Music/Radio / Re: Ofokasibe Nairaland Murder The Beat Competition! nairaland hiphop stand up! by stkris(m): 6:05am On May 10, 2009
i'd really like to see this. . coz being a good lyricist or rather being able to write dope lines doesn't equal an ability to rap, so y'all NL netcess need to prove ur vocal skills. it aint bout da price or wateva, so dust ur old mic n kill it. cool

Travel / Re: Cheepest And Reliable Flight To Usa by stkris(m): 5:53am On May 06, 2009
try booking with british airways or KLM, depending on where you're headed for in the US. or since u'r a first time traveller, it might be easier to use DELTA airlines, since they fly direct to the US.

if you'r not savvy enough to book, the tickets on your own, try n get someone to do it for you, coz the travel agents hike the prices real high in naija. alternatively, you can browse the prices online first before visiting the travel agents coz they talk a lotta crap. good luck.
Education / Re: Pidgin in Secondary School, Is It Right? by stkris(m): 10:30pm On May 05, 2009
r u guyz serious? pidgin english is not n will never be a formal language. there's nothing unique about it, as it was born of an inability to speak good english. many nationalities speak broken english so wats indigenous bout it. I wonder y mediocres keep advocating for mediocrity all over the place. y don't u go to a job interview n speak freakin pidgin, let's see. I have nothing against pidgin coz I dey blow am on d regular, but teach these kids right n let them have quality options in speech, instead of trying to limit them to pidgin.

Culture / Re: Mother Tongue Or English At Home? by stkris(m): 5:21am On May 05, 2009
dayokanu:

Most Indians speak with an accent.

one of the greatest men in the world Nelson Mandela speaks with an accent so what is this thing about having an accent.

the emphasis isnt on having an accent. its bout being eloquent in english. everybody has an accent, but its only evident with location. so if a brit, chinese, nigerian etc come over to the US, i'll say he has an accent. n likewise they'l say i have an accent if i visit these places. the point is; theres nothing wrong in having an accent as far as it does not make it difficult for one to understand what d heck u'r saying. i dont think any one has ever found it difficult comprehending nelson mandela's speech.
Culture / Re: Mother Tongue Or English At Home? by stkris(m): 5:53am On May 04, 2009
having a sense of belonging and being true to your roots n origin is vital. . with that said;

i dont believe its compulsory to speak a native language to your kids as a primary language. in my opinion it should be at a ratio of 8:2 (english: native) . this way, they build a solid foundation in english and they still can communicate in the native language when neccesary.

lets face it; being proficient in your mother tongue is good, but definitely not at the expense of quality english skills. we need to see beyond our noses atimes. its a no-brainer for an employer to pick an eloquent candidate at an interview over a half-baked-english speaking one, even though they have equal qualifications.

always think in the context of the "world". truth be told, there are 1 too many nairalanders who will find it impossible to cope on a truly international forum, coz no one will take them seriously after consistent typing of gibberish, even after graduating college. Then when they find themselves abroad, they develop the hugest inferiority complex, owing to poor english. if thats not a handicap, tell me what is.

hiding under the cloak of patriotism, to justify the fact that you come off as semi illiterate isn't good enough, so save your kids from  feeling inferior in the future.
Travel / Re: 2010 DV Loottery: I Was Single, Now I'm Married by stkris(m): 9:23pm On May 01, 2009
congrats, there have been other people with similar issues, but its a tricky situation coz a lot of folks exploit the opportunity to claim a spouse n all. avoid those over here saying they can help you if u contact them. below is a link to a forum where nigerian DV winners have been discussing and helping each other out with information for a few years since 2006. you should find whatever answers u seek concerning the whole process from people there.

just patiently read through the latest thread for 'DV2009 winners from nigeria" before posting a question coz its all been discussed. good luck

Travel / Re: Will I Be Banned For Life From Entering United states of american by stkris(m): 7:27pm On Apr 25, 2009
as far as they still have your information; which they will. you stand little or no chances of getting a visa. even if you dont get banned for life, inconsistent info on something like date of birth is taken really serious and this brings up a trust issue; meaning anything u say to them sounds like a huge lie. with that, they'll never believe u intend to return or anything.

well, if you have absolutely nothing to loose in getting banned, you can try it. otherwise, try a longer route by relocating to the UK and it becomes easier for you to come over to the US. or apply for the DV lottery every year. good luck
Music/Radio / Re: I Think Mi Raps Like Lil Wayne! by stkris(m): 1:54am On Apr 23, 2009
hell yeah MI rhymes like weezy. someone needs to sieze all his llilwayne n jay-z cds coz da dude is starting to loose it. listen to "crowd mentality" and "safe" n u'll see d difference. da dude is dope, no doubt but he is loosing his originality.

i saw a pic of him throwing up da roc sign n i wondered what dat was about. n then i saw him on youtube at jimmy's jump off, where he said in the last few seconds. . "i'm jigga and weezy" . . that says it all.

before you ask that question, ask yourself what u have done for anyone recently in ur own capacity.

They'r all private, so the choice to give out or not lies with em. though i aint saying the private sector shouldnt give back to the people it thrives off of, but just give em a break.

MrCrackles:

How much do you need?

Say bye bye to credit crunch
!! cheesy

bro, all i need is a $750,000,000 BAILOUT!  embarassed

@topic
i'm more inclined towards making $1 out of 15 cents (investing) ,but since the question is bout "savings strategy" , i wont go into that. i dont know where u live, but one thing i've realised is; as far as you have instant access to savings, you'll dig into it. so what i do is send a certain amount of money every 2 weeks to my account in naija. why? i cant reach it when i want, so it stacks up.

and while this may not seem like a profound logic, its the best you'll get  cheesy
