patches689: You aren't considering the full situation
1. Situational awareness... In the Jungle? You know as well as I that Jungle Warfare is the single most difficult place to maintain decent awareness.
2. They weren't attackers - they were infiltrators. That makes a big difference - in normal warfare the guys with guns are either on your team or not. In Peacekeeping the guys with guns could be anyone and it just so happens that they were wearing uniforms of a 3rd party (Congolese Army).
The only valid criticism is that they didn't entrench their position better and that the weren't doing their dawn/dusk stand-to. These are objective facts that are readily available.
Everything else depends on variables that we don't know and thus cannot pass judgement on - ie: maybe the Tanzanians saw the ADF coming from miles away, but ignored them because they wore FARDC uniforms? Maybe they didn't! We don't know so we can't say. Thanks for response. I understand more now. The war over there seems something different entirely. However I feel wherever an outpost / base is, there should be a limit to where even friendly forces need to approach before identifying themself and you confirming it. Like few meteres to the base itself, set up a perimeters and take everyone trying to come close as a threat until being confirmed. |

Someone here, I think it was Dayo, posted images of a UAV suspiciously resembling the Denel Bateleur, offered by your real not pretend rivals. You'd be amazed how much chutzpah they have, for example unsuccessfully ordering 1 each of every SA system in which they're interested, year after year .

Covert1: Well you summed it all up. Perimeter defences were non-existent making the base occupants canon folders for enemy fire. Appalling! A clear case of ineptitude going on down there. Testament of poor training. In honor of the KIA I won't use the word Amateurs. There's a similar base that was almost overran by bokoharam in NE. The video has been posted on Bidexii thread before where those guys claimed BHT sneaked into their base at night almost causing them to fire at each other since you can't recognize the enemy easily again. Fortunately, there was no life lost on the part of our own guys but a soldier was shot on his leg. Base intact. To me, lack of situational awareness and response. All I can deduce is these guys of ours have been in that battlefield for long and know how to respond but the Tz guys might have seen just little action. Other conditions applies too. |

Odunayaw: Their acquisition is written in the budget. 谢谢你。 记得。 Lionel4power if you listen to news you'll be misinformed and if you don't, you'll be uninformed. N'DJAMENA (Reuters) - Chad's military said it had carried out air strikes against Boko Haram bases in Nigeria in retaliation for twin suicide bombings in Chad this week that killed at least 34 people, but the announcement was strongly rejected by Nigeria. The air raids caused heavy human and material damage to six of the Islamist militants' bases, Chad's military said late on Wednesday, without providing further details. Nigerian authorities denied reports that the attacks had taken place on its soil, saying they were likely to have instead hit targets in neighbouring Niger. "The claim that the Chadian military have conducted air strikes against six terrorist camps in Nigeria is not correct," said military spokesman Major General Chris Olukolade. https://www.google.com.ng/amp/mobile.reuters.com/article/amp/idUKKBN0OY14720150618 |

lionel4power: you have been saying this for a long time now.... but the reality is that when the Chadian air force was hit by a storm only one mig -29 was SLIGHTLY DAMAGED according to media reports.
the fate of the other jets are currently unknown. that doesn't mean that they were destroyed. Chad has Mig -29 and Mig -25. Three Mig 29 orders since 2009 and only one has been delivered since then. Do you know since when NIGERIA has been operating jf17s too in her dreams? Let forget about Chad, our airforce is in a bad shape and it's disheartening the government doesn't take this issue to be a serious one. Odunayaw said if an Intel comes about a pending air attack on abuja, the senators will quickly release funds but to me the senators will quickly jet out of the country. |

Let's not underrate any attack, 10-15 years ago if they ever tEllis me Nigeria will be fighting one of worlds dangerous and deadliest terrorist, I would deny it.
There are a lot of tension going on with our land borders with Cameroon and Chad. AND NEVER , EVER Under estimate the capabilities of your enemy. And even when they av superior air assets over you. Chad has a single Mig -29. That's the problem. |

lionel4power: if some technical conditions are set right then it should be able to hold ground against superior fighter jets. Any jet can shoot down a superior fighter in my opinion. Imagine a super Tucano with AAM. If the Tucano is able to stay in a right position ( at the back of a SU-35) and then fires and AAM, it's obviously a kill for the Tucano. In as much as some parameters are being fulfilled, it's possible. |

bidexiii: Of course I know it's an interceptor .....
But can it stand a more superior fighter jets(Mig29). One on one nope. 4 F-7 on a Chad's Mig 29 won't be a fare fight. You can't chase the 4 jets together. Depending on tactics being used, if the Mig 29 has a lead on one but have 3 f-7 on its tail ready to fire? |

What cash. DRC is poor and don't care about a few solders and Tanzania is not flush with cash either.
Not all radios can talk to each other. Tanzania are probably using completely difrence radios. Not to mention I doubt they even know the frequency that are needed to talk to them are. I mean I don't I just turn to the needed channel on the specific radio. I mean we sail with multiple different handheld radios for this reason. One to talk to each other, one to talk to the ship and one to talk to air craft. Yes not all radios can talk to each other. Was expecting an interoperability in DRC since they'll need air support from you guys. So let say they need air support with tangos on friendlies uniforms too, how do Rooivalk clarify who the main target is? |

SupremeCourt: AVM Chukwu is telling lies tpo himself and to those who dont check facts. I saw the video and ignored it, but with people saying things I will drop a comment.
NAF is the biggest thief in Nigerian military history, as in 2011-2015 Nigeria spent over $ 15 billion on defence alone!!!
Algeria spent $ 8 billion on the fantastic weapons purchases that you see in photos all over the internet, it made Algeria the undisputed most modern military in Africa and the second most powerful after Egypt according to global firepower.
Compare Nigerian military to Algerian military in terms of equipment, then put your tribe, religion and political party aside for 10 minutes, I am sure your God given conscience will tell you that Nigerian military 2011-2015 was the most corrupt in the world.
Why did NAF not replace their Jaguars when oil was $100 a barrel and we gave them around $ 4 billion from defence budget? Instead Air Marshals Badeh, Amosu, Umar etc all purchased billion naira mansions in Abuja and Lagos, then forcing NAF to keep flying 30 year aged Alpha jets.
Where was political will in 2011-2015 ? Today oil is down to $50 a barrel our government is spending over $ 360 million on those 12 new mi-35m hind e helicopters alone, and we ll finally replace Jaguar with jf-17, alpha jet with yak-130, and mig-21 with mig-29 or mig-35. This is the current political will in the era of falling oil price and many hungry people on our streets starving to coma. My friends in Abuja always blame our hunger on current defence budget because it is either we buy enough weapons or we buy enough food in our war with Boko Haram, its a hard choice and we all know. Give us oil at $100 a barrel today and you will see mig-35 land in NAF TAC base Makurdi in NAF colors.
If you want to make Nigeria great again, senate should pass new law of death sentence for corruption like China did to save itself from Chinese corruption and become great.
Now silence your God given conscience and put on your Nigerian tribal, religious and political feelings again, then tell me to go to hell.
One question, whose fault is it? Alex Badeh or the current CAS. I agree it's corruption but the power was in the hands of the previous CAS. Now, the government already traced those properties. Why not sell them off and purchase new items for the NAF? I see no reason in seizing those assets. Just dispose them off and use the proceed to fund the Nigerian Air Force. |
