fewj: The al-Assad family has ruled Syria since Hafez al-Assad became President of Syria in 1971 and established an authoritarian regime under the control of the Ba'ath Party. After his death in 2000, his son Bashar succeeded him, this is a typical situation of a country being ruled by one family, is this not dictatorship?
Isn't it funny that you specifically carved out a country that actually has a room for political parties, cast votes, and has more freedom than Nigeria in many sectors of its Social Structure...then just like your western Hegemonic Friends(whom obviously has brainwashed you)..you see nothing in Absolute Dictatorial Monarchies all over the middle east where monthly execution of activists are the norm, where no form of protest is allowed, where national resources and national revenue is a family property to be lavished and looted as they please.

You see nothing against Sadist and Mass Executionists like KING Hamad ibn Isa of Bahrain whom is a strong ally of the WEST.
You see nothing against Sadist King Abdullah bin Abdul‘aziz of Saudi Arabia whom will execute more than 4 families in the public just to teach a lesson to anybody that tries to challenge his families authority to rule..and whom is also a very strong ally of the west.

you see nothing against the Monarchs of Kuwait- Emir Sabah al-Ahmad , Jordan - King Abdullah II (child killer) , Oman - Sultan Qaboos bin Said ... all these families has been ruling for years as long as we can remember and are strong allies of USA, these same dictators whom hold absolute power over the life and death of any of their citizen, above all laws, above all court, above everybody else and riles in their barbarity as a way to sustain power.

You see nothing in all these people...only Syria where there is freedom and democracy, where the people actually stood for their leader. YOU are either a Hypocrite with no conscience or just ignorant of the truth.

dan tha mccoy: If were in the situation of the Syrian people I sincerely wonder if y'all would be praying there's no intervention of any sort. It's easy to for you to be typing all this now.
Of course America is not blameless but I seriously feel there has to be some sort of intervention.
Please read up on all the conflicts that the Americans intervened on and know why you are wrong in your assumptions. In fact in Syria the People are praying that USA would not intervene, there is now a new national movement call "OVER OUR BODIES" which the Syrian people meant to use their body as human shield to protect their nation if the US is to attack their nation.

we will see how this pans out, If Russia sticks to his policy on Syria then it would be a major policy change from Russia, since the time of the cold war Russia has been known as a weakling whenever it concerns its allies, he sells out easily whenever offered a deal. throughout the cold war era they betrayed many south American and African countries for a piece of coins here and there and that is one of the main reasons why many of the eastern European nation would rather be a western puppet than to be continuously used and sold by the Russians.
If not for Cuba, Angola would not have been what it became today.

We will just see if Russia is a new Russia or just the same old Soviets that would play Opposition just to raise the price and when they believe it can not be raised any higher they just switch and collect their settlement and leave the poor nation to bleed.

uzoexcel: Iam going to speak objectively here...I have an issue with America always been on the forefront of liberalision of coUntries with conflicts as i feel they sometimes have dubious agendas but usually one cant blame them IMO...For all the US wrongdoings, i would rather have them as the world police/superpower than china/russia as they seem to have better conscience than the aforementioned countries.he syria war has been going on for ages but not one of the so-called world powers/anti american countries stepped in to resolve the conflict... The Arab league of nations middle eastern countries which should have stepped up and resolved this issue were just barking toothlessly..Not one of the middle eastern countries did anything while thousands of syrian's were killed....And if i was Obama, i would call out China!!lemme explain...china wants to be a superpower but in crises like this they are no where to be found or are always hiding behind the back of russia..The chinese are conscienceless and would never do anything to help...So it looks quite hypocritical when America wanna steps in 3 years after the conflict began and everyone is suddenly shouting 'anti-american' protests.Where were all these countries sincehuh
There are two reasons why they stayed out of it, one is the observation of international laws on National Sovereignty , the second and the most valid reason is that they understand and appreciate the nature of the conflict, they knew how it started and the interests that it was meant to furnish, they understand what the consequences will be for the people and the region, they had a better understanding of the culture and nature of the people and factors which influence their judgement. Altogether they show sincere concern for the people.

you should ask yourself these questions :

Would the war lasted this long if the Americans did not fund and arm the rebels ?
Would American intervention stop the conflict or will it escalate it ?
Has any country gotten better from American Intervention ?
Foreign AffairsRe: Do You Support The Coming American War Against The Syria Assad Regime by thoth: 1:43am On Sep 06, 2013
NO LONG TIN: Are you aware it was a peaceful protests until Assad sent his men to kill the protesters, that how it degenerated to this, so if you want to blame someone leave America out of it and stop this your propaganda!!

