Policewoman: How complete is Okporo road? Pls lets be objective here. As for the East west road, I agree with you that the F.G should allow Rivers state to construct their own portion because truly, passing there is just a big nightmare. From tank, up to Eliozu bridge.

The east west road construction is ongoing massively. I just passed there about 3 weeks ago. They are constructing about 4 bridges at the same time. The PH side is progressing well. The problem I think was that they didnt get funding on time and that minister was messing around initially. I think he has sat up now and work is moving at a better speed

Policewoman: O.K o, let me agree with you Okija. But last time I crossed that slaughter bridge I learnt it was shaking and in serious need of repairs. Something also needs to be done to that YKC/slaughter/woji axis. The traffic is killing. Ehen, that Iwofe road all the way to eagle cement and beyond, is it in Amaechi's plan at all?

Amaechi cannot be perfect just like every human being. I can list several areas he is messing up too. But I did state categorically in a thread 3 days ago that he has A1 in education. In terms of design of the schools, they are better than Akwa Ibom schools but in terms of the resources made available and childrens welfare, Akwa Ibom is slightly better.

Symphony007: my dear, these schools are free, not only that, the government provides kids with free uniform, free books, free sandal, bags, and even lunch...the launch of this schools are making private schools up their game because they are loosing buisness!

Yes! That is how we roll in PDP south south! Akwa Ibom, River, Cross Rivers

Remaining our Delta man to straighten up or we go push am out! Dickson of Bayelsa is coming up too. He has started well. Hopefully he will do the right thing unlike that drug sniffing Sylva guy!

Politics / Zoning Will Divide Nigeria, Says Tinubu (in 2010) by thelastPope(m): 5:44pm On Jun 16, 2013
Bola Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos State and a leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), on Thursday, criticised the selection formula for presidential candidates adopted by the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), describing the act as one "that promotes division" in the country.

Mr Tinubu, during an interview with correspondents at the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos, said that though the leaders claim to be united in the race for one Nigeria, their actions speak otherwise, adding that the ACN will not adopt the style adopted by the PDP. "Ethnicity, zoning and the likes, that is silly for this country," he said. "My party doesn't believe in it; what the party says is that the candidate can come from anywhere. Why do you continue to promote division in this country? They are not good leaders, they are just like: you know all those people who are being paraded in the press today as nationalists, while they are not. Yesterday, they were calling for unity, united Nigeria, and all of that; but today they call for zoning. What are you preaching? Division, contradiction, in fact they should go and retire."

Mr Tinubu said that the leaders should vacate office for they have betrayed the trust reposed in them by the masses, adding that Nigeria needs a transformational leader. "They should go home and sleep," he said. "They are like fathers stealing from their baby's milk. There must be a generational change and transformation of this country. These people are tired; they've been roaming about. All of them put together, if they have any vision that they want to promote, they are already members of the Council of State, they are accessible to the President, whoever he is, they should go and articulate that vision and give him the advice; not to come back and confuse and consume our own heritage."

Denies signing advertorial

Asked if he was in support of the Southern Governors' Forum's clamour for a southern president, as published in an advertorial in a national daily on Thursday, Mr Tinubu said that the advertorial was "fraud." "Me? Which paper? ... I'm not Obasanjo now, that is fraud," he said. "I have not attended any meeting. I did not. At first when I formed the Southern Governors' Forum, it was purposely geared towards true federalism and fiscal federalism, and I articulated that on several occasions and I am still standing on that ground. I don't want to be a defective politician; I don't want to see Nigeria from the prism of North and South dichotomy. We got our independence collectively together sitting down. We grafted and adopted federal constitution, we don't bypass that. I'm not like some politicians who appear in the garment and the regalia of national politics yesterday and because of today, they become ethnic jingoist."

Politics / Roads Collapse In Ogun, Communities Moan by thelastPope(m): 10:42am On Jun 16, 2013
THOUGH the expression of displeasure on the terrible state of roads in Ogun State was a hallmark of the animated campaign that landed him in the Government House, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta, Ogun State, the view of many residents of the communities is that Governor Ibikunle Amosun has failed to fix the roads.

