Blue3k:
I do wonder why tax payers have to shell out cash to protect "VIPs"? Tax payers don't owe these individuals any favors. This is especially true when police man power should be deployed to fight crime. What's stopping these rich people from hiring private security guards? Is there nobody providing security services. Are they not allowed to carry the guns around? If the alternative exist people will take it.

If the government is smart they should let the private security industry thrive like South Africa. Its clear the police aren't doing a good job tackling crime. Loosening gun ownership restrictions would make it easier for individuals to protect themselves. Its obvious the criminals have access to whatever weapons they want. Its the average person who left suffers while politicians campaign on solving insecurity.

Can a country like Nigeria, which has undersized police force, really afford to have 221 officers guarding each state governor?
Source: https://dailytrust.com/thousands-of-police-guard-govs-ministers-lawmakers
Source: https://www.icirnigeria.org/revealed-8000-policemen-are-guarding-36-state-governors/

In a country that has only 306,000 serving officers; how is it possible that over 100,000 of them are reportedly attached to individuals like god of Man (goM) Suleiman. How can this be right?

Thus, the citizen/police ratio in Nigeria, with a population of about 170 million people, stands at one police officer for every 555 citizen, or about 180 police officers per 100,000 people.

This falls short of the global average, according to data from the United Nations, which indicated that it should be about 340 police officers per 100,000 people. The UN also recommends a minimum police strength of 220 per 100,000 people.

CrimeMigrants From Nigeria Are Bringing The Highest Number Of Relatives To The UK by Talawaka(op): 2:28pm On Oct 11, 2022
Migrants from Nigeria are bringing the highest number of relatives to the UK - and now face clampdown under Home Secretary Suella Braverman

- Home Secretary Suella Braverman is planning to cut net migration

Migrants from Nigeria may face a clampdown under Home Secretary Suella Braverman's plans to cut net migration as it emerged that citizens from the west African country are bringing the highest number of relatives to the UK.

Nigerians accounted for 40% of all dependants who accompanied foreign students in the 12 months to June - despite Nigerian students making up just 7% of all foreign students in that period, according to Home Office figures.

Some 34,000 Nigerians were given study visas in the UK, bringing with them a total of 31,898 dependants. A similar ratio was recorded for work visas, with 8,972 Nigerians issued with one in the 12 months to June bringing with them 8,576 dependants.

By comparison, 114,837 Chinese students who came to the UK last year brought with them a total of 401 dependants - while 93,049 Indian students came to Britain with 24,916 dependants, the figures show

Home Secretary Suella Braverman arriving to attend the weekly Cabinet meeting

MailOnline has contacted the Home Office for further information about the numbers.

Miss Braverman and Cabinet Office minister Nadhim Zahawi are considering imposing a cap on the number of children that foreign students can bring in a bid to cut unskilled migration.

However, the Home Secretary's moves appear to have split the Cabinet and seem to be at odds with public opinion - with a survey carried out by Ipsos Mori finding that only 29% of Conservative voters support a reduction in student immigration.

The polling also found that the public remains divided over the Government's controversial policy to send migrants to Rwanda, with 21% strongly opposed and 21% strongly supportive.

Dependants can work without the same level of criteria that other migrants must meet.

In August it emerged that Nigerian students have become the third largest foreign student group in the UK, following in the footsteps of India and China - after a seismic 686% increase since before the pandemic.

Home Office figures reveal 65,929 Nigerian nationals were granted a sponsored study visa in the year ending June 2022 - a rise of 57,545 (686% ) compared to 2019, when 8,384 were given.

Home Office figures reveal 65,929 Nigerian nationals were granted a sponsored study visa in the year ending to June 2022. This is a rise of 57,545 (686%) compared to 2019

Overall, international student numbers have risen by 71% over that period, with 486,868 student visas granted to main applicants and their dependents in the year up to June - 202,147 more than 2019.

A Home Office spokesman said: '[This] is the highest on record in our time series, with the substantial increase representing both a recovery from lower numbers during the Covid-19 pandemic but also an increase on the pre-pandemic period.'

There were 117,965 grants to Indian nationals this year, an increase of 215% compared to 2019.

Chinese nationals were the second most common nationality with 115,056 visas granted, albeit 4% lower than 2019.

