just so he can smear them.” The statement added: “If the Jonathan administration wants El-Rufai to provide them a manual on governing Nigeria, they should do so nicely without violating his civil rights, harassing him incessantly or suggesting that the man wants to run for an office now being desecrated by an occupant who blames everyone but himself for his zero performance.” [/b]

frakasino: nairaland should not be a forum for throwing boorish remarks, insults or whatever on one another. Okupe's displayed a high level of reasoning and a sound argument which I except every discerning Nigerian with an unbiased mind to applaud. There have been instances of terrorism n insurgency even the most developed countries in the world, the toulouse shooting, September 11, Sheik temple shooting, Bulgarian bus bomb blast, London metro bombing.. just to mention a few. No politician or discerning individual called for the president's resignation.. these are countries with very high level of intelligence. What I expect from any Nigerian politician is not to politicise the situation but to give meaning suggestions on how to end this problem and this is coherent with Okupe's argument.

He argued that it is a well known fact that issue of insurgency is a very difficult national problem. “It is not anything peculiar to Nigeria. No responsible citizen of any of those countries affected by insurgency before call on their Presidents to resign,” he said.

"When he talks about intelligence, there is no better security in any country than by the people of the country. It is communal security that will help government and security agencies to root out insurgence. If people shielded insurgents, they make the works of security agencies more difficult.

When tragedy befalls a country, responsible men and women of that country forget partisanship and rally round their nation and they try their best to help existing government to tackle that. Once that is over, they go back to politics.

chucky234: What I have failed to understand is why NL keeps throwing bunches at each other whenever the issue of GEJ incompetence is raised,GEJ openly told Nigerians that he knows who the sponsors of BH are then what has been stopping him from arresting those behind the sect that has ravaged the country.
Maybe he is waiting the sect to wipe off the entire northern states before swinging into action,his SSAs are incompetent as well,what a shame.

Kobojunkie: This is the same Nigeria where people arose in January 2010 to demand NASS swear him in as Acting President, something I was against at the time given that what we needed was an impeachment of the the president. But they got their way.

edicolove: Being melodramatic in a public forum will not make you right. I am not a fan of Nollywood but the reason it hasn't improved much is because there are no Nigerians available to change it. All we have are arm chair critics like you and pastor Bakare. Talk is cheap they say and posting on NL is even cheaper. That being said, you have a right to agree with Bakare but that puts you in the elitist group who will not see the poor rise to greatness. The only question I have for you then is, when you seemingly "fought" for the poor in many of your precious posts, were you just a politically correct hypocrite or were you a schemer trying to use the poor to push an agenda like the typical Nigerian politician? Or maybe all of the above?
