chrischidi:
we need them more than they need our resources.
we wanted them out of our lives early to manage our resources yet we cannot boost of electricity and water after 46 years.
and you think they'll come and give you democracy? think again. you need to understand how these people operate. they think of themselves 1st. the US has no free gift for anybody. they removed sadam, brought in chaos and took away oil. they went to vietnam to help,when it got tough they abandoned the vietnamese to the communists and genocide. they gave dangerous advice in iraq that lead to the 1991 uprising and consequent genocide. the list can go on.

if they want to help, why didn't they help somalia,(they left when they saw it was not easy, but they could have done better)liberia(they left nigeria to do the job and came when the job was done to claim taylor), rwanda(they showed a shameful selfishness in this case) so why should they "help" us?

true they can help, they know it better, but they'll rather come for our oil. that is a fact. belive me

cheers

forgive me if i sound outrageous, but okocha may mean white rat in another part of iboland.
oke is rat and ocha is fair/white. in ibo whenever there is a combination of words where the 1st ends with a vowel and the 2nd begins with a vowel, there is what is called "vowel assassination". so in this case(oke + ocha) the vowel lost is the e in oke leaving you with okocha= white rat. but i must confess, most young ibos don't really know the deep meaning of some names and i guess the real meaning of okocha must be something else(not what i think it is)

and, okocha is from delta state, so i'm not sure of his ethnic group(though he grew up in the east)

@ Odeku don't mind all those people maybe them no dey naija when IBB dey do hin thing, plus i seem to notice a trend of tribe bashing on this forum at times which really really baffles me. We the ones of this generation are supposed to have overcome this nonsense. I am yoruba but by no means think less of other tribes. We all seem to forget that all the tribes in naija suffer from bad leadership although some more than the others. I know many Yoruba leaders that i detest and will continue to detest till thy kingdom come and there are plenty of other likewise many Igbo and Hausa prominent people that I admire and will continue to.Wake up to the reality people it's them the (Elite) against us (the people). They have always played us and will continue to do so.
i feel you naija babe, people find it difficult to see the obvious. since the history of mankind. the greatest battle has always been the haves versus the have nots, the rish vs the poor, the proliterates vs the bourgeoisie. but when they want to confuse the poor, they set up tribalism. have we evr wondered where tribal/religious difference is when these leaders come together to loot the nation? or to rig elections?

Solution to the problem, get rid of all old politician in Nigeria and we will be fruitful, all this old politicians are crook, and they only have their selfish interest in mind
who will do that for us? it will take war, and/or enough bloodshed to do this. so let us be more practical with suggestions, you never know who is reading these messages,it may help somebody somewhere to take decisions that can favor the country.

i suggest we start by joining forces with the anti 3rd term fighters. then see what we can do to get men of intergrity into the legislature. and possibly avoid rigging, then democracy all the way,

massive revolt cant work now. see, they stopped a meeting in sheraton hotel abuja. a meeting that involved top politicians. and when a member of house of reps tried to enter the ladi kwali hall of the hotel, they beat him up. he is still in the hospital. if they could do this to top politicians including buhari, what will they do to a massive revolt by poor nigerians? they will roll out the tankers and machine guns. there will be amazing blood shed. do u really want that? what if ur relative is among the demonstrators/revolters.

so this is our best bet. after all, it took two indian prostitutes to stop abacha, but the prostitutes did not become president,did they?
relax buddy, let's stop the 3rd term. when the bill is defeated on the floor of the national assembly we will then go ahead and talk of the next president.

@davidylan,
nigeria has millions of people of integrity who can lead the country, but the forces against them are too numerous. from finance to rigging etc, they cant fight this war. so if it takes rogue to push off rogue, no stress. after 3rd term is stopped, we can now stand tight from the onset to ensure that another obj doesn't happen in 2011.

nigeria's left wingers (nadeco, pronaco etc) should try and enter the legislature now.let them not relax as they did in 1999 after abacha's exit and their absence helped in the making of another abacha in olusani abachanjo.

