Hmm

Note that the herder was reported to the police by a farmer for crop destruction.

That is how it should be done, not farmer calling his guys to kill the cows, and Fulani retaliating, and then farmer retaliate....

Looks good, but we have a poor maintenance culture.
It is definitely gonna look like this in few months time.
And a big reason why it won't be maintained well is people insiting on paying for a trip in the new metro at very low prices...

Plus...it is government business...which is nobody's business.

The only way to keep it well maintained, is privatization.

Why were the Belgian boys wearing France shirts? France and Belgium are just like Nigeria and Ghana except that they actually share borders. It's a no brainer who the Belgians will support at the Brazil vs France 1998 world cup finals.
Belgium is a country with three ethnicities...French, Dutch/Flemish with a German minority

And there are issues between the Dutch/Flemish and French speaking parts (a bit like Nigeria, but more serious like...separatist parties are actually part of the government).

Like Nigeria, the Belgian National football team is one of its unifying factors.

Hazard and his bros are from the French speaking bit of Belgium...so backing France makes sense when your country is not playing.(Of course, if Belgium was playing...na belgium shirt dem go wear).

Fun fact...Vincent Kompany, the Belgian skipper speaks French, Dutch, English and German...so is kind of acceptable to everyone grin

DrMuzungu:
It simply isn't possible to fix the problem in 6 months or, even, in 6 years. On a good day Nigeria produces what, like 4000 MW of power. I said, on a good day! Let's assume Nigeria makes 4000 MW on ANY day. Now, Nigeria has around 200 million people living in it. On the other hand, my tiny (tiny compared to Nigeria) country has just over 8 million people, and produces between 8500 and 9000 MW.

Simple mathematics. To fix the power problem, Nigeria has to increase the power production and distribution not by 50%, but the whole 50 times! No country in the world can achieve that in 6 months, or 6 years. For every power plant Nigeria has today, it would have to build another 49 plants of the same size.

This is not something you have to believe in or not believe. These are hard FACTS. It doesn't matter if the country is run by PDP, APC or anybody else. Do not trust the liars lying to you just to get elected.

have a nice day!
Very harsh, but unfortunately very true.

What makes it painful....the amount we need for the job. IMF loan loading...plus high bills loading...and that's the painful truth.
PoliticsRe: National Grid Collapses, Generation Drops To 92MW by theoldpretender(m): 10:26am On Jul 10, 2018
The simple problem is that the transmission system is not fit for purpose.

Repalcing it it going to cost $100billion over some years. And right now, we don't have the money. So, bills may have to go up.

And we can change government...nothing wrong with that....but that won't change the problem. We need to fix a lot of things in our power supply, and the oil money is not enough, even if it reaches $200 per barrel.

Bills have to go up.
PoliticsRe: FG Asks Discos To Deliver Power Or Quit by theoldpretender(m): 5:05am On Jul 10, 2018
Fashola also stated that the financial remittances of the Discos have been very poor, adding that at the moment, they owed the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Plc (NBET) a whopping N500 billion as debts for electricity sold to them by the NBET.
“It must be obvious to the ordinary person that the supply of power is now a private business in the hands of private operators and in the end, in the hands of the Discos.

That is the problem right there.

Thing is, the DISCOS are not rasing enough money because many Nigerians, rich and poor, don't pay their bills, and also because collecting bills of N2000 monthly from metered customers is not enough.

Either bills get raised, or the problem remains. And should the government decide to change the DISCO providers, the problem of bill collection would remain.

Thing is, the DISCOS have to meter everyone first...which might help.

The DISCOS too cannot take loans from the banks...the same way GSM companies did in the telecom era because their bill collection method is not secure. You cannot use a GSM phone without credit...but you can use electricity in Nigeria via illegal connections, bypassed meters, etc.

SalamRushdie:
Buhari has no business venturing into National Airline business again after he was handed over a Nigeria Airways at its peak with 33 operational aircraft but will through his poor leadership reduce the same airline to just four barely working planes 18 months later , a downward spiral Nigeria Airways never again recovered from.
That is not true.

Nigeria Airways was still a working airline by 1988 when I flew as a passenger on an international flight no less.

Plus Nigeria Airways failed because the people running it did not run it properly, not because government.

For instance during the second Republic, politicians and their hangers on got away without paying things like excess duty

And if you want to blame government, blame IBB not Bubu.

And no, it does not mean Bubu is a good leader

Modified :In 1990,Nigeria Airways had at least 18 aircraft. Not four.

hopefulLandlord:
After independence, in order to build a great nation, each country went to work. But in Nigeria, after independence, our people went to pray and fast. So, while we were praying, Malaysia came here and took our palm seedlings and built a great factory of it. While we were praying, Singapore went into investment in technology. While we were praying, India went into ICT. While we were praying, China went to massive industrialization. While we were shouting Allah Alakuba! UAE went into massive infrastructural development. While we were binding and casting Lucifer, Japan went into technological development. While we were speaking in tongues, Denmark went into education of her citizens. While we were mounting big speakers in our places of worship, USA was mounting man on the moon.

After our prayers, God, being a wise God decided to reward us according to our labour. Since those that went into industrialization, technology, infrastructural development, ICT, education etc have been rewarded accordingly. It's only wise God rewards us with our efforts in prayers. That's why today, Nigerian pastors are competing in building the biggest churches.