They are groaning that two years after, the situation appears to have worsened. In one of his comments, while expressing his disgust with the state of the roads, Amosun had said: "Those in Mowe, Olambe, Agbado and Ijoko won't agree that there is government in the state. In Yewa, their roads are in terrible state.

Abeokuta roads are in a bad state. The same with Ijebu Ode roads. It is portholes everywhere. It appears that probably there is no government in Ogun State.

Then a candidate, Amosun lamented the situation, adding that any responsible governor would not allow any federal road being used by his people to be in state disrepair.
But to the chagrin of every citizen in the state, who had nursed high hopes that a government had come to bail them out, the pitiable condition of their road network remains, going from bad to worse as many of the communities mentioned by Governor Amosun are still gasping and writhing in the throes of impassable roads.

From Ojodu Abiodun, Ishasi, Denro, Akute, Olambe, Agbado, Ijoko, Ope Ilu, Ogba Ayo to Sango, it is litany of woes regarding roads as citizens continue to grieve, agonize and complain or bad roads. Many inhabitants of Sango, Alagbole and Akute said the governor's exploit since assuming office so far in road construction across the state has been concentrated on Abeokuta, the state capital, and perhaps, two or three other towns near the state capital, while other communities languish in utter neglect.

A commercial tricyclist, Idowu Salami, who plies Ishasi/Denro road, corroborated the people's concern, saying, "Weve heard that our governor is working in other areas like Abeokuta, out we also voted for him here, so he should come and repair our roads in Ishasi, and Denro. He came here before election, promising to repair our roads but he has spent a little more than two years now, yet we have not seen anything. I don't know why they don't allow Lagos state to take over this area."

Buttressing Salami's view, Secretary General, Alhaji Ahmed Kareem, Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), Akute Motor Park, acknowledged that the
Povernor is performing well. le said, "He constructed a- six-lane road in Imeko/Ayetoro to the border area, likewise Ijebu/ Ijebu Ode over high bridge, but we've not seen his hand here. Rain has started falling, the Akute roundabout is a no-go area. It is always full of water whenever rain falls, so we need to feel his impact here too."

According to a commercial motorcyclist Bayo Akande who plies Akute/Olambe road to Tipper Garage, Onibudo, "The government of Amosun should now that it is the legacy he leaves behind that we will remember him for. He came to Olambe when he was campaigning and promised us that the road would be repaired but up till now, the Jolasco area of Olambe to Olambe Junction is a trouble for us," he lamented. Yet, according to Akande, the governor quickly graded a portion of the road that leads to is friend's house who recently celebrated his mother's burial ceremony in Onibudo, Tipper Garage.

Maltina/Plaza road that leads to Adalemo in Sango is totally closed down due to its
Traffic... Ogun style deplorable condition, while residents have abandoned their houses, as the erosion flowing from Ipamesan community, the other flowing from Plaza junction along Ijoko road, and the one flowing from Oyede community which meet at a narrow culvert that leads to Lagos/Abeokuta Expressway, has blocked Plaza/Maltina road that leads to Adalemo near Gate Way Hotel towards Toll Gate.

Trie Ijoko/Ope Ilu road is completely an eyesore. As the rainy season sets in, people plying this road are gearing up for hardship as it becomes completely waterlogged, making motorists and other road users to swim across like fish. Their condition will aggravate, going by the prediction oftorrential rain this year by Metrologists.

The heavy rain will mutilate the road due to improper channellization, and further subject commuters to excruciating conditions as they will be forced to cough out sky-high transport fares charged by the drivers, while vehicles too will get damaged, leaving them to be abandoned.

A driver Godwin I kechukwu, who plies Agbado/Ijoko road, the hope of repairing the road in this political dispensation is lost as e dismissed the possibility of government ever looking tneir way this year. He lamented further, "Anytime it rains I cannot pass through the road but we are praying for the government to remember us."

One road user confided in The Nigerian Compass that aside complaining and saying their minds whenever being asked, the indigenes in these areas had made several efforts to write letters every now and then to the state government but all appeals had fallen on deaf ear.

