Looking through your profile, I see you had same problem sometime in 2014. How did you solve it back then?
You need a compression test kit for the compression test. It comprises of pressure guage and fitters for the engine, please carry out a scan as well.

Please what's the rationale behind this comment?
I suggest you study Google maps in terrain mode to see how far above sea level all the places you mentioned are, also research the amount of rainfall in those places before assuming they will be worse; or else you are just here to make tribalistic and thoughtless comments.

If purchased within Nigeria, what oil was used the last 3 times?
If Tokunbo ask a person who can differentiate between synthetic and mineral oil to do so by inspecting what's in the car and advice you based on what's in the vehicle.
Car TalkRe: May God Save Us From These Vulcanizers by timifakay(m): 9:14pm On Jul 06, 2017
Haha... I've seen (I didn't partronise him oh) worse.
I was walking one fateful evening and a roadside vulcaniser asked me to help him load an airtime voucher in his hands. He obviously doesn't know how to read well or has very terrible sight. How will he accurately read any guage, whether analogue dial, analogue pen or digital?
Best bet is to check by yourself, either with your own guage or tell him to show you what's on the guage used and ensure it's recommended value before paying.

Car TalkRe: Please I Need An Advice On The Type Of Engine Oil, I Can Use For My Toyota Camry by timifakay(m): 3:44am On Jul 05, 2017
Jbmega12:
I have been observing that the Total quartz5000 20W50 I use for my Toyota Camry 2003 always short after sometime (within a month and two, it has reduced).
NOTE: 1. my oil is not leaking anywhere
2. The engine has not wear out
Please, I need a professional advice on what oil I can be using or change to.
My trip A is 5728.5
Trip B is 7389.4
Odometer is 195860
And the specification on my engine oil cover in my engine is SAE 5W-30
After next service, please reset Trip A or B or write down total odometer reading and note the distance it takes to notice significant drop in oil level.
I hate to be a carrier of a bad news, but your engine is already wearing out and the oil is leaking into the combustion chamber and being burnt sir/ma.
Just continue with what you are using for now as oil of lesser viscosity will even reduce faster.

Yinkatolu:
I have an 04 corrola too that vibrates but i was told that there's nothing i can do about it that it's accidented.
1. Is the check engine light on?
2. Have you ever scanned?
3. If answer to question 2 is yes, what were the DTCs?

If vibration is as a result of previous accident then the chassis could be compromised.

Valarinz

When GAZZUZZ bought a car in no-start condition what did he do?
He bought new engine and transmission! Look here for confirmation: https://www.nairaland.com/3864550/vehicle-2009-honda-accord-ex-l
This shows he is practicing what he preaches without sentiments.

valarinz:
You see, this is why I warned airex to be careful how he states his case here cos it s just like playing against barca at the nou camp,

For all of you saying he should state his case and he's done so, the defence builds his case on "rattling sound, direct connection" and a long list of other items, and you're asking airex to come and give "more explanations", Abeg which other explanations are you expecting, or is it cos you all know that when it comes to knowing cars systems and make up, gazzuzz will always have the upper hand

And you want him to come and attempt to take on him and be disgraced, bottom line is he took the car to get solutions and wasn't satisfied with what he got and he took it elsewhere and got the problem resolved to his satisfaction

Does that warrant him coming here to call someone "blockhead", definitely NO, is that enough reason to attempt to go on a smear campaign, also No and definitely uncalled for

But for all of you calling him out for wanting a cheap fix for his car, as you all are dangote, let him be managing his life like that, his main argument is that he was asked to pay over 600k for something he got done for below 50k, it's all about the money, else why will some one even import a non-starter car in the first place. If I have a nail puncture my tyre and I know I can't afford to replace it asap and I see the patch and can be fixed, and I take it to a vulcaniser to get it patched so I can drive home first and replace later, and the vulcaniser tell me he won't patch and only recommends a new tyre and I go down and get it done at the next vulvanizer and go home, where's the crime in that?

If my laptop gets faulty for eg, and I take it to fix, mostly I pay the engineer to fix it and whatever English he speaks as the issue with the laptop can't be verified by me as I know little of the components of a laptop, so you don't expect me to come home and give you details of what the laptop engineer did, bottom line is: he fixed the laptop, case closed, for those of you who think cos you're in car industry you know things and everyone else who can't explain his car in details is a fool, then keep it up, tnx
Someone who can afford to import a Lexus Rx350 is not managing his life; if he can't do proper repairs, he's living a fake life.
First he repaired the no-start condition car to start working, but it wasn't working properly, then he wanted to make it work properly and it was recommended that he should do what he should have done before the first repair was carried out- which is to change engine.

I'm pretty sure the total amount he spent on that car would exceed a third of what replacing the engine will cost and he can't get as much a third of the life span of a good replacement tokunboh engine.

Your analogy of tyres is a different case because cars are expected to have a spare at all times to help easily replace, but no car carries a spare engine around.
The hard drive of a laptop can be interchanged under 30 minutes to retrieve data incase of a fault, but if a car engine fails in the middle of nowhere you first have to tow aside the danger you are exposed to.

