blackgold2018:Neither, but I have friends and relatives in the lecturing business. Mind you, I think we should be paying low fees...but the thing is, the number of university students is increasing compared to the ability of the government to fund them.(and yes, there is corruption) As an example,me dad, a retired lecturer. When he went to school in the good old days, there were less than 20 students in his class in university.Of course, back then there were less than 6 universites in Nigeria. And not all my dad's siblings went to university (One even went to polytechinc, graduated, and became a very sucessful accountant. Went to university just to get an MBA) Of course, govt could fund all of them nicely. Now that same class probably has 70 students...and the facilites have not improved. |
Problem is lack of adequately trained people to deal with the issues. .1 Autism = DevilAll these problems require psychiatrists, therapists, psychologists, GP's and a host of resources that are not available in Nigeria. For thngs like dementia , anorexia,bulimia...they may require residential care that isn't just available in Nigeria. Autisim...there are less than 3 centers in Nigeria for autisim treatment./therapy...and none are run by government. 7. Dissociative amnesia = Spiritual attackAgain, we have poor public health systems in this country...plus we equate riches with good health. I know , we can blame the church for all these problems....but where are the alternatives? These things need well trained people and facilites. and all these COST MONEY. |
blackgold2018:The amount of money we spend on education in Nigeria is less than N800million. Meanwhile the ASUU/FG agreement stated that we needed at least N1.5 trillion in one year (as at 2009) for the university sector. And yes, corruption is a serious problem...but removing it would only make things slightly better, and won't adress many of the issues. I mentioned ABU's VC complaining about his overhead costs. ABU is one of the top 5 federal universites. It is located over a large land mass. And the overhead costs are N50million a month. Govt gives N10million , where is the guy going to get the remaing N40million.... And if some of our federal unviersites are well funded...why is ASUU always going on strike (and it isn;t for their salaries only). Plus, LASPOTECH is a state owned university. |
blackgold2018:So, let's keep on having poor facilites in our universites for ever....and keep on priducing poor quality graduates...because the poor have to be educated cheaply....you know. Or let's take another loan.... |
bionixs:Right, let's keep the fees below N100000. Which means, no new money for facilities, no new money for improvements, no money for overheads. Which means LASPOTECH continues to produce poor quality graduates, who would mostly be from poor houses, who cannot compete in the ob market with the graduates from the private universites... which means more jobless people and more suffering..... OR Government keeps on taking loans from the IMF to keep educaiton subsidised.....which means....the poor bear the burden of paying back the loans. May God have mercy on your soul. |
gabpaul:There are no jobs in Nigeria because we beleive in exporting stuff, and then using the revenue to import stuff we can comfortably make. If we could develop an economy where we used our raw materials to make things the world needs...then we won't have a job problem. No jobs from manufacturing means people competing for the limited jobs that are available...which means nepotism |
FarahAideed: Azam101:You guys ,do you think we should spend N2 trillion every year on just university educaiton? How do we get money to upgrade facilites in our government owned universites.? Read the ASUU/FG 2009 agreement, then go and read about what the last admin told ASUU in 2013...which was the truth. We cannot keep on poorly funding our universites, and then pretending that we have the money that can save them at hand. And if govt takes loan, you guys will complain. |
maasoap: Windflower: Arondizuogu: nairalanduseles: Stanleyville:Good evening, all of you. I know where you guys are coming from. I have known poor students who could not even pay fees, back when it was less than N5000. I even knew one guy, who when he got admission got N2000 from his dad. His fees were 5 times that at the time (circa 2003). But, here are some facts. 1.According to the ASUU/FG agreement of 2009...we should be spending at least N1.5 trillion extra in funding for universites alone just to keep fees low. 2.According to experts, it costs N600000 to train one student every year (Some experts like Chief Afe Babalola put it at N1.2 million). 3.ASUU went on stirke in 2012 and 13 to get the govt to fufill the 2009 agreement. Govt then offered ASUU 1 trillion niaria over 5 years. (note that we should have been paying 1.5 trillion over one year) ASUU took the deal...and fee rises became inevitable. 4.Last year, the VC of ABU spoke for many universites when he said that ABU's overhead costs are N50million monthly (ABU occupies a large land mass by the way)He gets N10 million from government for overheads. Where is he going to get the N40million. 5.Some of you are saying that in richer countries, govt gives loans. Yes...but most of these loans are payable back (and you have to start paying them back imemdiately...for as long as 25 years in some instances. Some countries don't start collecting payments till you earn a certain level of income). 6.Denmark and Germany have free educaiton....and a tax rate that chops half the income of the average citizen. (If we tried that in Nigeria....even if the money was spent with accountability...) Let's be honest with ourselves. I know that people are suffering, and that university educaiton is a way out of poverty (The guy I mentinoed earlier who got N2000 from popsy...now works at a well paying job, and is married with two young kids).BUT.....our universites are producng half baked graduates BECAUSE...they are starved of funds which could be used for facilites, and so on. Meanwhile, the private universites are catching up, and will soon surpass us. The rich and a large number of poor people are sending their kids out of the country. And guess what...these grads will come back and beat the poor kids who went to poorly funded public unis out of the jobs. Vocational educaiton is a good subistute. Infact, we need a lot of technicians in this country. If you cannot enter university, try vocational educaiton, and in my opinion, govt should make universities public private....and fund techincal schools heavily. If we insist on fees less than N100000 in our unviersites, in the name of helping the poor...that means we end up taking more loans from IMF, or we continue producing poor quality graduates. And in the end, the poor will suffer even more. We have no choice. You are free to insult me. I don't care. But I don't think we can keep on pretending Nigeria is this rich country with lots of money. We are 200million people who rely on oil...which we produce at the same amount as the UAE...who have just 11million people. |
