As much as it’s a painful situation, I believe it’s normal protocol anywhere in the world for police to take charge of such locations and allow licensed emergency personnels to work. Sometimes more disasters happen during rescue operations. It’s good that they wanted to help but the police had to do what they did imo. |

nigerians are going to Ghana because the country has an economy that is conducive for business. Not because cedi is higher. There’s peace and security, there’s constant electricity and there’s a progressive thinking government. If Nigeria has these, many people wont bother traveling out for business irrespective of the value of naira. Know this and know peace. Datedoboy: U saw how Nigerian traders were disgraced in Ghana and it took the intervention of our VP to calm nerves. Our aim is to be higher by introducing naira for dollar? It is development for them cos their currency is better that is why their Government asked Giant of Africa citizens to pay 1m usd b4 u do business there and yet people are rushing there. Let me answer your question. Our aim is to be better than Ghana by introducing policies that will make 5kNaira equal to 1usd. Our competition is not Ghana. Ghana is too small We are competing with Zimbabwe after all Ghana has more exports than us |

GeneralDae: His point is that Ghana is not really exporting that much but heaven did not fall when they did what they did. You haven't really addressed that part. You just keep asking the same question.. "is Ghana your competition". heaven did not fall, is Ghana now heaven? How has it translated to development for Ghanaians? Is our ambition as Nigerians to be like Ghanaians? Is Ghana our competition or our aim is higher (to be the best in Africa) ? Answer objectively and honestly to yourself. |

Honestly you are not thinking of anybody. You merely grabbing at straws without addressing your initial submission despite the fact that I had answered you that You cannot discourage demand for the dollar with an import dependent economy. It’s that simple. The main currency for international trade is the dollar. If we as Nigerians want to bring anything in which we always do, we have to convert to dollar to buy and import. If we were a major exporting country we could leverage on that to encourage people to buy the naira so as to trade with us thereby increasing the value of the naira through demand. Datedoboy: No sir Ghana is not. I only used Ghana as a reference point but let us start from somewhere. Ok let me ask you sir. Who is our competition with the way Naira is falling. Zimbabwe right?
Am not bothered anyway if NGN likes it should be usd2k it will even favour me. I'm just thinking of other people |

You keep dragging me back sha and it’s tiring. I will ask you again is Ghana your competition? Datedoboy: That is why I used Ghana's example. Do they have more to sell than us? Yet the new Ghana cedis is stronger than the Naira Purchasing power of the current 1cedi is greater than 1ngn if we are waiting for us to export at the level of China or other developed countries, we are in for a long ride. My aim is not to argue with you bro. Let's just help the Naira appreciate in value. There are so many ways to kill a bird |

Slighter higher value to other people who care less or to us who use it? Let me break it down for you. Let’s say for instance we are able to peg e-naira to 1dollar. The value of e-naira will of course still be reflective of the current exchange rate which is abou 575 naira. In order words, the value of whatever you are buying with the new currency would still be equal that of the older currency when you do the math. I give you an example. An iPhone 12 costs $1000, 1000 e-naira and 1.140m the only difference here will be currency name. It would then be delusional to think that because you are able to convert your Naira notes to e-naira you have higher value. The value of any currency is in its purchasing power. How does the change of currency denomination give you a higher spending power is where you want to focus your energy on. A country like China with Its ambitions of world domination is never seeking to equate their currency with the dollar yet they are able to focus policy towards creating more wealth for their people. The Chinese have even been accused severally of devaluing it’s currency to give itself unfair advantage in international trade. Our problem isn’t the value of the naira bro. We don’t have anything to sell. The GeneralDae: Yeah but we wouldn't be the first country to have that. However, ours would be better because the enaira is also from the cbn. So many poor countries use both dollar and their local currency. But we'll be using enaira (of a slightly higher value) and naira. |

We’ll have a different currency with the same Nigeria. GeneralDae: Ghana removed three zeros but forget about equating it to the dollar for now. Just redoniminating the naira to a lower value, what are the implications? |

GeneralDae: Not at all, but is it not possible to remove just one zero from the naira? What would be the economic implications if that happened? hyperinflation. |

Is the Ghana cedi your competition? Also, back to your initial post, did the Ghanaian government try to equate the cedi to the dollar by simply pegging it? GeneralDae: But now it is stronger than the naira and every now and then Nigerians compare Ghana to Nigeria on YouTube and they praise Ghana for having a stronger currency. The truth is to investors and foreigners, Ghana truly have a stronger currency. |
Politics › Re: Foreign Investors Won’t Be Interested In eNaira – Reno Omokri by Timoleon(m): 2:23pm On Nov 01, 2021 |
Datedoboy: Thanks bro I was about saying the same thing. People saying it won't work. How did Ghana solve their currency issue. What does Ghana export? The major export in Ghana is Gold and Cocoa. Even recently, the government stopped export of cocoa to Switzerland. So we export more than Ghana but why is the new cedis stronger than Naira? Nigerians keep running to Ghana and South Africa to set up shops. Maybe until wen the Naira hit 1k b4 we will be satisfied What Ghana did to its currency is redenominate it. They did not and cannot make it equal to the dollar without having equal sphere of influence that the dollar has. Go and read bro. |

Na you be the Olodo and e go pay you make you logout so you no go dey type nonsense. All banks already digital platforms. Why is the federal government spending so much on something that already exists (waste of money) e-Nairaland does not create itself. Like your normal bank apps, you have to deposit your cash with an agent to create a digital value for it. So what exactly makes your enaira special? EroticJane: This person na heavy olodo with dull brain. Enaira a waste of resources? what resources? You people will just come out to criticize any development without even understanding how it works. Everything is moving digital just like posting paper mails have gradually moved to electronic mails (email). As email makes sending of messages faster so will enaira make payment faster. don't compare enaira with epayment. enaira is the digital currency, epayment is the process via which this currency move from the payer to the receiver. The only problem with the method is sustainability in the long run. I believe that tough fiscal policies can make it sustainable. |
