Xbee007: Say it like you mean it. Truth be told, we all want new tanks at least a T90 but what can we do? You know how much we've well been criticizing DHQ on our naval and airforce capability but what have they done? These guys also know what they want but they don't have the cash. The best thing is for the government to increase our defense budget as it can't even maintain the military acquisition. We can only clamor but we don't have the authority to decide for DHQ. MAYBE if I have Dangote's type of wealth, I would have given out $2BN. Mr Aliko Dangote just made a $50B investment in Europe and USA. Who knows he might be reading this and surprise us |

Okay. Nigeria needs T-14 armata. DHQ you must purchase.

SupremeCourt: The same evidence you are all asking me to show you, have been posted repeatedly on this same Nairaland by your own friends. You, see, Nigeria has a big problem because too many dishonest people are born in this country. We always replace one bad government staff with another bad one because we are a nation of bad people. Incompetence, deceit, fraud, disloyalty, lack of common sense, its in Nigerian blood from birth. Dude not all T-72 came with the era armor and the attached picture is one of them. As you can see, that's a hit from RPGs . Those t72 are active in combat and you don't not expect a shinning one. Now compare this picture to the one you posted. Not all the T-72 came with the ERA armor.

SupremeCourt: I said our T-72 are falling apart, people said no, I am stupiid, yet same people admit the tanks have suffered damage from war. So what did I mean when I said they are falling apart and need replacement? You guys love to deceive yourselves a lot on Nairaland, turning blind eye to visible truth.
There is no brand new T-72 in the world, and intelligent young soldiers are saying in FCT that Nigeria can get T-90 second hand but never used all like new in Russia for $3 million instead of finest T-72 old technology for $2 million. It pays to be smart. You said they're falling apart and they seeked for evidence. We're not to believe so when we still see them active in pictures and both videos while you have a claim without evidence. |
Foreign Affairs › Re: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by tdayof(m): 2:57pm On Dec 17, 2017 |
Supremecourt I understand you. We love to have the hi tech hardwares but we have an issue which is funding.
Getting 100 t90 should be around $400M. 12 multirole fighter ($480M) A billion USD is almost gone. If we had $5b then we can be talking of those high tech purchase.
We still need air defense systems. However, it's still a good idea if DHQ takes procurement one after the other. Satisfy air superiority and tanks first. Others can be handled by the budget. |
Foreign Affairs › Re: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by tdayof(m): 12:05pm On Dec 17, 2017 |
homerac7: Oga, those new tanks are not made and kept in showrooms waiting for buyers. You place an order, it goes through long bureaucracy that takes many months to years, then approval, then start of production, then you get supplied in piecemeal over stretched period of time. God help you the seller country doesn't have national emergency by then or you don't have diplomatic fallout.
Meanwhile, tank in storage takes far lesser time to get approval and delivered since it was ready build, mostly functioning and already planned/considered for shedding off.
T90 = remodelled T72
....whereas , T72 is the workhorse of any Russian built tank using army anywhere in the world. It is what C130 is to most air force mobility command, to Russian equipped army armour battalion.
T72 & T55 make up larger fraction of Russian Army tank inventory. Those are their real work horses. In fact, the latest upgrade of T72 matches T90 toe to toe in every performance, and edges it on proven history.
All said, what you probably should be thinking is getting large number of well preserved T72 and upgrading good numbers to latest configuration. That's far more effective and efficient than waiting for fancy T90, Armata or even Leopard 2 (which you might never get due to past experiences with NATO). There's something calls "high-low" mix in equipment planning. Good number of regular armoured T72s + upgraded T72 + maybe down initial payment for "tropicalized" Armata you/we hope to introduce in another 10-15yrs, when some of the T72s, Vickers and Scorpions would have been finally scrapped. By the way, remember to make provision for light tank replacement for the Scorpions too.
For the @SupremeCourt guy yapping everything he knows by half, how can you make a clear intentionally mischievous comparison of what Algeria spend in just ONE year with what Nigeria spent in over TEN years? Them no teach you basic data analysis for school? Yes, I agree that Nigeria has mostly punched below her weight, but you spoke to the other gentleman so rudely and failed to answer his very simple question. It shows who's smarter between you two, of course. Please learn to be courteous to people EVERYWHERE and make your point/argument as polite and clear as possible. We can't all agree on all issues, moreover the person you are debating with is a USER of the materiel in discussion, not even Russian Army chief of armoured corps will have that arguement with him , he can only LISTEN and LEARN when the hands-on end user is talking about the equipment.
Peace to all people of peace Twelve guns salute to you. Nice write up man. |

