Kia.! See reasioning . God will help. So Na NOU/Minister of Finance job function to overhaul NTA nationwide? MUMU!!!. You should look for the likes of stella Odua, with vision and purpose, to be in the top of NTA so that what was done at our airports could be replicated in that junk house called NTA nationwide. God bless Nigeria
Yeah, that was what you folks said about Dora Akunyili as Minister for Information until her tenure saw ZERO improvement in the likes of NTA. Oduah's 'achievements' have to be viewed from the prism of drastically increased FG intake from draconian taxes, FAAN airport charges and sundry levies. Even with that, construction work progresses slowly and quality of finished work can be abysmal (just take one look at the Lagos GAT terminal). Add to that her abysmal safety record (approx 200 deaths so far) and it doesn't look as rosy. It doesn't help that a recent Vanguard investigative report indicts the FG's draconian tax regime + high price of aviation fuel as part of the reason why carriers in Nigeria cut corners on safety. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2013/10/frightening-revelations-planes-may-keep-dropping-skies/ Don't get me wrong: Corruption issues aside (and she SHOULD get the hammer for this) Oduah has been doing a tolerable job in terms of infrastructure etc. Safety takes priority, though, and she has to take some knocks for that. Finally, I indicted the entire FEC, not just Okonjo-Iweala. Our national station should be a source of national pride. The FEC approves the funds for such a modernisation drive. Please learn to read carefully before making knee-jerk responses. |
mobi5592: Never seen a fuul like this oneBut you have a mirror at home na ![]() |
chronique: Serious?? Is it a phcn thing? I know my colleague sold a 2004 tokunbo 4runner to another phcn staff for 2.9 million naira last week. The funniest part is that the car wasn't worth the amount she paid for it. A car that had stayed in naija for over two years with no buyer offering anything close to it... I was shocked to know someone coughed out that sum of money for that whip. I hope say nor be curse wey Nigerians done curse them, dey follow dem sha. But only God knows how some folks reason sha. 5.5m out of 6m on a whip? Smh.There's no guarantee the man doesn't have money stashed elsewhere. The OP just says the man has 'nothing to show for 20years work'. Knowing Nigerians! it's likely this just means the man hasn't built a house yet. Not everyone wants to build a house . |
Rossikk: YOU are the disgrace and the fool, for not checking up on things before typing gibberish.Buhahahahahahaha This is what happens when they foolishly allow the ignorant lapdog to post. Listen, you sycophantic ignoramus. There is a difference between switching to a digital platform and. Clear signals. You can still transmit Abysmal production values digitally. Even in the UK where the digital switchover has been completed, there are still many channels broadcast in SD. Of course even that SD is of far higher quality than what we get from NTA. So my dear ignoramus, digital crossover has nothing to do with NTA's piss - poor service. They can certainly go improve their output right now without waiting for the switchover which will not happen anytime soon. Please stick to praising your masters and don't dabble into things you know nothing of, lapdog. |
Promhize: Ode, so na NOI go leave her work go dey direct NTA. U mumu no be small. I'd rather they close that thing if not for the employees that would be out of work. The topic is about TV in Nigeria. And I CLEARLY put the blame on the entire FEC which should be concerned at the shoddy output from NTA. In short, my previous comments are apt. It's your fault you cannot read or comprehend written English. |
Okonjo Iweala should go and sit down. She's on the FEC...what has she - along with her cohorts - been doing to ensure that NTA gets the drastic overhaul it sorely needs? It's 2013 and the 'Giant of Africa' cannot even broadcast in HD. Nearly all live events covered by NTA have abysmal audio and video quality. Such an utter disgrace. |
specco: Haba, another status freak here, even if he saves for 20yrs! It is still foolhardy to use three quarter of your salary to acquire a luxury item such as a cellphone which can change hands easily(ie being stolen 4rom u) or get damaged easily.Actually, 100k is 2/3 of 150k, not 3/4. You should have invested more in maths classes... PS: Not everyone who is buying an expensive smartphone is doing it for the 'status'. |