The protest in Syria was an extension of the Arab Spring, unlike the Egyptian president who decided to step down to protect his country, Assad decided to attack/kill the protesters. Are you going to feed Me the propaganda that the Americans started/funded the Arab Spring??
There were no protest in Syria, there were an invasion by foreign fighters supported by local reactionaries and Funded by Foreign interests.

Can you show just a single evidence that Assad sent people to kill protesters ?
Can you show a single evidence that there were peaceful protests in Syria prior to the Outbreak ?
Foreign AffairsRe: Do You Support The Coming American War Against The Syria Assad Regime by thoth: 1:40am On Sep 06, 2013
NO LONG TIN: I have 2 things to add in this argument

1. To the person claiming the Syrian people don't want Assad, on what evidence do u base ur claim??

I believe they don't want him because of the protest that was stage which lead to this war - because Assad sent his men to kill them (protesters) and also it's a know fact the Army are deflecting in large numbers to the rebels .

2. Rebels or terrorist don't have access to WMD (Sarin or chemical weapons in this case), if they did, I'm sure it won't be 'wasted' in Syria as Assad wants us to believe, instead it will be used by al queida in terrorizing the world.

N. B. For those supporting Assad’s claim that the rebels used chemical weapons, you should ask yourself this question? Why haven't other rebels in other countries used chemical weapons?
The Syrian Rebels admitted they have chemical weapons including Sarin Gas long before this issue, The US denied supplying them the weapons but later admitted openly of supplying them chemical weapons stating it was for the sake of deterrence, while that does not make sense the Assad regime can give a comprehensible stock of their chemical stockpile while the rebels can't.
The rebels have also admitted using chemical gas but the western media choose to ignore it, then mysteriously after a while they retracted their former statement and the US drummed it up against the Syrian Government.

PoliticsRe: Why Jonathan Cannot Fight Corruption by thoth: 9:34am On Sep 05, 2013
Majority of Nigerians are corrupt that is a fact, the problem is that the ones that has ever tried to sincerely fight corruption were not supported by the people.

People still try to smear Buhari for his policies during his regime and these same people are wailing everyday for the miseries that the same ailment that he tried to cure brings on them.

When Abacha went deep against the bankers, oil thieves and government looters Nigerians did not appreciate it..they wanted democracy and now they got it.

The truth is that after considering the cultural and strategic factors that guides events in Africa it is plain that only a form of Single minded Military regime of something of the likes can ever bring a change..as long as its constituent actors are patriotic.

When you read some of the comments here on Nairaland you will know why Nigeria is not mentioned in such things, majority of Nigerians does not understand the meaning of Sovereignty, ask them would they want the British to colonize them again and you will see the response you will get...don't be surprised though.
Foreign AffairsRe: Do You Support The Coming American War Against The Syria Assad Regime by thoth: 1:55am On Sep 05, 2013
fewj: Reading through different comments regarding an impending war or should I say an impending U.S invasion of Syria and It sovereignty, Here are some points I think we should all note:

1. This impending invasion is a product of political turmoil, citizens of syria have rejected their government especially their president just like some other Arab nations did recently, why can't president Assad just step down, your own people don't want you anymore, you're imposing yourself on them at the cost of so many lives!!! You definitely do not have their best interest at heart!
You are definitely wrong on that one, The Syrians has never rejected Assad, nor have they ever shown any intent to, the reality on the other hand is the other way round, they embraced him more since the conflict started and this Conflict has united the Syrian people more, American sponsored Islamic extremist which is trying to turn Syria into an Islamic state invaded Syria, majority of fighters are not even Syrian.
It is the same Game that was played in Libya against Gaddafi , recruit foreign fighters then let them invade the target country then prop up some reactionary element and let him speak for the whole country.

2. This crisis didn't start today, its been on for over two years, neither the Assad regime, the U.S., Russia or even China have been able to come up with a reasonable solution and execute it to the later, Russia and China especially so far haven't done anything to mitigate the hardship being faced by Syrians through medical and food aid and anything else, instead they've been making huge profits from it buy selling more weapons to the Assad regime!!! grin

3. I never saw any thread here on Nairaland suggesting a solution to this crisis, or even commensurating with the Syrian people in their time of hardship for the over two years its been on sad
Another Wrong twist of reality, The truth will remain the Truth for those who sincerely seek it, and the truth is that Syria has been Battling Western Sponsored Islamic extremism for years, trying to portray it as a systemic problem that has justifiable cause is just plainly wicked or ignorance whichever is your case.