Non-Russell group universities now make up 56% of all CAS used in study visa applications. This is the highest proportion of Non-Russell group CAS seen since the Sponsorship time series began in 2010.

The head of student processing group Ucas has said more students from Nigeria, Ghana and Vietnam should be recruited, amid a row about international admissions - with accusations that some universities are seeking to benefit from the higher fees overseas students pay.

What Marwa did not tolerate was their extortionist activities spilling on to the roads to cause traffic as it is the case today. I remember soldiers bundling the now late Saka Saula into a pickup truck at Iyana-Ipaja to Alausa in the '90s. They thrive better under democratic settings An elderly man once told me that it was the late MKO Abiola who brought these violent motor park unions into politics in the '70s days of NPN/UPN.
That elder tells no lie...

In the second republic we had Adebayo Ogundare aka Bayo Success. cry

By the Second Republic however, the NURTW had begun to morph into a bastion of violence and disorder. Around the 1970s, municipal buses had been taken over by danfos owned by private owners. As against the practice in the 1950s when local councils handled motor park management, parks were taken over by illiterate and hemp-smoking transporter union members and thus emerged the first manifestation of the albatross of violent and uncontrollable motor park warlords who were amenable to all forms of notoriety. This park politics led to schisms and antagonism and thus the transformation of parks into central hubs of political disorder. What helped to fuel this typecast was the politicization of parks.

With the contest for power by the National Party of Nigeria (NPN)-led federal government of President Shehu Shagari with its seat in Lagos and the Unity Party of Nigeria-led Lagos state government headed by Lateef Jakande, Lagos became a hot testing ground for the might of politics. The ruling NPN secured the gritty brawn of Bayo Success and gave him the task of winning to its side all motor parks in Lagos. This he did by mobilizing a huge clientele of motor park drivers, which was not secured without the multiple shed of human blood in the fracas that ensued at the parks. Bayo Success became a kingmaker and planted his acolytes as chairmen of parks in Lagos, with himself becoming the Oshodi branch chairman. MC Oluomo is also the chairman of the NURTW, Oshodi. So what is in Oshodi that breeds motor park hirelings of politicians who use them for political ends? Abetted by the federal government, so much cash and power resided in thehands of the leadership of NURTW of the time. Bayo Success died in October, 2002 at the age of 61 and was probably in his forties while he held sway. MC Oluomo is said to be 42 years old.

What is your reaction to the APC Muslim/Muslim presidential ticket?

We need to be very careful as a country on the issue of Muslim/Muslim ticket and Fulani/Fulani ticket.

We all knew how we celebrated Mohammadu Buhari when he was a military head of state with Tunde Ideagbon. It was the same thing during the 1993 elections when Abiola emerged with another Muslim; none of us was interested in Muslim/ Muslim ticket.

We struggled for Abiola, so this time around, let us not be confused. The issue is that lets look at the competency of the candidates in question. Are we concerned about Muslim/Muslim or are we concerned about Fulani/Fulani? The crisis we have in West Africa, is it a Muslim/Muslim issue or a Fulani/Fulani Jihad?

What is happening to us in Nigeria, in Benue, in Zamfara, in Sokoto, is it the Muslims that are being saved or some Fulani movement that is eliminating our people? We need to be careful in taking decisions, we have choices in our hands. So, for me, one thing we must stop is the Fulani/Fulani movement. If at the end of the day the option/alternative becomes a Muslim/Muslim agenda, in order to stop another Fulani president from succeeding a former Fulani president, I will support the agenda as Desmond Akawor. So, it’s good to get this picture right, people talk about Muslim/Muslim ticket, nobody talks about the continuation of a Fulani man taking over from a Fulani president.

So, you look at what is going on at the West African coast right from Upper volta down, there is a movement that feels that Nigeria is where they should settle. Something happened in Turkey before it happened close to Nigeria. Again, I implore us to be careful. In fact, when people say Tinubu’s wife Remi is a pastor in Redeemed and they live in the same room, those are not the issues. The question is who is Tinubu as a person? Is he somebody that will change the misfortunes of the country? That is my concern. The one I don’t want us to agree on is this Igbo presidency coming from the South East.

What is your particular reason for this? Don’t you think power should go to the South-East for justice and equity?

