FundRaiserNg: OP thank God you left with something. I had a similar experience years back in Opa Iweka market Onitsha. The first and last time I would visit Onitsha market alone to buy something, especially electronics.
Your only crime was that you went alone.
Next time, if ever go with someone who knows the market well.
When mine happened many years back I almost cried my eyes out because I had actually saved that money to buy a very good sound system, as it was called then. I didn't get anything close to what I went for and I was almost rubbed of the remaining money with me and declared a thief to be stoned and burned with tires. From just two boys that I met in the shop when I came they became 6 boys with me alone in the shop. They fought me and spoilt some things I had already bought before getting to their shop.
It was God that kept me alive and saved me from there hand.
It was a very traumatic experience I didn't forget in a hurry.
Kpele... Try to get over it and move on. Better things to come your way... Okay? Similar thing happened to me at Ariaria market in Aba.. I bought clothe materials worth 250k from one single shop and needed to pack it into a nylon...then into a sack.... Naso the owner Waka comot for shop and left me with some boys( unknown to them,I understood dia trade.....me when Dem born inside Lagos) After loading the materials I was billed 20k for the packing ( lol....I bought material from you...you out am inside Nylon and u want me to pay you ? Are you maddd ?) The owner came and now said I should find them 15,000 naira ( lol, nkita tapuo amu ghi dia) I didn't engage them oh.....jejely I took bike straight to police headquarters and lied to them that I came to buy goods and they hijacked my money and refused to give me goods..... ( I speak igbo,Hausa and Yoruba so I was just speaking to any officer in his language) Na van of police i use reach market..... Aswearugwwwwwd come and see confusion......dey never saw dat move.....the owner denied what happened.....and me I demanded my money!!!!!! I no buy agaaaaaaain! See drama..... .... Lastlast he paid to carry my goods straight to the luxurious park......he still gave police something..... He still bought maltina and okpa for me... Police can still be your friend! |

i went to Alaba international market to buy a set of Tokunbo Home Theatre. Luckily/ unfortunately for me i asked around and i was directed to a shop where i would find my choice. I got to the shop and i specifically told them I want a SAMSUNG Home Theater and the search began. They tested 3 diferrent sets but the last one got my attention and I asked for the price.
The seller (shop owner) told me it was 55k and i negotiated it to 25k and he asked me pay. I requested for his account details but he declined saying he doesn't take transfers. I quickly went to use POS, came back and asked for the SAMSUNG SETS i had priced be tested to avoid foul play. It was tested and i confirmed it. I paid, receipt was issued to me but without going through my receipt, I wrote my name and signed because i never suspected scam.
Now, it was time for me to leave with my purchases and the boy boy told me "the engine/DVD to the home theater i bought does not support or work with electricity but strictly works for only generator ". I asked him to repeat himself and he did. The statement didn't make sense to me. He then suggested he could swap the engine/DVD of the SAMSUNG Home Theater i bought for another one that uses electricity. I sensed foul play and asked him why he didn't tell me these before making payment.
Note: the owner of the shop had gone out when boy boy was telling me this. Luckily, he came back to meet us arguing. I narrated what his boy told me about the sound system they sold for me he affirmed to it that the engine/DVD doesn't use electricity. I got confused and demanded for a refund. These guys refused. Insisting I take another DVD...i refused either that i preferred what i bought. They refused me going with what I bought. This infuriated a lot of noise and here comes in an elderly man who claimed to be the landlord of the shop.
He asked me what was wrong, i told him and he slapped the Boy boy. At this point, i knew I was being scammed but was helpless as well. It was just only me against Alaba boys. The elderly man asked me to calm down that he was there to help me out bla bla bla and requested to see the receipt that was issued to me me. Lo and behold, the subwoofer and the other 3 small speakers was not included in the receipt. They only wrote the engine/DVD they claimed doesn't use nepa light and even boldly put NO WOOFER & NO SPEAKERS. (indirect or indirectly, i only paid 25k for just the DVD player )
The truth was, i never saw these errors before the arrival of the elderly man. he pointed out the errors and finally told me they don't refund money in ALABA that it was all a trick and the trick was for me to pay any amount cos the sound system i bought was more than 25k that i would have to add more money for me to go with it. I insisted i don't have more money to add and they insisted i take a Chinese product. I no gree.
To cut it short, i finally found out the elderly man was part of them. His job was to distract and calm their victim down. At the end of it all, i only got the subwoofer and 3 small speakers. The ENGINE/DVD was not given to me.
This was my sad experience today in the hands of some heartless Nigerians.

