What you need to consider is this. Mechanical Engineers are more sought after than any Engineers in the worlds. They are found anywhere machines are required.
They are found in the automobile industry, marine, Electrical, aeronautics, Refrigeration and air conditioning even medicine, who do you think design, and build artificial hearts and some of those equipment you use in hospitals. You can easily switch to any sector, unlike Petroleum that is limited to the Petroleum sector. You can also switch to a more rewarding job in any sector.
