Christianity Etc › Case B/w A Brothel And Church:who Wins? by tobechi74(op): 2:45pm On Nov 29, 2014
Diamond D's brothel began construction on an expansion of their building to increase their ever-growing business. In response, the local Baptist Church started a campaign to block the business from expanding -- with morning, afternoon, and evening prayer sessions at their church.
Work on Diamond D's progressed right up until the week before the grand re-opening when lightning struck the whorehouse and burned it to the ground! After the brothel was burned to the ground by the lightning strike, the church folks were rather smug in their outlook, bragging about "the power of prayer."

But late last week 'Big Jugs' Jill Diamond, the owner/madam, sued the church, the preacher and the entire congregation on the grounds that the church ... "was ultimately responsible for the demise of her building and her business -- either through direct or indirect divine actions or means."
In its reply to the court, the church vehemently and vociferously denied any and all responsibility or any connection to the building's demise.
The crusty old judge read through the plaintiff's complaint and the defendant's reply, and at the opening hearing he commented, "I don't know how the hell I'm going to decide this case, but it appears from the paperwork, that we now have a whorehouse owner who staunchly believes in the power of prayer, and an entire church congregation that thinks it's all bullshit."

The most romantic stories in the Bible
Khaya Dlanga
Mon 04 Apr 2011

The first story is about Jacob. Now Jacob, son of Isaac wanted to get married. So he went to his uncle’s crib, who had two daughters. One hot. The other not so much. The oldest daughter was not so hot because the Bible says, “Leah had weak eyes”. I suspect she was squint. The younger daughter’s name was Rachel and she was damn hot too. How do I know? “For the Bible tells me so” (sorry, couldn’t resist) the Bible tells us that “Rachel had a lovely figure” mind you, this was before the invention of bikinis. The Bible continues about Rachel “and was beautiful”. And you guys thought the Bible wasn’t shallow sometimes?

Jacob wanted hot miss thang, Rachel. Duh, obviously. He was in love with her. Jacob was broke and had nothing, he offered to work for his uncle for seven years in order to afford to marry Her Royal Hotness, Rachel. Laban, Rachel’s dad agreed to this arrangement. Jacob worked for a whole seven years to get her. As the Bible puts it “but they seemed like only a few days to him because of his love for her”. Ahhh, so romantic.

Then the seven years came to pass and he said to Laban, “Malume, give me my wife”. OK, now brace yourself for the next few sentences. “My time is completed and I want to make love to her.” This guy! Jacob basically said to his fiancée’s dad: “I wanna shag your daughter dude. It’s been a while.” Can you imagine telling your future father-in-law that you want to “make love” to his daughter? The audacity of this man. In fact, give this man a Bell’s!
The wedding happened. She was covered, brought to him in the night. They shagged and as we would say in the black custom to indicate that a lot of shagging happened: “They shagged and shagged, and shagged and shagged and shagged.” So when morning came, there was Leah! He’d been doing the dirty with her all along.

Obviously Jacob is pissed off now. He worked seven years, a whole seven years to marry the hot one, now he gets the not-so-hot-one. His uncle, the deceitful conniving bastard says: “Sorrynyana. But according to our custom, the older daughter has to get married first.” Probably said inGeneration’straditionalist voice — Khaphela. Then Uncle Laban also gave him the hot daughter, Rachel, but he had to work another seven years for her too.

The second story is a short one. It’s the story of the romantic Elkanah, prophet Samuel’s dad. Elkanah had two wives, this dude had nothing on Jacob Zuma. Hannah and Peninnah. Peninnah had children by the truck-load or should we say camel-load? Hannah on other hand hadnada. He’d go to the temple with his wives every year. This dude loved Hannah even though she had no kids. The wife with the kids would be rather bitchy to her for she had no kids. So she’d always be crying and would not eat. Elkanah would always say to her: “Hannah, why are you weeping? Why don’t you eat? Why are you downhearted? Don’t I mean more to you more than 10 sons?”

I think the “don’t I mean more to you than 10 sons” bit is the most romantic thing I’ve read in the Bible. For what he is saying is this, I don’t love you for a reason. The only reason I love you is because I love you. You don’t have to do anything. All you have to do is be you. That is all. It’s almost a prophetic image of Christ who loves us despite ourselves. We don’t have to do anything for him to love us. He loves justnje.

Christianity Etc › Pastor Turns Coke To Petrol by tobechi74(op): 7:28pm On Nov 17, 2014
THIS pastor claims that anything can be achieved through the power of God . . . and even Coca-Cola can be turned into petrol!

Last Sunday, the SunTeam was on the scene when Pastor Thabo Mokgolela (21) of Armor of God Church, Katlehong, Ekurhuleni, apparently turned cold drink into petrol.

The young pastor poured Coke out of the bottle and soon the ground and the Coke smelt like petrol.
He said he once ran his car on Coke and it went for kilometres. The SunTeam asked him why he didn’t run his car on Coke all the time.
He replied with a warning: “Don’t try God!” Since Pastor Mokgolela started his church earlier this year he has allegedly healed and prayed for more than 300 people from all over Joburg.

