i'm talking about what Robin Hood and Hezbollah did/do. Help the common man.

The Niger Delta leadership is the main cause of these issues. how can people b proudly talking about 'Youths' and 'gallant warriors' without talking about 'scholars'?

Encourage their youths to go to school. if these guys hadn't been too lazy to advance academically, the struggle to gain great influence in the E&P business would not have been so hard.
as it is, the vast majority of these guys qualify only for mid to low ranking jobs and menial work.

In a recent interview Edwin Clark refuted allegations that the Ijaw youths were too lazy to go to school, saying that people who battle soldiers cannot be lazy.

but anyone who graduated from a first-line university knows it's harder to go through school - with excellence - than to skulk around camps, playin god with dangerous weapons.

Hezbollah in lebanon can be described a millitant organization. they receive love and widespread support from civillians because they
1. Build schools
2. Run Hospitals
3. keep the peace
4. Provide loans and assistance to their people.

The legend of Robin Hood said he stole from the rich to feed the poor.

Now my question is, apart from bringing disrepute to the entire Niger Delta, what have these ND genuine millitants done?
One of the main leaders of the 'genuine' millitant leadershit, Chief Ekpemupolo (aka Tom Polo) has a palatial abode in the creeks. The sums Asari and henry Okah (aka Jomo Gbomo) were quoted as talking about were in the hundreds of millions.
What of the ordinary ND people

Your Ijaw leaders are always to be found mouthing off, but what have they done to ameliorate the suffering of their people with their stupendous wealth?

When they say communities lack water, why not help with a borehole?
If someone could go into an army cantonment with N120 million to purchase arms, why not use the money to better their people?
Politics › Re: Pictures From Niger Delta by texazzpete(m): 8:42am On Jan 31, 2008

Armed militants in the early hours of yesterdayinvaded the premises of Al-Marine Engineering atBorokiri Port Harcourt and carted away unspecifiednumber of outboard boat engines and shot a civilian.
However, no life was lost in the attack where heavyweapons like dynamites were deployed by the invaderswho operated for nearly two hours before the men ofthe Joint Task Force arrived to dislodge them.
Eyewitness accounts recounted how at about 12.30am,some hoodlums invaded the yard from Borokiriwaterfront and fired sporadically in the air beforeforcing their way into the boat building company closeto the naval base.
They were said to have shot the employee of thecompany in the hand that has also been rushed to anundisclosed hospital for treatment before ransackingall the offices and showroom of the company from wherethey took away the heavy equipment, engines andaccessories.
Contacted, Police Public Relations Officer in theState, Mrs. Ireju Barasua confirmed the attack butsaid they were yet to collate the number of itemstaken by the hoodlums. She corroborated the accountthat no life was lost in the incident.
Also, Lt. Colonel Musa Sagir, Spokesperson of JTFconfirmed that the attackers came from the waterfrontbut immediately his men got wind of the attack, theyrushed to the point and put the militants to flight.
However, residents of the area claim that the JTF onlyarrived after the criminals had carted their lootwhich includes unspecified amount of money in cash.

These are the 'boys' fighting for the 'freedom and emancipation' of the Niger Delta abi? What stopped them from using money acquired from their stealing bunkering operations to purchase these engines (which they no doubt wish to use to shore up their lucrative bunkering and piracy activities?

Don't be deceived by their apologists here on Nairaland (willy*2, ono et al). these guys are criminals, pure and simple.

1. They're stunning! (for a mobile device)
2. The N95 uses a similar graphics chip (Power VR MBX) with the iphone, so drooling over impressive graphics on the N95 is a nice way to anticipate the kinda games i'll play on my phone once apple gets its act together and releases the SDK

The cardinal issue is how people will beleive anything their pastors tell 'em. In my 100L in uni one deeper life came out accusing catholics of worshipping Nimrod.

I have no business with people who shelled out 100k for the iPhone. i bought mine $350 direct from Apple.com's online store. With the addition of tax this came to about 47k NGN.
Unlocked iphones may weigh in at $500 on ebay. The N95 costs $700, easily $200 more than the iphone'sblack market unlocked price.