It could be remembered that Governor Amosun started well at the wake of his administrations, cutting the picture of a governor that will hurriedly and quickly repair many damaged roads tnat litter the state. The first step he took was to trek round major areas that are plagued by bad roads.

It could also be recalled that one of such on-the-spot inspections took him to Sango-Ota, where he trekked several kilometres while inspecting some troubled roads. Other
f)laces inspected were Agbado, joko, Ota, and many others to assess the extent of the damage. There were also reports that ne had sent some of his aides earlier to assess the level of the trouble of those roads before he went on his own.

After the assessment, he went into action and started by ordering the repair of the bad portions of Lagos/Ibadan Expressway in Mowe, opposite the Redemption Camp of the Redeemed Christian Church of God. The Ogun State Commissioner for Works, Architect Lekan Adegbite, visited the portion and said that Governor Amosun was not happy at the state of the road and had decided to effect the repair that also saw a major drainage being constructed to ensure durability of the bad portion with or without the concessionaire, Bi-Courtney. The governor also ordered the repair of Joju Garage, Dalemo, and Toll Gate.

Governor Amosun said recently while giving his stewardship account at the end of his two years tenure in office that his government had to borrow from banks and pay back in order to repair roads.

He said the Federal Government had declined assisting him in repairing federal roads within the state, saying they gave excuse that they could not fund a-four-lane
road. However, public affairs analysts in the state are of the opinion that if the Federal Government cannot fund a-four-lane road, it should be able to financea-two-laneroad.

However, one of the roads that needs urgent attention is Alagbole/Akute road. The Alagbole/Akute road is manageable except the notorious hold-up that makes traffic a nerve-racking experience there. One road user said efforts should be made to contain the flood that always takes over the bridge at Odo Eran during the rainy season.

Also the Ajuwon/Akute road needs attention of the government. Recently, drainage was constructed along this road, which some said, was facilitated by MTN, nevertheless, the road requires more than this. The road that links Olambe to Akeredolu, especially the portion from Olambe junction, is horrendous, likewise the Denro /Ishasi road which links Akute, and many other such roads.

A member of Ogun State House of Assembly, while complaining about the bad state of the road in the state sometimes ago, made a salient point by saying that many of the roads were constructed with substandard materials, advising that efforts should be made to construct quality roads that can stand the test of time.

Perhaps, the remaining sun in the sky is enough to dry the clothe for Ogun State government, since it still has some years left before it completes its tenure. The affected communities hope that the Amosun-led government could still cover enough ground in repairing the bad roads scattered across the Gateway State.

Politics / Re: Have You Ever Meet Someone That Live Below $1 Per Day? by thelastPope(m): 10:36am On Jun 16, 2013
Hardfact: Don't let your imaginations deceive you. That's one hard part of reality of the Nigerian situation you may have to deal with. As at when that statement was made it was more than true. In truth poverty is a reality.

The issues is not poverty. The issue is the claim that people live on $1 a day. Poverty is a worldwide thing, not a Nigerian thing. If you want to see the worst kind of poverty, go to china and india. Most Nigerians can afford at least 2 meals a day. It might not be very sumptuous meals, but most can afford it. Even when the report was written it was a lie. If Most Nigerian live on $1 a day, you would have been seeing a lot of kwashiorkor cases around you like sudan or Ethiopia. How many people around you live on a $1 a day? How many times do you see in the news, people dying of hunger in Nigeria?
Politics / Re: Have You Ever Meet Someone That Live Below $1 Per Day? by thelastPope(m): 10:32am On Jun 16, 2013
This lie has been debunked over and over again. I wonder why you lot keep bringing it back. It is a fat lie. even the average beggar makes at least 1000 to 2000 per day and the man, his wife and children all beg separately so the argument that the man has to feed his family is false and baseless. The whole family always works. There is no fanily where only the man works and the rest of the family wait at home for him to bring money to them.