He said people who came to his church in wheelchairs ended up walking. He said it wasn’t him who did the healing.
“God heals. The Bible tells us: Through Him, nothing is impossible.” The pastor said God spoke to him in voices during one of his prayer sessions when he was 10 years old.
He said people who criticised Pastor Lesego Daniel, who made his congregates eat grass and drink petrol, were wrong.
“This is the spiritual life. These are the miracles God makes His servants perform,” he said.
He said he left the West Rand for Katlehong because God told him to go there and help and heal those in trouble.
Sibongile Nxumalo (28), a member of the church, also claimed to have run her car on Coke. “Through faith, everything is possible,” she said.
Martha Dlamini (57) said she had financial difficulties but once she joined the church her husband got a job and life at home is sweet again!

An Open Letter by a Northerner to Northerners...

"The Northerners, we have been chasing a rat while our house is on fire. The North is already on fire, instead of making effort to extinguish the fire but we keep dissipating your energy and voices on accusing the South and Jonathan of igniting the fire for us while the fire is incessantly devouring you and destroying our house. If it is true that Jonathan and the South are the ones who kindled this fire on our house that means Jonathan and the South are your enemies

. Between us and our enemies who do you think should extinguish this fire? Are we expecting them to extinguish the fire for us? We have to extinguish the fire before pointing an accusing finger to anyone. Our Northern leaders have to put the North in order but they failed thereby continue apportioning the blame on Jonathan. I am not protecting Jonathan here but the truth must be told.

The Boko Haram exist since the Obasanjo's era and it keep growing through the Yar'adua's and it continues growing today. Our Northern leaders including the traditional rulers are the most selfish people I know. All what they care is their family and immediate relatives. The traditional rulers, ranging from the Sultan of Sokoto to Ward Head (Mai anguwa), are usually apportioning traditional titles to criminal politicians and richers with the expectation of contracts, employment opportunities and favours to their close ones. If the employment opportunity comes, they always give it to their close ones. They don't care about the youth in the region. They always hope that their children will be educated and rule the region forever. These three category of persons are the ones responsible for the Northern predicament.

They are:

the politicians of the region,

the traditional rulers and

religious preachers who answer the name "scholars".

Family › Right To Live /right To Die....why Is Suicide Wrong? by tobechi74(op): 9:36pm On Nov 11, 2014
Just as it would be wrong to force people to die, so is it wrong to force people to endure conditions that they find to be unbearable.

The decision about whether to continue living in such conditions is among the most important that can be made. Just as people value having control over where to live, which occupation to pursue, whom to marry, and whether to have children, so people value having control over whether to continue living when quality of life deteriorates. That is why the right to life and the right to die are not two rights, but two aspects or descriptions of the same right. The right to life is the right to decide whether one willor will notcontinue living. The right to die is the right to decide whether one will die (when one could continue living). If the right to life were only a right to decide to continue living and did not also include a right to decide not to continue living, then it would be adutyto live rather than arightto life. The idea that there is a duty to continue living, regardless of how bad life has become, is an implausible one indeed.

Jobs/Vacancies › Re: Signs You Are Bad At Your Job And Will Be Fired Soon by tobechi74(op): 8:49pm On Nov 08, 2014
Here are warning signs to look out for.

. You always get left out -
If you are a loner at your job, and find that you can’t fit in with anyone who works in the office, it might not be the right place for you to work. It is one thing if you clash personalities with a few co-workers; but, it is an entirely different thing if you can’t get along with one person, managers, or any employee in the same office.

Whether it is the position, or the employer, it is time for you to start looking elsewhere, because you might not be suited for what you are currently doing.

You never get assignments -
If you work with a larger team, or are working on new projects at your job, but you are never chosen as a team leader, or even part of a team, it may be a sign your co-workers are hinting that you are not great at your job.
If you always end up being chosen last, or do not get big work assignments, your co-workers and managers might be pointing at the sign that you are not the top choice, and are not the best qualified to do certain tasks.

You don’t get raises -
When all other employees get a 1% annual pay increase, or higher, yet you have had the same salary for a few years, it may be a sign that you are just getting by. If you do not excel, your managers are not going to give you a raise; and, if you are constantly the only person that doesn’t get a raise, it may be one of the signs you are bad at your job. A raise is your employ’er way of thanking you for your hard work, and great service; if you never receive a raise, it may be their way of letting you know that you are not doing work to a satisfactory level within the organization.