Burger01: From N6m severance package he could buy Tokunbo jeep of his dream for 2m, a bungalow building of two flats for 3.5m. He stays in one flat and rent out the other flat. He could then use the remaining 500k for faaji and thanksgiving.Lol, where is he going to get a Bungalow to buy for 3.5m? In what area? Anywhere you can get a Bungalow to buy for that amount, the rent accruing from the spare flat will not be more than 100k per year. theoctopus: Who told you, you can ever achieve happiness and satisfaction from buying things? A pity that is what some of you think. You can never have enough in life. Are allll the politicians stealing Nigeria's money satisfied? If you want to live long and happy, you better change the way you think. Money is never enough. Material things are never enough. There will never be a point where you will attain happiness and satisfaction by buying things. Wrong foundationSpare me the lecture. Everyone has hobbies and desires. Some like cars, some like houses etc. Please learn to speak for yourself only, it depicts a lack of maturity in you to expect that everyone else reasons like you. You would have been happy if you heard he invested that money in buying a house. Is that not a material thing too? Money is never enough, man's wants are insatiable. But people can self-actualize without having all the money in the world. if YOU want to live long and happy, I suggest you change the way YOU think. Stop bringing 'contentment' into this discussion! |
theoctopus: How can you not see anything wrong in that? It is totally wrong. You cannot use over 60% of your salary to buy a phone. That is madness and stupidity put together. It is poverty mentality. Who is such a person trying to impress? You should never live above your meansYou earn 150k a month. You save 75k of that money every month. After 10 months, you have 750k. You use 100k to buy a phone that you like. You still continue to earn 150k a month. How is this 'madness and stupidity'? Look, the ultimate aim we should all aspire to is to achieve happiness and satisfaction. If that phone makes him happy, how is that your business? It is FAR worse to deny yourself all the pleasures of life just in a mad drive to save all the time. Once in a while, feel free to splurge on yourself. |
patriotic007: Excellent idea,....We all know that Nigerians dont mess with their private business so the solution is privatisation,....some people say its a avenue to extort the masses but i think if you can put a car on a major highway to travel, fuel the car, even buy different snacks and food on the way then a toll of 100 or 200 naira should not be your problem full stop,...I know you're a child, but those of us who are old enough remember that Obasanjo scrapped the toll gates as a concession to increasing the fuel price. Can you now explain why - with no commensurate reduction in pump price - are the tollgates coming back? It's not about what money 'is your problem'. it's about not being unfairly asked to pay. Anyway, to borrow your words, if the FG is able to put together billions of naira on political jamborees and a harebrained plan to spend tens of billions on a centenary celebration next year, putting together billions of naira to fix the roads shouldn't be their problem. |
Eze Promoe: Who told you they were bribed?I have no love for crooked people. You're on your own. |
GeneralJ: Uneducated stupid brats, just like to say things without even thinking, ibos and yorubas, matter of fact i'm tired of all of you, why not just take up guns and juju and kill yourself, so that we don't have to hear about this ibo yoruba thing again, today is ibo tomoroww is yoruba, why can't you just be nigerians for fucking once, kill yourself so we don't have to have these tribalist shit going on, what is wrong with this world man. i'm tired of these tribalist people. No single thread can ever be run on this site without somebody blaming ibo or yoruba for thier daily life problems, why not become ghanian or cameroonian so that ibo and yoruba will not be in your life again. i don't understand the reason behind these people man i really don't... what do you gain for making fun of ibos and yorubas, any small thing ahh, you find a way to bring in a tribe into the conversation WHY WHY.. why not just come together for once and become Nigerians, why do you think Nigeria is the way it is today, because people are tribalistic...w hy not just get over the tribal shit...i mean you are all black, you are all africans, you are all Nigerians come together and work together SUTPID morons stop tribalism just FUCKING STOPI support this 100%. This tribalism thing is getting really tiresome, with these immature louts styling themselves 'defenders of their race' and coming here to sow seeds of discord. If I only I had the power to line them all up and flog some sense into their thick skulls. |