A bag of pure water in 60 naira from the truck drivers. It contains 20 sachets. At 10 naira each, you make a profit of 140 per bag. A woman by the road side who sells 10 bags a day, makes 1400. That is not the only thing she normally sells. She also sells othe rstuff like candy, biscuits, cigarettes, etc.

A dirt disposal guy, called kolekole, makes a minimum of 700 to 100 per trip. A bag of dirt is around 100 naira and the cart can tale up to 8 to 10 bags, depending on the contents. This guy can make several trips in a day. The council guys will charge him about 100 to 200 per trip so he still goes away with around 500 per trip. if he does 5 trips from morning to evening, he makes 2500.

A man doing daily labor as a bricklayer, plumber, etc collects between 1200 and 2500 a day.

All these people I mentioned are amongst the lowest earners in the society. Their families also work. They dont sit at home waiting for the man to bring money. His daugthers work as sales girls in various places. He sons work as mechanics, truck loading guys. etc. They all earn money. Sometimes, his family members earn more than him

Stop spreading these lies. There is poverty no doubt but no one lives on $1 a day.

You cant even use the almajiri as an example. The almajiri is not a regular Nigerian. They are an anomaly created from a system of feudal repression. These lies were concated by NGOs and government agencies to extort monies from international donors.

Politics / PRESIDENCY: Why North Should Wait Till 2027, By Ogbemudia by thelastPope(m): 10:01am On Jun 16, 2013
BY SIMON EBEGBULEM, Benin City

Dr Samuel Ogbemudia, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees, is an old war horse in politics. The time- two former governor of the old Bendel State has been abroad for medical check-up and broke his silence on political issues to Sunday Vanguard last Wednesday. While declaring the support of the leaders of the South-south for second term for President Goodluck Jonathan, the former military tactician explained why the North is not entitled to the presidency until 2027.
And contrary to the statement by the PDP that Governor Adams Oshiomhole begged to join the party prior to the 2007 and 2012 governorship election in Edo State, Ogbemudia disclosed how he led some PDP leaders to appeal to Oshiomhole to join the party, but the plea was turned down by the former labour leader. He spoke on other national issues.
Excerpts:

While you were away, Nigeria celebrated Democracy Day. How do you assess our democracy so far?
The assessment one can give is that it has been smooth, in the sense that everyone in Nigeria today appreciates democracy. Democracy means freedom, but freedom has its own obligations. I am enjoying democracy. We have made tremendous progress.

But Nigerians are worried that despite our resources, government is unable to give us steady power supply and employment opportunities for the youths among other basic things?
Yes, those who are worried are people who do not know the problems government faces. To lay one line that will carry eleven KVA from Delta to Sokoto or Maiduguri costs fortunes, and it is more than anything a state can produce. So one must first of all appreciate the enormity of the problems facing the Federal Government and then try to encourage it to do more. I know that the purpose of opposition is to pressurize the government to do more, but sometimes they get it wrong. Once in a while, they should say, ’Yes, the President is trying in some areas but can do more’; that will encourage him.

Nigeria Governors Forum crisis
The Governors Forum, according to experts, is not in the Constitution, but, as far as I am concerned, whether it is in the Constitution or not, it has come to stay. When five people come together to form a group, it may not be in the Constitution but they feel it is the right thing. The governors are the custodians of the democratic votes, they are the ones running the states, they are supposed to be the chief security officers of their states. So if you want their cooperation, you implore them to help you, talk to them like brothers, talk to them like friends, talk in a way that will encourage them to help you the more. But if anybody has succeeded in intimidating someone to do what he likes, I don’t think the Governors Forum is the one that can be intimidated to do what game they want them to play. So it is through negotiation, Nigeria has developed a language called dialogue, so they should dialogue. The President should be the arbiter, he should not support any one. He should call the two warring factions together and settle the problem. I expect the President to settle the issues so that the governors don’t break into factions, otherwise the 2015 elections will not be smooth.

General Ogbemudia
What is your position on Chief Tony Anenih’s call for automatic ticket to PDP governors and the President?
Well Tony Anenih has spoken his mind. It is left for the electorate in each state to decide whether the governor has performed to deserve a return ticket. You cannot come from Edo State to tell the man in Kaura Namoda that his governor has done well. He will not believe you if he has not performed well.

