idupaul: My friend I discuss with people who use their heads and would never waste my time to argue with someone who intentionally blinds himself with some form of parochial loyalty be it maybe SLS is ur uncle , he has helped ur village , U have benefited ( even tho wrong) from his policy or presence in CBN or the worst kind your just plain stupid and take decision based on how much testerone [center]My friend will you keep quiet there! You have proven yourself to be a child - or of childish reasoning - when you displayed your bigotry. I have no business with Sanusi. I have every business calling out ethnic bigotry and hypocrisy, things you have demonstrated in no small measure in this argument. But don't let me stop you from spreading your inane FUD about Sanusi being an 'islamist' and a 'potential terrorist'. |
You know the sad thing? When the FG reneges on this agreement in the next few years, we'll still hear the same people on Nairaland complaining about 'incessant ASUU strikes'. Signing deals has never been the problem. Getting the crooks at the top to honor the deal is another thing. We'll see |
ROSSIKE: You consider the devising of weapons systems that kill and maim millions of people ''intelligent and visionary''.So you're saying the FG is using meatpies and puff-puff to fight Boko haram? I had thought the APCs, tanks and heavy machine guns the army was using in the North could kill people. Who would have thought that they were non lethal? Thanks Rossike. /s |
Sometimes the headlines I see on Nairaland infuriates me. FG is not handing over any money to ASUU. ASUU does not receive money from the FG. Any increased funding is disbursed to the Universities where it is administered by the VC, the Bursar and the Senate (University Governing council). It is headlines like these that enable all the half-witted undergraduates on Nairaland to make inane posts like "ASUU r greedy. LOL" ![]() |
Peterwins: Here he goes again speaking as if Nigeria is the only country that uses tariffs in regulating its economy. He's talking about very high tariffs. heavy tarriffs imposed by the EU on chinese products were only for those products that were brought in at so cheap a price that the local manufacturers couldn't compete. There is no reason here that locally produced rice should be at a serious disadvantage price-wise to the imported product. The issue of porous borders cannot be dealt with satisfactorily by the Nigerian Customs. Years of experience tells us this. Peterwins: ..... and he finally contradicts himself.i see no contradiction here. |
Police freely allows supporters of Wike, GEJ, Felix Obuah etc to storm the airport. Praise singers routinely troop out on the tarmac. It's a clear sign that the leaders we have up there are no longer concerned about the increasing perception of being a 'banana republic'. They know the Nigerians out there are more interested in watching the latest Davido video on Youtube. I don't care what your political persuasion is...it is extremely troubling that pro-FG rallies and events are given free reign to hold while rallies held by people who the Government does not hold in high esteem (Amaechi et al, ASUU etc) are shut down for flimsy reasons. And we all keep quiet. Truly shameful! |
idupaul: I would love to respond to this but can't as I can very well see that your flea infested brain can only think in bigoted and tribalisitic pattern. And please don't get me wrong when Sanusi talks I also get impressed and yeah I very well admit that he is one hell of a smooth talker but we can't dispute the fact that he is not good central banker .. Sanusi. and his all brawn less brain economics put a lot of strain on the Nigerian economy and the country was very lucky to have fiscally pulled through the effects of his very short sighted (infact blind policies ) ..You thrice accursed m0r0n! You dare accuse someone of being bigoted, yet you're the same hypocrite that labels Sanusi an 'islamist' and state that he would have been a terrorist if he were born poor. He has been voted the best central banker in Africa multiple times by respectable bodies. i'll take their judgement over yours anyday, thank you. |
freecocoa: Oh! The more reason why Obi should be prosecuted, why didn't people die when Ngige went there?I'm sorry, but this is NOT an intelligent post. People are dead...stop the deaths of innocents as an excuse to tackle a politician you don't like. That's awful. Mr. Aboki has the only sensible contribution here. The venue was inherently unsafe and this must not be brushed under the carpet. Forget about Obi or Ngige et al. The Catholic church must take some blame for this, and I say this as a Catholic. Gathering such a huge number of people in a venue without proper exit points and crowd control is pure lunacy...this shows our safety culture needs to drastically improve. |
usibengate: I think d op had made a vry germane point. With d fact dat nija university system is in a state of abysmal, dismal & unda funded, i'm stil of d opinion dat nija graduate is stil more brilliant & intelligent, mentally, physicaly and otherwise dan their over proported well funded counterpart in ghana. Cos it's d nigerian lazy, dullard, serial exams faillures, fun seekers and unserious students dat are always embracing ghana university. I wonda if any... Any ghanian university student can make 200 and above in JAMBLMAO! Surely, you jest! Go to any topic on Nairaland that discusses the ASUU strike and see how truly 'brilliant, intelligent and smart' the contributions are from the undergraduates that respond. |
