Juju is like an invisible high voltage power line. Most amatures who meddle with it get burnt simply because they do not understand the rules governing it. Very Few are able to tap into this resevoir of power safely to achieve some ends. It is very little understood and therefore dangerous, but real.
@plaetton
Thanks for this input, there's really no better analogy for juju other than this.
FamilyRe: Why I Cheated On My Husband by splitnaija(m): 1:10am On Nov 05, 2011
There's no justifiable reason for any woman to cheat on her husband. I would really appreciate the Nigerian women version of reasons for  cheating

Actually most cases of magun were simply cases of the man developing high blood pressure/heart attack. Magun is just a fairy tale although one can also conclude that whatever is placed on the woman might have some potent virus which the man contracts after Being Intimate. It is explainable. It is not JUJU. The JUJU i dont agree with is the one of people dissapearing, and armed robber charm types
@phuck_nl

I have shared a personal experience with you of how armed robbers failed on five different occasions to rob my house
I have shared a personal experience with you on how car thieves succeeded in stealing my car mirror but ended up returning it later by themselves.

I will not share stories from other people with you (even though they have been confirmed to be true) since you're having difficulties believing my personal experiences.

I'm of the opinion that you have a mindset of not believing anything juju even in the face of overwhelming evidences. May be this position will change someday when you are opportuned to witness one.

phuck_NL:
Yes i do. I believe in God so i believe in the supernatural. I just find it hard to believe in a lot of nigerian "juju" since most of it has been "hearsay" so far.
My aunt and uncs, used to talk about people using "juju" to get visas and people dissappearing and i wondered why people would need visas if they had this strong "juju". why not dissappear and appear in "the land of the free" without getting a visa or using an airplane?
@phuck_nl

I used to have a colleague then who said his late uncle was into this "disappearing" juju thing whenever he was in any danger. Unfortunately, that colleague of mine is late now after being malhandled by some Airforce officers due to a minor traffic offence (may his soul rest in peace). Just like you, I argued with him then while he was alive because it sounds so imaginary to me. I still don't believe until perhaps someone demonstates it to me someday but I'm not going to conclude that it is imaginary either.

My paternal uncle (he's still very much alive) was at a social gathering some years back where palm-wine was served in glass cups by a particlar man from a jerry-can. As soon as my uncle lifted his hand to take his own glass of  palm-wine, the glass split into two and the content spilled. He kept his cool and just smiled. Immediately, the man that served the palm-wine went down on his kneels before my uncle in the presence of everyone begging for forgiveness. In his words, he was sent by some of my uncle's business associates to poison him.

Now, I know phuck_nl will be quick to say it was a mere coincidence that the glass got broken. But was it a co-incidence also that someome went down on his kneels immediately, confessing and asking for forgiveness at the same time? Or may be they were acting "home video".

I can recount several instances for you, but you are free to believe what you want to believe. Your unbelief will not in any way change the fact that juju is real.

tpia@:
Did split naija say he's in a relationship that requires him to go for pre marital counselling and he had juju in his car while doing so.

O ga oh.
@tpia

Yes I did and my belief system doesn't see anything wrong with that. The reasons are: -

1. I went for pre-marital counselling to learn ways to live happily with my wife and make my marriage a succsess
2. I had the juju in my car to prevent it from being stolen as that might result in some hardship and incoveniences for me if it happens

Any religious undertone to any of these steps (as you are insinuating) is irrelevant to me as I don't believe in organized religion in the first place. And If you clearly analyze the two reasons above, you will see that they are tailored primarily towards my personal well being. I therefore don't see anything wrong in taking steps to improve my personal well being or at least maintain the status quo, so long as such steps don't in any way impact negatively on my fellow human.

However, let me quickly add that this thread is not about me having juju in my car, it's about the concept of juju in its entirety being real or imaginary. Therefore, if you have any relevant contribution in that regard, kindly drop a line or two.

Nice discussion fellas. And also nice gentlemen, able to discuss with mutual respect and offer an apology should the need arise - a rare thing on NL. Kudos. A lot of this really comes down to ones personal experiences. What you've been opportuned to see vs not see.

