Sorry for your loss. But government cant be used to clamp these ppl, they died with and from their faiths. So personal discretion covers it. The only option is to educate ppl on these matters
Thanks for your empathy. But If we look at it this way, it's like saying people are at liberty to commit suicide at their own discretion. I agree with your point on public enlightenment though, may be that is where government should come in.
Christianity EtcChurches Told Dying Patients They Were Cured by splitnaija(op): 7:53am On Nov 25, 2011
The rate at which inncocent people are being sent to their earlier graves by Churches is becoming alarming. I initially thought it was a Nigerian thing but was taken aback to read an article on how the virus has spread to the UK. Link:- http://uk.news.yahoo.com/churches-told-dying-patients-were-cured-034935993.html

I had a cousin who had sickle cell anaemia, he was able to manage the condition through drugs and medications from childhood to adulthood, bagging his first and second degrees and rose to become a topshot in one of the multinational beverage firms in Nigeria. However, in his late thirties, he was introduced to some pastors who claimed they could cure him of the condition and after some "spiritual" exercises that included fasting and abstaining from his medications for a certain period of time, he was told he had been cured and could do away with the medications. He believed them and stopped taking his drugs. It didn't take long for him to fall into a bout of crisis which unfortunately claimed his life.

Now, the question is should these churches be allowed to continue deluding people and sending them to their early graves? I believe in miracles but the type that these churches profess these days sound too good to be real.

PhonesRe: What Is The Matter With Glo (globacom) Network? by splitnaija(m): 8:02pm On Nov 24, 2011
Glo is really, really terrible these days and it's funny that this has been on for some months now without anything being done. You are not able to make calls as they won't connect and even when they manage to connect, you either would not hear the caller or the caller wouldn't hear you. It's really so frustrating.

And as if the frustration is not enough, you see Glo networlk using some non-conventional numbers like 547174760, 5471690777 in  sending very provocative and unsolicited sms from some faceless individual like "can I be your friend?", "if u see me, u will love me", "can we meet today?"etc,  Thank God for the understanding wife I have, otherwise, Glo would have landed me in big soup with her senseless text messages & calls angry Infact, I'm already contemplating throwing my Glo sim away undecided

Christianity EtcRe: Am Beginning To Lose Faith In Islam: Boko-haram Caused It by splitnaija(m): 2:06am On Nov 23, 2011
I don't have anything against moslems or islam per se but I just wonder what the attraction is in a religion where supposedly normal people shout "Allah wakbar" (whatever that means) while slaughtering, killing or maiming fellow humans. Perhaps, the shouting, more than anything else, put a seal on every moslem as a potential terrorist & vice versa; thus disprovimg islam as "a religion of peace".

good, this is how to be a good citizen. at least people reading this now know there are bogus glo cards out there and will be more careful. and if more publicity is generated on this issue to the extent that glo customers start avoiding glo cards as an interim measure, i'm sure glo as a firm will rise up to her responsibilty to humbly withdraw such cards from circulkation with an apology to the public for all inconveniences caused.

anonimi:
Have we also considered the relative percentage of 1st class from each university category?
The 62 out of over 8,000 Uniben graduates is 0.775% i.e. less than 1% of graduating students made 1st class. That does not look impressive to me.
What is teh percentage for private and state universities?
Good point.

We somehow create problems with our perception of first class degrees as being unattainable. That is why you see some lecturers sometimes not awardinfg 70% or above to any deserving student so as not to make it look that he/she is too generous with marks. For goodness sake, if you work hard for a first class degree, you will obtain it.