You can't just say "the crisis has been there for years" as a means of justification without shedding more light on the nature of such crisis you mention, that is misleading, Boko Haram has been plaguing Nigerian for years...does that make it an Nigerian aggression against the state ? does that give it any credibility ? if the US starts arming boko Haram tomorrow and then recruit MORE fighters from Nigel,Chad and Mali would you put Nigeria in the same position you are portraying Syria ?
Will you say that Boko Haram is Fighting a Nigerian Cause ?
I am a Nigerian and i will be among the first to execute Boko Haram terrorist if i have the power. So is the Syrian People trying to do and the whole world Supports Assad apart from your likes and the Western War Mongers.

4. I also never saw any thread criticising the U.N. Security council for not doing nearly enough all this time, or even a thread mobilizing an anti Assad or even an Anti civil war rally all this time, now thousands have died! angry
If you say you have not seen people blindly supporting your claim then we can understand, well you should understand that there are intelligent and well informed people out there and not everybody is arrogant as the west.

Why would you be looking for Anti-Assad Thread, why not Anti-Al-Qaeda thread ?
Why would you be looking for Anti-Civil War thread, since when did the Syrian conflict become a civil war, why not look for anti Terrorism thread ?
Finally The U.S. is bold enough to initiate a military strike, tongues which have been silent to the death of people's children, parents, their lovers, spouse, uncles and aunties are now wagging. angry

In my opinion, the solution is very simple, Russia which has strong ties with the Assad regime should offer the Syrian president and his cohorts asylum, that would be a major game changer.

(If Russia won't, GEJ should set up a joint committee of boko haram and Mend to go and kidnap Assad cheesy cheesy cheesy, Na joke I dey o kiss kiss kiss)
The US is bold enough to ignore the UN and murder millions of Iraqi citizens on a lie that Saddam has WMD,US is bold enough to invade Afghanistan when all fingers has been pointing to the US for 9/11. Us has been bold enough to topple democratic governments all over the world and erode cultures and impose hardship on the people.
More than 80% of the world wish that US weren't this bold and we pray that somehow we might be able to put a stop on the Insanity.
Foreign AffairsRe: Do You Support The Coming American War Against The Syria Assad Regime by thoth: 1:23am On Sep 05, 2013
omenka: I think the US is on point on this call. The consequences of the US standing down after what Asad did to his own people would be more dire. It would give other rogue and beligerent regimes around the world the impetus to deploy such weapons against percieved enemies.

This is gonna be unlike Iraq or Afghanistan. There would be no boots on ground, just ariel strikes at some military infrastructure to reduce Asad's capability.

People like Asad are the reason why I still insist Mubarak is a patriot!! He didn't burn his country just to maintain his grip on power.

I feel people calling for the US not to act are only doing so just to sound politically correct. I mean, why should a whole country burn just for the selfish interest of ONE MANhuh It simply doesn't make any sense.
Many credible sources have insisted that the US funded Rebels used chemical weapons on the civilians and not Assad, i still don't understand on what ground you are making this assumption. have you ever talked with a Syrian since this conflict started or you just watch CNN and then form your opinion ?(more like adopt their opinion).
Foreign AffairsRe: Do You Support The Coming American War Against The Syria Assad Regime by thoth: 1:18am On Sep 05, 2013
Flytefalls: angry angry Naive?

For you: I do not support war or America. I support coordinated international relief/aid efforts as an 'intervention' for the >4million displaced Syrians who have suffered already. I am talking of food, water, shelter, medicine, restructure funds; basically up-scaling what the UN is already doing. I also inferred (@bolded) that even our humanitarian efforts (as interventions) could result in war in some future place in time- one cannot discount that fact. It was somebody's bright idea to help arm the rebels- we will pay for that. It's best always to stay ph7 neutral to avoid unnecessary future repercussions; but this stance does not bode well to those affected undecided.

We cannot offer security. It is not our place to- this is their civil war. But we can't afford to be seen doing absolutely nothing; which is what many Syrians in the UK are verbalising. Basically what this guy is now saying now that his government have voiced their displeasure at military action: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-23942037
When a grown man start talking gibberish as you just did that when things get messed up more, that is if people are silly enough to listen to you. You support intervention but not war, you support Giving food aid and relief as intervention...how does that stop the conflict ?

You did not object USA(which i assume is your country) funding the rebels, No the first to be done is not to stop funding the rebels but to give "Aid" which could mean many things. Although Igbo2011 suggest that you might be naive but after reading your reply to that i believe you are just simply wicked.
Foreign AffairsRe: Do You Support The Coming American War Against The Syria Assad Regime by thoth: 4:42am On Sep 04, 2013
Flytefalls: I support an intervention; the Syrians who suffer need this desperately. But I can never support war, which will happen inevitably upon intervention. Seriously, who do you attack when you are unsure of the culprit? Where do you face your guns- to the areas of Syria in peaceful power or tragic destitution? This will perceptually worsen before it gets better.

