chronique: Maybe you could start up by being a back-up artiste to someone else, and you could follow him or her around to perform at gigs. With time, you might get used to it. Stage fright isn't something that goes away completely for every artiste. Even the big superstars still suffer from it from time to time. I once watched Fat Joe do the sign of the cross at the back stage while He was being called up to perform, and He ran up stage to do His thing. Why do you think so established acts do lots of alcohol before stepping on stage? Don't let the stage fright get to you for now. Focus on getting yourself in the mix and when the time to perform comes, you'd sort that out. What about having a good melody and rhythm as ds are d mkst important aspect of music. |

One 6" block is about 95-120Naira depending on area, while 9" block is 140-160naira depending on area you're purchasing it. But you could easily pick up this bottles from clubs, beer parlours, hotels in hundreds at very minimal cost and these places would gladly give you even extra (plus some cash too if you ask) thinking you're disposing their wastes (which you actually are)

Siena: The Mercedes-Benz C and E class are rot boxes. Mercedes-Benz is still fighting rust issues under warranty claims. You wouldn't expect a 2005 MB E320 to have rust, but that's exactly what's happening. Areas affected are:
001) Rear wheelarches. 002) Boot lid, around the lock, and below the licence plate. 003) Lower leading edge of the front doors. 004) Lower trailing edge of front wings. 005) Rear quarter panel around the fuel filler flap. 006) Leading edges of sunroof, where fitted. 007) Sunroof recess. 008) Front wings, around side repeater (before they were repositioned in door mirrors). 009) Rear valence (behind bumper). 010) Trailing edge of sills / rocker panels.
The last decent MB's were the W124 aka V-Boot. The current ones look pretty, but beauty's only skin deep. BMW had rust issues on the E30 and early E36, but they've gotten their act together, and things are looking good. BMW also look after their customers better. If your timing chain snaps, you get a new engine, no quibbles. MB will fight you, and drag it out. The most you'll get is a good-will gesture, but you'll still have to put your hand into your pocket for at least 50% of repair costs.
Parts availability? BMW still stock parts for the old 1602, and the Isotta! Not that's a marque that's keen to preserve their heritage. By early E36 you mean? |

chronique: There's a difference between being able to mimick artistes voices, and being able to sing. You can't start and sustain a music career by sounding like somebody or different people. Secondly, that you admire artistes doesn't mean you should sing too. Can you sing? Do you love music? Do you want to be an artiste? What genre do you love more? Are you ready to try it out? If your answer to all of these is yes, then give it a shot. If no,stay away from being an artiste, and just enjoy the songs you listen to. I love music like crazy, I got a good voice so I think I can sing, now the ish is perhaps for me to find out the perfect voice for me. The type of artiste I love to be in their shoes include R-Kelly, 2face, Wande Coal, Wizzy mixed with the playboy hardcore of Jesse Jagz & 50Cent. I wish to be anointed by all this people in my life. Rhyming get rich or die trying for the entire 75mins of the album with the same voice, TP-2.com of r-Kelly den as well etc. I just think my main problem is low self esteem dat results in stage fright & failure to launch out. Then I need to see if I can have a good melody and rhythm to tantalize the fans ears den lyrics finally. But first of all I need a mentor! |

