Yoruba1stson: They are foolish for defying the anti beef campaign, shame on them The “Anything But Cow Day Campaign” organiser are idiots. The campaign should be about Yoruba's investing in cattle ranches and increasing their food productivity. We need better leaders in the SW, leaders that are tactically aware and intelligence, what is the relevance of asking hard working Yoruba's to starve themselves and stop working. The campaign should be about identifying agriculture opportunities across Yoruba land that both Yoruba in the diaspora and at home can invest in. Nigerians in the diaspora are fed up with arrogance of Fulani's in the SW, when I got the Sunday Igboho link to purchase transport buses, I immediately donated £200 it might be a small contribution but my intention was to demonstrate my anger. I am now looking at agriculture investment opportunities in the SW especially in cattle ranching. Yoruba wake up! |

Charmingrascal: Nothing but the truth.
When I was a little boy I used to go Fulani settlements with my Dad sometimes we boarded canoes to take us across big rivers just to get to them. My Dad is an health worker and the Fulanis preferred his services so they were always calling him when there were sick people. (He did house service, my papa like money. Lol) and the Fulanis had money too, legitimate money made from selling their cows, grains and birds/chickens. Those dayd Fulani were nice people, I would always get maishan (very sweet butter/oil like stuff) and many other things, they were so nice and lovely people. As a young boy I always said I would marry a Fulani lady because they were so beautiful, friendly and nice people.
I am talking about 14 to 15 years ago.
What went wrong? F*ck!
Modified: I think those killer Fulanis that started terrorising Nigerians are not Nigerian and Buhari's failure to decisively deal with them led to the escalation of their killings and that also encouraged some Nigerian Fulanis to join them. Fulani groups that are suppose to condemn the killers were also being biased in their judgement, instead of fishing out the foreigners that are killing people among them, they decided to allow tribal sentiment overshadow their sense of reasoning.
If Miyetti Allah had chastised them instead of covering up for them things would not have escalated to this extent, also I will blame Buhari for not taking decisive action.
It is not too late Miyetti Allah should tell Nigerians among them not to join those foreigners in perpetrating crime, they should urge them to fish out the killers among them and the government should not be biased in handling this Fulani issue, Buhari or whoever is in charge of the affairs of the Nation should be decisive in dealing with these Intruders. I am sorry it's too late, the damage has been done. We no need to learn from it (When a man punishes you, subconsciously he is teaching you) You can never trust the Fulani's again, inviting foreigners to kill and humiliate Nigerians is bad enough, but to ignore their cry and defend the foreigner over your Nigerians brethren that your language and culture with is an indication that the Fulani's view all Nigerians as slave and conquered people. Hausa and Fulani share the same culture, yet the so called indigenous Fulani's have supported the foreign invasion of Hausa farmlands and gold mines, creating havoc and destruction across the entire West Africa landscape (from Senegal to CAR) As long as there is a Sokoto Caliphate in northern Nigeria there will never be unity or peace in Nigeria, the Sokoto Caliphate (or Sultanate) is a symbol of Fulani conquest. |
Politics › Katsina To Re-introduce Community, Cattle Tax System by sulaak(op): 1:04pm On Mar 05, 2021 |
Finally, after 65 years of Aminu Kano and Ahmadou Bello removing the colonial cattle tax in northern Nigeria. The current state government in Katsina has come to realise that with dwindling oil revenue and conflicts between the North and the South cattle tax is a good source of revenue and security control. As part of a renewed effort to create ways of revenue generation, the Katsina State government has concluded plans to re-introduce the community and cattle tax system.
Governor Aminu Bello Masari disclosed this when he received Barrister Umar Adamu, the chairman of Tax Appeal Tribunal of the Northwest zone and other members on a courtesy visit at the Government House Katsina on Thursday.
Masari said the state government had constituted a committee that visited all the 34 LGAs, held town hall meetings to sensitize the people and their respective views on the matter.
According to him, during the committee’s assignment, many people attributed that part of the current insecurity challenges could be as a result of improper data or record on ownership of cattle either by the people or the herders.
He also revealed that his administration is coming up with a reform to improve the activities of the state Board of Internal Revenue and other relevant agencies to ensure their viability for the benefit of the people and the state.
The governor noted that the existence of the tax appeal tribunal is quite important for both tax administrators and payers to creating awareness on the issue of taxation for economic growth.
He, therefore, stressed the need for adequate sensitization of the people on the activities of the tribunal to enable it to achieve the desired objective.
“The current revenue allocation formula from the federation account may not continue forever, hence the need for states to devise measures and alternative sources to stand on their feet,” he concluded.
In his remark, Barrister Adamu the chairman of Tax Appeal Tribunal of the Northwest zone commended the state government for its foresight and assured that proper sensitization exercise would be carried out for the benefit of the citizens and stakeholders to enable them to reap the benefits of the tribunal. https://tribuneonlineng.com/katsina-to-re-introduce-community-cattle-tax-system/