curtain: Any lecturer that agrees to lecture beyond 300 student in a class is not qualified to lecture in the first place, why not protest about such condition instead of demanding for money, ur statement clearly shows that ASUU is fighting the wrong battle, NUC has made regulations as to the number of students each department should admit, the fact that ASUU engage in the illegal business of admitting more than the school capacity further proves how unresonable their demand is.1. As far as I know, the Universities in Nigeria adhere to the NUC quota. At least it was that way when I was still a student. There are lapses when it comes to the internally administered Diploma courses, but for degree courses, it is well regulated by NUC 2. ASUU has no business with admission of students. I'm not sure why you guys are so ignorant. Take your complaints to the VC and University Admissions board. |
dabrake: So I ask again, what is the function of ASUUThe function of the lecturers that make up ASUU is to teach people like you that making a sweeping generalization (assuming practically all of the thousands of lecturers in Nigeria are just like a few of the terrible lecturers you've had) is very daft. You've given a few examples of terrible lecturers. Can you now stand here and honestly tell us that ALL your lecturers are like that? |
emmymdk: Even if ASUU is given 300trillion naira, that won't stop them from sleeping with the female students and selling handout at a costly price... They are just being greedy, that kind should not be given to ASUU coz they are not the only union in this country. Instead, the FG should put the say needed equipment in our institutions themselves. My HOD last year was given 15m naira for the installation of a WIFI network for us the INFO.TECH. students,my brothers and sisters we have not seen any mask or anything since them,he just recently opened his own hotel in Okigwe road Imo state... How then are we sure ASUU won't spend the money this wayASUU doesn't get any cent of that money. Money goes to the Universities, spent by the VC and Bursar, with oversight and approvals from the University Senate. Your comment about sleeping with female undergraduates betrays your idiocy. Some lecturers are corrupt and immoral, but one cannot generalize it to all ASUU members. That's just like me claiming all students are cultists because I know there are some students that are cultists! |
Domaro: this story too long jorr. Stupld ASUU should go and rest let us learn onlin, u want to compet with rest of the world in what sense. By mamot salary size and hudge allowance or by knowledge u impact, which most of u dont even have. Let us be computalized and we cannot only compete with the rest of the world but we can beat the rest of the world. Teaching me from thrmodynamics note prepared by late profesor when he is still a doctor in 1992 will not compete the world of nano tecnology. We need internet and free acces to accademic matrial online. We can improve greatly.Oh Jeez! To think the person who wrote this rubbish claims to be an undergraduate!! You wicked, wicked boy! Wasting your parents money like this. All that money paid to train you and still you're this backward |
Sermwell: sadly, you didn't answer any of my questions!... If there is a deadlock come monday, should we students remain at home forever no matter how legitimate ASUU demands are? If you think FG is ever going to meet all ASUU's demand then you have misfired! ASUU should be willing to shift grounds just as FG has done if not something has be done! What ever neccessary evil the FG is going to employ to ensure the students resume school should be welcome by all well meaning nigerians! ASUU cannot hold the educational sector to ransome because all their demands are not met! Haba!Yes, ASUU should and WILL shift grounds to meet the FG, when FG moves to a reasonable position. If FG fires 99% of the lecturers, what school are you resuming to? If you go back to school and you see no lecturers, how does that benefit you? Are you sure you don't want to go back to school just for the sake of it? No well meaning Nigerian will ever welcome any insane outcome like replacing 90% of the lecturers with fresh graduates like you ![]() Sermwell: Besides FG has not openly ignore or unwilling to meet their demands! So what's the grandstanding for?have you been living under a rock?! |
Sermwell: you are actually looking at this issue from a myopic point of view! Let me ask you too... What if FG makes its final offer and ASUU sticks to its ground? Should FG folds its hands and do nothing while the students remained at home? The FG has done something to end this strike, what has ASUU done to shift grounds?ASUU isn't fighting for 'something'. They are fighting for a comprehensive funding of the University system. Are we supposed to laud the FG for handing out the same peanuts in a delaying action that will leave the schools in their chronically poor state? The FG's tactics have always been to 'appeal to the lecturers' publicly and hand out peanuts that solve nothing. Then when the lecturers rightly proceed on another industrial action to protest the non-implementation, the FG goes to town (in conjunction with the brainless students) to complain about incessant closures of schools. Sermwell: ..is it not clear that because this men think they can work in private universities and are therefore being unresonable thereby jeopardising our future?.Now you're just being hilarious. How many private universities are there that will suddenly absorb all the striking lecturers in Nigeria? ![]() Jeez, can you people even TRY to put some thought into your arguments for once? This is embarrassing. Sermwell: if you think ASUU is fighting for the interest of the students, then you must be a sore joker! One doesn't have to think too much about it, you know. One just needs to look at the demands from ASUU. The Allowances they are asking for have already been all-but-promised to them. The massive funding for our Universities is the crux of their demands, and that benefits the students much more than it