Phones › Why Some Tecno Phones Come With A Free Powerbank by texazzpete(op): 1:22pm On Sep 30, 2013
Tech Suplex has a great article on why Tecno ships a free powerbank with their phones. Seems like a great marketing tactic on face value, but apparently it hides a darker secret

http://www.techsuplex.com/2013/09/16/tecnos-power-bank-value-marketing-gimmick/

Out of curiosity, I did a quick check on Tecno’s battery management, (thanks to everyone twitter that chipped helped) and guess what? Tecno doesn’t optimize android OS for its hardware, at least not well enough. Two key indicators of how well optimized a version of android is for the hardware it is running on are the battery usage level of the “Phone Idle” process (battery expended when your phone is not in use, but “listening” for activity e.g: calls/emails etc) and “cell standby” (which has to do with your antenna and how power is managed with regards to signal strength). Those two processes on Tecno phones are unusually high as seen below. In essence, a shocking amount of battery is being wasted on those two processes because no one has bothered to tweak them for the hardware.

So putting everything into perspective, maybe Tecno knows it’s sleeping on its battery game and just tosses you a power bank to make up for that and score marketing points in the process, because frankly, it’s a lot cheaper to dash out power banks than invest in R&grin to optimize an OS for your hardware. Think about it this way: With the power bank, you get two batteries for your Tecno, but maybe all you should need ideally, is one.
Screenshots below, with comparison with Samsung phones.

Orikinla: I can see that you are the one who is IGNORANT OF THE FACTS OF THE MATTER.

The last time Lagos state doctors went on strike, I was the only Nigerian online journalist who defended them and summoned international support for them and I did so at a great cost, because it pitched me against Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola when he was hosting an international conference and I was able to get to those attending the conference and told them to ask the governor to take them to the government hospitals and the Lagos state government suffered great embarrassment.
A pregnant news reporter I knew died during that strike among others.

Strike or no strike, I have seen how Nigerian doctors treat patients in emergency wards in Nigeria.
I have taken a collapsed woman to the emergency ward of the General Hospital on the Lagos Island and she was not my mother.
They did not attend to her until I spent all the small cash I had on me.
I saw horrible and terrible things happening to others who did not have any money or anyone with them.
I saw an old woman tumble from a transport stretcher and fell on the hard concrete floor and they were nonchalant, because she was a poor woman and had no relations with her.
I was in the ER with the woman I brought from 10 am to 11 pm before her family came. I could not leave her alone, because they would not have attended to her.

When my father was ill, I never allowed him to use public hospitals, I was only 20, but I spent all my savings to keep him in private hospitals for over one year, because I did not want him to suffer in public hospitals.

When you go to public hospitals in Nigeria, Nigerian doctors careless for their patients. But when you go to their private hospitals, they treat you better, because of the money you are paying them.

So, before talking to Orikinla, you should check first, before posting your stupid reply.

See http://www.nigeriansreport.com/2012/04/lagos-doctors-are-playing-politics-with.html
I'm not sure if you realize that your link is completely opposite to the epistle you wrote above. Contrary to your assertion that you supported the last doctors strike, you wrote an article lambasting the doctors for being 'unreasonable'.
I also noted your harebrained suggestion to the Lagos Govt to hire 1000 Cuban doctors (who will be paid much more than what the doctors were asking for).

I'm not surprised there are far more non-ideal experiences in public hospitals vs private. Take time out from your hateful crusade against medical doctors to go and interview hospital proprietors and let them tell you the staggering number of people that constantly use medical services they cannot pay for. What lawful means remains to the hospital to recover their investments? Why are you so shocked at Doctors being jaded and uncaring in your lagos state hospitals, when an average lagos state doctor sees over 50 patients per day...some with very troubling ailments...and are paid a hazard allowance of less than $100 a month as someone stated earlier?

have you bothered to express your outrage to Fashola that less than 1200 doctors are employed by the state to serve a population of more than 16 million people, ensuring that doctor: patient ratio is approaching 1: 15000?

I suggest people like you with access to the powers-that-be use your position to canvass for improved conditions of service for essential workers like medical doctors and nurses to ensure full motivation. Stop shedding salty tears because people are acting like human beings. When a man is struggling to secure his future and you overwork him, when his motivation and welfare is at an all-time low, complaining because you're not getting the level of care you see on House MD and Grays Anatomy is just plain hilarious.