Bros, did I miss out on something here? Can't remember seeing anywhere the guy stated that he imported it as scrap, or is it the "non-starter" state it came in as that made u assume it's scrap? I'm asking this cos if that's the case then I must say you got it wrong, I've witnesses multiple cases where non-standardr cars imported got up and running as a result of change of minor things like the fuel pump he mentioned

And as regards the "General service" tag, don't you know that's what majority of mechanics just tell customers so they won't actually know exactly what it was that was worked on, to enable them charge well. Most hardly give you details like telling you they cleaned the nozzles with carb cleaner for eg, cos you'll want to pay little, they'll tell you "oga , we service the engine"
I wrote or salvage value
AutosRe: See How This Guy Is Reviving Toyota Highlander.. See Pics by timifakay(m): 8:00am On Jul 03, 2017
Here is a question for all.
Do you think the previous owner would have sold car as scrap or insurance company would accept it and give owner claim then auction off as scrap or at salvage value if a proper repair would cost less than $200?

Also he hasn't told us the first procedure and cost which was done to make the car start and move while engine was rattling. I think he needs to state that as well so we really know all that's happened to the vehicle.

Or mechanics in the US don't know how to change fuel pump and do general service as stated by Airex?

Guy, a clear conscience fears no allegation at all. Why are you busy running up and down? Checking if I'm online or offline if you are sure you didn't do this. Like I said earlier on I don't want to expose your ignorance. I have stated my point to you. "step up your game". Kill the issue. It's dead, buried and gone but if you truly want me to go ahead and post evidences I'll go ahead and do that when im well disposed to do that but I tell you it'll be to your detriment.
If he doesn't talk you will say he's quiet because he's guilty. Now that he's asking you to talk but you don't have anything to say.

Yes, it is okay you buy it, but
Is it reliable?
Are OEM parts readily available?
Is your technician skilled enough to handle it?
I suggest you look into these and some other things that will come to fore as you are trying to answer them...
Car TalkRe: My Honda Accord 2003 (EOD) Engine Oil Problem by timifakay(m): 7:54pm On Jul 01, 2017
Looks like a case of car shorting oil (burning).
What's the odometer reading?
Try noting distance travelled instead of amount of time after service.
The car probably has an history of service schedule not being followed.

Obviously. I guess that guy is better than you. Can't imagine taking a vehicle to this blockheaded man and u couldn't detect a simple fault. All u wanted was just to Change a whole engine. Looking for the easiest way out. The same issue you said couldn't be fixed was fixed for less than 50k and there you were clamouring for a change of engine. Guy step up your game.
What's the vehicle model and year of production?
What's engine type and cylinder configuration?
What were the signs shown by engine?
What was scan result and diagnosis?
What was done to fix the car?
For how long has the car been in use after the repair?

Giving us more information will help drive your point home instead of name calling...
AutosRe: See How This Guy Is Reviving Toyota Highlander.. See Pics by timifakay(m): 11:19pm On Jun 30, 2017
From the pictures, this looks like what the car went through:
1) Somersault
2) Multiple impact

Effect on car
1) Lots of broken lights
2) Several airbags deployed
3) Broken windows
4) Torn rubber seals
5) Bent camber or chassis

this is work being done:
1) 2 of 4 doors replacement.
2) Every unit of the body panel beating.
3) Passenger running board replacement.
4) Several welded joints where there should be single frame.
5) Every light replacement.
6) Suspension parts replacement.

After the repair
1) SRS/ Airbag system would be useless
2) Vehicle aerodynamics will be off balance
3) Electrical system would be compromised.
4) Suspension would lack balance.

Sadly this car will be sold as "NEAT, DIRECT, TOKUNBOH LESS THAN 100K Miles 2009 Highlander" meanwhile it's just a salvaged carcass in the country of origin.

No doubt the technician is good, but the vehicle is far gone and can never be near normal operating conditions because there will be
1) Several rusts- weld points
2) Tampered electrical system
3) Leakages
4) Unexplainable irregularities while driving, amongst other things.

All the lists are inexhaustive...
Car TalkRe: Things To Have In Mind As A New Car Owner. by timifakay(m):

Please don't check your coolant level daily. The seal around the radiator cover will wear out from the constant checks and eventually start to let pressure and coolant put.
What should be done is to ensure your cooling system is in good order to ensure that the coolant level does not go low. I end up checking my coolant level maybe 3 or 4 times in the entire year & its just fine. Of course, you may flush the radiator once a year as well.
Cheers
Reservoirs have Minimum and maximum marks which can be used to monitor coolant level to avoid frequent opening of radiator.

Odeyinigbin:
Wat of Custom duty?
Very important
No just drive ur car without custom duty
Under normal circumstances that's not necessary because if customs duty isn't paid, it's the fault of importer/ seller not user/ buyer and Customs should be tracing it to them instead of extorting users.
Besides customs check points are on nterstate highways.