will ASUU. ASUU doesn't receive the funding for the Universities. The VC and Bursar handle all that, with the University Senate approving capital projects. No money is being shared in bulk among ASUU members. If you're happy with the substandard education you're receiving, that doesn't mean you must be stridently against the future generation inheriting a vibrant and flourishing University system. Sermwell: The truth is if they refuse to shift grounds come monday, FG should do whatever possible to send students back to school!...FG should open a register for those lecturer that are still willing to work and replace those that are bent on jeopardising our future! Period! So when 90% don't sign that register, you'll sack them and replace them with who? LMFAO! You're complaining about disruption, you think you can replace thousands of lecturers in one fell swoop and expect services to normalize in years? I swear, you guys reason so simplistically, it's funny as hell. Where are you gonna find the replacements from? Unemployed graduates with no flair or interest in lecturing? There is a SIMPLE solution to this issue. Implement the 2009 agreement. If the Government is financially unable to, break it down to ASUU, show them the books. Show them how the nation is unable to implement it completely due to the high financial burden. Work out a roadmap - endorsed by a crapload of eminent Nigerians - to drive implementation. Schedule re-negotiations for 2016, for example. Agree on a compromise in good faith and implement it faithfully! Sadly, the present administration will rather continue to idiotically blame everything on the opposition. The fact that so many students fall for this tripe is a testament to the veracity of ASUU's demands. |
Such a shame to see people swallowing this story from this crook. Such a MASSIVE conflict of interest (his own company bidding for some of the privatized assets) would have seen him undergo serious investigation in saner climes. Certainly, a highly educated man like himself had to have known what he was doing was thoroughly unethical...to come around and blame faceless cabals for his issues is just plain hilarious. |
wesley80: Believe me dude, so far you're the only nominee for "extremely daft person of the year". CongratulationsLMAO. The words of a sycophantic government stooge is like water off a duck's back. |
Danjunior: I have said same thing from day 1. I have never had sympathy for ASUU since the strike started. no common sense in their demand. We knw it culd help our institution but we still knw its for a selfish interest, and i have also beleive POLITICALLY MOTIVATEDAnyone who believes this strike is 'politically motivated' has to be extremely daft. Politically motivated strike which is asking for NO NEW demands but the application of an agreement duly noted and endorsed by the current president? I know some of you are frustrated with village life, some miss their girlfriends, some chafe under parental scrutiny etc but try to use your brains when you put forward your arguments. It is a clear admission of imbecility to play the 'politically motivated' card. |
Such a shame that so many people cannot grasp the import of what these groups are saying. These other unions are asking the FG not to implement the recent MoU being touted about, but to implement the 2009 agreement, the same one the FG is desperately kicking against. In short, this statement is even worse for the FG when you think about it. Abeg, ASUU continue with the strike jor, let these short-sighted cretins that abuse you on NL continue ranting. Nigerian Universities MUST be drastically improved if we are to remain in contention in the world. |
cjrane: @ the bolded,So, if it's GEJ's idea and promise to make Enugu Airport and international airport, why do you need your crooked 'sister' to be there at all costs? Why would a cabal of Yorubas scheme to remove a minister when the minister's replacement will just carry on doing the same thing? I think we've seen enough to know that Oduah is highly complicit in this matter. You may want to elaborate on why her aide, Joel Obi, initially claimed the cars were for Oduah's security. Abi is Joel Obi now a Yoruba name? Please stop saying 'our dear Nigeria'. You do not love this country. If you did, you would not be so hasty to brush aside corruption because of ethnic bias. |
samtin: ASUU strikes from1999 till date:Sometimes when I read posts from cretins like you, it becomes depressingly clear that this country will never realise Her true potential. Enjoy the few thousand naira you were paid to spout this m0r0nic spiel. |
Billyonaire: We all know that these lecturers do not know anything. Equipped with internet, students can totally study their courses and know beyond what their Lecturers know.Erm...if ASUU was interested in their bank balance, this strike would have been called off ages ago. the FG has agreed, afterall, to pay the allowances demanded for. All ASUU now wants is for the FG to fund the University system to the tune of the 2009 agreement. What plight of the students are we talking about? The few that are in school now or the many generations to come that will suffer in substandard schools? |
The fact that so many people here think Universities can open and function without ASUU members is saddening...it gives me more conviction that the strike is absolutely needed. |
