incremental power In our road map to incremental power we are looking at what we have and what we can get out of them. We have 26 (TWENTY-SIX) power plants (including the AES plant) , 3 (THREE) of the plants are powered by water, the Hydro power plants in Jebba, Kainji and Shiroro. The remainder are powered by gas. The total number of turbines which should actually generate power from 25 (TWENTY-FIVE) power plants (excluding AES) is 140 turbines. ( Installed capacity of 12,341MW). At the best of times only about 78 turbines are generating power which gave us our peak of 5074 MW. The problems have been identified as either damaged, unmaintained or unserviced turbines in the Hydro power plants, and in the cases of gas plants, it is largely non-availability of gas, coupled with lack of maintenance. I will illustrate with a few examples. |
Ladies and Gentleman, When I assumed office as minister, maybe I should have done some of the more traditional things. To tell you that your generators will disappear in one year or to tell you how many Thousands of Megawatts you will get in how many months. I am sure these would have grabbed a lot of headlines and attracted front page coverage. But history tells us clearly that we have done all these before and we still do not have enough power. I could also have started by telling you how many people will be probed for all the money spent on power. But those of you who choose not to forget will remember that we have probed almost everybody and every institution concerned with power in the past and we still do not have enough power. I could also have started by announcing or recommending that the privatization process should be cancelled. I know first that cancellation of contracts is not a good signal to send to investors; even if it grabs the headlines it will be for the wrong reasons. History also tells us that we have revoked, cancelled or reversed previous privatization initiatives with refineries before and we still haven’t overcome the problem. I have chosen to start my discussion this way because my topic is “Nigeria’s Electricity Challenge: A roadmap for change.” I believe we must depart from these routes we have previously travelled if we must overcome the electricity challenge and I am optimistic that we can. In charting the roadmap for change, I am of the view that we must first tell ourselves what is wrong. The simplest way I can put it is to say that we do not have enough power. Since 1950 when the Electricity Corporation of Nigeria (ECN), the predecessor of NEPA and PHCN, was created, the maximum energy we have generated stands at 5074 MW was achieved in February 2016 this year. This is not enough to power a country whose population is in the hundreds of millions and is still growing. So in answer to the big question, ‘What is the roadmap?’ I say it is getting “incremental power”, in a way that every Megawatt of power must be harnessed and made available to our people. From “incremental power” we should maybe then seek to deliver “steady power” and from then go on to “uninterrupted power.” In the quest for incremental power, we must not overlook the things we have done poorly in the past. They range from improperly erected distribution poles, characterized by poor quality materials, poor workmanship, poor standards by local and foreign contractors who were employed to deliver the services and did not give us value for money. We must look at cable theft, vandalization of pipelines and transformers, power theft by consumers who use energy without meters or consumers who pay unscrupulous people who help bypass meters. We must look at court disputes, and protests and those who attack the efficiency of the power system in order to resolve grievances. We must resolve that these will not happen again in our road map for change. |
There is no light yet, an outrageous bill awaits you at the end of the month. If you go make complaints, nothing will be done Yet, NERC says your complaints ought to be resolved within 15days! NERC also says after making payments for prepaid meters, within 45days, DIsco's should provide the meter & if after 60 days, no meter is provided, then the consumer shouldn't be billed All these are grossly disobeyed yet no sanction Is NERC toothless or there is a clause in the MOU between the power firm & nigeria, that bars them from being sanctioned ?? I will appreciate if this can grace the FrontPage to get a wider audience, maybe then it will get to the relevant person CC:Mynd44's |
The above letter was sent to BEDC, NERC was put in copy, the south-south NERC was also put in copy, it's been 3weeks, no acknowledgement from them or change in the procedure. CAPMI was a scheme setup for individuals to advance payment for prepaid meters, the disco are to pay back that money over a period of 36months via discounted vouchers I.e at the point of purchasing units for your meters, there is a discount It is the sole responsibility of the disco's to supply meters at no cost but because they are lagging behind, NERC came up with CAPMI, yet there is no change. A single phase meter cost N39,000 in benin, after gòing thru the stress of registering & making payment, one has to wait for donkey years before getting the meter. Those using post paid meters in benin are no longer being charged based on their readings but via estimated billing. Yet BEDC doesn't want to provide prepaid meters |
Dear Sir/ma, My name is ..........., I wish to bring to your notice the stressful procedure in applying for a prepaid meter under the CAPMI scheme with BEDC. I fall under the Ugbowo Business District in Benin City, Edo State. The district office address is located in Textile Mill road in benin city. To acquire a meter, one has to go to the district office to get a form with 2 parts, one part to be filled by the applicant & the other by the service engineer. This implies that after getting this form, I have to go back to the BEDC in my locality to look for my service engineer to fill his part. After filling the form, one has to go back to the district office to submit the form & another form will be given, this time one is required to fill & have it stamped by an electrical contractor(LECAN), to get this form stamped, one has to pay between N3,000-N5,000 to the electrical contractor, this amount depends on your bargaining power. You will then take back this stamped form to the district office to submit it & you will be informed to expect a call, in order for you to pick a computer generated paper/invoice go make payments in the bank, it takes time for you to be called. Some were called after 1week, some after 4days There was a case of a lady who was called after days to come pick this paper, she got to the bank only to be told, that the numbers were wrong, she had to go back to the office for rectification. When one is done making successful payment, the receipt is then presented to the district office & you are told that, one will be informed when the meter is avaliable(God knows when that will be). Please sir, in this 21st century with all technology at our disposal why does BEDC have to put resisdent through such stressful process? Why can't i get the form in BEDC office in my locality? Why do I have to go all the way to the district office? Only to come back to my local BEDC office to get my service engineer? The idea of looking for one's service engineer & an electrical contractor encourages the "man know man factor", "extortion" & "racketeering"!! What is my bussiness with an electrical contractor as an individual seeking to have a meter in my house? Why do I have to PAY to get my form stamped when it is the responsibility of BEDC to provide meters in the first place? Why can't BEDC ask applicants to raise a draft in their favour or go pay into a designated bank account or pay in their office (after all post paid bills/pre paid vouchers are being paid in their office)? Why does one have to wait for days for an invoice or paper to be generated before payments can be made? Lastly, the ugbowo business district office located at textile mill, have ONLY ONE customer complaint Rep, which is not enough considering the crowd that is always there to make complaints/enquiries. The Rep is usually very cold, blunt & unprofessional in his approach. BEDC is ignoring Benin City resident meter readings & giving crazy bills/estimated bills, at the same time making it difficult for us to also get prepaid meters with ease. Isn't this wickedness, bad business practice & outright disregard for laid down laws/procedures. I am a strong believer that the pen is mightier than the sword & I want to believe that NERC will do something about this time wasting/frustrating process Thanks ............ |

