For PhD stidents on funding, are they allowed to go with their family?
TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 22 by sudo1986: 9:36am On Dec 05, 2022
Please I want to ask a question:
If you have started your PhD program somewhere, and your supervisor resigned from the school, and you get another PhD program in Canada, can you write it in your SOP that you've started your PhD and you are moving because there is no one that can supervise your research?

What how can one go about it?
I have been in China since 2019, and my wife and son are in Nigeria.
I am going for my PhD in September and I wish to go with my wife, even if I can't go with my son for now.

How should I go about it?
Note: I am in China and my wife is in Nigeria. Is it possible to ask her to send her passport through courier to me? If our visa is granted and I send the passport to her, can she go from Nigeria and me going from here?

Please, I need your advice.

Thank you very much

It's advisable and not compulsory. This helps to prove your relationship with the individuals and strengthen your home ties if they are not going with you.

Birth certificate helps to prove they are related to you based on the details therein. You could use their valid IDs showing these information if you don't have their birth certificates.

Good luck

Is it compulsory I use my siblings pictures in my study permits application?

Is it compulsory to use their birth certificates?

Please I need answeres to these
TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 22 by sudo1986: 12:00pm On Nov 26, 2022
Thanks for this comprehensive response. However, Canada don't give admission to PhD students on self sponsorhip. By the way, the school said the admission letter provided by the department is enough to cater for funding letter. They said there is no need for any extra document to this effect. Meanwhile, the funding option is clearly stated by the school the total amount yearly.
I took a further step by requesting for a breakdown of all the expenses for the school per year. This is because I need to weigh my option. I can't be running to Canada when I am presently enjoying free money

So, the breakdown given to me cater for tuition and other fees plus 10k additional funding, making 19k.

In this case, I think if one can have an equivalent of 3000 CAD in account, that should be ok.

But there is something someone was discussing in the group that you need to show some other funding in your account that will show that your wife and child would be ok when you leave.

I am like, what is their business with this. This is not an undergraduate program. Are they expecting PhD student to self fund him or herself. That doesn't make any sense. PhD is a job on its own and they should expect the candidate to earn money to take care of his or her family.

Thats just my point.

uxomykaz:
1) For most people, the study route is a means to an end, coupled with the additional work of getting a supervisor and getting funded, it's not an easy feat.
PhD requires huge commitment that most people are not ready to commit to, except if they have interest in academia.

As a result, the number of people going for a research based program is fewer compared to those going to colleges and course based programs where admission can be easily obtained.

2)I have seen numerous Masters applicant with funding that covers tuition and living expenses. P.hD applicants are usually few ,but I'm sure most of their funding covers tuition and living expenses. Yearly funding for Ph.D is usually more than that for Master's in the same course.

3) If you are fully funded and it covers tuition and living expenses, you would need to provide a proof of this (through admission letter showing the amount of funding, a letter of support from your supervisor to the V.O stating the research you are coming to undertake in his/her lab, stating you would be in teaching assistantship/research assistantship, the amount of funding and that the funding would take care of your tuition and living expenses). With the above, I believe the POF you would need to show wouldn't be major, probably something to cater for flight ,miscellaneous and first month stay before receiving stipend.

If the funding doesn't cater fully for tuition and living expenses, it is expected you provide the offset in your POF.

4)I really don't know, But why would one want to undergo a P.hD that is not fully funded. It is baffling to me.
TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 22 by sudo1986: 3:29am On Nov 26, 2022
Guy, I have not seen anyone going for a PhD program at all. All I can see are Masters and Bachelors with huge amount of financial supports, including assets.

I have not seen any PhD applicant with funding that covers Tuition+10,000 CAD yearly.

How much should the person with this kind of funding provide to for the visa processing?

Apart from Mpower that provide loans to only Masters applicant, which other body provides loan to PhD students?

Thank you very much for your response, I really appreciate it. I dont know if there is any guide out there for the process. Though I have filled the form appropriately, but I thought there should be a guide out there that can show what to do at appropriate time, especially about the documents to upload.

Also, in IMM1294E, there is something like UCI, what should someone put there?