rhymz: All of a sudden known bigots of NO have turned to activist all because they want Stella's head, I dey laugh....until there is an official pronouncement on the case by the constituted authorities charged with investigating the case, no amount of journalistic embellishment by the Yoruba oligarchy will stop the Igbo from supporting Stella, this is Nigeria not the UK or China where things are done based entirely on their merit and not based on unseen powerful interests pulling strings and using subtle antics to continue their tribal hegemony of the Nigerian economy and politics.....we will play the game just as we have observed you play it.....cry all you want. And to think you're the same person that had this to say a short while ago This is exactly what breeds corruption. How can Adeboye ask people to contribute a billion naira? This country has lost morality, we have lost our sense of decency. Adeboye is a hypocrit and a smooth talking bible wielding conman, they are more interested in building magnificent edifices for boasting sake than the welfare of people. You were the same person railing against indecency, corruption and lack of morality...and now here you are supporting the same thing because the person involved belongs to your tribe. Even If we assume your post lambasting Adeboye had nothing to do with your observed ethnic bias, at best you come out of this looking like a hypocrite. |
Adex097: Howmuch did they pay the E-supporters here on NairalandThe likes of Sincere9igerian and Jmaine are the elite, probably paid per month. They are the 'intelligent Esaus' who are given enough cash to quell their conscience for helping to ruin their country for their children. The likes of Taharqa and Rossikk are the impact force, using insults and crude logic to stifle intelligent discourse. They are probably paid per post. People like Wilywilly are tribalistic haters and do it for a bottle of 'monkey tail' |
taharqa: The FOOOLISHNESS and Unbelievable IGNORANCE that some of you Kids spew on this forum almost regularly is truly Astonishing... I know that by now I shouldn't be surprised (and, am usuali not) but there are times when it just gets to me..Ah, lapdog Taharqa. Dumber than Rosikk, not nearly as educated as Sincere9igerian and lacking the polish of the likes of naijaking. You are too far down the pecking order for me to spar with, a tout thrust online to argue with your betters. .Get out of my sight, you uncouth underling! |
uboma: And who insulted you? Pls quote the insult...'didn't mean any insult' does not mean someone insulted him... |
Turbocharged: for the bolded:The lamentable thing is that if only you had paid attention to your studies when your community scraped together funds to educate you, you'd have seen that my last paragraph condemns the salary delay and salary cut and called for a probe into the issue. I suggest you work hard on your ability to comprehend written English. |
Rossikk: Well, we shall all see when the switch over happens in 2015. Predictably, a st.upid, worthless illiterate like you will be nowhere to be seen (hiding in shame) when the radical transformation occurs. You fool nobody. You're not known for your brainpower, and you try to mask your lack of intelligence by showering insults on your betters. people who have been on Nairaland for years know your antecedents (well before you became a paid lapdog of the Government in power). Everyone knows the benefits of going digital, you cannot hold a candle to me when it comes to tech matters. Even without the general switchover, the FEC has sat idly by while opportunities to rejuvenate the NTA have gone begging. Case in point is the N8bn earmarked for the NTA upgrades for the FIFA U-17 world cup...no visible benefits of that move so far. Did you watch the nauseatingly poor coverage of the FG reception of the Super Eagles after the Nations Cup win? Terrible audio, terrible video. You should not be so keen to indict your paymasters this way. Public sensitization started in the UK SIX YEARS before the final switchover. Yet here you are, telling us in Q4 2013 that the switchover is planned in Q2 2015. Where is the public enlightenment campaign? Where is the PSA telling people to purchase Televisions with the receivers built in? Or telling consumers to purchase HDTVs? Or telling them of the projected expenditure required to purchase the 'subsidized set top boxes'? Sycophantic lapdog. Do not presume to insult your betters again on Nairaland ![]() |
Akinmail: When is olamide's album coming out200 people dead in two years from air mishaps in Nigeria. At least 3 Lucky escapes recorded in the past 4 months that could have added another 100 minimum to that toll. Someone wrote a thought-provoking article on one of the root causes of this rubbish and all you can do is to type this crap? Smh |
Saw this great editorial in Vanguard http://www.vanguardngr.com/2013/10/frightening-revelations-planes-may-keep-dropping-skies/ What this means is that there appears to be a fundamental problem in the system that has not been addressed, and that has to do with policies enunciated for the industry by government. There is a suggestion that no matter the volume of safety audit conducted on airlines, safety would remain elusive as long as the operating environment created for airlines remained harsh.I agree with this premise. anyone who has booked a flight online in the past few years will see that FG & Aviation agency taxes make up more than 50% of the ticket price (sometimes, much more) and the high price of aviation fuel is well known (shameful for an oil producing nation). With marginal profitability, the airlines have to cut corners, sometimes compromising safety. This is not to say the airlines are not culpable. Safety MUST NEVER be compromised, doing so is just plain criminal. But one has to imagine that the FG needs to make the business climate much less hostile to the carriers. A sensible thing to do will be to provide significant tax breaks for carriers that can demonstrate a world-class level of safety. That way, the money that will be spent on stringent safety checks will not be seen as an unnecessary burden. |
ziccoit: If you don't spend N20k/month on alcohol because you don't drink.Erm....read my post well. I'm actually I'm full agreement with you. |