This world is already locked into multiple pockets of cyclic vengence. We will never see peace until "the end".
I sincerely believe that you do not understand what the Americans mean by when they say "Intervention", if you think that the goal of American interventionist policies is to foster peace then you are ignorant of a large part of World History.

Syrians want no American Intervention,
Middle East wants no American Intervention.

After witnessing how the CIA turned Libya into Terrorist heaven for training and arming terrorists, Nigeria and Mali felt the result of that intervention, with the escalation of terrorist activities in west Africa. we have not gotten over that yet and you still want another CIA terrorist base.

Because Africans have a warped view of democracy. to the African man Democracy ends with the ballot box, after that Government is never seen as that of the people and by the people, it is from then on seen as an establishment independent of the people but having an almost divine right over the destiny and fate of the people.

They Used depleted Uranium in Iraq,Libya and Somalia and the devastating effects of that is still being felt daily, Doctors Without Borders reported on the atrocities of US marines bombing Somali with chemical and radioactive weapons but as usual the Western press which has been the staple for African audience ignored it and made sure such news were never heard by the masses.

The most Painful part of this debacle is that the Average Nigerian(which makes up the majority) would never listen to alternative media and even when they come in contact with one they vehemently reject the facts presented as propaganda, the surprising part is that i have never heard any of them reject any news by BBC,CNN or FOX as propaganda.
PoliticsRe: Okorocha, Catholic Doctors At War Over Abortion Law by thoth: 11:28am On Aug 28, 2013
actually even though the law states the condition on which abortion is allowed, what many of you fail to understand is that in the court of law it has several interpretaions. A woman can simply decide to abort a baby simply because she FEELS that it was not what she wants and therefore a concern to her health, there are many ways the whole line can be twisted.

Today i was informed that the law was drafted by USAID and they sorted the House of Assembly after the first attempt was rejected.

These USAID and others knows quite well what they are doing, it is we africans and our inferiority complex result in our quest to feel like to qhite man that is confused, very soon divorce laws will be introdued and i know people will like to sound modern and support it while our society disintegrates.

A woman who wants to spite you can abort your baby on basis of health reasons if she states that she does not feel healthy enough to proceed with the pregnancy.

May God help Africa.

Sudanese oil export mounts to billions of dollars per year, sudanese people don't see a farding of that revenue, he kills and silences anyone that speaks against him, you will never hear of any kind of dissent in sudan because his supporter of APC guys makes sure it is taken care of at the early stage, the man is a real monster with no human conscience.

There are lots of stories i have heard from many chinese expats that worked in Sudan but i know people will start asking for this and that proof so i rather keep it to myself.
I know the west has abused the term Human Rights in their quest for world hegemony but i reality Sudan is just a killing zone, humans worth nothing there, it is a nation that is kept only for the enrichment of Bashir and his friends.

Bashir himself has undermined african interests on the request of his Arab brothers, he sees himself and his country more as an Arab than as an African, on this i hold no grudge against him, i spent years in morroco so i know how the North Africans think of themselves.

Sudanese themselves don't really see life as you do, the chinese are just reaping the country dry as quickly as they can, it is pure colonialism, they can treat the sudanese like donkeys and Bashir and his guy dare not hear you say anything against the chinese.

If you look at Sudan in the Reality of what Bashir has turned it into then you will rejoice that at least in Nigeria some trickle of the lootings come down to us and at least we can express our grudge.

I have never been the sort to take this kind of stand nor had i been a Humans rights champion since i consider that a sort of scam but after watching some videos in the phones of many of my chinese friends i really felt sorry for Sudanese and for once in my life i felt a little happy that southern SUdan became their own nation albeit a western puppet nation.

We Yorubas bown down and respect our leaders/kings/Obas a lot and in return we expect them to govern us well, if they do not? We have checks and balances like the Ogbonis(secret council of elders) and others and even the ordinary commoners have power (in group) to deal with their leaders!
I gave you a wikipedia link to read but i doubt you are the type that would take his time to read.

Sorry we had no Igwes until the Europeans came , you should read more about the Igbo form of Democracy, much more better than what you have today, Igbos bow to nobody. The British has a really hard time trying to impose kingship on us..do your research.

If you think that bowing to someone and having the fate of a nation decided by one man is humility then you really don't know what being a free human being means. use google and research on the Igbo concept of Amadi(A freeborn) , being a leader does not make you God in igbo land you are just a leader in the sense of a manager and that means in other spheres you should respect the opinions of other men whom has been assigned to manage that and whom in your own sphere might have to listen to you.

Again read the Wikipedia link i gave you.
