Jayvallia: Hi ALL. I got in today through Birmingham. Transitted in Doha. I could have sworn I was the only black guy on that flight. The line was so long before it got to my turn. Handed in my passport and letter from Embassy only. Questions asked: Why are you here Have you been to the UK before : No Have you been refused before: Yes Why?: I explained my previous refusal.
Officer asks me to wait, he wants to run some checks. I didn't see this happen to anyone else. There were a lot of students, mostly Chinese. I really wasn't bothered cos I know I did everything right but there was still a bit of anxiety. About 5mins later he returns, hands me my passport and says welcome to the UK. I didnt do any of the biometrics I saw others do. Perhaps cos I have the new Nigerian passport. Congratulation! More of this we pray. Amen! |

He's stating in his letter he will support me with USD10,000 for my studies while I take care of the other expenses.
Thanks for your time Sponsor or Co-sponsor is advisably determined by the level of monetary commitment. |

Naijaforeigner: UK or Canada? Here is my take.
(1) There is no point sticking with Canada if they are trying to waste your time. It takes about 3-6 months to get a masters degree admission in Canada. In UK, it takes 5 working days to max of 1 month.
(2) In the UK, with a 2.2, you will get admission for masters and yes even with a third class, you will get masters admission in UK. In some UK schools, if you have HND, you can do a top up to BSC and then go for masters afterwards.
Instead of waiting to get admission for almost 4 months in Canada and then wait another 4 months for visa which is not guaranteed, you can beat all of that by getting admission to a UK school, get your visa within 15-30 working days or even make it faster by applying for priority or same day processing. UK student visa is straight forward and the easiest I have seen.
The only thing with UK student visa is you need to use your own account or parents account (or a combination of both). There is also an option of using a legal guardians account but I doubt if that can work in Nigeria as we don’t document these things. Do a Tuberculosis test and go for an interview. Trust me, the interview is easy.
However, I must say all students should always have the big picture in mind which is how can I get a PR. After 2 years post study, what next?
It is not that easy to get companies that will sponsor you but you can make it easy for yourself by getting a good result (most Nigerians get very good results in Canada and UK), get a job and apply for PR from the UK to Canada or if you are lucky to get a company that will sponsor you in UK, work for 5 years with the company and get your PR. Please when going for masters in UK, don’t waste money going for regular courses, go for courses where you can easily find jobs (do your research).
Why am I saying all this, time is money. If Canada is wasting your time, try UK since they now have post study and you can apply for PR to Canada from UK once you have worked for 1 year.
Also, most if not all schools in UK give admission for free (they don’t collect charges for application) and most masters in UK are 1 year or max of 16 months.
Please may I add, every information I have provided about UK admission and visa processing is based on my personal experience and visa knowledge while living in the UK for almost 5 years. Some processes might have changed. It is up to applicants to check the UK home office and schools website for current information on these processes.
I must also say that for all students, even if you move to UK, please try Canada PR while in the UK because there is uncertainty with the outcome of UK’s Brexit and this night likely affect UK economy in the long run. But for now, take advantage of this opportunity.
Shalom. Well done, Naijaforeigner. |

makano: Dunno why u guys keep asking this question? what next? Imagine as a skilled person, working in a UK company for 2 years and u put in handwork and make ursef useful and relevant to the company, and the company recognizes ur input to them.. Even if u dnt want PR, the company will make sure you are going no where and they fastrack ur PR asap cos of ur importance to them.. I had a friend in this situation, baba just went for his 1 year Masters and was lucky to work in one UK company, after a year they didn't release him oo, he is still in the UK now.. And this was when Uk was still doing their rubbish of going back to ur home country after studies.. Am sure he's a Citizen now.. And the Indians u talked about, just watch it. they will also start porting to the UK. Who doesn't wanna earn in pounds? Canada will start losing revenue from International students, so they will be calm with their refusal decision.. Thats the reason UK is starting this now, they are losing so much revenue from International students, so they needed to wake up... Canada needs more people in their country, so them seing this from the UK will calm them down.. For us to be sure, lets start seeing their decision from next year, if approval wont be more than refusal... I just pray Nigerians do not spoil the UK before then tho like the way they did to Canada...Peace I almost responded before seeing this. 100% |