anonimi: So Fashola is no longer the Chief Executive of Lagos STATE at whose desk the buck stops as he is ultimately solely responsible for the good, the bad and the ugly of the state he governsWell, that's one way of looking at it. Another one is to note that the BRT scheme has been on for over 4 years and the drivers admit in the OP that they are not used to salaries being delayed. In other words, for most of the time, their salaries have been paid promptly on the 25th of every month. I daresay this is better than what happens in many agencies and ministries of the FG's Civil Service. Not sure why Fashola is now being knocked for this by you. That aside, I fully support their right and decision to strike to press their claims. Salaries are every worker's right...and must be paid as agreed, as at when due. This new 'senior staff' should be probed and brought to book if the allegations are correct. |
Ukuts gp: Do you believe in generational curses?. That is, curses passed on from parents to children and so on. Can curses be passed from parents to their children? No. Everyone charts his own path in this life. Ukuts gp: Also can sinful habit such as fornication, womanising, lying, anger, etc be passed on from parents to children? Pls i need ur view on this. Drop ur comments. Thanks.Replace 'sinful habits' with 'bad habits'. They cannot be 'passed on' just like that, but children can learn from what they see their parents do. If a 'chronic womanizer' has zero contact with his kids, what's there to be passed on? |
ekaromail: Wow, A lot of comments from a lot of angry people. Well, let me start by saying this. The movie trailer was done with ZERO BUDGET. I'm sure you all know what zero means. There is nothing wrong with ZERO BUDGET. There is EVERYTHING wrong with ZERO IMAGINATION. I'm not sure why you still persist in calling this a 'trailer'. Have you ever seen a Trailer before? What is there in your video to get anyone intrigued about the story? About the actors? Where's the imagination? Creativity isn't about just putting together crude 3D models. Why did nobody think to put in some dialogue? Where are the explosions coming from? Why the terrible music? Why spend so many days on animating those crude models then ruin everything with the CorelDraw 4.0 fonts? Why is 50% of the Trailer composed of showing off the movie credits? Why is the alien at the end a rip-off of the Aliens movie franchise? Kajola was a pretty horrible movie at the end of the day, but at least the guys behind it knew what a trailer was https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8FYkPOOHnNE ekaromail: Now why did I post the add and trailer as I did? I posted for two reasons. 1. To get comments and see people's reactions. I knew I will be criticised but I didn't think insults will be added to it. 2. I posted so that some good people who believe in what we are doing will support us financially so dat a better job can be done.Sponsors? Zero budget? These are worrying statement from someone who promises a Feb 2014 release date. You're expecting to spin this into a movie people will pay money to see. Believe me, those of us who have been very strident in our dissapproval are actually the ones doing you the biggest favor. I suggest for your December trailer you actually shun laziness and deliver something that doesn't give off such terrible vibes. And fix those damn fonts. |
Xion: What a nice way to save someone from embarrassment,Well, you were talking like a sycophant. What the heck was I supposed to say to you? Xion: There's no time to trade words with you, but kindly find better ways of being a constructive critic. This is not a CGI movie. It is a live action movie with CGI elements thrown in. The trailer was abysmal, there was ZERO dialogue, no acting talent on show, not a single thing to show that the OP has ever watched a single trailer in his life. It's not about whether CGI is 'beans' or not. It's a job/skill like any other. Would you be happy if your mechanic messes up your car and tells you that 'it is not beans'? For whatever reason, you are celebrating mediocrity. You deserve any knocks you receive. When you finally summon up the courage to come up with your own work, at least do everyone a favour and actually put some thought into it. |
Vivly: Most of those antagonists used their hard earned cash to purchase BB during its hay days , That explains their anger towards patient consumers who bought a cheaper iphone and still get to use BBM'cheaper iphone'? BWAHAHAHA! IPhones are always much more expensive that the BlackBerry phones of that generation. |