chronique: This is strictly my opinion and I think I have been vindicated over the years in most cases.
I write to you all(upcoming artistes) with good intent and purpose. I write as someone who has been a music lover for so many years, someone who followed Nigerian music from the late 80's down to this very day, someone who listened to pioneering American hip-hop acts from the late 80's,someone who listened to music when we still had music genres like soul and funk, someone who basically likes and has a substantial knowledge of what good music should sound like. Music is a form of art,and good music should sound pleasing to the ears. The melody, lyrics and instrumental should be good and the overall production must be of the higest standard. I don't believe in people doing mediocre jobs and promoting it. Majority of the songs we listen to today on radio, should normally not even get airplay if standards are to be maintained. I know most people reading this piece, would eventually attack me and say stuffs like "you don't know what it means to go into the studio to record a track cos if you do,you'd know it's not easy". Before you guys slaughter me with that line, listen to this song with the following link:
http://www.datafilehost.com/d/2934af36
The above link was a rough demo I recorded at our studio when I was still neck deep into music production and entertainment years back. I was conducting an interview for an in-house producer we wanted to employ and I asked him to make the beat and produce me as an artiste. I did the entire song myself, and directed the production and we finished the whole song in about 12 or 16 hrs. Despite the fact that it sounds a lil bit appealing to some people,it's still not a standard job that can be played on radio. That being said, let's move on to the main issue(since you now know I've also had studio experience).
I decided to write this article cos over the years,I haven't seen any artiste blow up from nairaland. The only person who has blown up from here(nairaland) that I know,is Dee Tunes. I remember when He sent me his crew's demo several years back and after listening,I told him to stick to his production and shun rap(not like He was terribly bad though) which He did,and has now made a solid career from. He might not remeber me today, but I'm happy He has made a name for himself in production, and now charges 400k per track. Apart from Dee Tunes, all the other artistes who I had the opportunity to talk to and advice here on nairaland, are still where they are. Reason is that when you advice most artistes and you don't tell them they're the next best thing after fried rice, they tend to see you as their enemy. The average upcoming artiste thinks He's the best and when you point out their flaws, they find it difficult to accept. Most people don't like the truth and that's why we have so many trashy sounds on radio. A good song should have good lyrics that makes sense even if it's meant to be a danceable song. The fact that a crappy song like Terry G's "knack you akpako" made waves, doesn't make it the standard for an upcoming artiste to emulate. Artistes should also know learn to carve a niche for themselves and not just do what every other person is doing. There should be something extra that you're bringing to the table and as such, you need to put a lot of hardwork into your song writing and deliveries.
With the hype airforce1 has been enjoying on nairaland and His assurances to fans that He wouldn't disappoint them,I was expecting something better from him. All I can advice him to do,is to first and foremost, try to discover himself and find out what genre of music He is good at. This His "such a diva" song isn't it at all. That brings me back to a particular artiste who was hyped here some weeks back. The original poster even went as far as comparing him with Cannibus but when I listened up,song was quite wack. The dude can't even make the list of top 50 rappers in naija. Instead of people to tell him the truth, they kept typing "d.ope","drugz",etc. I can't remember who the artiste is again but I'd say this: "only those who want you to succeed will tell you the truth". There's no point believing sycophants who praise you cos they don't want to bruise your ego. Whatever is worth doing,is worth doing well.
Finally, all I'd say is this: be open to criticisms, learn your art very well, work on your lyrics, carve a niche for yourself and be yourself. Don't try to copy what others are doing;be original.
I hope someday, nairaland would produce it's first music superstar.
Cc: lalasticlala, ishilove, airmark OP what's your advise for me. I really have a good voice as I can rhyme and mimick any artise's voice. I always have d melody and beat playing in my brain which makes people marvel anytime I sing. I've had people compliment on my voice so much that when I was travelling back to lagos from Kano, a guy asked me if I was an artiste...I just laughed it off as I've always been complimented since childhood on my voice. He said I sound like someone who swallowed an MP3 player. There was even ds chik just admiring me 2ruout the journey sef. Another occurence happened when I was just singing one of wizzy's songs and d keke napep driver asked me when is my album coming out..even in my Part 1 days(2004) when singing R-Kelly & Celeine Dion a guy commented dat I was sounding like a deck. This encouraged me to enroll for the MTN project fame and was auditioned by TY-mix even though my medical doctor colleagues laughed me to scorn. Unfortunately stage fright got the better part of me as I botched d opportunity. Perhaps d song I chose too worsened matters-Jesse jagz featuring Wizkid "bad girl". I've now come to discover my self that my talented voice actually comes out when I'm in tune with the music or song when listening to it but doesn't come out well when I'm just singing without listening to the music. I've decided the next edition of any music edition I'm going for, I'm gonna be going with my ipod so I can be in tune with the melody and sing while closing my eyes just to prove myself. What do you have to say about all ds cos I live a boring life as a Medic, I'm financially comfortable but I envy superstars and d good life they enjoy....lol.... |