State of emergency in three states
I think the logical conclusion is that the state of emergency is necessary. But my personal view is that if the governors have been allowed to perform their functions as chief security officers, there would not have been need for the state of emergency. They don’t have the apparatus available to the Federal Government, if the Federal Government had allowed the governors to do their jobs and given them all the facilities they needed, this emergency would have been unnecessary. So I expect the Federal Government to allow the governors to function effectively as the chief security officers of their state after the emergency. The governors should get all the powers that accompany being their respective states chief security officers.

But some people attribute the insurgency to the tussle for the 2015 presidency between the North and the South.
My view is that we in the South-south want Jonathan to continue in power beyond 2015. The North is equally interested in the presidency. We should sit down and talk. If we talk, four years will not do any harm to anybody; the matter can be resolved. The South-west came in, in 1999 and served for eight years. The South-south should also do eight years. And the truth is that the South-east is also entitled to the presidency when the South-south must have finished its eight years.

Does that mean North should not think about power returning to them until sometime around 2027?
Absolutely

Message to Nigerians
We have come a long way from 1914 to 2013; during those years, we passed through thick and thin and the lesson that we ought to have learnt is that we needed to work together as a team with all hands on deck to achieve our ultimate goal. It is still not late, the people should cooperate with the government of the day, four years in the life of a nation is nothing, but, in the life of a person, it means a lot. For this nation to survive, we all need to put all hands on deck and we should all support the government of the day.

Back to Edo, you have been passionate about a Benin man becoming the governor after Oshiomhole. Is that where you still stand?
I belong to the group that strongly supports the Benin agenda, I also belong to the group that wants the candidate picked on merit to serve at Osadebey Avenue, to continue the good job Oshiomhole has done. So if a Benin man is the one that will do it, so be it. But all Binis are interested and want a Benin man to be the next governor because they think they are not receiving their due share, they are being marginalized and I hold the same opinion and we should meet and again talk at a round table, there will be no hidden agenda.

Your party, the PDP, has been in trouble in the hands of the Adams Oshiomhole- led ACN in the state. What is the way forward for the party?
The PDP requires no advice now because they already know that united they stand, divided they remain where they are. So they are working towards bringing everybody on board. That is why I led a delegation of Senator Oyofo, Dr Willie Ogbeide and three others to persuade Oshiomhole to come to PDP and he told us that if he joined PDP, his friends in the media will kill him.

I was therefore embarrassed when I heard that the PDP said he came to them and they rejected him. The answer to the PDP challenge in Edo lies in the leaders coming together, embrace internal democracy and re-organize their management of victory.

maasoap: Here we go again. Yorubas didnt come out to vote, yet they came out to vote for Fashola in Ekiti, Oyo, Ondo, Ogun and Kwara States on the day of presidential election. Wow! Nobody is derailing the thread here, I am just trying to let you realise that your summation is totally and completely wrong.

Open another thread and I will gladly educate you there...thatz all

You said "massively" voted and I said you are wrong. Open another thread and I will further straighten you up!

I feel sorry for how some Nigerians now exemplify the concept of "Stockholm syndrome" more than others in the world today. How many nations do you know where leaders hypocritically ask a very poor and ultra-dehumanised people to make sacrifices while they live hedonistically like Roman emperors?

And I replied:

thelastpope:
Where in the statement did GEJ say the statement was for only poor people? You have become very senile. I suspect old age is catching up with you. The call was to Nigerians, not poor people. Or is Nigeria only made up of poor people? You are not very intelligent honestly. SMH for you!

And we have been looking for you since then............still searching

maasoap: If what you typed here is very true, then it would be very unjust on your part not to have asked yourself a simple question on why is this so. Was it not the same Yorubas that massively voted for him in 2011?