P_NL, do you personally believe in the supernatural? just curious.

Split_N, do you think that some occurences attributed to the supernatural may have perfectly logical explanations?

I watched a documentary once on the Discovery Channel (i think) about Voodoo in Haiti. They captured some pretty incredible footage of people walking on hot coals, handling deadly snakes, eating metal objects, some contorting their bodies in very deformed positions etc etc stuff like that. They concluded by saying none of the events could be verified. I was certain some of it was BS, others were a little more tricky to write off as trickery.

My point. I believe there are things that I do not know, and cannot explain. Such that even as I am a scientist myself, I try not to write off any possibilities - especially if I wasn't there myself.
I sincerely do, but not until I get relevant logical explanations for such occurences, I'm usually not in a hurry to brand them as natural.

@Phuck_nl

While growing up as a kid, it was a common sight on Lagos streets to see "malams" (as we used to call them then) use very sharp knives, cutlasses and swords on themselves without getting any cuts. All they got was a whistling sound resulting from the running of the weapons on their bodies.

I'm yet to see any scientific explanation for that as well.
Christianity EtcRe: Is Juju Real - Debate Between Phuck_nl And Splitnaija by splitnaija(m): 5:36am On Nov 03, 2011
@Phuck_nl

Have u heard of "magun"? It's a spell cast on any promiscuous woman by her jealous/suspicious husband such that any man that sleeps with her other than her husband summersaults or crows like a rooster three times (depending on the version installed) and then gives up the ghost -very common among the Yorubas.

Is there a scientific explanation for that?

Christianity EtcRe: Is Juju Real - Debate Between Phuck_nl And Splitnaija by splitnaija(m): 10:40pm On Nov 02, 2011
Now, let me add another personal experience.

While I was preparing to get married, it was compulsory for my wife & I to attend pre-marital classes. After work on one of the designated days, I joined her. At the end of the class that night, I realized that one of the  side mirrors of my car that was parked within the church premises  had been stolen. I went straight to the catechist that was resiiding within the church to copmplain and I was unhappy the more when he showed me his car that was parked a few distance away from mine and narrated how he met it vandalized two nigjhts back within the same premises.

I was dejected not because of the stolen mirror, but because I had a type of juju in the car that was meant to render the car impossible for any mortal to steal. And I said to myself, this juju may have been fake afterall. I pondered on this for a very long time and I wondered if the mirror thieves  wouldnkt have succeeded if they had attempted stealing the entire car. This made me very worried and I made up my mind that I was goong to return the juju whenever I had the opportunity. We were attending this church every sunday after the marriage (just to please my wife as I don't believe in organized religion, though I believe in the existence of God).

Eight (cool months after, whie @ the same church, a young boy whom I later found out worked @ the Church's bookshop walked up to me with the stolen mirror and handed it over to me (the mirror had my plate number inscvribed so I was sure it was really mine). When I asked how he came about the mirror, he said a fight  ensued between two young men over the custody of the mirror the very night it was stolen  and @ the end of the fight, they both agreed to hand over the mirror to him for onward delivery back to the owner. He said he has beenwatching out for me ever since until he finally saw me the day he handed oit over to me.

I simply thanked him, collected the mirror and went my way.

Have you considered the fact that some of them might know you and hence you being lucky to be avoided? Or maybe they already have info about the area and know who or where they need to rob?
The set of tenants at the apartment at the time of the attack were the very first and we had equally lived around for approximately the same lenght of time. So, if they needed to avoid anybody, then the entire compound should have been avoided.

Mind you, I'm stressing on this robbery incident to buttress my argument that juju is real beacuse this is not heresy, it is something I have personally experienced.

Arosa:
Did you not have a security update in your house after the robbers came the first time, apart from the juju one.?
I don't understand your question

I lived in the neighbourhood peacefully for 6 years before the very first attack.