Furthermore, in the supporting documents, the following documents are losted....

- Passport (I understand that I am to upload all the pages in my international passport)
- General Education and Employment form
- Proof of means of Financial Support (does that mean I have to merge my statement of accounts with the funding provided by the school in a single PDF? We can only upload one file here.
- Digital Photo
- Family information ( Can I add the family photo, including wedding pictures, naming ceremony pictures, and all sort of useful pictures to this PDF before submitting?
- Letter of Acceptance from the school
- IMM5257
- Client Information ( Please what do I need to include here?)

Thank you very much for your responses once again.

bullstriker:
1. It will not affect your application if the 60 days to submit an online application elapse.
2. These are the IMM forms required to apply as a single applicant, assuming you are not using a representative or designating someone;
IMM1294, IMM5257b_1, IMM5645E.
3. I would advise you to attach them to your application's appropriate section and not just merge them to your SoP. I’m not sure if it is acceptable to embed documents as hyperlinks. So, I would advise you to attach copies instead.
TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 22 by sudo1986: 6:34am On Nov 24, 2022
Hello seniors, I have the following questions.

1. I created an account on IRCC on October 26, 2022, and as of today, the created application would expire in 31 days, that is, December 25. Meanwhile, I dont want to submit now until February, so that I can have some small change in my account. Though I am on full funding PhD program, yet, I want to have at least #1m in my personal account before using it for application. Would this affect my subsequent application if this expired?

2. I have the following forms; IMM0104E, IMM5257b_1, IMM5257E, IMM5645E. As a study permit applicant, which one do I need to submit and which one I shouldn't submit. Note that I am going alone for now.

3. Is it advisable to embed the following as hyperlinks to my SOP; My NIN, Marriage cert, wedding pictures, my son's NIN, Naming ceremony pictures of my son, my wife's NIN, high school cert, NCE cert, letter of introduction that my workplace gave to me in 2019 when applying to China, masters degree scholarship letter, my four scientific publications, ongoing PhD full scholarship letter (Note: I want to drop this scholarship after the coursework because my professor resigned. The main reason I am moving away), and the admission letter in Canada that shows my RA and TA funding. I am just curious if these things are sensible to embed in my SOP.

Thank you very much and I await your responses.

Could you help to review a study permit SOP sir?
I'll be expecting your response.

Frankrobbn1:
I learnt that you need my attention on your refused Application. Going by what you've done and plan to do in order to salvage the concerns of the visa officer. I will further advice you provide a property in your name and if possible get a real estate surveyor to value the property. This will considerably help your case and overcome the issues in your last application.

It will end in praise

Its like I am not ready for this Canada of a thing. This that people have a lot of money to show a proof of fund, and there is my brother relying on only 19,900 CAD PhD funding from his school.
Who will help with a proof of funding bayi?
TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 22 by sudo1986: 3:51pm On Nov 20, 2022
This is a big wahala mhen...... I will relay the thing to him sha......

Thanks for your time.

jaydave:
Maybe he should look for a sponsor .
Yes! those guys doing the pof tin charge d range of 3-3.5% .. so 150k for 5m is true .
But this parole works well for UK compared to Canada, UK doesnt really give a damn about lump sum amount but Canada does. Uk jus wanna see u maintain dat amount for 28days but that isn’t applicable for Canada . Unless he can use documents to explain the lump sum anyway, maybe to claim its return on xoxoxo investment or sales of xoxoxo property , but then he must back it up with proof
TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 22 by sudo1986: 2:04pm On Nov 20, 2022
I am not sure that any scholarship body or funding body pays before arrival. Your point is very valid. I have seen a reason he must get proof of fund.

In anyway, I just hope he can get an affordable proof of fund sha. What people are requesting for is too much for the proof of fund. Imaging paying #150k monthly for a POF of #5m. Thats ridiculously high.

Welsh2np:
To be on the safe side of IRCC, advice him to get extra POF.
...

...
speaking of which: the $19k funding he got would be paid to him AFTER he resumes, settles down and possibly opens a Canadian account. So let’s be realistic, how does he hope to cover the cost of flight, housing for the first few weeks and settling down allowances?