That's why there are more prayer houses and worship places than hospitals and schools. That's why people rush to prayer houses for medical and business solutions instead of hospitals. That's why we don't do business proposals before jumping into business since we are going to back it up with prayers. And when it collapse, we blame devil. That's why it's a sin to say anything negative about pastors and imams. That's why our pastors don't consider the opinion of engineers while building and blame devil when building collapse. That's why faith in God replaces building pillars and when it collapse we blame it on Lucifer. That's why our pastors are making sure they plant church branches instead of schools in every streets in Nigeria. That's why we always wait for gods to do that which ability to accomplish we already have in us. That's why we want our teachers to labour on earth and go to heaven for their rewards. Nigeria is a prayer loving, god fearing nation. Religion has taken the place of technology, infrastructure, education and all. When we are traveling, we ignore all the necessary road requirements, servicing of our vehicles and pray. And, once we pray, we can put a half fit vehicle on the road and blame our step mother or mother in law if anything goes wrong. That's why there are more people dying on our roads. Because, we pray and fast and leave everything to God when we have all we need to survive and build a nation....... I hope it made sense to you
The problem from independence has been welfarisim....which in practice means economies based on sharing the goodies...which means you end up with overimportation, and little need for industries and innovation.

Japan and China don't have much resources to export (Japan is just a rock filled group of islands)...so they innovate. Nigeria just jumps from one resource to the next.

That's what I tell people...but they will accuse you of being anti-progress...

Problem is, the resources we are exporting won't provide us with enough revenue forever...so maybe we might go industrial.

smh. nigerians and stupidity are like bread and butter. 100,000 capacity church auditorium when a good number of the members would be job seekers. why can't they spend the money in creating job opportunities for their members? 100,000 capacity church auditorium that will eventually be made up of so many job seekers. we keep building large auditoriums for worship in nigeria for jobless people to come and pray in,to ask God for needs that would have been met,if the church had channeled the money for large cathedral into such. imagine the amount of jobs that would have been created with the funds earmarked for this white elephant project. this is nigeria where most of the people who run religious organizations and our govts, actually don't have wisdom. every church wants to own large auditoriums like rccg, winners, christ embassy, mfm, deeper life, and the likes. it's now a competition. the whites who brought Christianity to us,do not run their churches like this. they don't go about spending money building gigantic cathedrals up and down. in a country where poverty is high, these sort of projects aren't what the church should be financing. God doesn't live in physical buildings;he lives in our hearts.

this sort of thing can only happen in a society where the government has failed. nigeria's population is growing rapidly and we are busy giving out lands to people to build churches instead of us to give these lands to private investors who are ready to invest hugely in the economy and create jobs.
1.I agree with you(gave you a like )

2.Government does try to help private investors.

3.A big reason why we don't have much in the way of a growing economy is the fact that power supply is poor. Yet., many Nigerians want to get power for free without paying for it.(both rich and poor and even many govt enterprises)

4.Again, many Nigerian companies fail because of the greed of the founder's family, or because they are badly run.

5.Our attitude to the economy is bad...we view it as a cake to be shared rather as talents to be multiplied.

6. Our universites , infact our whole education system lacketh funding. And enough teachers, and enough

7.Thing is, Nigerians aren't interested infixing these problems...they would rather vote for the government that provides them goodies like Sure -P, N-power, consolidated whatever, free N5000, amnesty, free stomach infrastructure. If the government is not privding you with goodies...it is a bad government.

Basic problem in Nigeria is that such moves usually end up being divided along tribal and religious lines.

Back in 2012...there was a strike against fuel price rises. A section of the country stayed home, a section protested.

In 2016, there was a fuel price rise. The section that stayed home in 2012 protested, the ones that protested in 2012 were staying at home.

For you guys in the opposition, it is very easy to bring down a sitting government, but the thing is, what do you have to replace it? The same system, but this time, favouring your side.

It should cost govt nothing to replicate even better facilities for govt universities. Especially state govt that usually have singular universities.
By the way these hostels above qualify to be called HOTELS. The setting of that amethyst hall is dope, the aesthetics of that Aisha hall is mad, the lightening of that covenant hall is crazy. See how baze too is sparkling They are indeed cool. And with this I see no reason why people are rushing to Benin Republic or Ghana to study..
Thing is, it would cost a lot of money for government to replicate these hostels, talk less of maintaining them.

Back in the 1960's many of the hostels in govt universities were like that. But back then it was a lot harder to get into university, plus class sizes then we're less than 50.Not now where class sizes run into the 100, and 8 students inhabit a room meant for two.

If you want those kind of facility, either pay fees of 300000 and above, or take a big loan from IMF.

I dont like Bubu, but meetings like this is why he wins elections...it shows how completely someone who in the year 2000 went to Oyo state to 'defend the Fulani' has become something of a national leader.

If you guys want Bubu out, ie if the oppositon wants Bubu out, you have to stop calling people jihadis and start reaching out. Even if Biafra or whatever is what you want , you have to do the same.

Because every day, on Nairaland, I watch the oppositon shoot itself in the foot via bitterness and strife.