The robbers came the first time and could not locate a particulatr flat out of seven others within the same compound. This happened five consecutive times and on each occasion, they didn't come close to even tapping on my protector or window and phuck_NL is calling that a mere coincidence?
Christianity EtcRe: Is Juju Real - Debate Between Phuck_nl And Splitnaija by splitnaija(m): 4:08pm On Nov 02, 2011

i beg to differ. The juju that you claim prevented robbers from getting into your apartment was just a mere coincidence
How can you have a conincidence repeating itself 5 different times?

Pure BS.
We claim we are educated and cant seem to use our education at all in Nigeria.
They missed your house. It wasn't due to any yeye jazz.
@phuck_NL

It's obvious you're one of the millions who are still in doubt either due to over-affiliation to western culture that sees nothing good in the black man and his inventions or from brainwashing from some religious beliefs. I don't have any problem with that but let me enlighten you a little.

The whole essence of this black magic is that no matter the number of times the robbers come around, even when they are able to locate flat B that shares same roof with flat A (mine in this case) and separated by just a wall, they will never locate the way to flat A. Also, even after finding their ways to flats C and D that are directly opposite flat A, they will still miss their ways to flat A. And by the way, the said flat A is the very first flat you meet while coming into the compound. It's so conspicuously located that any visitor coming into the compund makes it a natural port of call for enquiries.

After the seeming success of this first gang of robbers to visit the estate, there were about 5 different attacks by some other less organized groups and still in all the other attempts, just like the very first one, they still could not locate flat A grin grin grin But I had to move out of the neighborhood as the trauma, coupled with the incessant fear of more attacks became unbearable sad

But let me ask you this question: Have you ever asked yourself why the kite is so quick to snatch a chicken but not a baby duck even when both are spotted in the open? That's some food for thought for you cool
CelebritiesRe: Pictures Of Baba Suwe In Court by splitnaija(m): 3:23am On Nov 02, 2011
The other day, some dare-devil robbers mumbering about 12 were busy robbing from flat to flat in my former neiighbourhood in an operation that lasted from 12:00 midnight till about 3:30a.m. All effort to get help from the Police was futile as we later learnt the entrance to the estate was barricaded and manned by some of the robbers. At the end of the oeration, 15 flats in 4 different compounds were visited and mine was the only one not attacked. There was not even a single knock on my protector -thanks to some African magic from my late grand mother (the more you look, the less you see).

If anyone is still in doubt about the efficacy of African magic, think again.

May be we should start destroying those kegs used at prayergrounds because most have been found to contain alcoholic content in the past.

Buy a good car first, preferablly a direct belgium that will only require oil change and minor repairs for the next 2 years or thereabout . Not Naija used.

And again, if you don't have money to at least fence a land immeditaley after buying, you will only be inviting trouble to yourself.
FamilyRe: Buying A Car Or A Piece Of Land Which Is Better For A New Couple by splitnaija(m): 1:40pm On Nov 01, 2011
My dear, get yourself and your family a good car, land will follow naturally later except you don't have a steady means of income. I was in a similar situation some years back, I went for a car and it really spared my family a lot of inconveniences. Today, I have a storey building, a bungalow, 2 undeveloped plots, 2 jeeps and several other assets. Just believe in yourself.

abegi stop saying what you are not sure of.
before a thief can steal your E.O.D they will sweat, except at gunpoint and u can bet with active security systems your car will not go far cos i ride one, but for CAMRY, its a regular thing.

Note: car owners flexing around with their keys opening their doors via remote, pls reduce it especially when you are in public places cos i heard there is a new device that high tech thieves use to capture the frequency of your remote key and later decode it and once decoded, i.e knowing the serial code of your car key its easy to program it on another key pls beware, open your door often by inserting your key into your door
Use steering or pedal lock along side the remote control knob, its a very effective deterrent to car thieves.

I learnt some cultists do spray or give money, eat foods, drink wiith glasses, etc. with their left hands so as to get some form of "protection".  Who knows what other things they are capable of achieving with their left hands? May be that's why some people resent being given things with left hands so as not to come under any evil spell.

That's African magic for you.
