HisRib: 1K ring? I would never wear a 1K ring. I deserve a lot more than that. If my supposed future husband shows up with a ring less than 10K, I don't think he knows me well, therefore us getting engaged is probably not a great option.Wow, i'm intrigued by your thinking pattern, I'll like to know you, just on an intellectual level |
ngozievergreen: Do men wear engagement rings? In Nordic countries, engagement rings are worn by both men and women. In some countries it is common for both men and women wear engagement rings. In many Lutheran sects often the man wears an engagement ring. Sometimes, the engagement ring eventually serves as the wedding ring for the man. In Brazil, for example, the groom and bride-to-be usually wear a plain wedding band on the right hand during the course of their engagement. After the wedding, the band is moved to the left hand. In Argentina, it is also known for the groom and bride-to-be to wear a plain silver band on the left hand while engaged. Then, after the wedding a silver band is either replaced with the wedding ring or moved to the right hand. Source:wikipedia |
HisRib: If the whole engagement ring was so "alien" to Africans, why would this young lady find it odd that her man proposed ringless? If proposing ringless was a common thing in Africa, this topic would've never been a discussion in the first place.I'm sorry, I never knew that the OP's lifestyle was an epitome of the african culture!! Truth be told, both of you belong to the same boat, I pasted an excerpt from Wikipedia on the origin of the engagement ring, yet u have refuse to see that it's not an African thing Pls I'm not cheap, I know what I have done for my partner & what i still plan to do, even if the ring was free or N500, I won't buy it for her Why should my partner place such importance on something so trivial when there are serious issues to deal with Funnily, I told her about this thread and ur Views, her question was will the engagement ring guaranty security or happiness?? bottom line: whatever rocks ur boat dearie |
HisRib: No I am not. Why is my idendity so important to you people? I keep getting asked where I'm from on every thread & forced to make something up.The reason is not far fetched, ur views are not on point, in this particular thread u sound like someone raised based on the western culture, which by the way is foolishness to us here, with few exceptions though You're supporting something that is alien to us, & not just supporting it but advising someone to flee just because there is no ring, that is foolishness dearie!! |
HisRib: I was neither born or raised in the west. Again, as I mentioned earlier, where I live doesn't matter. If it were normal for men to propose without rings in Africa, this topic would've never been started in the first place.Whatever helps u sleep at night my dear!!! |
lanre_front: Just in case you don't know why people are also questioning the sanity of your brain as well, even saying you are more sick than Mr. Olodo, it's because: having seen the that Mr. Olodo was being a nuisance by putting up such a long annoying nonsensical long post on the thread, you now helped further his intended intent of being a nuisance by copying the annoying long nonsensical post and reposting it.I highly doubt that the guy will be able to comprehend what u have written!! |
p.guyokec:There are so many explanations, his keyboard/keypad was faulty, so it kept pasting & finally sent, the one that puzzles me is urs?? PLS SIR IS YOUR BRAIN FUNCTIONING AT ALL?? |
HisRib: Why does that matter? I'm African, that's all that matters. It matters, if u were born or raised abroad, then I might understand ur perspective but if u live in Nigeria with this mentality, I feel it's out of sync with what's obtainable here |
@HisRib Pls where do u reside Naija or Yankee |
HisRib: In that case you should stop doing everything that is so called "Western Tradition," including being a Christian. Because, I remember correctly Christianity being introduced to Africans by the Europeans. We should stop wearing the white dress when we get married. We should stop driving all these European cars. We should stop wearing all these European clothes. We should just stick to what our ancestors used to do in the village. That will be taking things too far, one should constantly strive to become better, I don't believe in AS IT WAS IN THE BEGINNING SO SHALL IT BE TILL THE END, that being said it doesn't mean I have to take everything about the WEST hook line & sinker. I'll will only copy the good & the relevant things. Pls check the conversation I posted above, will it not be foolishness on the part of the girl to turn down a man just because of ring. I can afford any ring but I won't buy one for any lady, if u so desire a ring go buy one for urself. I guess at the end of the day, it's whatever rocks ur boat |
