So Lumumba, Nkruma, Martin Luther King ain't enough?
Curiousity and a little reading around would help to lever you out of ignorance. Take this as a start; Abacha phoned Collin Powell before his coup.
http://allafrica.com/stories/200906031093.html

Ask the question why Abacha who was not even head of state had Collin Powells number and why he could call at 2 a.m. You only call your closest buddies at 2 a.m.
the topic concerns NIGERIA. Even a retarded 10 year old should know that Nkrumah, Lumumba and MLK aren't nigerians. Do you bother to preview your posts to see if they pass the common sense test?
I do a lot of reading. I'm just not stupid enough to swallow conspiracy theories with no concrete proof.

These articles are high on entertainment and perilously short on facts. This should be the other wAy, at the barest minimum.
Coups didn't wreck Nigeria. Many millitary regimes worldwide have recorded better improveme ts than civillian rule. Nigerian greed and stupidity killed this country. Not from the leaders only, but from the generalpopulace.

lol. What do you people think happens when someone blows up a well head in the middle of a water body? later we'll hear people talk about pollution.

This is just a ploy to

1. Drive up the amnesty payment
2. provide an illusion of strength by the rag tag millitant group

Blowing up isolated well heads isn't bravery. Why don't they go after the local govt chairmen and Governors that bleed the states dry?

Hopefully, we can all lay down the swords and reason together. We dont have to fight because we disagree.

The fact that the Government burst this ring is an indication that it is not accepted by the government. People may practice it widely because of their stupidity and religious mentality but it does not mean that the government allows it.

Perhaps we should also castigate the UK because paedophilia is one of the greatest fears of every parent in the UK these days. The government also frowns upon it however and such acts are thoroughly investigated with perpetrators brought to book.

While we all should roundly condemn these nonsense, there is no reason to suggest, from that report, that the act is condoned by the government.
The Government shut it down simply because it was a prostitution ring. NOT because of any concerns of paedophilia. The Government has no qualms with octogenarians sexually abusing 11 year old girls, under the umbrella of 'arranged marriage'

There is no legal way a man will have sex with a minor in the UK. Stop making that daft comparison.

This country has never for once behaved as a nation and the behaviours of our so called representatives is, to say the least, appalling. Even if the derivative formula is pegged at 50% and other mineral deposits in the country are exploited, no state, I repeat, no state would look up to others for money. All states would be sufficiently funded. This country is so blessed and it remains a paradox that our leaders are focusing only on petroleum. Right from the time of Abacha, there has been a Ministry of Solid Mineral Deposits but till today nobody knows what they do in that Ministry. Gold is being exploited in South Africa, in Ghana and in other places on commercial basis yet we could not partner with the companies that are engaged in this business to come here and exploit ours too. Same for so many other mineral deposits like tin, iron ore, uranium, bauxite, limestone, talc, gypsum, lead, zinc, bentonite & baryte, bitumen, coal, kaolin, columbite, niobium, graphite, marble, thorium and gem stones like sapphire, ruby, aquamarine, emerald, tourmaline, topaz, garnet, amethyst; zircon, diamond, almandine, garnet, amethyst, and flourspar. In fact the minerals are too numerous. One thing that God has also done is to ensure that most of these minerals are the purest quality so much so that Nigeria's petroleum is so pure that its called sweet crude. If I may ask, what then is our problem that we keep on hammering on petroleum like fools?
#

And how do you know we've got commercially viable quantities of all these minerals you've mentioned? Just because there's Gold in ghana, do we take it as a given that we've got large gold deposits in Nigeria?

@Topic
These Senators are crazy! 50% derivation seems fair and may help ease the tensions in the Delta.

My point was, you were comparing Vista on your laptop to Windows 7 on your friend's PC.
When carrying out a test, you need to use the same base hardware to ensure there's a level playing ground. Got it?
Computers › Re: I Just Got An Hp Touchsmart Notebook Pc,i Can't Find The Bluetooth. Help! by texazzpete(m): 8:01pm On Jul 05, 2009
The highest end model is the Tx2, and it costs N180k in comp villa.
The TX series is plagued by hardware reliability issues. Users forums are often inundated with users complaining. I personally know three people with either motherboard failures, screen issues or Dvd rom stops working.

The hardware is typically a dual core AMD cpu clocked at 2.0 - 2Ghz. Not a match for the more powerful Core 2 Duos. also the graphics card is relatively weak for 3D gaming.
it's also rather heavy for a tablet, and the tablet features are not enough to justify the cost.

For the same amount, you can easily snag a far more powerful laptop Core 2 duo laptop with better reliability, bigger screen and more powerful hardware.
if you really want portability, the same dough can snag you a decent dell for N120k and an acer Aspire One netbook for 60k.

Just my two cents worth.

Lay off the pipe bro  please Lay off the pipe .
The thread title says "Govt. Bursts ‘sex Camp’ In Minna ". At no point in the above article did it say that the state govt encouraged this illegal procurement of kids for sex. I should have realised you peodophiles and religious bigots would congregate here as soon as your favorite pastimes was the topic of discussion.  Does Christianity also encourage sex with kids since most  vile internet domains are based in the West.
This topic should not be about religion, this topic is about the Police infiltrating a peodophile gang and arresting the culprits.

The above statement show you have insider knowledge cos no where in the post was the above said.
Lay off the pipe bro  please Lay off the pipe .
Unlike you, i use my brain creatively. And i think!
Such a sex haven for 10 - 12 yr females will not sell in the South of Nigeria. Why? Because it's not allowed. I look at the prevailing conditions why a man can easily think of having sex with a minor, and i see that it is legal in Northern Nigeria simply because of the predominant religion.
I don't care what the topic states. We're talking about issues in Nigeria that concern Nigerians. Should we then turn a blind eye to atrocities going on in the north simply because it's not on the topic?