Nylonbag: Nonsense those experts should enter the bush and start farming,I think we should make an industrialized southern region rather than trying to go into farming that we are not good at The SW is the 5th largest cultivator of Cocoa and largest cultivator of Cassava in the world. Thailand generated $2 billion from exporting Cassava starch. The SW must stop producing agriculture graduate and start investing in security, farming and agro-processing. This is a wake up call that Nigeria has no future. Apart from Nigeria, other major tropical developing countries that produce cassava include Brazil, Thailand, Indonesia and Zaire. Nigeria's over 60,000 metric tons are almost totally processed and consumed locally. |

HacheNoire: Hello! I am not a Northerner and only using common reasoning to address issues. States government do lease lands to farmers at very subsidized rate in Nigeria. And if you research on how advanced countries go about ranching/farming, then it will be a more interesting debate. With the ration of one cattle to grazing land, its close to impossible for ranchers to buy the land. Do you think those 1000 acres ranch/ farms you hear about in the USA are owned by ranchers/farmers? If you do, you are very wrong.
Update yourself and get back. If the Nigerian government funds agriculture the way advanced countries do, likes of you will still make it look like tribalism cos Northerners are more into it.
Land can be provision with moderate taxes on users. that should not be a debate like we doing. Confine them and monitor them. Even more opportunities will be opened by this gesture.
Nigeria`s problem is ethno-religious differences, and not ranching. The moment citizens put that aside, development starts. No nation as grown divided. Every countries in the world has some kind of ethno-religious differences, but when you have a population explosion, deforestation, bandit and islamic insurgency then the etho-religious differences take another dimension. |

Iegendhero: Thank you Benue.
However, I don’t think the Yorubas should take offense with what the Northerners chose to do with their farm produce. I am also happy that you guys have stopped bringing food down south. Please keep the tempo.
Yorubas don’t need any retaliation of any sort, that’s a lazy way of thinking. No need of blockading any petrol tankers or etc from getting to the North, that’s a lazy approach.
Sensible thinking Yorubas should now start investing in farming. It’s not necessarily we all waste time with conventional farming, there are other farming methods that can be employed with bigger yield and more control mechanism that can aid the supply of both foods and proteins.
Most of the basic source of food is grown in the SW. we have cassava, poultry, fishes, yams, and etc that can feed the population for the time being until we can match the tomatoes, beans, and other grains from the North side.
Even if it gets worse, we can import all these stuffs and I’m sure there will be little the customs controlled by the FG can do at the Western borders. Trust me when civil disobedience happens, the FG will be helpless, but that is the last resort honestly. Well said , I am now looking at investing in farming scheme in the SW especially in animal husbandry , imagine the returns from a cattle ranch , supplying diary products and meat. This blockade is a blessing. |

DO THE MATHS Behind the hype, is Dangote’s refinery a game changer? Posted on Friday, 10 January 2020 16:07, updated on Tuesday, 14 January 2020 12:02
Is the refinery a cure-all? To understand why Dangote’s Refinery may not deliver the hoped for structural changes, we must first run through the basic figures that tell the story of Nigeria’s trade balance and its internal petroleum consumption:
According to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), the country’s daily petrol consumption comes to 51 million litres. Using the standard measure of 47% petroleum motor spirit (PMS) per 159-litre barrel of crude oil according to the U.S. Department of Energy,
This means that Dangote’s Refinery must process about 471,500bpd to satisfy Nigeria’s internal demand. What happens to export earnings?
The problem is that if the feedstock for Dangote’s refinery comes from local oil production, as the chief of the state oil company has promised, then it will eat into Nigeria’s export cargoes and revenues.
Nigeria’s 2019 crude oil production averaged 2,037 million barrels a day (b/d)
The 2019 average international crude oil price was $64 per barrel. If the refinery satisfies Nigeria’s internal demand, it would save over $8.7bn. That’s how much the country spent on fuel imports in 2017.
That sounds great, but what about the opportunity cost? By allocating over 470,000 b/d of locally-produced crude oil to the refinery, the state oil company is losing about $11bn of forex earnings a year. That’s almost a quarter of the country’s current forex earnings. Nigeria would be losing $11bn to save $8.7bn.

The south does not own oil, the federal government owns the oil unlike the food, hardworking Northern farmers are the owner under a cooperative system, the cooperative can decide to transport their produce somewhere else and it wont affect their pocket.
There are lot of buyers of farm produce from northern Cameroon, senegal, mali, niger and chad. The revenue they make from these markets alone is more than the revenue from the southern market in Nigeria Then sell it to those markets in West Africa, the South can also buy foodstuffs from other West African regions as well as producing all it foods corps. |
