So you didnt know that it was a joint project of d FG and State Govts, approvd by FEC and Governor's Forum respectively, yet open yr mouth to mk Assertions? Just how you stated matter-of-factly in dat comment, that d tour was not inspecting FED projects but 'accessing' State projects. Politics › Re: Good Governance Tour Ill-conceived – Fashola by taharqa: 9:14pm On Feb 26, 2013
mikeansy: I think your missing the point. Fashola was touring Lagos to inspect Projects executed by the State Government, Labaran Maku is not inspecting Projects executed by the Federal Government. In fact Labaran Maku does not have the legal right to assess State Governors. He Maku as information Minister has his own responsiblities which has not been fully completed and the last time I checked the remit of his office is not to be an ombudsman for State Governors.

Labaran Maku clearly mis-understands his job description and this is a clear example of a Government that lacks focus.

Its up to the citizens of the individual States to judge their Governors and reflect their will in the next election. If However there is a clear case of corruption by any State Governor then the Governor can be impeached by State House of Assembly or EFCC can move on him. I really dont know where this Good Governance Excersize was plucked from!!!
Come on keep that yr mouth SHUT there. I hate HYPOCRISM. Who told you that Maku is accessing State Govts and not inspecting Federal Govts; majority of d Projects seen are Federal projects. Moreova, dis tour was a joint unanimous decision by d Federal and State Govts (rep by d Govs forum); but sm Govs cos of need to scoring cheap political points are backing out at d middle of d programme they all agreed on. Imagine Fashola that almost ALWAYS engage on Media tour of his projects, and uses a lot of Media propaganda, now saying that 'Govts do not hv to go on tour to show their projects'. Imagine that!... Anyways, d Tour would go on; how wud I hv known of the very many oda tins d FG was doing in Edo State than I presentd on my recent thread here (how wud I hv known that d notorious Esan Waterworks that hv bn a terrible project since b4 independence, has bn virtuali completed).

By d way, to be fair to State Govts, many Primary and Secondary Skuls are now significantly better than say last 6 or so yrs. Even ordinarily almost 'useless' Govts like Delta, are significantly improving their skuls. What Edo has done for instance, is simply astonishing. Much More is certainly needed though to clear the MESS that it was (still is, in sm areas); as well as real fundamental changes like those to d LGA System, as @yzlanti suggestd
Politics › Re: Pupils In Enugu Study On Bare-Floor, Leaking Roof by taharqa: 5:52pm On Feb 25, 2013
ypzilanti: LGA monies are shared with Governors in Nigeria. The LGA's basically just get salary payment money for staff at the LGA office. These are the things that should be changed in the constitution. Governors should not have any access to LGA funds. Local health care facilities and primary schools should be funded by LGAs.
Exactly!! Or, the burden of running these Primary Skuls and health centres be removd from them (esp d payment of teachers in those Skuls), Period.

Politics › Re: Why the Double Standard to judge Between Gej And Buhari? by taharqa:
take dat: You cannot compare a sitting president who is expected to display a high level of moral integrity to an ordinary citizen whose failings can easily be ignored. The position of a president entails him to display a certain amount of fairness and consistency, it means that he does not change his views and perception due to capricious reasons. How do we appraise a sitting president who cannot be taking at his word? Buhari is an ordinary citizen, him changing his mind can be overlooked, but for a sitting president to be fickle and also displaying chameleon-like trait in his personality is a No-No!
WONDAFUL!!! So you wud hold a person to an allegd 'promise' that someone said he made, ie one you are not sure of- unda the guise that he is President; whereas, you wud completely absolve anoda person of the possibility of reneging on a Promise/vow he made by himself on live TV- unda the guise that he is a Private citizen, even though a Private citizen who wants to be President.. I hardly comment on Real politics on NL, but dis is just Wondaful indeed..

Sincere 9gerian: So if GEJ fails to complete the second Niger Bridge by 2019 and another govt comes and completes it, I will now give credit to GEJ rather than the new govt that saw the importance of the project and quickly completed it?
A beg park well joor!

To be frant with you, I'm celebrating this award of Second Niger Bridge to Julius Berger because of the person (GEJ) that awarded it. He has shown consistency in keeping to his promise or contracts. If it were in the past, I wouldn't make any comment until the bridge is completed. In Nigeria, awarding of contracts is the EASIEST thing to do as a govt official. The HARDEST thing is release of money and project execution.
GBAM!!! This is just it....... In just a year, GEJ has completed about 66 Model Day/Boarding Almajiri schools out of about 104 bn built mostly in the north - I REPEAT, in a single year (whereas, every single previous Govt has been promising to take care of d Almajiri issue and hv all FAILED- even former northern leadas!!). Yet, GEJ does it in a year. GEJ is also building 15 Model Girl's Schools and 72 Libraries in all Federal Unity Schools in Nigeria (some of which are already complete); he has also already built 9 NEW Universities (3 more have now been added and are bn built also) whilst markly increasing funding for Existing ones, esp tru TETFUND.... Moral: Things are NOW GRADUALLY been done when promised and are picking up, unlike previously when all we were hearing were mostly promises.

karl max: Army engineers begin work on police college

FEBRUARY 23, 2013 BY KUNLE FALAYI 1 COMMENT
Extensive renovation work has begun at the Police College, Ikeja, Lagos.