lomomike: bro, first thing we should know, Lagos is a Low ground area so buildings should be built following planning ordinance. Drainages should be built and the existing drainages shouldn't be blocked. There are always natural drainage pattern for rain water and other sources of mass water to follow their natural courses and if these natural drainage paths are obstructed, it is a disaster. These things I've said are meant for the planning and waste management authority to enforce folks should be enlightened and also those on flood paths or flood plains should be evacuated in planning, urban settlement, flood liable areas, flood zones, rocky areas and difficult terrains are kept aside for High income earners/low density zones (rich men) are only reserved for them to work on their environment in a manner that doesn't pose risk to the environment, lives and properties, the flood prone areas can be converted to agricultural land use areas for water loving crops such as swamp rice, sugar canes plantations et al.
As for the cars, I see electrical problem coming up soon. ECU and other components getting fried, possibly erratic offensive behaviour from electrical components, electrical fires emanating from breached or wet electrical components, those who claim to be brave and drive thru these deep water risk hydro locking (a situation where by water is sucked into an engine cylinder, since engine relies on compression and water can't be compressed, the resultant effect is a cracked or broken engine thus total destruction of engine), wastage of money due to frequent visit to mechanic and further destruction of flooded vehicles due to abuse meted by kazeems, which could cause the owner to sell his/her vehicle ridiculously cheap (flood salvage). Oga na master....you're too good for your job. I'll talk to Seun for an upward review of your salary. |

From the 1st pics it seem they dragged the vehicle out with the tow line attached to boom of the crane, that could damage the transmission, differentials and tyres of the vehicle. AWD and 4WD vehicles are lifted when towed and not dragged along. From the 2nd picture The tow sling attached to the rear end of the SUV will deform the bumper, strip its paint job. 3rd and subsequent picture showing that vehicle carried by a forklift is absolute recipe for disaster. Reason is that vehicle is bigger, taller heavy huge and a forklift isn't suppose to carry such dimension and mass. That truck could easily weigh 2.5ton (without armoured fittings), but when armoured, could easily tip the 5ton scale. Beside that, fittings such as brake lines, hydraulic lines, pneumatic pipes, exhaust pipes, electrical wires and other components could easily get crushed and/or ruptured judging from the manner it was lifted from the under body area.
In conclusion, although I'm not in support of the evil done by public servant holders and their allies, however, they're maltreating that big brawny bear (Lexus LX570). I knew the Consultant car specialist will say something. How I wished you specialized in Mercedes benz department.lols |

Timbuktou: Nigerian women are becoming sick jokes en masse. What exactly is the point of going on a date with a bunch of women who have decided to feast to their hearts' content at the expense of their male companion? What exactly is a date meant to achieve in the scheme of things? You want to go to an impressive restaurant to 'assess' whether the guy is good enough for your time, at his expense. No, my brothers would rather cut to the chase and if you're not coming to his place, it's on to the next one. There's really not much sense in wooing today's Nigerian woman. It. Is. All. About. The. Money. We now live in an era of 'no romance without finance'. Why should I woo you when all you're after is the money? You can swerve if you want to eat at Barcelos.
Secondly, whether there's a date or you've been invited to his house at first invite, there's no good intentions. He wants to lay you. Stop acting like a trip to a posh restaurant will suddenly wipe out sexual fantasies about you. Or maybe you're saying it's only ok to have those sexual fantasies after you've been wined and dined?
In conclusion, the 'come to my house dynamic' is mostly a move to economise the expenditure of time and other resources considering the margin of success/lack of. The most annoying part is d intentions bullshittt...treating sex like a bad intention is just outright wrong whether d dude loves you or not. If you don't feel same way, then by all means walk but not spewing trash like intention crap. A man will always be a man. He'll wanna have sex with women and there's absolutely nothing wrong in dat. |
