President Muhammadu Buhari will on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 flag off the Ebenyi-A Exploration Well located at Obi Local government Area of Nasarawa State.

The flag-off by the President will mark the exploration of crude oil in Nasarawa State by the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Ltd.

Buhari set to flag-off third oil field in Northern Nigeria

President Muhammadu Buhari is set to flag-off the Third Oil field in Northern Nigeria on Wednesday.

DAILY POST reports that this was contained in a public announcement on Monday by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited and the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority.

The oil field is located in Ebenyi at the Headquarters of Obi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

The flagging-off is scheduled for Tuesday, 28 March 2023.

It is the second oil field in the North Central region; the first was the Ibaji Oil field in Kogi state.

15 January 1956 was the first time Nigeria discovered crude oil in commercial quantity in Oloibiri, a community in the Niger Delta region.

Yoruba monarchs in North not accorded respect –Sokoto Yoruba leader

Oba of Yoruba in Sokoto, Abdulfatai Coker, has said that the Yoruba monarchs in the Northern part of the country should be appreciated and respected for sustaining the culture and tradition of the Yoruba in the region.

Coker, who was installed as the Sarkin Yoruba in Sokoto by the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, in February, 2016, however, noted that Yoruba monarchs in the North were often relegated by visiting political leaders from the South-West.

Speaking to Sunday PUNCH in Sokoto on Friday, the Sarkin contended that his counterparts from other tribes were accorded due respect and honour by their political leaders whenever they visited the North for political rallies and other engagements.

I hope he lives in a state that permits the eating of a roadkill.
We wouldn't want the long arm of the law tracking his egusi soup, which is bound to follow, via his social media account.

According to Wide Open Eats, there are currently 30 states that allow you to bring roadkill home for food in some way. For example, you can harvest only non-protected animals in Alabama during the open game season. In Illinois, you need a proper hunting license, and in Massachusetts, a permit is required, and you have to turn in the roadkill for state inspection.

Other states that allow roadkill salvage in some way are Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, Montana, New Hampshire, New York, New Jersey, North Dakota, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Tennessee, Utah, Vermont, Washington, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. Check with state authorities to find out the exact laws and requirements in your state because many require permits.

Politics / Supreme Court Sacks Senator Shekarau, Declares Rufai Hanga Senator-Elect by Talawaka: 1:23pm On Mar 10, 2023
BREAKING: Supreme Court sacks Senator Shekarau

The Supreme Court on Friday sacked Senator Ibrahim Shekarau and affirmed Rufai Hanga as the Senator-Elect for Kano Central Senatorial District under the platform of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that a five-member panel of the apex court, led by Justice Inyang Okoro, in a unanimous judgment faulted the refusal by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to replace Senator Shekarau with Hanga after the former Kano State governor left the party for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) before the 2023 election.

According to INEC, Shekarau polled 456,787 votes to defeat the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Alhaji Abdulkarim Zaura, who polled 168,677 votes in the February 25 election.

The Supreme Court upheld the two earlier concurrent judgments by the Federal High Court and Court of Appeal, both in Abuja, which affirmed Hanga as the genuine candidate of the NNPP.

Shekarau, 67, is a former Nigerian minister of education and two-term Governor of Kano State. He was elected in April 2003 and reelected in April 2007. He was one of the candidates who aspired to become president in the 2011 general elections.

It is on record that Buhari got five credits damn it.

Mr Henry Adewumi, Deputy Registrar of West African Examinations Council (WAEC) in charge of School Registration on Wednesday said that President Muhammadu Buhari obtained a Cambridge University West African Examination certificate with five credits.

Source: https://www.vanguardngr.com/2019/07/buhari-obtained-a-cambridge-university-waec-with-5-credits-official-tells-tribunal/

According to Cambridge, “Examination results were classed in grades from 1 to 9”.

“1, 2,3,4,5 & 6 indicate a Pass with Credit; 7 & 8 indicate a Pass; 9 indicate a Failure,” the school said.

Results tendered by Mr. Buhari shows he had credits in English Language, Geography, Health Science, Hausa Language; failed in Mathematics and Woodwork, and had a pass in Literature in English.

In its post, Cambridge said for candidates to qualify for its certificate in 1961, they needed to pass English, and not necessarily Mathematics.

Politics / Afenifere To Tinubu: You Must Prioritise Restructuring Of Nigeria by Talawaka: 2:03pm On Mar 04, 2023

Yoruba group congratulates President-elect

The pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, has told President-Elect, Bola Tinubu, to prioritise restructuring of Nigeria into a truly federal state. This was contained in the congratulatory message of the organisation to the former governor of Lagos State. Afenifere described the victory of Tinubu as one that should further unify the country in view of the spread of his votes across the country.

The statement read in part: “Garnering substantial votes from five out of the country’s six geo-political zones demonstrates that the mandate given to Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu and his running mate, Senator Kashim Shettima is one meant to re-invent Nigeria as a truly federal yet united country. A country in which every section and every citizen would have a sense of belonging without regard to any other consideration such as religion, language spoken or where the person comes from and so on.

“Incidentally, the President-elect and his party, All Progressive Congress were reported to have set up committees to meet with co-contestants to assuage them on their losses at the election just as the President-elect called on co-contestants to let them work together.”

The statement then urged those who were not satisfied with the outcome of the election to seek established legal redress “to which they have every right. We should however allow peace to reign while the legal process is explored and even thereafter. This is our country, we should learn to be able to live together in a peaceful and harmonious society but one in which justice, fairness, equity and respect for the rule of law reign supreme.”

