Reyginus:Forget update. Focus your mind on "developing a website". Too many illiterates in government offices who use terms so irresponsibly. That is why we need to get a response from the ministry/minister. But for your information, websites can cost millions of dollars. I can't even imagine my firm's website being down for a week. It could lead to a global change. |
shadowgwalker:I hope I'm not as bad a Jonathan's diagnosis? That would be a disaster. |
Reyginus:The person I quoted already said same about his firm in the US. Really to answer your question, Yes it is possible. It only means it is at least $1m to get us over N200m. Again I say it is possible. Ask around some top Nigerian companies. Mine is a global firm, and I know that the website with all the resources available on it is worth millions of dollars. The minister still owes the public an explanation on how the estimate was attained. |
mrmetoo1:Many ICT illiterates abound in Nigeria. Some have opined that it's because we keep buying N200 pirated software in computer village. I have asserted that websites can cost tens of millions of Naira. I know many Nairaland illiterates will disagree. I'm sure my company's website cost millions of Dollars. However we need the minister to explain why so much should be spent on what type of website to result to what benefits. |
Ebukaobi:But Patrick Akpobolokemi was one of such changes. Instead, he turned out to be one of the millionaires and billionaires that Jonathan rightly said he helped produce. One thing Buhari need to do is to reform the political party and campaign funding laws. Many people are given ministry and parastatal appointments just to steal money for the party. There has to be strict laws being enforced on how parties raise funds for their campaign. PDP lost the presidency and by extension the federal government, suddenly the party has no more money to complete the building if its national secretariat. |
snailspeed:Is there anywhere I mentioned that a website or software should be acquired for such an amount? Kindly quote me saying so. |
danmasani101:Is that who you are? Thanks for introducing yourself. Now tell us something intelligent about the topic being discussed. |
Reyginus:I think the career civil servants in the presidency and budget office need to be changed. We have had a change of government in the past, now we also have a change of ruling party. Still some things seem to never change - the capacity to waste resources. I believe certain civil servants contribute to the looting that political offices commit. |
Ola17:OK! That's the spirit. The ball is now in the court of the minister. Fayemi needs to be bombarded the way Jonathan's ministers were kept on their toes by the media. Hopefully, Buhari unlike Jonathan, will not think it is a crime to sack his ministers and prosecute them when culpable in criminal acts. |
Reyginus:I have even now seen computer cost as N928m+. This is what I expected the "software update" to include. So it is obvious the N700m+ does not cover any ICT infrastructure. Someone has to be sacked for daring to type that without losing breath. We as Nigerians need to demand better from our leaders. The OP has done well to bring this to light. A lot of information always craftily hidden right in front of us. Times are really changing, only us can truly ensure that corruption dies. |
Reyginus:I am saying that "website update" could be a term for ICT infrastructure. Or is there any ICT cost in the budget for the ministry of solid minerals? I don't expect a website setup to go beyond tens of millions in naira. I know some will come here to say a website can be built for N200k. For those set of people, I know limited exposure is the cause of their ignorance. |
Ola17:Fashola's was also listed as "website update" but it turned out that to be more. From his explanation, the website was a repository of licensed software made available to the public with the cost already borne by the state government under the caption of "Website Update". None from the mob of critics came out to fault the claim or prove that the licensed software available on the website should have cost significantly less? I'm not an emotional critic or apologist. I hope if a plausible clarification is given subsequently on this outlandish amount for a website update, you would hurry here to acknowledge your error? |
Zoharariel:LOL! |
The budget matter has been handled like a 2penny document. Both the Executive and Legislature need to come up with an official position on the matter. Why is there a doctored budget with the NA if there is one? Is the president interested in amending the budget? If yes, was the previous budget not vetted before it was presented to the NA? Is anything stopping the president from formally withdrawing the budget if need be? How did the NA allow a budget that was not formally withdrawn to disappear from its auspices? This is cluelessness that I believe should have ended with Jonathan. I will be disappointed if Buhari staged a coup on his own budget. What is obvious is that someone is irresponsible either within the presidency or NA? |