IMHO, the lowest medical doctor in Nigeria that is employed by the state should be taking home nothing less than 300k per month. Hazard allowance of less than $100 monthly is a fvcking joke. Let the FG and State governments do their part BEFORE you start whining about the doctors.

deenee: @ texazzpette, there is not need to be abusive. You don't see me throwing abusive tantrums in any of my posts, do you?

More so, there is no where in the post where I have categorically used the word "ALL" hence you assertion of me stereotyping doctors is incorrect.

Please read through my post again. There is a huge difference a private practice and setting up a private clinic.

The term that I have used: "private practice" connotes the provision of health services outside the public sector apparatus and for a higher fee and not necessarily within the confines of a clinic in such a manner that it overrides public interest and also creating income leakage for the government.

Examples include a RD that converts one or two rooms in his apartment to a makes shift clinic for patients.

In all sincerity, doctors that have private clinics or engage in private practice can as well focus fully on their private endeavors. Abroad, hardly, would you see public sector doctors engaging in private practice. They are either with the govt or fully engrossed in private practice.

Finally, I will suggest that you take time to read through comments before replying. Doing the opposite will only allow people to have a dim first impression of you as a person.

God bless Nigeria
I urge you to flee from dishonesty. This is what you said

Resident doctors that don't resume work on time, don't attend to patients professionally. Divert profitable medical cases to their own private practice thereby creating income leakage for the government, steal drugs subsidized by government and sell them at exorbitant prices and also run their own private practice.

In your own words, you are clearly insinuating that Resident doctors routinely come late to work, are unprofessional, steal drugs and divert patients to their own private practice. You made no distinction as to whether these acts are done by a small fraction of their number (as is statistically apt for a country like Nigeria) as you're now trying to claim.

For anyone who works on a time based contract, what he does on his spare time is absolutely none of your business. Stop babbling about what goes on 'abroad' as if your Government looks after the local doctors welfare like is the norm in more civilized lands. Focusing on private or public is left to the individual, and a professional will always give the best of his abilities to his employer.

You should even be asking yourself why private clinics in Nigeria would have so much allure if the Government owned hospitals are well funded, well equipped and staffed with motivated doctors and nurses.

I don't give a damn what you think of me. I only urge you to think before you put pen to paper and before you post any comment on Nairaland so you do not get lumped with the growing army of dolts here.

Well, I hate you too...more than you can ever know. I despise you doltish, unintelligent parasites that my tax money helps to subsidize. Ignorance and foolishness are YOUR problems, not mine. At least I know that millions will suffer if doctors resign.
If you think people agitating for better conditions of welfare are doing so to 'criticise the president', your case is much worse than I thought.

Resident doctors that don't resume work on time, don't attend to patients professionally. Divert profitable medical cases to their own private practice thereby creating income leakage for the government, steal drugs subsidized by government and sell them at exorbitant prices and also run their own private practice.

I am of the opinion that if all these govt agencies are privatized and people are in all sincerity paid for the number of work hours that they clock in as obtainable abroad, strike will be a thing of the past.

At the end of the day even if their demands are met, there won't be any significant increase in the quality of service that is provided. Same is also applicable to the education sector.

At the end the "common man" who can't afford to pay for private health service or for private education is the ultimate loser.

May God bless Nigeria and instill in us a spirit of patriotism.
According to this lunatic I've quoted, all resident doctors have their own private clinics.
Does this dolt know how much it costs to set up a private practice?

SOME doctors have their own clinics. Stereotypically insinuating that all doctors have their own clinics is just idiotic.

Finally, there is nothing wrong with a doctor having a private clinic, as long as there is no conflict of interest. Those private clinics employ doctors that treat your fellow Nigerians too. Let the Government pay the doctors for services rendered and stop wasting our money on rubbish ventures.