@ split - your assertion is baseless. what will u say to two lasu law student who graduated with 2.2 et 2.1 and made distinction last month @ the nig law sch ? i earlier posted that a dept friend whose left lasu with a g.p of 3.66 at the end of 100l and this guy is currently on 4.89 dept of accounting unilag. a lady also left my dept (accounting and finance) with 2.2 and she is current on 1st class in osun state univ.
Your points here simply corroborate my position -the stress in the state universities make for little or no time for proper academic exercises.

lasu law student who graduated with 2.2 et 2.1 and made distinction last month  -the enviroment at LASU wasn't conducive for them to aattain their full academic potentials while there, same goes for the guy who is currently on 4.89 at UNILAG. The story is different at the Law School and UNILAG (find out).

a lady also left my dept (accounting and finance) with 2.2 and she is current on 1st class in osun state univ. -this person must have learn from her 2.2 experience earlier, she probabaly now knows that the race starts from the very blast of the whistle and now is not taking chances at all.
EducationRe: 62 Graduates Bag First Class In UNIBEN by splitnaija(m): 10:04am On Nov 18, 2011
A first class in any University, whether state of Federal is a first class degree in the true sense of the word. The truth is that most students think that you start aiming at first class from 300L or 400L, the race actually starts from 100L -from your very first day in that institution as a student. You need to averge 70% and above in all your exams in the university to make a first class, how can you influence that with every lecturer you come in contact with if you don't work hard for it?
EducationRe: 62 Graduates Bag First Class In UNIBEN by splitnaija(m): 9:51am On Nov 18, 2011
luvola:
the question we are asking is WHY IS THAT IT IS EASIER TO MAKE FIRST CLASS IN PRIVATE AND FEDERAL UNIVERSITIES ,DOES THAT MEAN STATE UNIV STUDENTS AREN'T BRILLIANT ENOUGH ? DOES THAT MEAN PRIVATE UNIVs ARE BETTER THAN STATE UNIV. I HAVE NEVER SEEN A STATE UNIV CONVOCATING 62 FIRST CLASS. THESE ARE FACT WHICH EVERYONE KNOWS. THE FACT IS THAT STATE UNIVs IS MORE FUSTRATING THAN BOTH FEDERAL AND PRIVATE UNIVs
You have already answered your own question in the bolded.

The fact is that most state Universities are glorified Secondary Schools as they lack basic facilities to qualify to be called Universities. You see students in these Universities jostling for lecture halls, reading spaces, water, light, off-campus accomodation, transport to and fro campuses, etc, etc, as most don't even have decent accomodation in the first place. All these leave students with little or no time for serious academic exercises.

Also, the competition for admission into federal Universities naturally ensures that only the best are selected in most cases while the average ones end up in state universities as a last resort. This is evidence in the disparity in cut-off points between state and federal universities. This is not to say there are no students who make state unviversities their first choice for some personal reasons though but the fact is that that percentage is very low and again, that may also be responsible for the low rate of first class graduands from those schools.

I know of someone who, owing to poor academic performance, couldn't make it beyond 100L in Industrial Chemistry at UNIBEN during 1990/91 session. The same person somehow found his way into Ambrose Alli University and graduated with a degree in Engineering.

Nigerians are finally giving some room to  common sense and reason in their religious lives.

The truith is that more and more christians are now realizing the deception and tricks being used by these fake prophets to milk their followers dry and the first reaction that comes to mind is to stop going to church.

That malachi 3 passage they always allude to is a perfect alibi for advance fee fraud or 419 - bring whatever money you have now in return for a greater amount of money. And if you don't get the promised miraculous return on your "investment", you are told to bring more and more tithes & offering. And if eventually nothing happens as expected,  then u are branded a sinner or perhaps u didn't pray aright or you don't have faith.

It's really a win-win situation for all these religoius scammers.

@poster
Follow your mind, churches as we know them in Nigeria today are avenues for exploitation of the gullible.

I am a christian, i believe in GOD, talking of juju, it works, i remember way back in sec school, there are several ones we used when fighting, it is a ring, put it on and hit d other fellow with it, aluwo, ana sare or bante believe me it works & it kills, if u stays somewhere in bariga, you will know it's true.
now, this is where i have a problem with juju. why would anyone want to harm a fellow human? it's exactly the same way i don't know why some people would call themselves robbers and try to violently  dispossess innocent people  of things they laboured so hard for. but whether juju is real or not is undisputable. I still maintain that juju is real.