Your point about web hosts that encourage paedophilia shows you up as a silly goose. We've said it over and over again, it is illegal and anyone caught does big time jail term. Can the same be said of what happens in Northern Nigeria?

there is no place in Christianity for child marriage and the sexual abuse of pre-pubescent girls. But we have it on tape where prominent Islamic clerics continue to condone such an act. Instead of acting like a human being, all you care about is desperately defending such daft ideas when living  creatures are bleeding their lives away in hospital beds.

You should have just stayed away instead of defending the indefensible. Scum.

@Tippy top, Lagosboy
You bloody cowards are desperately trying to focus only on the prostitution ring instead of facing the main charges. Why were the girls in high demand as prostitutes? isn't it because it is legal in the North to hold lustful thoughts towards children of 10 - 12 years?
You talk about paedophilia in the west. At least that's punishable by law, and paedophiles are regarded as the lowest of the low even by their fellow hardened criminals. In the northern Nigeria it is celebrated with fanfare when geriatric old men marry helpless 10 year old girls. Yet to you there's no clear distinction.

There have been links and articles showing the terrible, pathetic plight of many of these girls who are forced into these marriages. Yet you sit behind your computer and validate this savage practice. The video shows people validating their belief in this savage practice based on the teachings of the Quran and Islamic practice, yet you have the balls to try to weasel out of this?

You worthless vermin probably have child brides in your beds even as we speak.

@Inferis, bigrovar
Windows 7 is more optimized than Vista or Xp for touchscreens, end of story. There are a myriad of accessibility improvements that aren't tied to multi-touch alone.

bigrovar:
I tried Windows 7 somethings last december ,  and my experience with it was anything but Meh, didnt see any remarkable diff btw it and vista. but then my time on it was very short and the version i was on was pre beta, i have not had the had the opportunity or need to try it again. However most of the feed backs coming from people including the founder of ubuntu has described it as great. so i guess its a major improvement over vista. will i be using it anytime soon ,  not a chance in hell ,  this is not because i dont think its good enough ,  windows is just not my thing, for reasons i have discussed in the past.
I'm glad you finally admit that your hands-on review of Win 7 beta was critically flawed. Not only did you have a brief hands-on with it, you used it on a days old install with no control over what had been installed so far and you were comparing it with a vista installation on a different laptop. In science experiments you always need a control, which should preserve as much as possible the base conditions of the experimental hardware.
Glad you finally deign to admit the public's happiness with Windows 7. Did it have to take the Ubuntu guy's word before you finally believed?

don't get me wrong, i'm not trying to re-start an old quarrel. I have a friend (chxta) who feels the same as you do about OSS and i respect the fact that it's your personal choice. However, as a system administrator it is your duty to spend as much time with Windows 7 as possible so as to provide the best possible support. Windows 7 will be the best version of Windows EVER, and it extremely likely that that is what you'll be recommending to your clients that choose to stick with Windows OS.

PS: Windows 7 includes Powershell 2.0, an improved version of the original with better features. you can see details on the additions here

the antimalware "industry" for Windows is a billion dollar business.
the debate about the security of OSes (linux, Windows & OS X) has been on for a very long time. the seemingly more secure nature of Linux or Mac OS X is not because it attracts a few number of malware programmers, these OSes are by nature tight. well i won't go into technical here. Linux is deployed on a massive scale by large corporations at server and desktop levels. now, if i am a malware programmer, who should be my target? simple pc users like me and you who do no more than log on to nairaland to post?
Who's more likely to leave credit card and bank details lying about? Big corporations or the simple PC users you derisively refer to?

Politics › Incredible! Russia Nigeria Gas Partnership Thoughlessly Named Nigaz! by texazzpete(op): 7:11am On Jul 02, 2009
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2009/jun/30/russia-nigeria-gas-name-blunder

It probably seemed a good idea at the time. But Russia's attempt to create a joint gas venture with Nigeria is set to become one of the classic branding disasters of all time ‑ after the new company was named Nigaz.

The venture was agreed last week during a four-day trip by Russia's president Dmitry Medvedev to Africa. The deal between Russia's Gazprom and Nigeria's state oil company was supposed to show off the Kremlin's growing interest in Africa's energy reserves.

Instead, the venture is now likely to be remembered for all the wrong reasons ‑ as a memorable PR blunder, worse than Chevrolet's Nova, which failed to sell in South America because it translates as "doesn't go" in Spanish.

Alert users of Twitter first highlighted the unfortunate English connotations of Nigaz, which appears to have eluded Medevedev's Russian-speaking delegation.

Writing on Monday, shunty 75 observed: "Nigaz is the name for the new Gazprom Nigeria venture. They need a new PR outfit. NO WAY!! Haha!!" Other twitterers also derided the name.

An article in Brand Republic pointed out the obvious: that the name has "rather different connotations" for English-speakers.

It recalled other international branding mishaps including the Ford Pinto ‑ which in Brazil means small penis ‑ and the Pepsi slogan "come alive with the Pepsi generation". In Taiwan this rousing motto translated as "Pepsi will bring your ancestors back from the dead".

It is unclear why nobody alerted Medevedev to the blunder. But one possible explanation is that the offending word is still widely used in Russia, and was even famously employed by the poet Vladimir Mayokovsky in the 1920s.

The new company Nigaz plans to invest at least $2.5bn (£1.5bn) in oil and gas exploration and aims to build refineries, pipelines and gas power stations across Nigeria.

"We have a chance to become major energy partners," Medvedev declared last week following a meeting with Nigeria's presient Umaru Yar'Adua in the capital Abuja.