Orikinla: When these doctors go on strike, many poor patients suffer and die. But the rich patients can always go to the private hospitals of these same doctors, because when they go on strike at the government hospitals, their private hospitals boom. These Nigerian doctors care less about their poor patients. Even if they don't fear God, they should have some sense of morality and conscience. Many poor people have died, because of these inhuman strikes. I have seen Nigerian doctors treat poor patients like their life is worthless without money in ER. The fact is nobody prays and wishes for tragedies that happen without notice and at such emergencies, most people are rushed to the hospitals with whatever amount of money they have on them and yet in most cases the doctors don't treat them without first asking for payment. That is why you can hardly find Good Samaritans in Nigeria during emergencies, because Nigerian doctors will not treat strangers in emergencies. But in the United States of America, Europe and even in Asia, doctors rush to the rescue of even strangers to save their lives in emergencies before asking for money. Why are Nigerian doctors even doctors? For the prestige of the title of the profession? For the high income? Or for their love of caring for and saving lives? One thing I want to tell these Nigerian doctors is, WHETHER YOU BELIEVE IN GOD OR NOT, THERE IS GOD AND HE KNOWS AND SEES ALL THINGS AND EVERY LIFE IS PRECIOUS TO HIM NO MATTER THE SOCIAL CLASS STATUS OF THE PERSON, AND GOD WILL CERTAINLY TREAT YOU AS YOU TREAT YOUR FELLOW HUMAN BEING. THE LAWS OF HARVEST NEVER FAIL AND EITHER YOU, MEMBERS OF YOUR FAMILY OR RELATIONS WILL PAY THE PRICE SOONER OR LATER FOR EVERY CRIME OR EVIL YOU DO. GOD IS WATCHING US ALL. BEWARE OF GOD.
Its so pathetic seeing someone as educated as yourself put aside his brains and make inane and daft comments whenever the issue of doctors strike comes up.

Part of the reason why the strike option is the only one left to the likes of ASUU and doctors is because they know that if they take their plight to the court of public opinion, people like you will happily recommend the 'suffering and smiling' approach.

The fact that you can make this kind of brainless post shows you why you struggle to remember what you are taught.

Leopantro: what do you think of this writeup

NEW YORK ( TheStreet ) -- Google 's
management team is dancing around
its new KitKat statue today, having
dodged what could have been a
competitive bullet or two from Apple
-- possibly the new iWatch, iTV or
even a new laptop. For heaven's
sake, they didn't even announce a
new iPad!
There was nothing new from Apple
today that could stop Google's
market share march forward.
Another company that's having a
field day today: Nokia . Apple's new
iPhone 5C is seemingly a flawless
copy of the Nokia 620 that has
already been available for several
months.
Oh, and the price of that Nokia 620
is approximately half that of the
iPhone 5C.
Fingerprint sensor? You mean the
same thing I got on my Dell laptop
in 2007? And on the Motorola Atrix
Android smartphone in January
2011? If Apple's latest claim to fame
is to having copied a Dell 2007
laptop and a January 2011 Motorola
smartphone, then Apple is in trouble.
Which is why Google is celebrating
today.
Google's Android and Chrome teams
were already nicely ahead of Apple's
iOS team in terms of service
integration, customization, ease of
use and ability to ship a given grade
of hardware at a much lower price.
Over the next few months, Google's
Android and Chrome teams seek to
extend their existing lead over Apple.
The company will introduce Android
OS version 4.4 KitKat, a slew of new
Chromebook laptops starting around
$199, a Chromepad (touchscreen
Chrome OS tablet) and next summer
the first Chromephone (Chrome OS
replacing Android on the
smartphone). The pace of innovation
at Google is simply faster than it is
at Apple these days.
Even before Google unveils these
new initiatives, look at how far
Google is ahead of Apple in the
smartphone race: At $549 unlocked
for the iPhone 5C, it is $300 more
than Google's flagship smartphone,
the LG Nexus 4, which sells for
$249 SIM-unlocked, contract-free.
And the iPhone 5C only has only a
four-inch screen, compared to the
Nexus 4.7-inch screen. The Nexus
also has a 768x1280 screen
resolution, meaningfully higher than
the iPhone 5C and 5S alike.
In another move of capitulation --
not just copying Nokia's design and
the age-old fingerprint sensor of
Windows laptops and Android
smartphones -- Apple went ahead
and copied Google's free
productivity suite: Word processor,
spreadsheet and presentation
software. This has been free from
Google for years: Google Docs and
Google Drive. Now it's free from
Apple too. But is it nearly as good
as Google's?
