no team can win the champions league without a good defence. with the exception of real madrid(who were so exceptional in their time) check the last 6 winners. these are defensive teams. arsenal has already won the cup. when they were down by one man,barca jus couldn't play anything impressive,only when arsenal went up did barca start playing.alas, it is a bit too late. arsenal can defend this goal for 500mins and with their great fastbreak,and barca's weak defence,they mat score again.
Politics › Re: Which Way Nigeria? by toshmann(m): 4:07pm On May 17, 2006
it is not about school funding alone. total deterioration. have u seen where exams are taking place in nigerian universities? have u been to a lecture room in our universities. is it cultism, or prostitution where do i start. even with the available resources,we can do better. education is a mess. and it is going down the more. yet we hear of 50m naira bribe for each senator and hear governors carrying money to foreign countries. ponder this, the money ex gov alam of bayelsa was trapped in london for, that amt of money can be used to replace all the molues in lagos with standard buses like the ones in europe.
the money spent on 3rd term can be used to equip 1 or more intensive care units in any of our teaching hospitals. do u know that. it could have been used to build a good library for one of the universities. or ease transport problems within a university.
get ma point?

the national assembly(especially the senate) is the hero of all this saga. we must commend the apparently unbending intergrity of senators uche chukwumerije, afikuyomi,mamora etc(i can't remember them all)our unborn children will read about them. most of all we must commend the senate leadership especially ken nnamani who withstood pressure from aso rock to let the rules of the senate hold.

@ nigerians, congratulations
@democracy,here we come
Politics › Re: Senate Throws Out Third Term Amendment Bill by toshmann(m): 3:28pm On May 17, 2006
i thot this thread is for third term tremination. why all this biafra/nigeria stuff.

anyway, i'm  just coming back from a pub where i went to celebrate democracy. this is the 1st democratic exercise in the history of nigeria with victory for the masses against unpopular leadership projects.

for those who say OBJ is great, where was he when 50m naira was being given to each senator as bribe for the 3rd term, where was he when anenih was accused of looting 300m naira meant for federal roads, where is justice when slok airline is grounded b/c the owner opposed the president, abeg the man na crook jare,let him go.

for the guy saying the 3rd term was a plan by OBJ to test our democracy. haha. well, tell that guy that we all followed this 3rd term stuff, so we know how far. if that is a face saving technique for the disgrace of failed 3rd term, tell him i have a better plan to save OBJ's face--let him re-arrange INEC and establish a solid foundation for a democratic free and fair elections. we'll respect him for that. otherwise he is leaving aso rock in eternal disgrace as this event will be studied in lecture rooms by generations yet unborn.

as for the next president. if we have an efficient electoral system,that cant be a problem, but for now, while we are rejoicing, let us watch IBB and Atiku carefully

twinstaiye:
Suppose OBJ does not really mean third term, suppose what he do wants was to show to the world and that incoming government can never amend the constitution to elongate their stay in government in Nigeria as compared to the rest of africa. Suppose OBJ did all this to let Nigerians know that his will be the last government with two terms and that the two terms syndrome is not feasible again. Suppose the target of OBJ is 6 year single term for incoming president and governors, suppose all the hulla balloo of the 3rd term is just a wild goose chase just to let incoming government know what they will face should they decide to stay put in office in Nigeria. Suppose OBJ is also working underground to defeat third term. Has anyone pause to think about this? read the rest at www.twinstaiye..com

@afeni,
what do u think should be done about the incessant religious riots and general insecurity when the best of our security agents are busy safeguarding the politicians and chasing after their opponents and there is not much left to keep law and order.
when tony blair came to cardiff i did not even know. b4 the queen came to cardiff it was announced but she came and left without people in the city center knowing. if OBJ is going to Umuahia, all the security men in the southeast and south south with their governors and officers will be in umuahia, there will be hold ups in imo abia rivers anambra et al. so much gra gra,yet no security.
in a multi cultural and multireligious society like nigeria, seasoned planners should know that there is a likelyhood of clashes and should be ready for such eventuality. igeria was not properly planned, is not being properly managed and is heading dangerously towards self destruction. my greatest annoyance is that those leaders of today who are killing the nation have plans to run away when the bubble bursts.

when a country has so deteriorated that criminals like atiku and IBB are the ones fighting for democracy and human rights then there is little left to hope for. today, i'm in the U.K for education, just because i wanted qualitative and prestigiuos education i had to leave nigeria for the UK enduring the cold, racism, cultural difference, food etc living on the edge, just for qualitative education. now ponder this, 27yrs ago, the university of Ibadan was one of the best schools in the common wealth(commonwealth includes australia,new zealand, canada) and see what UI is today. u'll begin to appreciate what i mean by deterioration of a society. who knows where we will be in 20yrs time.
Obj et al have finally destroyed democracy that was still a toddler(b/c they are so desperate for this 3rd term which they may get in the end)
we are watching, history will note, posterity will judge, but they will not go unpunished.

well,priscilla, in1892, everton fc had a problem in arnfield and they left anfield. the chairman,john houlding decided to stay behind and formed a new team called liverpool fc. this became the genesis of a success story:18 times league champions, 7 times fa cup, 5 times champions league, 3 times uefa cup champions 7 times league cup winners. the reds became the most successful football club in england to this day.
the fa cup finals in cardiff started on a shaky note for the reds, keeper reina made some costly mistakes in the early minutes of the game but the reds showed characteristic resilience. i sat in the midst of liverpool supporters(of which i am one) u can see the strong support they give the team even when we were 2 goals down. none of them believed they will loose the match. and by the time they started singing the club anthem(u'll never walk alone) u can feel the majestic spirit of the team in the stadium and u can't help joining the rest of the fans to tell urself---we can't loose this match