HaykayIsOkay:what position did you apply for? I didn't get this part "A week's training is more than sufficient for us to cash up" |
Vinshu:with all due respect, i think you are poor, i might be wrong but i stand to be corrected. Living in a rented apartment isnt a crime and it musnt be a 3bed room apartment. In saner climes where there is an effective rail, water and taxi system, why should I buy a car? Do you know what it takes to buy a plot of land in Abuja or even rent a 3 bedroom apartment in Abuja? so someone who works in abuja shouldnt get married till he has a 3 bedroom apartment or a car abi? some self contain apartment in abuja is above 400k what you should advocate for ought to be that the man must have proven to have been taking care of himself successfully and the ability to take care of someone else. by successfully, we mean meeting his basic needs which isnt limited to food, clothing, accomodation, immediate siblings etc |
Jagabanthelion:the next day but I havent heard from them. it appears having an MOPU OR FPSO experience is important to them and residency in lagos also. |

Do you have an idea of what to expect? 2. No job description was also given, can you throw more light on this? I ask so that I can tailor my Cv in that light CC: lantessy |
lexyril:It depends on your banking platform & the network status at that time. I don't get what you mean by adding the acct details to your acc |

kaziblake:your Falling in love has been the issue. Stop falling in love. let your head do most of the work & not your heart Always examine your status at every time T i.e always ask yourself if you have become better since you have been with a guy or if you we're lagging behind. If the answers is bad, it becomes easy for you to pull out on the grounds that ur heart is not the driver Most importantly, ALWAYS start out as friends, this eliminates or reduces pretense Then examine yourself, you attract who you are, who are you? What is your value system? Who are your friends? If you can truly do this, there are people you won't even listen to, not to talk of dating Work on yourself, read books(you will be amazed on the ton of info you can get online be it audio, video, books) evaluate all your past relationships(where did you miss it, what would you have done differently) The above will help you in spotting Red flag/dangers on time eliminating the need for trial by error or let see how it goes |
Any new info regarding this project with respect to recruitment? I learnt Cegelec won the maintenance contract for Egina FPSO |
oemmanuel:Pls I'm trying to find out more info about this company, how did your test go with them? |
xyoung:SPIE's interview has been conducted, it was done in batches. mine was in the month of november though i didnt get it. |
dabriggs:Sorry for the late response, I have sent you a Pm. as for poor work condition/welfare maybe it has to do with my company but one thing that is common to all construction companies is their work schedule & it sucks Imagine working for 1month, only to have 3days as off or to work for 1month & leave site last Thursday to resume on Monday, the best I have heard of is 3weeks on & 1 week off, mind you some of these locations are remote One would think that, with such length of stay, compensation would occur in terms of pay. Nada!!! But for maintenance, it's relatively better in terms of pay/allowance & then time off schedule. another thing is once, the project is completed in construction, it's to your tent O Israel with or without pay off!! |
MadCow1:I sent you a Pm, I'm yet to get a reply. I have checked my spam too |
MadCow1:How do I get your email address? |
I have to thank you for taking out time to respond to this thread. I'm an instrument engineer, currently engaged in a gas plant construction project/flow station upgrade. The work condition/welfare for construction isn't good at all I really want to switch to operations/maintenance & would like to send my CV to you for review & if possible help me spread it around too. Thanks Hoping to hear from you CC: scantee Madcow1 Mrbigman1 dabriggs |