4. You never receive promotions -
If you have tried or promotions in the past, if you have applied for different positions within the organization, and if you are always passed up for a higher position within the organization, it may be a sign that you do not have what it takes to work in that position. Especially if you have worked for your employer for several years, and have seen others, who have been there for a shorter period of time, getting promotions, then you might want to reassess the work you do. Although you have not gotten fired yet, if you can’t move, or can’t seem to get past doing the same menial tasks, day in and day out, it may be a sign that your employer is giving you, that you are in the wrong position, or that you are never going to make it past the current position that you hold.
Jobs/Vacancies › Signs You Are Bad At Your Job And Will Be Fired Soon by tobechi74(op): 8:45pm On Nov 08, 2014
here is more than one way to find out whether or not you are in the right field, or working the right position. If you hate going in to work each day, and dread the weekend’s end, it is one sign; but, there are other signs you are bad at your job, which may be an indication that it is time for you to start looking for a new job, or consider an entirely new career path for you to follow.
Infrequent restructuring and layoffs were the only things an employee could worry about in the past, but a lot has changed nowadays considering the tough economic times. For instance, companies are going through bankruptcies, non-stop downsizing and even the illusion of job security will soon be a thing of the past. These factors have seen the job layoffs and unemployment numbers rise to double digits.
It is quite evident that no one would like to be caught unaware, especially when it comes to losing a job. Nonetheless, how can you know if you will be fired soon
Christianity Etc › 15 Facts On African Religions by tobechi74(op): 2:59pm On Nov 05, 2014
African traditional religion refers to the indigenous or autochthonous religions of the African people. It deals with their cosmology, ritual practices, symbols, arts, society, and so on. Because religion is a way of life, it relates to culture and society as they affect the worldview of the African people.

2. Traditional African religions are not stagnant but highly dynamic and constantly reacting to various shifting influences such as old age, modernity, and technological advances.

3. Traditional African religions are less of faith traditions and more of lived traditions. They are less concerned with doctrines and much more so with rituals, ceremonies, and lived practices.

4. When addressing religion in Africa, scholars often speak of a “triple heritage,” that is the triple legacy of indigenous religion, Islam, and Christianity that are often found side by side in many African societies.

5. While those who identify as practitioners of traditional African religions are often in the minority, many who identify as Muslims or Christians are involved in traditional religions to one degree or another.

6. Though many Africans have converted to Islam and Christianity, these religions still inform the social, economic, and political life in African societies.

7. Traditional African religions have gone global! The Trans-Atlantic slave trade led to the growth of African-inspired traditions in the Americas such as Candomblé in Brazil, Santería in Cuba, or Vodun in Haïti. Furthermore, many in places like the US and the UK have converted to various traditional African religions, and the importance of the diaspora for these religions is growing rapidly. African religions have also become a major attraction for those in the diaspora who travel to Africa on pilgrimages because of the global reach of these traditions.

8. There are quite a number of revival groups and movements whose main aim is to ensure that the tenants and practice of African indigenous religion that are threatened survive. These can be found all over the Americas and Europe.

9. The concerns for health, wealth, and procreation are very central to the core of African religions. That is why they have developed institutions for healing, for commerce, and for the general well-being of their own practitioners and adherents of other religions as well.

10. Indigenous African religions are not based on conversion like Islam and Christianity. They tend to propagate peaceful coexistence, and they promote good relations with members of other religious traditions that surround them.

11. Today as a minority tradition, it has suffered immensely from human rights abuses. This is based on misconceptions that these religions are antithetical to modernity. Indeed indigenous African religions have provided the blueprint for robust conversations and thinking about community relations, interfaith dialogue, civil society, and civil religion.

12. Women play a key role in the practice of these traditions, and the internal gender relations and dynamics are very profound. There are many female goddesses along with their male counterparts. There are female priestesses, diviners, and other figures, and many feminist scholars have drawn from these traditions to advocate for women’s rights and the place of the feminine in African societies. The traditional approach of indigenous African religions to gender is one of complementarity in which a confluence of male and female forces must operate in harmony.

13. Indigenous African religions contain a great deal of wisdom and insight on how human beings can best live within and interact with the environment. Given our current impending ecological crisis, indigenous African religions have a great deal to offer both African countries and the world at large.

14. African indigenous religions provide strong linkages between the life of humans and the world of the ancestors. Humans are thus able to maintain constant and symbiotic relations with their ancestors who are understood to be intimately concerned and involved in their descendants’ everyday affairs.

15. Unlike other world religions that have written scriptures, oral sources form the core of indigenous African religions. These oral sources are intricately interwoven into arts, political and social structure, and material culture. The oral nature of these traditions allows for a great deal of adaptability and variation within and between indigenous African religions. At the same time, forms of orature – such as the Ifa tradition amongst the Yoruba can form important sources for understanding the tenants and worldview of these religions that can serve as analogs to scriptures such as the Bible or the Qur’an.

What Does It Mean to Be Well Educated

Does the phrasewell-educatedrefer to a quality of the schooling you received, or to something about you? Does it denote what you were taught, or what you learned (and remember)?

If the term applies to what you now know and can do, you could be poorly educated despite having received a top-notch education

would anyone seriously say that our criteria for “well-educated” today are exactly the same as those used a century ago – or that they should be?

Does Merely sitting in classrooms for hours make one well-educated.

Test scores. To a disconcerting extent, high scores on standardized tests signify a facility with taking standardized tests. Most teachers can instantly name students who are talented thinkers but who just don’t do well on these exams – as well as students whose scores seem to overestimate their intellectual gift

what disciplines does a college student need to study before he or she is truly “well educated”

what, exactly, defines a well-educated person. Does it include being multi-lingual, or having a firm grasp of history, or knowing ? Does it include algebra, or chemistry, or biology