RighteousI: I posted a topic here earlier regarding why I believe guys should go for European girls rather than a Nigerian girl.
I stated that I believe believe European girls are more mannered, loving and less likely to cheat but some guys patriotically but wrongly criticized the post.
Unfortunately the guy that commited the murder-suicide in lekki didn't come to nairaland to read that post of mine and now he's dead after committing murder suicide.
So the question to the guys that criticized that post is: do you still prefer a Nigerian girl or do you now believe that the greatest sin of Nigerian girls is ungratefulness?
You treat them bad, they will still cheat on you
You treat them like princesses and plan to take them abroad, they will still cheat on you.
Why guys still marry, I don't know.
The girls have rebelled, you need not to marry. Where are we going to see European girls? |
Phones › Re: Why You Should Stop Using MTN Midnight Data by stanvesco(m): 1:26am On Jun 18, 2020 |
photon3106: MTN can be many things but this isn't one of them. I think the issue has to do with their system. Perhaps, some sort of system glitch.
I used to experience this too with my 1.5Gb monthly plan until I discovered where the problem was.
When your data connection is on and you went ahead to activate the Night plan, most times the night plan isn't active (swithed as the default plan).
All you need do is: after a successful activation of the night plan, disconeect your data and restart your phone. In the case when restart isn't desirable, a toggle on the Airplane mode will do. Wait for about 1 minute before turning on data. That's all.
This fixed it for me. As if you are working with MTN ABI? Don't let us use u to mop Nairaland floor oh.....respect yourself! Do you even use MTN? I know the shege MTN showed me until I recently swapped to Etisalat... Twice I have swapped; first to GLo and after I relocated and Glo was poor in my new area,I suffered again with MTN until I stumbled on Etisalat again.... With glo and Etisalat I had freedom of browsing,no fears, no checking data and I must say A BETTER SPEED.... |
Phones › Re: Why You Should Stop Using MTN Midnight Data by stanvesco(m): 12:59am On Jun 18, 2020 |
GeoAfrikana: I'm so angry right now. As you can see, I'm creating this post in the middle of the night.
There are many negative things people say about MTN. Sincerely, I've always given them an open mind but tonight I discovered something very terrible about them
Summary: When you subscribe for night data, MTN doesn't only deduct from your night data balance, they also deduct from your main balance.
Explanation For long I've been using the MTN pulse plan. I buy 1.5gig weekly. But because I usually need to download tutorials from YouTube I support my data with their 500mb midnight plan.
I've always noticed that my 1.5gig doesn't last long. Within five days (sometimes three days) my data would have finished.
I spend a lot of time online but there's no way my daily usage can reach 400mb. Most of my time online is on WhatsApp, searching google for information and staying up to data with industry gists on Twitter.
This night I subscribed to the MTN night plan, then used their app to check my balance before browsing. If you use the mtn night data regularly then you know there's no way to check your balance with USSD.
Luckily for me, the MTN app shows the night balance. So I was able to monitor both my main data balance and the midnight balance.
Guess what I found? MTN was deducting from both accounts simultaneously. No wonder, this is the snake that has been stealing eggs from my poultry. I was so angry that I wanted to remove the SIM but I decided to collect evidence before removing their SIM.
Below are two screenshots. I took the first before downloading a video from YouTube. The video is 48mb.
Then I took the second screenshot after the download had completed.
As you can see, MTN didn't even touch my night data again. They deducted virtually everything from my main balance.
This is so painful. I feel cheated. My brother, Just follow my steps and dump MTN.... I was using MTN 1500naira data like very week before and I dare not do any other thing except WhatsApp... I once did MTN 3500 for 20gb my bro,and I KID YOU NOT,(I could barely open fiverr.com) so I was only on WhatsApp and 10gb was wiped from it... Longstory short! I stumbled on an ETISALAT DATA SIM,and I subscribe for 7gb weekly for 1500naira *229*2*2# And the data rolls over....... Try and get an ETISALAT sim please... Thank me later |

I am the only child of my parents, they have spent so much on me just to make sure I become a doctor, dad had to sell one of his plots of land to pay for my registration fees, purchase a brand new laptop, a phone and clothes for me and all my needs, Mum who has no job since she was sacked by the state government will always try to send the little that will pass through her, when I think of the way she announced to her friends when I gained admission to study Medicine it brings tears from my eyes.
It will be an injustice on me to be blamed or for me to blame myself, I know the effort I have also made, I have always taken my studies serious, I never missed any lecture, I neither miss assignments nor tests, I sit at the front of the class, I don't keep bad gangs, I have never attended a party, sometimes I do RTDB (Read Till Day Break), what is then my offense? why me? .