based on the above, naija girls pls keep copying WESTERN CULTURE, until u loose ur identity Pls imagine this conversation Sharon: John Asked me to marry him & I turned him down lizzy: why? Sharon: cos he didn't give me an engagement ring Lizzy: WOW, is John godly? does he have a good character? does he have prospect? is he hardworking? Sharon: I didn't consider those things, all I want is a ring, if he is truly serious and really loves & respect me, he would have given me a RING Lizzy: SMH |
An engagement ring is a ring indicating that the person wearing it is engaged to bemarried, especially in WESTERN CULTURE. In the United Kingdom , Ireland and North America , engagement rings are traditionally worn only by women, and rings can feature diamonds or other gemstones . Although the ancient Egyptians are sometimes credited with having invented the engagement ring, and the ancient Greeks with having adopted the tradition, the history of the engagement ring can only be reliably traced as far back as ancient Rome. In the 21st century, especially within WESTERN CIVILIZATION, it has become a common expectation for the bride-to-be to permanently wear her ring as a means to maintain their commitment. The idea that a man should spend a significant fraction of his annual income for an engagement ring originated from DE BEERS MARKETING in an effort to increase the sale ofdiamonds . In the 1930s, they suggested that a man should spend the equivalent of one month's income in the engagement ring; later they suggested that he should spend two months' income on it. |
bukatyne: Even though I do not advocate for the craze for engagement rings and all,I get u, am not an advocate for some of those things, but my point is a lot of their marriages where better off, yes at the beginning it was hell, but they stuck in there, and it paid off at the end for some (patience & perseverance seems not to be in our dictionary anymore) Eg in my home, it was always wrestle mania, then we all grew up, it became just arguments & we the kids will always laugh at them cos the cause of the argument was always trivial & senseless my Dad is late now, the year he died would have made it 35yrs marriage anniversary, it pained my mum greatly & she was always saying "now that they would have enjoyed their labour, death came calling" My Dad was ill close to a year & he got the best care from my mum, there is something about companionship in ur old age that money can't bring, not even ur kids but ur spouse fill that!!! So how do we get that companionship with this our mentality of this is the 21st century, marriage is no bondage etc |
our parents did & experienced the following 1.no engagement ring 2.in some cases, no white wedding 3.had premarital sex 4.our mothers did a lot of cooking, washing etc before marriage 5.our mothers endured a lot of crap from our fathers before marriage, this includes serious beatings, verbal assault kissing the bottom of inlaws etc What was the result, long lasting marriage (20yrs above) I know there are exceptions Today we are clamoring for 1.engagement ring 2.bachelor party 3.court wedding 4.NO premarital sex 5.No going over to the guys house to cook, wash etc 6. if a guys hits u in courtship or relationship(walk out) etc Where has it landed us ![]() DIVORCE LEFT RIGHT & CENTER pls keep clamoring for engagement, it's a sign of seriousness my foot Married ladies are taking off their WEDDING RINGS in Nysc camp Married men are committing adultery with their WEDDINGS RINGS on you're equating engagement ring with seriousness or love, SMH |
@jarus Nice work, pls do you still review CVs?? |
THIS EVENT TOOK PLACE AUGUST 2010. Here is an excerpt from the news ABUJA—THREE former military Heads of State, Obasanjo, Ibrahim Babangida and Muhammadu Buhari yesterday threw away their political differences in Abuja, and embraced themselves at the public presentation of a book in honour of Chief Servant of Niger State, Dr Muazu Babangida Aliyu. But Obasanjo while presenting the book, had to drag both former leaders General Buhari and General Babangida, who were initially unwilling to accept the gesture along with him to the podium to perform the duty Both Babangida and Buhari had to shift their grounds as a result of physical pressure from dignitaries seated close to them at the event. www.vanguardngr.com/2010/08/obj-ibb-buhari-sink-differences-embrace/ |

thanks for the advice, I currently have a two savings account in two different banks and with no atm or internet banking. just that when i put funds there somehow, i end up using it. its not that i dont save but i always go back there to withdraw and whenever i look at the big picture in terms of my PA. I feel bad considering the amount that has flowed through my hands and what i have to show for savings. As for reading books, you'll be amazed the number of books i have read. Richest man in Babylon, acres of diamond, rich dad series(more 6 of his books), secret of getting rich, school of money and how to become a millionaire by Emmanuel Olumide, millionaire next door, millionaire mind, the wealthy barber, micheal lebeouf books etc not that am discouraged but i'll keep reading thanks i've learnt alot |
