But since Bayelsa was created, it became an impossibility for the Ijaws to solely dictate what happens in Rivers state.

It is exactly the same way SE Igbos can no longer affect the political fortunes of Rivers state. This was possible during the Eastern Region period, but not now. Things change. That is what I am saying.

I know Bayelsa Ijaws are fighting hard to bring in every Rivers tribe into the Ijaw umbrella, but even with this effort, it will not be enough for Ijaws to become the majority group in Rivers. Eventually people will start fighting back.

Remember what happened in Bonny a few months ago. They started fighting back over what they saw as Ijaw desperation to make Bonny another Ijaw territory. They officially issued a press release where they made it clear that they were of Igbo ancestry. But also admitted that those in Finima possibily had Ijoid ancestry.


U have point when u said ijaws are trying very hard to bring most of the tribes in Rivers under the ijaw nation umbrella. Before 2000 or so, the nembes say they were not ijaw but after the asari dokubos campaign they changed the narrative. I was even shocked when kalabari and okrika started claiming ijaw.

But, the truth, the ijaws can readily speak in one voice when the cheap is done and fight to defend their interest but not the interest.

I watched how the Ijaws encroached from across comprehensive beach in borokiri axis to lay claim to lands as far as ogbunabali enclaves. They even killed ogbunabali youth leader in early 2000 while the rest of the youth just stood there and did nothing.
The ijaws are fighters while the ikweres only knows how to oppress the non indigenes amongst them. They just cannot stand any of their neighbours in open confrontation. Wike is just blabbing because he is power.

There are also no Ijaws in Rivers state, unless you are talking about the Kalabaris and Okrikans e.t.c. This will not work, because if Ikwerre people notice any gang-up, Ikwerres will try and gang-up with the Igboids of Rivers state.