Then again, i still feel people who shelled out N100k for their iphones still got value for their money. You see, you're making the error of assuming only a symbian phone is worth anything. people were quite willing, afterall, to buy the Nokia 8800 series for over 120k at launch, weren't they?
many people out there love the iphone as an all in one, convergence device. YOU feel the iphone isn't worth it since you can't run your precious .sis files on it. many other people don't even give a damn about symbian or third party apps.

As to your earlier question, we aren't talking about future versions of iPhones here. I never stated i'd spend all my cash on future iterations of the iPhone. I'm looking at phone hardware in general, and i know something different and original when i see it.

Sports › Re: Berti Vogts Must Go by texazzpete(m): 6:14pm On Jan 27, 2008
Let's stop being silly here
We cast away the indigenous coaches because we felt - and still feel - that the Bronze medal wasn't good enough for us. We saw inept coaching at play, we saw coaches making team selections based on a myriad of factors, with pressure from nigerian bigshots being the highest.

I will always advocate a foeign coach, because no Nigerian coach will ever be immune to lobbying from the people that pay his salary. A decent, first rate foreign coach is far more likely to deliver results. We all saw what Keshi did in Togo, dropping Adebayor in the Nation's Cup simply because the young man refused to allow him become his agent for the arsenal move.

For me, we Nigerians should share the blame for the dismal performances put up by the Eagles. For years, while other african countries have been perfecting defence splitting quick runs and fast, attacking football, we Nigerians have been crowing about our 'Nigerian style' and how we 'Slow the game down'. Now we are forced to watch enviously as teams like Egypt and Cameroun (not to mention Ivory Coast sef0 turnon the blitzkrieg. Now all we are reduced to is aimless long balls, players that amble wildly around the pitch hoping for a lucky break to score an unlikely goal.

Against ivory Coast, not once did i see any counter attack from our boys. Instead our players happily hold the ball until the ivorien defence is fully restored and rested, before making any move to attack.

berti vogts cannot teach our players how to take a shot. these guys are in their twenties and thirties, how do you cope with strikers that insist on playing weak, ground shots in the general direction of the goal? Will Berti Vogts teach yakubu and martins how to shoot accurately?

For years we've emphasized slowness and individual skill (okocha) over the usually more effective speed and skill combination. Now we're paying the price.

FYI, the Web browser in S60 3rd edition devices is more CSS compliant than the Safari on the iPhone.
Where exactly did that statement come from? After engadget, PCworld, CNET and the New York Times called Mobile Safari "the best browser in a handheld device" you expect us to believe that?

naijafan:
iPod?! We've got a music player on S60 3rd edition devices as well. With the Navi-wheel in the N81, it becomes an iPod in your hands.
My Girlfriend's Samsung u700 has a wheel on it. it doesn't nearly make it an iPod. The 'Navi-wheel' in the N81 is useful, yes, but it still doesnt capture the ease of use of the standard ipod clickwheel. However, that's a moot point because the iPhone's interface is like no other iPod before it, and it's rated as the best ipod ever. FACT.

naijafan:
Did you just say multi-touch huh A larger percentage of mobile phone users prefer to use their handhelds with one hand. Multitouch was necessary as the iPhone had just one key.
Youtube?! We have emTube for S60 3rd edition devices.
Talking about combining iPod, a web browser and a phone in the same device, we've seen that since the days of the good old N91.
Multitouch doesn't mean 'touchscreen'. Even chinese phones have touch screens. The iphone screen can accept and track multiple simultaneous touch-based inputs on the screen. it's easy to use the iPhone one-handed.
emtube plays Youtube videos from the Youtube website. the Youtube videos the iphone plays were specially converted for the iphone by Youtube, ensuring far better quality than that delivered by emtube. Don't even get me started on the resolution.

naijafan:
Talking about combining iPod, a web browser and a phone in the same device, we've seen that since the days of the good old N91.