This puts to rest fears that President Goodluck Jonathan’s promise of action on the decrepit accommodation facilities in the college might take a long time to come to fruition.

Jonathan visited the college on January 18 and expressed surprise at the appalling state of the hostels.

He was, however, unhappy about a television report, which revealed the state of the institution.

Even though the President had promised immediate action on the college, some police cadets, who spoke with our correspondent one week after Jonathan’s visit, had said they doubted if the renovation would start any time soon.

But on Wednesday, when our correspondent visited the college, he counted about 15 hostel blocks being renovated simultaneously.

The old roofs, windows and doors of all the buildings have been dismantled and were being replaced by aluminium roofing sheets and sliding windows.

It was learnt that the renovation is being handled by the Nigerian Army Corps of Engineers.

The joy of the policemen and cadets in the college was obvious as some of them told our correspondent that the renovation would greatly enhance their wellbeing.

“We knew the hostels would be renovated but we just did not expect it to be this soon. It is a good thing anyway because we can now be proud of the college in which we are receiving training,” a cadet, who pleaded anonymity, said.

A policeman, who told our correspondent that he was previously staying in one of the buildings being renovated, explained that the windows of his own block had been fitted.

“I am not sure when we will move back in. We are currently accommodated temporarily in other buildings that are not being renovated,” he said.

It was learnt that the renovation started some days ago after the Federal Government awarded the contract to the Army.

Many soldiers were seen all around the project area.

NAY sayers and pissimists GEJ would put u all to shame!

GAR3TH: I not a fan of Nigerian Politics and this is one of the main reasons. People over hype someone when things go well and give them too much blame when things go bad. Construction of the warri rail line started in 1991 and stretches over 300 kilometers. in 2010 GEJ complete the last few Kilometers of the rail line but yet you give him all the credit? And you disregard the other 20 years of hard work from other individuals? talk about over hyping, its not just you, PDP & ACN APC fanboys are guilty of it too.
I knew dat, my frnd. I know the history of dat line, and hv even discussd it a No of times here.. And I didn't 'give GEJ All the credit'; I actuali usd d word 'COMPLETED'. I know it startd in d early '90s and have bn abandond many times by successive admins. GEJ, following Yar'adua from late 2009/2010, completed the Agbor-Warri part, rehabilitatd some portions of the previously completd parts, is building 5 Railway terminals, is putting the Navigational and Signal System in place, expanded the scope of the track from only taking cargo to also bn able to take passengers, etc. Yes, the credit should go to all the Presidents bw Babangida and GEJ. GEJ admittedly wud be speciali credited for completing it of course, seeing the culture of abandond projects in Nigeria. There are a lot of such 'completions' and 'resuscitations' going on NOW at a pace not seen in a long time in many sectors (railways, Inland waterways, Airports, Roads, etc), dont you think?
Politics › Re: Julius Berger To Build Second Niger-Bridge by taharqa:
Abel202: My people, This sounds good. But its been quite some time (in fact its been centuries as someone aptly put it here)since we started hearing about "Federal government to build second Niger Bridge". If President Goodluck Jonathan delivers on this particular project (ofcourse I think he will), then Jonathan's prediction of becoming the best president Nigeria ever hard from the most criticised one, will soon become a reality. If Jonathan brings back the rails (which he is already doing), If Jonathan takes our electricity generation and distribution to an enviable level (which I believe he is right on course), If Jonathan Makes this second Niger bridge a reality, plus the giant strides he is already making in Agriculture, Airport repairs and building new ones, New Universities and funding existing ones, Electoral reforms which are already bearing fruits etc, Then surely this much criticised Jonathan, this much maligned Jonathan, This much disrespected Jonathan will end up Becoming the best president Nigeria has actualy ever had just like the Super Eagles under his administration has ended a 19 years drought and won the last AFCON. Let us keep encouraging Him to do more. And let us also keep critisicing him constructively to keep him on his toes. He certainly needs to do a lot more in the area of fighting corruption and National security. I SEE LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL, WHAT DO YOU SEE?
Abeg, add the COMPLETION of the 1st Standard Guage Rail line in Nigeria to that list. Yes! GEJ has JUST completed the Ajaokuta-Aladja-Warri Standard Rail line. A test train passd tru the track yterday and was shown on National TV. It wud be 'Keshi' all ova pretty soon.

"In an obvious strategic move to improve the quality of officers recruited into the NPF, the Chairman of Channels Group, operators of Channels TV, John Momoh has initiated an altruistic scheme to assist in lifting the police training colleges in Nigeria, starting with the Police College Ikeja as the  pilot. Conceived as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility, the intervention will see Channels TV embark on public enlightenments, with the aim of getting well meaning Nigerians to make sacrifices towards improving the poor state of the police colleges across the country."