Look, lets not derail the thread, but for the records, Yorubas did not massively vote for him in 2011. They mostly sat in their houses. They came out for Fashola. Go check the records. If you want to debate that, open a new thread and let me know. cheers

whitecat007: You and your people pressed for the "tribalism and partisan sword" to be brought out in the first place

I remember when he came out here to shoot some of our messages down in your people's favor and we did not call him a sellout. I am glad your baby is stretching out the hand to be carried with.

Now that you have successfully pushed away those who tried to be neutral on Nairaland into corner, now imagine millions in real life who have to deal with you guys daily. I just know if there is going to be a war in Nigeria, it will make Biafra war look like a walk in the park, cos you have created silent monsters in your hosts.

If you hate me and insist on living with me then I will sleep with one eye open and the deadliest weapons I can lay my hands on

What in the world have you said now? Which kind free education be dis sef! SMH

Lordlexy: Gbawe, i don't know u from adam, but truely u are a blessing to our generation. Mature, articulate, objective, responsible etc keep up bro, nd pls avoid d likes of thelastpost he doesn't deserve ur interlectualism.

You mean your definition of mature, articulate, responsible is the agbero, gutter language posts without meaning that he has been spewing from page 1? I see.... cheesy

Lordlexy: well, in as much as i do not agree wit name calling, i believe majority are simply venting their anger on d president 4 leaving up to expection, because d traces of vices in our society today is a reflection of bad leadership. Btw, leave Gbawe alone, he remains d most interlectual n objective.

Who is majority! You seem to confuse those who like to shout loudest with the word "majority". Please dont confuse the 2. Accroding to the so called "majority" some weeks back, the people of Borno state were very angry with GEJ for the SOE. But the last channels video showed something completely different. Infact, the Borno people were very grateful to GEJ for the SOE. A man just handed his son to the JTF! That is is complete contrast to what people like Gbawe have been shouting. So correct yourself, they are not majority. They are an insignificant bunch from Alausa! They just shout the loudest, thats all. Gbawe doesnt even understand the meaning of objectity except, by objective, you mean insulting everything outside the south west and praising Fashola and Aregebesola to high heavens! He is a confirmed bigot and agbero!

Gbawe:

This is what you and others boil down to. Nothing but sad, pathetic, ill-exposed and ethnocentric bigots. You will never dispute the logic in the argument of others yet you will foolishly play the ethnic card at every excuse. You are nothing but a divisive and nauseating creature of hate who is preventing Nigerians coming together to see and appreciate what must be seen and appreciated for the betterment of our Nation. Did the Yorubas force David Cameron, the leader of one of the wealthiest nations on earth, to make the sacrifice he did below? Did we force his Nigerians counterpart, the leader of one of the poorest nation on earth, to buy more planes to add to a profligately bloated fleet while Nigerians are starving? You are a disgraceful and tribalistic joker !!! A disgrace to education and decency!!! When has GEJ done anything to what is illustrated below you repellent and tribalistic tw1t !!!!

Keep it coming...the tout and agbero way! Yeah, keep it coming...

And when you are done, respond to my posts above. I see you have docked from your blunders and confusion and are trying to find a getaway. I wont give you that opportunity. I do not need to stress how much of a bigot you are on every thread. You always do a pretty good job of that. I will not come down to your gutter language level. I am too big for that. sorry

My posts upstairs are still unreplied. Take a deep breath, in-out, and do the needful or just crawl under the carpet if you cant, I will understand!

Adex097: ITS OFFICIAL!!!!
Everybody hates GEJ.
Even when this man says/do the right thing, most Nigerians are still gonna throw insults at him.
WHY- *He has failed us
* He fooled us
* He cajoled us and stole our vote
*He betrayed our trust for him
* He gave empty promises
* He behaves like a saint but we all know who he really his.

@all GEJ apologist, do you think Nigerians derive pleasure in insulting their leaders?
The answer is NO #NAIJARIANS ARE VEXING#

Most Nigerians? Keep deluding yourself! 80% of all of you that are insulting him here are Yoruba! We are fully aware of that! Even the other 20% are mostly people from other tribes who have lived in the SW all their lives. It is a known pattern. SMH for you
