These OAU people should keep quiet. Where were they when Modakeke people killed their students during Ife/Modakeke war? You can never win any war with an indigene. The tales abound all over Nigeria. I attended UI, so I do not know how staying off campus life is. As a student, just face your books and graduate into the larger society that does not recognise all those your aluta jargons. Also note that people of 16/17 are in private schools graduating by age 20 nowadays and organisations will rather employ those dummies than you that spent donkey years in school. In as much as killing of the Uniport students was barbaric and savagery in all ways, the mission of the 4 students calls for more questions than answers. Even UNIPORT students knew who these boys were in school, they only met their waterloo or fate or woreva. To all you girls shouting because they are fine boys, pick the learning points ie know what your fine boy boyfriend is actually doing -- be it cultism/yahoo plus or robbery. i rest my case

Dogs are extremely loyal. We have had a german sherpherd that walks me to school and come to stay at my school gate by 2pm sharp to walk me home. We had another that was so extremely intelligent. Politics › Aregbesola Systematically Sharialising Osun State by superstar1(op): 8:29pm On Aug 27, 2012
This is not propaganda to discredit the govt of ogbeni rauf aregbesola but what is wrong is wrong. Ogbeni Aregbesola in his novel and credible initiative created anti- crime squad in Osun State known as Swift Respond Squad comprising of Soldiers, Mobile Policemen, Civil Defence, Vigilante and even the state owned Sheriff. The team was purpotedly created to tackle armed robbery, kidnapping and other crimes. Alas the public was never informed that beating up ladies in the name of dressing indecently was part of their purpose of creation. They have been beating ladies up on the street indiscriminately and going to the extent of stripping ladies naked. It is so sad that some idiots and political bigots are going around hailing this as an achievement in this modern day and stage of development. Everybody, whether male or female, has the right to express his or her identity the way he or she likes. This is a wanton infringement on women's right and a systematic sharialisation of Osun State. Ogbeni should call his SAS people to order, can they even try that in Lagos where Ogbeni himself is coming from. This is a time bomb that we must all rise up to and challenge. If any lady dress anyhow, if you cannot watch free film, take your eyes off it. Stop using SAS to oppress people. We have not even started State Police Force, they are doing this, if they finally come into existence, they will definately become teh militia armies of politician. If he succeeds with this, the next thing will be, all male citizen of Osun must have long beards like earlymen, and the next will be you must all wear white on Mondays. SAS should concentrate on catching of thieves, robbers and kidnappers and not molesting innocent defenceless girls.

At times I wonder the level of tribalism and ethnicity running in our veins. Someone wrote a nice write up from his observation and perspectiive, it should be respected and not allowed to denegerate into ethnic and tribal abuses again. How are we better than the stupid leaders we all sit down to abuse in our sitting rooms. Every race, tribe, ethnic group, nationality and religion have their good and bad spots. As tolerant as we yorubas are we have dark spots, as hardworking and entrepreneural oriented Ibos are they are not perfect, as simple as Hausa/fulanis can take life, they are not angels. Likewise the religious lines. No matter what we say, we all have one or two youruba/ibo/hausa/ijaw/other ethnicities or muslim/xtian/traditional worshippers as colleagues or even friends. Most people that cannot respect others people's view or beliefs about life we find it extrememly difficult in fitting into a mutli cultural organisation. Social discuss like this are for learning and not to keep entrenching the divides between us. If you have any perspective that differs from the writers point of view, put it into a coherent and logical discuss like that of the writers observation and not to be making next to insanity comments.

let us face the reality. we are africans and not oyinbos. the male child is needed for continuation of family name. no man, i repeat, no man will ever want his name to go into extinction. if you have 7 females and he is telling you not to be worried, watch your back. that is the bitter truth and is the reality of our culture and society. it does not mean female children are less of a child but continuation of lineage is extremmely important too.

Crisis looms in Osun over hijab

There seems to be a pending crisis over the resolve of the Muslim community in Osun State  to enforce the use of hijab in public schools.

The Muslims are insisting that it is their right to use the hijab, because it is for the edification of Muslim girls, but the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has vowed to resist the move.

Addressing  newsmen in Osogbo,  the president-general of Osun State Muslim  Community, Sheikh Salaudeen Olayiwola, said  that  section 38 of  the 1999 Constitution provided for freedom of religion, just as  he insisted that it was the right of Muslim ladies to use hijab.

“Indeed, the hijab, niqab or burqa being part and parcel of Islamic mode of dressing  and by whatever standard a dignified and vividly decent one, cannot be taken away by any other law other than the constitution,”he noted.

Sheikh Olayiwola said that they were not fighting the Christian community because they had a meeting point, the Nigeria Inter Religion Committee (NIREC), where issues that affect the two bodies are discussed.