The particular reason I don’t want us to agree on Igbo presidency is because it is doing nobody any good.

A Fulani cannot stop Miyetti Allah. It is a natural thing for them. So, if another Fulani man comes on board, he will not stop Miyetti Allah from operating their cow business. That is what is going on in the country today and that is why the president cannot speak against them or act against them. That is my answer to you.

What kind of president does Nigeria need in 2023?

We deserve a president that will be transparent, truthful and not selfish.

A president that will see Nigeria as his own constituency and a president that will bring in devolution of power and resource control to enhance and improve human productivity. That is the kind of president I think Nigeria needs.

Desmond Akawor, the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Rivers State has said that the Presidential candidate of the party, Atiku Abubakar cannot solve the security problems of the country if he wins.

He said that Nigeria’s problems is mainly the issue of movement of Fulanis into Nigeria, saying that the former vice-president cannot deal with the problem because he is Fulani man.

He disclosed this during an interview with Sun Newspapers.

“Atiku cannot solve the problem of insecurity. I’m from Oyigbo, Rivers State. Our people are more of cassava producers and you expect me to tell my people not to farm or produce cassava because of the fear of getting attacked by Fulani herdsmen in their farms?

“A Fulani cannot stop Miyetti Allah. It is a natural thing for them. So, if another Fulani man comes on board, he will not stop Miyetti Allah from operating their cow business. That is what is going on in the country today and that is why the president cannot speak against them or act against them”.

On Muslim/Muslim presidential ticket, Akawor said that Nigeria needs to be careful as a country, likening Muslim-Muslim ticket to Fulani-Fulani ticket.

He said: “We need to be very careful as a country on the issue of Muslim/Muslim ticket and Fulani/Fulani ticket.

“We all knew how we celebrated Mohammadu Buhari when he was a military head of state with Tunde Ideagbon. It was the same thing during the 1993 elections when Abiola emerged with another Muslim; none of us was interested in Muslim/ Muslim ticket.

Politicians who lay claim to qualifications obtained through dubious means mortgaging your future?

It started as a joke and one of us took it seriously. The outfits were turned around in four days and delivered from Lagos to London the day before the event.. "It went viral, was on sky news and the Palace have now requested for it to be displayed at the London Museum..

Don't be deceived & slumber;

Is it only Lagos that has a federal university, Airports & Express ways? *Are there none in PH, Enugu, Awka, Owerri, Kano, Kaduna or are there no universities there. *Or is the FG who ASUU is fighting not based in Abuja? Wouldn't it have been more direct, effective and embarrassing to the FG to shut down Abuja Airport?

This same thing happened with Endsars protests, was it only in Lagos that people experience police brutality? Isn't the IG in Abuja?

The way we are happy at people destroying the SW is not good & we fold our hands watching with glee at the destruction of our legacies that are being envied by the "enemies". Aren't we assisting our enemies to destroy us. *Over 300 public buses were burnt in Lagos, those buses didn't belong to Tinubu nor his family, they belong to all of us but we were seem to be happy when they were burnt down.

I want NANS to demonstrate against the prolonged ASUU strike, I want an end to Police brutality but if it is going to be sectional as it's been, then it is not right & not acceptable.

It seems as if every error in Nigeria is either committed by Tinubu or LASG whereas outside the SW, some of the other parts are simply war zones. No one protest against them. No one talks about them. The focus is on Lagos and Tinubu. It seems our success is also our problem as you must've observed, the commentators at these sad events are mostly & most time not from this land but elsewhere & done with lots of joy as it shows in their commentaries, what does that show us?

Two Sundays ago, a senator's convoy was attacked, by Tuesday, no one was talking about it. Were it to be Lagos, Punch would have written an editorial, Obi would have spoken, Afenifere would have said it was Tinubu that initiated the attack to kill him. The social media would've being screaming of Mc Oluomo, Tinubu's creation, right? Instead, mum is the word.

This hypocrisy is disturbing.

Let us not rejoice when our enemies are surreptitiously destroying us as we are then complicit or in acquiescence.
This is damn too sad, Be warned plsss.

You cannot have it both ways.

You cannot claim to be the most progressive, the most enlightened, the most liberal, and then balk at the thought a student protest; which is widely regarded as a noble cause!

I beg park your ill-informed ethno-regional concern put for one side.
