Well, let me clear you all on this matter. We 'live' in the new testament and we merely "learn" from the old testament. Our lives is from Jesus' resurrection upward. We do not live in the old testament. Many Christian's live like the Pharisees of Jesus' time. The Pharisees can be compared to modern day church goers. What we call "religious" people. They are not "Christians". They are merely doctrinal. Jesus always criticized these people in the Bible. The modern day Pharisees are what we see in deeper life churches or in many other churches in nigeria. We need to understand something. Jesus was not religious. He never tried to be. Whenever the Pharisees criticised him abt something. He fired back at them. He did miracles on the Sabbath and interacted with sinners. Jesus was rather radical. Not holy holy. He held feasts with his disciples, something equivalent to parties in our time. He turned water to wine at a wedding for people to CONTINUE drinking. He beat the shit out of people selling in from of the temple. He interacted with a prostitute. He never followed the doctrines of the Pharisees. ** About the commandments; Jesus said in Mark 12:28 to love God and our neighbour. Jesus has already paid for even the sins you've not committed. |

Ok Let me explain: When we say the righteousness of God; the Pharisees or ours, we mean the 'rightness' of God etc When God talked about something like a dead tree. And he said the tree was flourishing with green leaves, for example; even though to us,that tree is glaringly dead, the fact that God is always ' right' will make that tree come back to life and flourish. So therefore, the righteous of the Pharisees is not the same as ours. Cos the Pharisees followed doctrines all the time and Jesus was always against doctrines. What is ' right' to the Pharisees is not or not supposed to be what is right to us 'Christians'. Understand one thing, theres a difference between being religious and being a Christian. |