andrewza: You think Nigeria is going to jump the line? Sure tanks are built at steady speed but they all bought all ready, this all so excludes negotiations. So yeah if you want a brand new tank it takes time.
Nigeria's T72 are not bad, not for what you need and you could establish a factory In Nigeria to refurbish and upgrade them. Faster and creates jobs. The best thing is to have the government set up a JV with proforce is establishing a factory here in Nigeria to licence produce the T90. |

The fight against terrorism isn't a drill. Do not expect a good looking T-72.
Those T72 have been taking serious hits from BHT. Not brand new doesn't equate to less capable.
Can you just tell me what has made the T-72 less capable?
Obviously, NA will be looking at T-90 above when purchasing any MBT and they should procure new ones from Russia. |

I don't need to see pictures because I am replying you from inside one of the so called third hand broken down tanks. nemesis4u: it depends on the model and the customization
base model SU30MK unit price should cost between 35-45 million in today's price
SU30MKI costs around 75 million
actually its difficult to put a price correctly it depends on several factors , price may come down if its a packaged deal with considerable no of units . only after negotiations done will u be able to get the correct price.
just to be safe expect it to cost close to 60 million
Vietnam follow on order for 12 SU30MK2 cost around 37.5 million each for total of 450 million in 2012. that should be around 55-60 million now
algerian1 whats the cost of SU30MKA ? We can also exchange with palm oil. |

Myanmar ordered 16 block two not B https://quwa.org/2017/12/11/second-jf-17b-prototype-now-flying/ Yes, was talking about the ones flying. Actually, the person who took the pictures said they belong to Mynammer. They probably ordered both block 2 and B. Anyway, I just want to see a picture of one with NAF roundel.

barineh: We order 20 extra jf17 to add to 6 already then complement it with the yak130 or L15 jet at least 12. Then we turn our t55 to IFV. We MUST buy new tanks 150 t72 tanks from Russia would do for now. Some attack helicopters would do some good like the Russian black shark . The Army's aviation should be scrapped. $1b would do all this. And I should stop In my opinion since the navy is getting a special funding from the Senate, they should be excluded from this $1bn deal. Nemesis4u, how much does a su30 cost? |

kikuyu1: We all deal with budget constraints but what happens when your armed forces aren't subject to normal political oversight? What happens when the military basically writes their own cheques? You get the Pak military!
https://qz.com/1134516/inside-pakistans-biggest-business-conglomerate-the-pakistani-military/#
IIRC,when my dad visited Karachi on a tea marketing trip 12 yrs back he said the army influence was "everywhere." This is not a good thing! They're a self funding entity interested in pushing hostility against a practically invincible enemy,India. Feeding off civilian anger against India has basically ensued their successful careers. Looking at the stats compared to India its actually no contest.

They're outspent 5x on the gross! That's some nice write up. This is however far from most African countries. In Nigeria, I know the Nigerian police force runs schools, ultra modern hospitals, banks, printing press and insurance companies. The military runs schools. They all need to target the large consumer market. If the Nigerian airforce can open a cocoa processing factory in Nigeria, then they'll be paying for their acquisitions very soon. |

nemesis4u:

a SSBN with the capability to fire only 4 long range SLBMs (12 short range SLBM ) is not much of a deterrent or use.
a SSBN has less hydrodynamic performance compared to a SSN so at a disadvantage if used in the dedicated role of a hunter and killer SSN.
at best it can be converted into a SSGN with 20/24 AShM / land attack SLCMs There's an adage that says a man with a single eye is a king amidst blind men. So a SSBN that can fire just 4 LRSLBN and 12SRSLBN is okay to make a deterrent in the West African waters. So can you now tell me how to steal a top notch SSBN? |