If i may ask, what exactly are you talking about?
No. We've seen a music player, web browser and phone combination long before even the days of the nokia 3650. Hell, even chinese phones do all that. What differs is the QUALITY. that's what i'm talking about

naijafan:
If you don't knw yet, try exploring the GPS on an N95 or N82 for example. Remember to install Google Maps. When u're done with that, install Nokia Sports Tracker, then activate it and go on a journey. Get back home and export that data to KML. Open with Google Earth on your system and see wats up. And yea, all that in Nigeria.

Heck, coming to imaging, even the N70 is an upgrade to the iPhone wit the led flash and better picture quality. tongue
. . .And the point of tracking where you've been is? The more advertised uses of the N95 GPS is for route navigation and other useful stuff like finding out locations of Petrol Stations, Hospitals, etc. All these are next to useless in Nigeria.

It's not having a 5MP camera that counts. On your phone screen, the quality doesn't stand out. Iphone users can zoom and pan their images easily. Young professionals prefer to carry around a digital camera anyways.
Politics › Re: Mystery Of Israel's Secret Uranium Bomb :alarm Over Radioactive Legacy Left By A by texazzpete(m): 3:25pm On Jan 25, 2008
One more. . .

http://www.laka.org/info/publicaties/vu/2006-lebanon-eng.html

Press release, Amsterdam, 12th October, 2006
Depleted Uranium (DU) munitions used in Lebanon?

During and after the 33-days war in Lebanon the story was rumoured that the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) should have used DU antitank shells or other types of munitions made from DU. The attention was especially focussed on the article "Scientists suspect Israeli arms used in South contain radioactive matter" by Mohammed Zaatari in the Daily Star (August 21, 2006) in which nuclear physicist Dr. Ali Kobeissi, a member of the Lebanese National Council for Scientific Research said that a crater caused by an Israeli munition in Khiam contained "a high degree of unidentified radioactive materials."
Many people within the movement against uranium weapons considered Kobeissi's statements as a "piece of evidence" for the alleged use of DU by the IDF.
In order to verify or to falsify the assertions that DU has been used, Henk van der Keur from the Laka Foundation brought a visit to Lebanon as part of a delegation from the Amsterdam based organisation Dromen, Denk, Durven, Doen (Dreaming, Thinking, to Dare, to Do), among others working on human rights issues and questions on the Middle East.

On September 25 Van der keur visited Dr. Kobeissi in Nabatiyeh. Dr. Kobeissi told that he tested some deep pits made by Israeli weapons with a geiger counter from a local scrap dealer and that his results indicated the presence of uranium. He stressed that he has never said 'depleted uranium' and regretted the political bickerings between different sects. He measured 50 nanosievert (nSv) per hour in the outside rim of the pits and 300 nSv in the heart of most pits with the exception of one which measured 800 nsV/h. He also declared that these dose rates in the pits decreased considerably day by day. On the suggestion that these higher measures could be due to the concentration of uranium in the ash ('concentrated background radiation from the burnt material') he agreed that this possibility is highly likely.

At his home Kobeissi had collected tens of samples from shrapnel and soil from more than 50 different places. None of these samples measured a higher radiation dose rate than the background radiation dose rate. The samples were measured with a calibrated geiger counter from Laka Foundation.

Finally there is no reason to assume that the IDF has used DU antitank shells. Firstly there were no armored targets in Lebanon and secondly the Mine clearance teams - present on many places in the south of Lebanon, especially because of the enormous abundance of cluster bombs - haven't found any spent DU antitank shells.

According to Peter Boeckhart, who is in charge for making reports in post-conflict areas for Human Rights Watch, only a few bunker busters have been used in Lebanon (on bridges), but he couldn't tell where. No chance that these munitions were equiped with a load of DU. Instead of bunker buster types of munitions Boeckhart said that the use of serial bombing was much more seen. A mosque in Beirut was bombed with a load of more than 20 tons by serial bombing.

In short, there is no reason to believe that DU weaponry has been used by Israel during the July/August 2006 war.