divinelove:I am quoting you to tell you that you are right, very right. The truth of the matter is, we need at least N3 trillion , every year, according to the ASUU/FG agreement of 2009 to fund educaiton adequately. Since we cannot afford that money, either we raise school fees, or we beg for loans. |
Boko Haram Pastor. Lacking knowledge...except the knowledge of how to decieve people and maintain his power over them. Such people make us Christians look bad.. Anyway, as the Bible says...in 2 tim 3 vs 1-8 1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. 2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, 4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; 5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. 6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, 7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. 8 Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith. 9 But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as their's also was. May our Father in heaven deliver us from Boko Haramic pastors. P.S I recall one missionary back in the days who found a man that had been abandoned and had maggots crawling all over his body. He took the man home and cleaned him up...and the man became a devoted follower of Jesus. |
FortifiedCity:You started so well, then you started ranting against Buhari down thread. Now, I have no problem with you critiquing Bubu...I am not too fond of the APC for various reasons, but if PDP had won, something tells me that you would have been hailing 'the people's choice' when the PDP and other parties too engaged in vote buying. If you guys want democracy to work in Nigeria, you have to be honest and stop approving of corruption when it is ONLY done by the opposing side. Whoever won, so long as votes were bought...Ekiti people have indeed sold their birthright. |
I'm going to back the security guards ...sort of. Some years ago, when I was studying abroad, I was on my way home back from lectures when it suddenly started raining. I put on a hoodie, and dashed into the supermarket (had some shopping to do)...when a guard stopped me and asked me to take off my hoodie. I took off my hoodie. No arguments, no 'Who are you'. (I should also mention that the guard, from his accent, was a fellow Nigerian). The guy should have taken off his ear rings. Nigerian schools have dress codes because they want their students to be prepared for the real world, where there are dress codes galore.(Especially in my field). If a visitor came in flouting the rules, why should students obey them. That said, they should not have beaten up the student. Or his mother. Problem is, our varied secuirty agencies don't know how to handle trobulesome people. Without using violence. |
tstx:As are white people. No group has the monopoly on evil. |
Ytea:So also do black peeps... |
At least no violence, and so far no 'rejections' BUT Would be good if in 2019 Nigerians could be bold enough to vote out PDP and APC and get some new people with new ideas in. |
Longluk:Them IPOB are no longer interested in Nigeria. Unless Atiku can promise them a law that guarantees secession, or restructuring that would lead to easy break up, they would probably not pay him much attention |
Jay5mie:Mr Salesman, go and join a party. No food for lazy man. |
adsamsom:Mr Youth....are you a member of a political party? Have you got a political mentor? Go and join a political party abeg...and stop all this grousing. |
Repalce one old man with another old man.... No thanks. |
I wonder what PDP is busy doing crying out. Isn't this the same PDP who, when they were in power set up Virgin Nigeria Airways some years ago, that was to be our new national airline, and was supposed to be the revivial of our dreams...only for Branson to pull out few years later, followed by another story that we would 'continue' with the airline...which then failed appropriately one year later? PDP should explain in detail what happened to Virgin Nigeria...or Air Nigeria ....before they come and throw stones at APC initiative. Are they scared that APC's airline would actually work? (Then there was the story of making Arik Air our national carrier....which ended being a story...same PDP). As for me, APC should forget about airline for now. Anything government business in Nigeria always gets messed up by Nigerians. |
Hmmm In 2009, ASUU and FG signed an agreement that 3 trillion naira would be pumped into universites for thigs like salaries and infrastructure. By 2012 and 13, the money had not come. ASUU went on strike again , and the government then told them the truth....we don't have N3 trillion. In 2017, the VC of ABU said that his overhead costs per month were N50million. All he got from government for overhead was N10million. Tell me, why won't universites increase fees? If you want low fees, either oil goes up to $150 per barrel,or we go and beg the world bank for a hefty loan. |
Well 1.Back when SR started, the internet in Nigeria was a smaller space. Now, we have lots of news websites in Nigeria. Even Ikeji dabbles in news from time to time. And many of the news websites are doing what SR was doing. 2.I don't know about CIA funding...BUT...one reason why people don't like SR is that it attacks everyone. (A funny thing i have noticed is that when SR attacks someone's favourite political person....supporters of the political person go ballistic, those who don't like the person celebrate.) 3.Sowore is not perfect....but he was not a cultist...he fought against cults, even to the point of getting hurt. And let's be frank,....the way cults ran Nigerian universites in the 1990's...someone had to stand up to them. Don't work for SR by the way...and it has been a loooong time since i read that website. |
madgoat:I'm not sure if he is lying, but was on a flight that ran into air turbulence once. Scary. |
PrecisionFx:Thank you and good afternoon |

The problem with Nigerian democracy is the people. Not INEC, not the government, the people. This Ekiti election was marred by open vote buying...and the painful thing is people willingly and freely partook. No one stopped them, they were not forced under duress to take APC or PDP's money...they willingly took it. If Nigerians cannot wake up to the fact that vote buying is wrong...then maybe we should dump democractic rule...and go back to autocracy till we know better. |
Basically....PDP lost in Ekiti because there was division in the Umbrella house. In other words,no lessons learned from 2015...no lessons learned at all. |
Bloogers Bloogers Sigh |
graciamore:That's sad...we are running 6334 system ,not 5334 system. |
ariketalks:Sorry, but IMO, it is still too young. Secondary school is a different kettle of fish from primary school. Better to go in with some matuirity in you...preferably at 12 or 13. |
