andrewza:
Now the issue is what jungle was the test done in. Was it the flowing hills and thick jungle of DRC.
2 how much does it cost. You think the DRC has money for nice radios.
You comparing Apples to oranges here. I mean SANDF have Secure SATCOMs for emergency use. But you can't expect the DRC to have that or a company of Tanzania infantry. They probably had long range radio tower and a few short range radios.
Any case communication was only one reason the attack was so deadly.
I would focus more on the fact they never did the morning Stand to has the biggest issue. That shows a lack of care for security.
The base it self is not that big a deal has people think. It surrounded by earth embankment's the watch towers have sand bags in them and if they actually caired about security it would of been sufficient. ADF does not have tanks.
Possible increase the number of radio check inn's to be once a hour. I mean it stand to do hourly rounds in any case. Yeah. I agree. But on the issue of the base isn't a big deal, I feel there should always be a normal standard to be maintained by the military even at the lowest unit. Communication is very important. They knew their weak point, Destroyed their communication tower first and then attack them massively. About the money, If you need to win the war, why not spend the cash on necccesary equipments than wasting human lives. Frumentum said something about communicating with the Rooivalk helicopters in which I have a question to ask, isn't there suppose to be a free channel where the Rooivalk can communicate directly with the Rooivalk pilots if it wasn't danger close? |

andrewza: 3 to 8 km range when they 15km from. The nearest freindly base. The distance evolved here are large than you think. A radio system itself shoukd give you a medium ranger of 3-8km in a jungle/ deep forest. Include an external antenna designed for such. You'll have a 15km range. A dp4800/01 will give you a 5-8km in a jungle. After extending the range with an external antenna designed to work under such condition you can have up to 15km. Using a low Tx/Rx antenna then such is a billion times possible. A research was conducted using radio wave propagation through forests with tree canopy reflection effect by a guy I know shows the dp series itself has a talking range of 23km using an external antenna in a jungle/ forest. Of course the antenna was specially designed. |

Dalek: Hope u know a missile from NK wont have to pass thru Europe or mainland Asia. Thats why we have the Pacific ocean bruh. Yes it won't pass through Europe but NATO already has an anti ballistic command chain in the Pacific Ocean being set up. With its command at Ramstein Germany. The United States pacific fleet is very large and this include various SSN/SSBN and also a strike group to halt N.K missiles.

North Korea will never hit America directly. North Korea missiles will have to fly pass American strong holds and her allies before hitting the United States.
Imagine a ballistic missile going to the US with hundreds of US ships/subs and ADS in her allied countries ready to intercept aggressively?
Ramstein which heads NATO anti ballistic operation command will have all available missiles striking it.
The best North Korea can do is to attack Japan, South Korea , Guam and US military assets around in which the Japanese and south Koreans will really want to avoid.
If it was Russia then I would have agreed. North Korea technological advancements is impressive but too vulnerable to world powers..

andrewza: radios obey cretin laws of physics. You need the tower so the radio can rely long distance. Yes I know. I mean communicating with a nearby unit. You should have at least 3-8km in a jungle with a back pack radio operating on an external antenna. Sorry at least, you should be able to communicate with a nearby unit. |

Frumentum: And you'd be wrong. Google jungle canopy and radio comms. Or are you referring to handheld radios to co-ordinate with helis? Guys on the ground were Tanzo, with no way to communicate with the Rooivalk, and there was no FAC on the ground. Besides, no one is dropping ordnance when fighting is within 50m. It's called "Danger Close". Handheld radio to communicate with anot.her close by unit. Not a direct communication to the FOB and chill even if it wasn't danger close, how do you differentiate the bad guys from the good? |

Frumentum: And you'd be wrong. Google jungle canopy and radio comms. Lol I know what I'm talking about. Deep in the jungle, deep forest etc whatever. Our guys are now been able to operate handheld radio. Let forget about handheld radio. What about a back pack with a separate antennae operating on a very low frequency? Radio relays etc? My point is there are other options that could have been abducted. At least a backup deep down in the forest. |

The removal of bomb detect devices is crazy. There's no reason to remove them. In fact we should be buying and deploying more to NE. The terrorist are doing more suicide bombing more anyway. http://dailypost.ng/2016/12/28/obama-hails-buhari-dss-foiling-attack-us/ |

Odunayaw: Hehehe. I don't know Seeing that's where the SBS conduct their maritime phase of BOC/C it should be impressive stuff
We have stocks of mine we use to train our Mine Counter measure Vehicle personnel so maybe the SBS has some it uses to train in demining Furthermore, I got a snippet from someone (don't ask who )that SBS train in advance delivery techniques (via subs) in Pakistan
I wish we had subs #sigh since I watched the video of that AVM about issues with NAF in which he made mention of political will to fund the defence sector. I just gave up in expecting a large and impressive military purchase . I need to know why we didn't go for the well armed type 056. Any idea? |

If DIA comes with a scary report now about how France wants to bomb Abuja you will see senators running back to their hometown and screeching that we begin to buy things Hahahahaha this same Nigeria? If DIA comes with that report, senators will be jetting out of Nigeria. |

Odunayaw: ADS is for deference. Its a given we'd never blow one of these world power's jet out of the sky. We are talking of UAVs. Shoot the bloody thing down,is it our clueless journalists that will report it?Shoot, keep, use as bargaining chip. its that simple
IMO I would say piss neither, Two of those three have interests in Africa and God forbid we being proxies to hurt one of those ones. Anything relating to National security shouldn't be subjected to bipartisan politik. Odikwa very risky You mean we shooting down a world power drone. I just feel DHQ will only place a phone call accross to the US embassy or Washington. But to me, it feels like US is the reason behind our rubbish purchase history. I doubt if either US OR France will want a nigeria with a sophisticated air force hence they keep telling ASO rock any move to purchase such will lead to an economic sanction. |
Foreign Affairs › Re: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by tdayof(m): 2:53pm On Dec 09, 2017 |
Odunayaw: Another reason why I shake my head that we have no ADS Nigeria is not willing to get into that kind of war with a world power. We don't have that kind of liver yet. In as much as Nigeria still plays double standard and keep both china and USA as an ally inclusive of Russia then trust me our military can't grow. You need to be ready to piss either China and Russia and make friend with USA OR kick USA and be super close to china and Russia. I prefer the latter . |