Xion: Just to let you know, NL is a testing ground for your tolerance for critics. Many will say shit about your work and dreams just to discourage you. It's up to you to prove them wrong. And many sycophants who are satisfied with mediocrity like this guy above will try and tell you you're on the right path. People who are rightly dissing this trailer aren't trying to discourage him. They are trying to save him from an expensive embarrassment. For a Feb 2014 movie, this is terrible. |
This is an utterly HORRIBLE 'trailer'. I'm disgusted with the people with the 'let's encourage them' mentality. There was no need to focus on the totally terrible CG. Where's the acting? You can do zombies with convincing acting + skilled makeup. Why the inappropriate music, the insistence on showing the credits for half the time in a freaking trailer? Why are the streets so clean for a post-apocalyptic Lagos? Why are the fonts used so terrible? You don't NEED too much CG. We heard ZERO dialogue in this 'trailer'. If the movie is supposed to be about zombies and the 'dangerous creatures' are supposed to be a plot twist later in the movie, why are we shown an alien? Why does the movie title have 'Rise of the Aliens'? Isn't that a massive spoiler in itself? I truly wonder if the people behind this have ever seen a movie trailer before. If you have slow internet, Please take N1500 and go to Silverbird and pay for a movie...watch some trailers until you get it. Movie comes out Feb 2014? Less than 5 months away. I beg you, put some brains behind your next trailer if you want to get viewers. This one is truly abysmal. |
PointB: Why is he and other so-called SW activist engaging in conspiracy of silence on that, but find it easy to campaign against a very hard-working member of the FEC, the most effective Aviation Minister in the past 2 decades.Yes, very effective indeed. nearly 200 people dead in plane crashes in her tenure. Effectively killed. ![]() All the Oduah worshippers...when passengers are paying record amounts of money as airfare, and a huge percentage of that goes to increased Govt taxes. Add to that the FAAN N1000 charges and we're supposed to bow down and worship her because doing a half-assed job completely absolves one of corruption charges. If the likes of Barth Nnaji and Oduah do not want to face this vitriol, they ought to learn to keep their hands free from corrupt practices. |
The OP is a sterling example of why ASUU needs to press this strike to the bitter end. He lists the positives as long term benefits for the nation that will benefit students for decades to come. The negatives are the short-term demerits of keeping one generation of students at home for months. And then he goes ahead to conclude that the strike must end because stuff like 'delayed academic calendar' and 'delayed admission list' are more important to him than a radical revamp of the education sector that will benefit future generations! Such twisted logic! |
dumodust: everyday stella this stella that... My ears are buzzing and despite the fact i hate corruption, this is obviously getting childish and amateurish. How much is a tundra? And it is a truck not a luxury car. This woman has enough personal money to buy these cars so something is amiss. Suddenly dino melaye and all the other rot axed or sacked from the govt are authorities on corruption...Stop reasoning like a little child. It doesn't matter if her personal fortune can buy 1 million of the cars. Were the cars bought using Taxpayers money? Yes! Is it not a significant issue for a cash strapped agency to buy these cars for her? yes! FYI, there was significant noise of the Pension scam issue. But like most episodes of corruption under this present administration, it's been swept under the carpet. dumodust: No noise, but stella's name is suddenly causing nightmares. Dont get me wrong, she's certainly corrupt but most of the people shouting do worse that's why it's disgustingProvide proof that most of the people shouting here are linked to the corrupt waste of taxpayers funds running into hundreds of millions of Naira. Provide that proof or STFU. dumodust: My bit- maybe we should start putting up posts for every government ministry because most are worse than aviation ministry eg petroleum, oil, nnpc all criminalsBy all means, if you have proof of corruption in any Government agency/ministry, post it here or send to Sahara Reporters. |
See ya aboki gworo chewing mouth! You are rejoicing because the mallams at the airport and hidden corners will get rich overnight selling and printing naira as usual and exchanging foreign currencies when is that your terrorist brother leaving our CBN sef?