Reacting to the plan  to enforce the use of hijab in public schools in a telephone chat, the state chairman of CAN, Superior Evangelist Abraham Aladeseye, said the Muslims were only looking for an avenue to foment trouble adding that they would not be allowed to carry out their intention.

He said their action contravened  government’s directive , which banned the use of hijab in non Muslim schools.

Hijab: Osun Govt Asks For Memo

OSUN State government has directed the heads of public schools  owned by Christians and Muslims  in Iwo Local Government Area of the state to submit  memoranda on their position on the use of hijab in schools owned by them .

The decision was taken after a deadlocked meeting held with leaders of the religious bodies at Iwo Local Government secretariat.

The leaders of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) insisted that  they had an agreement with the state government  that they shall regulate activities of schools owned by them  and that they would not allow any female student to use hijab in any of their schools.

The muslim leaders also insisted that since they have control over schools owned by them, they also will compel Christian students that attend such schools  to use hijab in line with their belief .

Inability to reach a compromise between the two religious bodies therefore forced the state government  to take the decision  that they should  put their position in form of a memorandum and submit it to the state government while a white paper will be issue by the government after  considering the position of the two bodies.

Some of u these myopic Moslems should take it easy.

1. What were ur Moslem cleric looking at when Christians were establishing schools.

2. Are u trying to tell me that ur religion supersedes the law of the land.

3. You are all claiming civility even the fools contributing from UK, what happened to changing the dress cod we through civil means, making presentation to govt so that it will be part and parcel of govt policy instead of carrying sticks and stones. Before u know they will soon start putting bombs under their uniform and they will be claiming it is their right to wear bomb and kill infidels.

4. It is some stupid and daft comments of some of u on the net that we always make people look at u guys as very violent set of people.

5. Sincerely if it is allowed I will get a child I will put a palm frond on and cowry shells, I will now see the great grand father of who will pursue the child from school. So all these your arguement of taxpayers nonsense will now be raised. For your information, do you know that here is If a primary school in that same Osun state now and they will soon establish a secondary school, if you guys have the gut, take your child to the If a school and be yarning your dust.

5. Who is giving the cajole stats of 90% Moslems and 10% Christians in Iwo. Don't deceive yourself. You have all christians schools doubling all the Moslems schools in the town and you guys are not ashamed of urself, the Christians as 10% as they are, they still have. A. University, what is ur 90% population looking at.

I have utmost respect for my Moslem friends because they are not myopic like some of u on this thread. Issues are meant to bediscused objectively and not on religious sentiment basis.mscheeeeeew

@gidimonsta

See things beyond religion bros. I'm a native of the same iwo you are talking about, so we are on the same page. Kindly answer the following questions objectively:

1. What is the dress code by ministry of education for students in public schools.

2. Must a student force her will or of you want to call it tenets of her religion on the school.

3. Dissuade your mind from Christian and Muslim dichotomy, how will it be, if an if a worshipping child says it is part of her religion to be wearing pal fronds to school or cowries on her head and both of u, I mean Christians and Moslems must respect her right too OR a sango worshipping child insist that ok Christians are praying on Monday, while Moslems pray on Fridays, he too must pray on Wednesday on the assembly.

In as much as we keep seeing christianity and Islam n this case, we will not see beyond our nose. Just imagine all those children of those traditional religions demanding their rights of wearing what is not stated in the dress code as stipulated by min of education to school, how it will be. The same right that the girl has to bewearinghijab to school iisthe same right the traditional religion worshipping child has to do and undo, because her father and mother are tax payers too and his or her right must be respected too.

I repeat my advice to all of us, take your to where your religion tenets n dres code is being adhered without ant hindrance . A pressure group should also be formed to make govt include hijab, scarf, sutana, pal fronds, cowries etc as part of dress code to school. Inas mush as the change as not be done, the min of education policy on dress code as at today still stand. That is my humble submission. If you have any superior and objective argument, I will be more than glad to have your view.
Education › Re: Schools Shut Down In Osun Over Hijab by superstar1(m): 12:07pm On Nov 18, 2011
This is a time bomb and if not properly managed,it will divide us further apart in this country.

The fact is that all public schools in Osun state are owned by government and the policies of such schools is being determined by the Ministry of Education I believe. Therefore there would be a standard dress code as stipulated in the policy of the ministry. If the policy says it is pinafore and shirt or skirt and shirt, and scarf or hijab are not included in the policy, I strongly believe such student is contravening the policy of the govt no matter the religion. The best the Muslim community can do is to get the govt to change the policy by including scarfs hijabs as part of the dress code in public schools because of their wards and believes. Accepting such dressings such as hijab without changing the policy is adding to the policy unofficially and which is wrong.

This is where the problem lies, if Such Muslim students are given such rights, the if a child also has the right to put palm fronds on it's head to school, the masquerade worshiping child also has the right to say u must respect my belief and every Wednesday I will be putting on my masquerade uniform to school and santo worshipping child can even be putting cowries on his or her uniform to school. How will our bastardised public school now look like.

