Khanben:
Thank you very much for this, my opinion is what is the difference between going 3-13 from 3 and 5-14 from long 2s and jump shots.
The Lakers lost the finals against the Pistons because Kobe got locked up in at least 3 games by just one guy in Prince, and he spent the whole time spamming difficult shot after difficult shot. His shooting percentage was so bad in those games that the Lakers couldn't win against an opponent known for their low scoring games.
Did anyone all of a sudden call Kobe a G-League player? NO.
I love AI and will always ride with him cause he was not only box office but he had heart, but lets not pretend as if he does not have one of the worst true shooting percentages in basketball history, but you know what, nobody called him a G-League player on the nights his shots were not falling.
Kobe walked into the league with a Prime Shaq as a teammate and it still took him 4 good years to win a chip. But somehow we expect today's players with a bunch of role players to do it in the same time or less.
This though. Man once averaged 38% for the entire season cheesy He could score 40 but would need 35 shots to do so. But hey, he was box office.

Jimmy has no business in that line. Dame should be evicted as well. KD dey probation.

No sight of Harden grin Even Kyrie

But Jimmy dey try o. He has always been a borderline superstar in this league. He just has never been able to push past that line.

I watch the Hawks often. This is flat out not true. Which one is assist to dunks again. If its such a good stat, they would not have been last to enter playoffs in the east, and get bounced by the Heat. Cmon you watched those games as well? Does that tally with what you saw against Heat? Did you have a Trae/Collins combo highlight reel?
Me I don't know what to answer you again o. That they were last means there were teams better than them.

Are you now judging them based on one playoff series in which they played the best team in the East? Did you watch Trae during the regular season?

When people want to make the argument about this era spamming threes, they look for the extreme. They don't mention guys like Ja Morant who led the league in points in the paint even though he's a 6ft3 point guard. If I ask them to name star players who attempt more threes than twos for the season they wouldn't be able to mention up to 5. Of which Steph is one of them. Let's talk about Steph. They don't have a problem with him spamming threes of course, because he's their guy. Steph is the king of spamming threes and yet we consider him a top 5 point guard of all time. Whether he makes a good number of them or not is not the issue, the issue is he spams threes. The Trae Young they say spams threes attempted 20 shots per game this season, 8 of which were from deep. Please where did the other 12 shots come from, my sitting room? And before you talk of efficiency, Trae shot better than Steph from deep this season (38.2% compared to 38%). Even the Dillon Brooks they want to use as an example of a guy that spams threes, only 29% of his 16 shot attempts this season were from deep. So I ask again, where did he shoot the other 71% from?

They call role wings/2 guards 3 and D guys for a reason. That's the way the game is played nowadays. You don't expect a role player to just hang around the midrange area and clog the space where the star players and the bigs operate. And moreover, it would be easier to guard them that way. This era utilises space on the court more than any other era. Back in the day you'd find 8-10 players scrambling for space inside the arc, and it usually was a gory sight. You may want to say that guys take ill-advised threes quite often, but taking an ill-advised three is not different from taking an ill-advised two. In the past we've seen guys rush twos when they had better options. I wonder if you'd feel better if a guy rushes a two instead of a three.

What is this game bikonu? grin If I watched the replays of this game on YouTube I'd think it was a game in the 90s cheesy Just gritty defense and physicality with no skills and set plays. This is what people mean when they say 90s era was better.
SportsRe: The NBA Begins by steady986(m): 3:42am On May 10, 2022
It's very true that the Grizzlies defend better without Ja.
SportsRe: The NBA Begins by steady986(m): 3:27am On May 10, 2022
Memphis going with what made them so successful in the regular season: Steven Adams at the 5. A big body to bang in the paint and get those rebounds. They haven't really outrebounded the Warriors this series, and that's a travesty knowing how small the Warriors play.
SportsRe: The NBA Begins by steady986(m): 2:55am On May 10, 2022
Series tied at 2-2. Isn't that what we all wanted? cheesy

birdman:
It doesnt apply to everybody. I am aware some people use the phrase as a way to down this generation of players. They are wrong - there are some flat out talented shooters in the league today. Better than anything we have ever seen.

But then, there are guys who are guilty of just shooting 3s and hope to get lucky and win a few. See atlanta hawks as a prime example. That is all they do, for real. The game doesnt even make sense at that point. Many times Trae doesnt even run a set. just chucks it - sometimes it goes in enough for them to try for a win. Other times, they just lose by double digits.
Come on. That's not entirely true. The Trae Young/Capela pick n roll is a thing. Trae is responsible for a huge chunk of Capela's buckets. The numbers are there for us to see.

Khanben:
Whenever I hear the spamming 3s comment, I just sometimes wonder what people mean. If a star player is taking only 3s I can very well understand how that can be an issue, because it is expected that the star players should be three level scorers. But for role players, people act as if in the OG days role players don't go 1-10 from the field.

I have never played competitive basketball, but those who have, say the corner 3 is the easiest shot in the game, with an open, set up shot also being in the top 5 easiest basketball shots.
So lets do the maths, if a role player shoots 45% from the field if we exclude the 3pts attempts(a % which is incredibly rare for a role player) and that same role player shots just 35% from open 3s, the fact is, it is better for the team if the role player takes mostly 3s.
People always omit the fact that the 3 main reasons, these role players have open looks at the 3 point line is because either the star big man was doubled at the rim and he kicks it out to his shooters, or the star wing had the defenders collapse on him as he drives to the basket and he then kicks it out for a 3, or from ball movement as a result of star player either passing out of a trap or probing and then kicking.
New age basketball defense no longer has that old school useless ego driven 1v1 defense for star players. They are either doubling, or sending help or trapping the star player all in an effort to take away the ball from them. This results in more open looks for role players, but history has shown that role players don't beat you 4 out of 7 game series, so coaches are willing to live with it.

PS: in game 4, the Mavs took 18% of the their shots from the corner
Quite elaborate. Well said

I have to agree with A40...This present game is more about spamming threes and it could be annoying...if it falls for you, your luck....I mean with all the skill set and talents in this generation...
Yes, they shoot more threes than previous eras. But are they all about spamming threes? Talk true. Do you watch a game of basketball today and all you see is people shooting threes?

When folks say this era doesn't permit enough physicality, it means they watch too much regular season. Cos playoffs physicality is something else.