The ministry and minister need to clarify why this amount should be spent on a website. Does the website mine gold? As an advice to all public officers, learn to clarify the details for every expenditure and not just a line statement. It is time to include an appendix to all entries so that people don't misconstrue legitimate estimates as overinflated cost for otherwise basic expenditure. |
How was it amended and when was it presented? |
Infact Nigeria never had power interruptions in the last 30yrs, then Fashola came and took it all away. OP, are you happy now? |
Akanbiedu:I suspect there is a foul play somewhere. Hopefully, time will tell. |
drss:Whether you like it or not, the world will remember the clueless GEJ and how he was such an irresponsible president concerning this matter. Ask Aisha Sesay or Malala Yousafzai what they remember about a certain Nigerian president called goodluck, the reply will be "Clueless and Irresponsible". |
The French call it a facade. |
I await the reply of the federal government on this alleged manipulation. Someone is up to something. It seems there is an agenda behind all these unnecessary prevarication between the presidency and legislature. |
Buhari must not fail where the fumbling Jonathan chose to fail. I don't believe that Islamic terrorists would just keep young virgin girls together without trying to have a taste of the 72 virgins that await them in their own heaven. They have been gifted as wives to the fighters - the very reason why such girls are kidnapped. What the government must do is to give an official report and conclusion on the matter. The parents need to know what happened to their lost children. Heaven and earth may pass away, but the whole world will always remember that Nigeria had a clueless and irresponsible president in Jonathan. |
I don’t know why white people are so foolish to the core. So she ignored all other cities in her own country and other countries in Africa only to land in Canada on asylum claims? Foolish white governments only end up admitting all sorts of potential troubles for their citizens to deal with in future. Same way a Yoruba Nigerian who was set to be deported from the UK laid claim to requiring asylum because of boko haram. One would begin to wonder if it's not the same Nigeria that we are all resident in. Are people not living in Southern Nigeria? Are UK nationals not working and residing in Nigeria? No wonder fraudsters deliberately seek out white victims. Lots of money in their possession, with an ample display of foolishness. |
gurnam:Exactly my opinion of them. They don't mind the disorder or chaos, Infact they thrive in it. Once a market begins to look too clean or organised, it is a turn off for them. Imagine some complaining that the new market will only accommodate 600 traders, while the chaotic refuse dump that was destroyed accommodated 2000 - 5000 traders. They are asking what the government want the remaining traders to do? It seems the Igbos among them have not heard of the land of the rising sun? They claim Lagos needs them and is at their mercy because of a phantom IGR percentage due to them. Now the Lagos government has decided that a spacious, neater market with lower shop units is the way to go, but they are now worried that they have no market available to them in Lagos. Why not leave the ungrateful Lagos and return to their homeland? Shakara don end. I have always maintained that no host nation is at the mercy of a certain tribe of immigrants. If the Mexicans will not tend to the gardens and housekeep for the Americans, the Cubans will. Yorubas should do what they need to do with their states, without regard to anyone. |
They commend their governors for sanitizing their states, irrespective that people would always be negatively affected by government policies. But they are a nuisance to the developmental strides of other states' government. The era of the Igbos posing a nuisance to the development agenda of Lagos state is over. Just one tribe serves as a nuisance to all. |
ProfessorPeter:I'm glad you used the word fix. So what should we as a people do to those who destroyed the country? Did a certain party not rule in the last 16yrs before Buhari? Is that same party the same one you expected the electorate to have voted for again? Is the Buhari regime not recovering looted funds and prosecuting corrupt officials who contributed to our economic woes? |
He would have invented his technology then? Irresponsible dunce! |
The greatest APC patriot has spoken. |

patrick89:I love quoting remarks such as this for future reference. Not too often you get to hear the humble words of supreme beings. |
The most hated tribe in the world by their own assertion of everyone envying them, yet no introspection has ever been done on their part to ascertain why. |