Travel › Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by SOPWriter: 4:55pm On Sep 11, 2019 |
Sammy1210: LONG POST ALERT hello guys, this post is long overdue. So i was denied a visa to the US sometime last year for studies. I can't really remember the details of the interview but it went well till the part about sponsorship (a relative was sponsoring me and the VO's countenance changed immediately she noticed it). Anyway, i deferred my admission to the fall 2019 semester and also applied to another school in a different country because i wasn't about to give up this dream of getting a good education. I got admitted into the other school and applied for a study permit to Canada while also applying for my USA F1 visa again. My dad took opened an account for my educational purpose to satisfying financial requirements this time so i wouldn't get to use a relative as a sponsor. Fast forward to the night of the US interview and i got a denial letter regarding my study permit application. I was really confused and unsettled. I was so scared. All i thought of was how I would potentially be denied from two countries in the space of 24 hours(lol). My interview at the US embassy the next day goes as follows: VO: good morning, where are you going to? Me: I am going to bleep university for my Masters degree in Construction engineering. VO: When did you finish your first degree? Me: I graduated in 2014 with a second class upper degree and proceeded for my national youth service at the ministry of works and housing calabar where i was opportuned to work with experienced engineers, and after that proceeded to work at a start up for a year before taking up my new role at BLUHT where I currently work as a construction engineer. VO: Impressive, why do you want to get a masters degree. Me: As a matter of fact, I currently work with my dad and the company is an engineering consulting firm but I'd like to incorporate construction into the company, hence the need for this degree, as I would be leading the company to another phase upon my dad's retirement. So i feel the international exposure and quality education would do me a world of good. VO: Are you the first son? Me: (trying to crack a joke) you are partially correct and wrong as i am the only son. VO: na, i am correct and you are a bit wrong (obviously laughing at this point). Me: Okay, let's agree that we're both correct and partially wrong. VO: [laughs a bit] and says 'okay, let me have a look at your financials'. Thats the last thing i need to check. Me: I handed him my dad's bank statement and pointed out to him that that account was made solely for the purpose of my education.(which it actually was) Vo glance through it for a few seconds, picks up my passport at this point and sticks a paper on it, with the amount on my i20 written on the paper. Next thing, he throws the passport into a tray(I'm staring in disbelief at this point). VO: I'll be confirming your statement, if it is found to be false, you'll be banned permanently from the US, do you want to proceed? Me: of course yes(in my mind i'm screaming!!!!) VO picks up two white papers and says the golden words to me....I'm shaking at this point and can feel serious cold. I quickly collect the papers and zoom off before anybody called me back. I paid the cab guy taking me home an extra 1000 Naira. lol. it really was a miracle. I got my visa within 4days. From a denial to Canada a day before the interview to approved to the US the very next day. I actually cried fam! So I'm typing this now from my townhouse apartment in the US and saying to you guys, please don't give up. I spent a lot of money from visa fees to application fees and now I can say every penny was worth it! I'm finally getting the education I craved for and the experience has been awesome. pls, pls, pls.....keep pushing!!! Thank you to everyone who contributed and still does on this thread. I am truly grateful. For those applying for the Spring semester, i wish you good luck! Congratulation! More of this testimony we pray. Amen! |

Atlantic Canada still in the dark after Hurricane Dorian EMO urges drivers to stay off N.S. roads, Cape Breton Island expected to be one of last for restoration Mairin Prentiss - CBC News Crews are continuing Monday to chainsaw through trees and repair downed power lines across Nova Scotia in the aftermath of powerful storm Dorian, amid widespread outages and closures, including all public schools. More than 108,000 homes and businesses were still without electricity across the Atlantic region Monday evening, and officials in Nova Scotia have warned it could be up to a week for power to be restored in some areas of the province. "There are certain parts of Halifax that I can say, having seen it first-hand, that there are some very complex restorations that need to occur," Nova Scotia Power president Karen Hutt told CBC's Information Morning on Monday. "There are major tree damage." Dorian approached the region as a Category 2 hurricane and made landfall near Halifax on Saturday evening as a post-tropical storm with hurricane-strength winds. The province's South Shore and the Halifax area were most affected by outages, she said. Nova Scotia Power, a privately-owned utility, is managing its restoration plan according to the path Dorian struck, Hutt said, leaving Cape Breton Island as one of the last places in the province that will addressed. The utility's website said some Cape Breton communities may not have power restored until late Thursday night. On Monday at 10:59 p.m. AT, there were 108,260 Nova Scotia Power customers without electricity. In other provinces, the number of customers without power at that time were: 16,500 in Prince Edward Island. 2,988 in New Brunswick. Zero in Newfoundland. The Nova Scotia government will focus its efforts on restoring power and cellphone services on Monday, said Premier Stephen McNeil. The networks of several cell providers have been down or intermittently working following Dorian. Hundreds of Canadian Armed Forces staff deployed continued to help crews clearing roads and removing downed trees Monday. Preston Hurricane Dorian Crews work to clean up fallen trees on Wellington Street in Halifax, two days after Hurricane Dorian walloped the Atlantic region. (Brett Ruskin/CBC) Quebec's Magdalen Islands were also hit by the storm, prompting worries about coastal erosion and road damage. On Sunday, almost all of the islands' residents were without power but Hydro-Québec had restored power to most customers by Sunday evening. N.S. schools shut, drivers told to stay off roads Emergency management officials urged drivers to stay off the roads after snaking drive-thru lines at some of the few open fast-food restaurants impeded the path of emergency vehicles on Sunday. With many traffic lights out at major intersections, police were also warning those who did have to drive to treat those lights as a four-way stop. In Halifax, a parking ban is in effect on Tuesday along Beech Street. The ban will begin at 8 a.m. and will continue until the work is done — likely by Wednesday. The municipality said the parking restriction is needed to facilitate tree removal. The ban along Beech will be from Chebucto Road to Oak Street and Quinpool Road to Geldert Street. Public schools across Nova Scotia were closed Monday and will remain closed Tuesday. After weekend ferry closures, Marine Atlantic is keeping an eye on the weather forecast in hopes of getting its crossings between Newfoundland and Nova Scotia back on track. Dorian's storm system is tracking more than 280 kilometres off Newfoundland's Northern Peninsula into the North Atlantic. The hurricane left 70,000 people in need of food and shelter and at least 44 dead when it struck the Bahamas last week. There are fears a "staggering" untold number of people died as thousands remain missing after the Category 5 hurricane pummelled the islands for two days. The Outer Bank islands of North Carolina were also struck by Dorian, leaving four dead. Source: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.cbc.ca/amp/1.5275706