ledafaze: Are you living alone? Meaning do you pay rent?I don't pay rent, just light bills 4k max, fuel 4k, cooking gas 3k, just little stuffs like that Recharge cards 13k max, (this fluctuates, it used to be higher than this, but on the average let's say 5k) |
ledafaze: Do you live alone? Not really, I don't pay rent, just light bills 4k max, fuel 4k, cooking gas 3k, just little stuffs like that Recharge cards 13k max, (this fluctuates, it used to be higher than this, but on the average let's say 5k) |
Wow thanks guys |
I know this question sounds ridiculous, I've been working for the past one year, my monthly salary is 150,000 making it 1.8m PA. the funny thing is I really don't have any savings, am not the fashion type neither do I womanize, so that's not where the bulk of my money goes. Am currently in a relationship but she doesn't demand so that's also not the cause. I tried putting aside a certain percentage but that didn't work, the thing is at the end of the month I write down all I've spent my cash on, I can't seem to find the one I would've done away with or the one I'll say was a waste. Am also the youngest, so no responsibility for me.. Any ideas please, no insults Thanks |

Swit up: In the early hours of yesterday morning.., in the busy region of elelenwon in port harcourt.., the first train to ply the rail way after so long a time bashed a car parked on d rails to shambles.@OP, I don't get u, u're an eye witness, yet ur pictures don't show the car on the rail way scene but rather it shows a picture of a bashed Car in a compound one would have expected to see a picture of. The car around the rails with crowds surrounding it or the car being towed away. Around the same environment Most importantly a car hit by a train will be mangled Ur pictures don't reflect that!!! |
khaleesi: So we should close our eyes to a fake pastor, quietly switch Church and leave the Pastor to continue defiling other weak, naïve and unsuspecting young girls..how do u tink self? What happened to be ur brother's keeper? What happened to Jesus message of Love..cos of Love jesus broke the Law that says keep the sabbath day holy. At the time the pharisees who re skilled in the scriptures saw it as Christ being a Law breaker..they were busy quoting scriptures for him, like u re doing..but Jesus made them understnd, Love supercedes all..Love breaks no Law.My write up was not to fault Ese or to support. The pastor. The Essence was to tell folks to be careful how they go abt the criticism. now ask yourself, with all the public ranting, what has come out of it The service attendance hasn't dropped , neither has the pastor said anything. Why bring problem to yourself for something you weren't authorized to judge??There is a structure in place in the church to deal with such, CAN & PFN is there, the court of law is there, the accused wife is there Am not an advocate of coverup, after all the bible says he that coverereth his sins shall not prosper... whether u like it or not, both wise & naive girls will still troop to that church, summary God has a way of dealing with such things. Jimmy swaggert in the US was caught with a prostitute on two different times, the first he apologized & he was suspended, assemblies of God defrocked. Him, one would have taught that he will learn his lessons, months later he was caught with another prostitute, do you know what he told the congregation?? God told me its none of ur business today the man is still alive & pastoring, though he no longer heads the church.... Bottom line, GOD HAS A WAY OF DEALING WITH SUCH THINGS |
Billygee2u: Mr man, I want you to answer my simple questions.(1)Who is a man of God? (2) How do you recognize who God called ) (3)God's judgment will start from where? (4) Should people keep quite and never confess their sins so that God will forgive them? (5) Because one gathers people in a place and continue to act as a preacher make him or her a man of God or woman of God who have the calling of God? (6) The people that were called Men of God( prophets) or the Apostles in the Bible, what was their Ethics / ID ( identity )?As for your other questions, i dont quite get you, pls you'll have to rephrase |

(6) The people that were called Men of God( prophets) or the Apostles in the Bible, what was their Ethics / ID ( identity )?4.Confessing of sins When you sin you should confess your sins before God and sometimes man, depending on the situation at hand. 1 john 1:8-10 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. But that you didn’t ask for forgiveness, doesn’t mean you will not be forgiven, it depends, come to think of it. How many you go fit confess?? Sins of inaction, sins of action, sin of thoughts etc taking verse 8 of the above scripture in mind |