I strongly believe, Muslims should take their children to AUD grammar schools, NUD High School, Muslim Community Secondary School etc and leave the all the Saints and Methodist and catholic and anglicans and baptist schools for the croaks and the children that will not add or subtract to govt policy.

@ stagger

I have been transfering from the same bank for a while now. I even transfer from the comfort of my home via gtbank's reliable internet banking platform. theri charges are very straight forward.

if you are transfering below usd/gbp/euro1,00 you will be charged 10.00 of that currency and 0.5 as VAT making 10.5 of the currency in question and N3,00 for telex confirmation charges. If you are transferring above usd/gbp/euro1,000 you will be charged 1% of the value of the transaction plus VAT (compulsory FGN tax) and telex charges of N3000.

it is left to you to decide whether you want to pay for the corresponding bank charges (offshore charges) which is usd25 and its equivalents in other currencies. if your fund has to pass through intermediary banks, that is there is a or some banks that your fund will have to pass through before getting to the beneficiary's bank, they will also make their charges which is usally usd25 or its equivalents in other currencies too.

if you are receiving inflow from abroad, the exact amount will hit your account with them in Nigeria ie gtbank but you will be jharged 1% of the inflow at the point of withdrawal. if your fund passes through intermediary banks before getting to Nigeria, the intermediary banks will charge accordingly.

i have tried all the banks, in my own opinion, gtbank is still the best in funds transfer when you talk of efficiency and even charges wise
Business › Re: Segun Agbaje's Performance As Guarantee Trust Bank (GTB) MD by superstar1(m): 6:34pm On Sep 25, 2011
people are so funny, they want services and they do not want to pay for the services. Banks and other financial institutions deal in services, therefore customers are meant to pay for the services they are rendering cos they are not NGOs. If you are not satisfied with the charge of a bank, move on to teh next one that might charge you less and maybe and maybe not, it will take them ages to deliver the service you sought after.

where you have every right to complain is when you are charged and services are not being delivered according to the pre-arranged agreement. we should stop this mentality of bank A is charging me, bank B is charging me for that, let us realise and let it be well registered on our minds that services are meant to be paid for because it is coming at a cost.

Business › Bank Phb Afribank And Springbank Nationalised by superstar1(op): 8:12pm On Aug 05, 2011
ABUJA, Nigeria — Nigerian financial regulators nationalized three banks Friday night in the course of an ever-widening probe of corruption allegations and mismanagement of fiscal institutions in the oil-rich nation.

Authorities took over Afribank PLC, Bank PHB and Spring Bank PLC after markets closed in Africa’s most populous nation, quickly renaming the institutions Mainstreet Bank Ltd., Keystone Bank Ltd. and Enterprise Bank Ltd., the country’s finance ministry said. The move comes two years after the nation’s central bank injected $2.55 billion into the troubled banking industry and some former CEOs now face allegations of stealing depositors’ money.

This “represents an important milestone in the process of stabilizing the banks and enables these banks to move forward with a more certain future and bring to closure the banking crisis that started in 2008 in Nigeria,” Finance Minister Yerima Ngama said in a statement.

Nigeria’s central bank also issued a statement promising depositors their money would be safe and that interbank obligations would be covered through Dec. 31.

A top exporter of crude oil to the U.S., Nigeria is also considered to be West Africa’s banking center.

But central banker Sanusi Lamido Sanusi fired five top banking CEOs amid the 2009 bailout, blaming the crisis on poor decisions that led the firms into “technical insolvency.” Analysts later said the crisis grew out of lax regulation of financial institutions in Nigeria, leaving ample room for banks to cook their books.

The financial crisis ultimately affected nine of Nigeria’s 24 banks.

Anti-corruption officials later arrested and charged some former CEOs with stealing depositors’ funds, including former Afribank CEO Sebastian Adigwe. Former Bank PHB PLC chief Francis Atuche also faces fraud charges.

The whole story is crap and is turning Saharareporters to comedians

We have been made to realise that that there is a valid contract between Obasanjo Farms and delta State Govt. are we saying Obasanjo Farms doen not have the legal right to enter into contracts with state govt just because it is owned by OBJ. I do not think that is fair. In as much as the Coy will execute the project in question and perform a quality job, it has every right to enter into contracts with whosoever.

The second cheque clearly showed that the state govt was not paying anybody, they were just moving money from faac account into call account which is like a fixed deposit. maybe they do not want to leave idle funds lying fallow without yielding anything for the govt. and it might also be a means of govt officials placing the money in call account and later sharing the interest.

professionally, the branch of Oceanic Bank that got these cheques out should be investigated cos these are meant to be confidential information. It actually shows the level of indiscipline and unprofessionalism in such a branch.

Sahara Reporters should realise that more is expected of them profesionally. I have stopped believing 98% of their stories cos they do not take theit time to do investigative journalism.