Sometimes, i wonder why God allowed some of my smart intelligent friends like Jude Ngba and Mickey Olumoye to die so young of illness...and left people like you still alive to pollute our gene pool with your imbecility. |
deor03: This is another thing that has to change. How would someone take up a job space within our economy and payment for his service remitted in another economy ?Please don't speak about things you are ignorant of. Their salaries are FULLY taxed, no exceptions. @Topic this is a laudable move from Sanusi. I've heard there are some highbrow estates in lagos, for example, that collect rent in dollars. Some schools even require some payments in dollars. That's totally wrong. |
ChiSun27: * will toeYeah, good catch. Wonder how I made that mistake ![]() |
deadie: The op has a valid point, and you don't. It is unfortunate that some people (like you) find it ok to degrade our culture but will defend their religious rituals to death. As an instance, people now use Italian wine (my cousin had to because her religious husband believes that drinking palm wine is a sin!) instead of the traditional palm wine. And people like you will probably support it. Will you agree to the use of palm wine for your holy communion? Over your dead body I hear you say.How is it 'degrading your culture'? The world moves forward and everything adapts. The traditional marriage is still done in accordance with the culture and customs of the bride's village, no matter where it is held. That is the bottom line, the most important thing to consider. This is just a non-issue, brought about by you oversabi people. YOU don't get to determine what is the 'right' way. Times change, and customs change with the times. Do you eat your fufu from clay plates and pots too? This is what the OP says These marriages are always performed at the compound of the bride's parents and follow the rules and regulations of the bride's land and end with the long procession of the groom, his new wife, and his people, back to their home. Apart from the 'performed at the compound of the bride's parents' every single one of those items on the checklist can easily be done in a traditional wedding held in Europe, for example. So are you clowns (OP, deadie) saying that your culture is severely damaged because the ceremony is not held in the bride's parents house? Just that 'infraction' is enough to make you guys make this whiny post? PS: Your analogies are brainless. Nobody will use palm wine for holy communion because it doesn't keep as well as bottled 'wine', it has a higher alcohol content among other reasons. |
safarigirl: why so harsh? I support the OP. The worst is the ones in Nigeria that would do their marriages in Lagos or Abuja, at least those abroad have excuse. You that's in this country, what's your excuse? The only thing is, once a lady marries, she becomes the property of her husband and his people. Except she's interested in further relations with her father's side, or is from Asaba, where she'll be buried in her father's compound, she may be ok with ignoring tradition, na her papa go suffer repercussions.Like I said, they have their reasons. You ought to respect that. At least, these days lots of them do it for security reasons...or convenience. As long as it's the father's house, what's the issue if they decide to do it in the family house in Lagos instead of the family house in the village? The important thing is that the marriage takes place according to the customs of the bride's village. That way, the cultural value is preserved. The location is of much less importance. |
odumchi: Personally, I find it funny when people conduct so-called "traditional" marriages (which oftentimes are not traditional in in any way, shape, or form and are simply parties in which the bride and groom are dressed in lace or ankara) overseas instead of going home [to Nigeria]. I understand that sometimes there might be financial constraints and all that, but that doesn't negate the fact that [to me] it's such a weird idea. I mean, isn't the idea behind marrying someone traditionally supposed to be fulfilling the marital customs of the woman's land (speaking from the Igbo perspective)?I think you should mind your business. Marry off your children the way you see fit, but stop judging others. Maybe someone else with toe your path of not minding your business and open a thread complaining about people opening nairaland threads at 6:15am instead of going to church ![]() |
This is most likely false...but if true, will confirm Samsung as a purveyor of useless gimmicks. Apple's TouchID works because you put your finger on the home button for less than a second and it unlocks. You can easily do it when bringing out the phone from your pocket or grabbing it off a table or something. It's attractive to those millions of people who hate using passwords but now can have some great security without wasting time. having to raise your phone to your eyes and looking in a sensor for a second or two is way too time consuming. Plus, this would really suck for the millions and millions of people who wear glasses or shades. Very unlikely to happen. |
nkemdilimi: The fact remains that yoribas suffer PHDs (Pull Him/Her Down) syndrome in both corporate and govt circles. The "Igbo Problem" as mentioned in 'The Trouble with Nigeria' will never cease. This is not the first & won't be the last of such tribally motivated onslaughts on Igbos in positions. So you're saying a group (or cabal, if you will) of Yorubas conspired to use brain control methods to make Stella Oduah compel the NCAA to spend such a massive sum to buy TWO armored vehicles for her? Not sure when you clowns will remember you are Nigerian...and Nigeria needs YOU to grow. Defending a shameful act like this with the tired 'Pull Him Down' line is just plain shameful. |
As well as Dora Akunyili, arguably the most honest civil servant/politician. Your point?
There are millions of civil servants in Nigeria. many of the Nairalanders here even have parents that are civil servants. Many are 100% honest. Akunyili did a decent job in her turn as the NAFDAC DG but to turn around and claim she is the 'most honest' is sheer sycophancy. If I were you, i would be very hesitant to bring up her thoroughly lacklustre performance as a 'politician'. We're still scratching our heads about what became of the N8b or so reserved for HD equipment for NTA during one of the Youth world cups held in Naija. Posterity will judge her harshly for the billions wasted in the brainless 'rebranding' campaign that even a toddler could have told her was destined for failure. |