Afenifere observed that Tinubu would take the mantle of leadership at a time that the country was highly divided with mistrust at an all-high level.

“Thus, the president-elect should, immediately, on being sworn-in on May 29, embark on policies that will heal the deep wounds in the country, foster a sense of unity and love among Nigerians and work to ensure that security of lives and property is guaranteed, jobs are created for those seeking jobs especially youths, revamp education and get the country restructured so that each region would be in a position to deploy the creative potentials it has to the maximum.”

Meet Oluremi Tinubu: The Pastor set to be Nigeria’s First Lady

Nigeria will on May 25 have a new president (Bola Ahmed Tinubu) taking over from President Muhammadu Buhari and with a new president comes a new first lady.

As the Lagos “landlord” takes over the affairs of the most populous nation in Africa, we take a look at the profile of Oluremi Tinubu.

wife of Nigeria’s president-elect who by default becomes the first lady of the country.

Oluremi Tinubu is also a member of the All Progressive Congress, APC, and previously served as the First Lady of Lagos State from 1999 to 2007.

During her tenure as first lady, Remi as she is popularly founded the New Era Foundation with the goal of establishing centers for the comprehensive development of children and raising public awareness on environmental health and community service.

The twist

while her husband won the presidential election on a Muslim-Muslim ticket, Oluremi is a pastor with the Redeemed Christian Church of God.

-The incoming first lady currently holds the senatorial position, representing Lagos Central Senatorial District at the Nigerian National Assembly.

-Remi was born on September 21, 1960, to an Itsekiri mother and a Yoruba father. She was the youngest among 12 children and grew up in Ogun state.

-She holds a B.Sc in Education from the University of Ife.

-She got into active politics four years after her last role as first lady in 2011 when she was elected senator for Lagos Central.

-The tag Lagos first lady was given to her as a way of engaging in youth empowerment and advocacy through her New Era foundation.

-Remi has authored a number of books, one of which is, “The Journey of Grace- My faith walk”

-She has 4 children with the president-elect: Folashade Tinubu-Ojo, Oluwasey Tinubu, Abibat Tinubu, and the late Jide Tinubu.

What is next for Remi Tinubu?

In a cheeky victory speech delivered on Wednesday morning, March 01, 2023, Tinubu insinuated that his 62-year-old wife won't be making a comeback to the senate, as she'll be occupied with more wifely responsibilities at home.

"To my lovely wife, Oluremi Tinubu, you the senators don't expect her back, she's going to be my housewife and the First Lady."

Ruling party candidate Bola Tinubu was declared the winner of Nigeria's presidential election early Wednesday.

The announcement by election officials overnight was likely to lead to a court challenge by the second-and third-highest finishers in the weekend vote, Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi. Abubakar also finished second in the last vote in 2019, then appealed those results before his lawsuit ultimately was dismissed.

Tinubu's ruling All Progressives Congress party urged the opposition to accept defeat Tuesday and not cause trouble after they had demanded a revote saying that delays in uploading election results had made room for irregularities.

Tinubu received 37% of the vote, or nearly 8.8 million, while the main opposition candidate Abubakar won 29% with almost 7 million. Third-place finisher Obi took 25% with about 6.1 million, according to the results announced on live television by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The president-elect thanked his supporters in the capital, Abuja, after his victory was announced and struck a reconciliatory tone in a message directed at his political adversaries.

“I take this opportunity to appeal to my fellow contestants to let us team up together," Tinubu said. “It is the only nation we have. It is one country and we must build together.”

The announcement of his victory came after 4 a.m., but celebrations already had started late Tuesday at the ruling party’s national secretariat where Tinubu’s supporters had gathered in anticipation of his victory.

Mixed reactions trail Okonjo-Iweala’s report to WTO on Nigeria’s election

The report by the Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, on how the Presidential election in Nigeria has played out wasn’t well received by Nigerians.

Okonjo-Iweala in a statement posted on her Twitter page on Monday said the presidential election that was held on Saturday was largely peaceful.

Although, the former minister of finance under former Presidents, Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, said there were some challenges.

“Back in Geneva, happy to have voted & to see Nigeria’s youth in action! All the young people in my village had PVCs & voted. Despite some challenges, thank God for a largely peaceful election.

“We pray for peace to prevail. Wishing all of us & Nigeria well at this important time,” Okonjo-Iweala wrote on Twitter.

Her statement didn’t go down well with Nigerians who trooped to her comment section to question her use of “largely peaceful” when thugs threatened and attacked voters.

They also commented that the uploading of wrong results doesn’t indicate a peaceful election. It was stated that her statement was giving credibility to the election enmeshed in violence and alleged rigging.

The former Lagos State governorship candidate, Babatunde Gbadamosi asked that “Please delete this post, Aunty. You’re giving support to a thoroughly fraudulent and completely CORRUPT process.”

Responding to Okonji-Iweala’s post, Onwuasoanya Goddy, said, “Wetin stop am if na play… can you tell how is it peaceful if it was peaceful in some eastern place doesn’t mean it’s peaceful everyone, look at Lagos, port harcourt, kano, Akwa Ibom, imo, and many more”

Sopuruchi Frank debated the outcome reported by the WTO DG, “It appeared peaceful in some States but there was widespread disenfranchisement of many people, especially, in the southeast and south south! .”

Another Twitter user, Eniola with the username @thesavvygirll, defended Okonjo-Iweala’s post, stating, “She was obviously talking about her village, what’s wrong with y’all? She then prayed for peace to prevail, that means she understands that some places weren’t peaceful. Y’all are just looking for who to lash out on. Nawa o!”