(I stand to be corrected on the kind of funding tho. Do they pay him his funding even BEFORE he arrives?)
TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 22 by sudo1986: 1:05pm On Nov 20, 2022
Thank you very much for your response. Actually the person is currently doing a PhD progeam in China, but needs to relocate because his supervisor just resigned.
The person has not been able to work anywhere, hence he doesnt have any proof of fund to show.
I think he said he contacted someone about all these POFs of a thing and that person asked him to pay #150k per month for #5m. The truth is that the guy can not afford such money monthly. This is why I askes the question on his behalf if it is compulsory to present statement of account.

What could you suggest in this situation?

Thank you

jaydave:
Your Tuition plus additional $10k Cad ,thats what is required by ircc atleast to be available on ur pof.. Even if d funding is enough to cover all d tuition and d additional 10k required, it makes sense if u can further show to the VO that without the funding or work in Canada , you will be good to go and financially ok to live in Canada during your study years
TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 22 by sudo1986: 9:36am On Nov 20, 2022
University of Victoria

By the way, which other expenses should be covered?

These are the expenses:

Tuition for each semester = $2,639.50
Athletics = $92.46
GSS Bus Pass = $81.00
Graduate Student Society = $95.25
GSS Dental Plan = $284.55
GSS Extended Health Plan = $409.00
Mandatory Medical Insurance = $265.00

Therefore, the person would pay the following for each term;
Fall Term = $3,866.76
Winter Term = $2,908.21
Summer Term = $2,908.21
Average for a year = $9,683.18

So, the person is left with $10,000+

Is there any other fee to show funding for?

jaydave:
What university biko ?
Yes , u would show statement for the remaining expenses the PhD funding didn’t cover
TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 22 by sudo1986: 4:10am On Nov 20, 2022
Hello guys, please I have a question.

A brother is going for a PhD program at one University in Canada.

He got a funding of $19,921 CAD.

He will pay the sum of $7k+ for tuition and $2k for all other expenses.
In short, all the school expenses including small small money is $9,800 CAD/year.

This implies that he would be left with $10k+ yearly.

The question is; does he still need to present a bank statement? If yes, how much?

Thank you very much.

The country is good for someone that has a backbone and can be sponsored.

Please who applied to the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign?
I can't hold the waiting again.

I was interviewed and was told that they will get back to me by the middle of March. Till now, nothing g has surfaced.

I contacted the program chair and he said they have mailed the admission letters through the US mail to those that are admitted.

My portal still shows AWAITING DECISION. Have you guys experienced this before?

Since the USA embassy only deals with PASSPORT (as identification means) and your NIN (As Passport collection means after Visa approval) and it has already been issued by immigration, it should not be a big deal. Funny enough, if you want to go through immigration again for maybe possible correction they would use more than weeks and you said you guys interview is forthcoming, not to risk it just go with it that way and try to get the courts’ affidavit to back Up. I think this way should/would do.

Good luck to you and your family, Ma!
Thanks so much. I just want to be sure of the best way. Whether to do another LGA cert and birth cert or I should just do only one affidavit to show that the names belong to only one person.

I guess the mistake is from his NIN, because that is what (NIN details) they use during Passport stuff. I remember I had to update my NIN (also name arrangements) before I could re-apply for my second passport (last year), I guess I want lucky enough to have be alert by them to do that before they proceed.

My son's name is AJIBODE Justin Paul

His birth certificate carries AJIBODE Justin Paul
Local government certificate carries AJIBODE Justin Paul

But

Good day everyone..
I am presently studying a masters degree in China and I am hoping to go for my PhD in the US.
Though I have applied but have not gotten any admissions.

I want to seek your opinion about some things. I have a wife and a son in Nigeria, which I hope to travel back to Nigeria and apply for visa with them.

But, I don't know if that make any sense or is it possible to process the US visa from China?

I am still in a dilemma situation because I don't know if it make any sense to go from here or I should go and process from Nigeria.

Does it also make any sense to go with my family or I should go alone?

If I get a funding that covers tuition and living expenses, do I need to present any other statement if account at the embassy for visa processing?

Please someone should orientate me.