sometimes, it takes an insider to fight a battle. i must tell you, obj is very uncomfortable now. atiku cant be prosecuted, he is there with him. we need this to stop the 3rd term. he is a major threat to 3rd term. why not support him, at least to squash the 3rd term. after squashing the 3rd term, we will now find someone to stand for in the elctions (not ibb)
Politics › Re: Atiku For President! by toshmann(m): 7:15pm On Apr 08, 2006
atiku for president? God forbid. but let him heat up the struggle to stop 3rd term. yep

christain/moslem violence in nigeria? it will take a great leader in nigeria to stop it. 46yrs after independence we are still looking for one.

davidylan:
Welcome to the road to perdition for Nigeria.
Support rogues who wear the toga of heroes for their own selfish ends? Why is he against the third term? That is pretty obvious to the blind! As long as he supports third term, he can never be president!
nigeria has always been on the road to perdition. or are you just knowing it? i support any movement that will stop the making of a dictatorship. even if that movement comes from unwanted sources as ibb and atiku. look at the country today. obj decends on any percieved opposition with military fiat.the constitution is being ammended without public imput and against public need. demonstrators are persecuted.

cant you see? we dont want this. do we? so let us get rid of this man (obj) b4 he changes the constitution undemocratically and buries democracy.
Politics › Re: Open Fight Between Obasanjo And Atiku: Bad For Third Term! by toshmann(m): 7:03pm On Apr 08, 2006
@davidylan

while i don't admire atiku, i must say, that by standing against the 3rd term, atiku has ,at least for once, stood with the masses (unless you want to tell me the masses are for the 3rd term). hence, at this moment, he is a hero, albeit temporarily ( or pseudo hero) but what can the people do? there are no heroes anyway, so let the people support any momentary hero that stands on their side.

why not?
Politics › Re: Open Fight Between Obasanjo And Atiku: Bad For Third Term! by toshmann(m): 5:43pm On Apr 08, 2006
davidylan:
@onagugaola

True heroes would have resigned the minute he was called "disloyal" by his own boss.
true heroes do what the masses want. neither obj nor atiku are true heroes. none of the present politicians is a true hero. what we have are temporary/pseudo heroes. that's why OBJ was a hero in 1979 and a villain(?) in 2006. for the moment, what atiku stands for is what the masses want. so he can act as our hero (for the moment). let us benefit from that situation and support him.

this is the best way a nation that is bereft of true heroes moves on.

@old glory,

if the US/UK will bully OBJ out of aso rock i would be most grateful. if they can help nigeria install decent democracy, i would love them for it. but you see, these countries would not do that. the US would not want to invest the life of any marine for that. all they need is that oil. do you think the US loves nigeria? think again. they want the oil. if a dictator comes in today and begins to do what the US wants (give them steady oil) they wont mind.

if the US loved democracy so much why would they overtly or covertly support an attempt to undemocratically remove a democratically elected president in venezuela. the US is highly democratic, no doubt, but when it comes to international politics, the US is the most selfish country on earth. anything they do, they think of americas gain.

that is why i don't want them into our politics, b/c they will come to look for thier gain and once they get what they want they'll leave.believe me. they did it in iraq in the early 90s, after the 1st gulf war, the US encouraged an uprising in iraq against saddam. the people believed the US and revolted and saddam crushed the rebellion with the maximum military force. the people died. more than ten thousand people were killed. others kept disappearing. the americans sat comfortably in washington and condemned the killings and made it a debate in their congress while poor people died the other side.

do you want a similar thing for your country?
Politics › Re: Should The US And Great Britain Pressure Obasanjo Against 3rd Term? by toshmann(m): 9:08pm On Apr 07, 2006
note that i don't really blame the west entirely for our problems, i only said our problems can be traced to the british rule. they laid a precarious foundation for our country. they were purported to have intensionally installed a govt that they can manipulate from london. and that has been it since then(more often than not)

anyway, i respect ur opinion but i hold on to mine.
Politics › Re: Should The US And Great Britain Pressure Obasanjo Against 3rd Term? by toshmann(m): 9:04pm On Apr 07, 2006
with all due respects, old glory, do you think sanctions will bring any meaningful outcome? iraq has been under sanctions for years, did it affect sadam hussein effectively? no. the poor masses in iraq bore the pains. hussein continued to live in mansions and palaces.

it wont help us. the US wont really help us to install democracy. they can only advice. and history shows that they have yet to successfully install democracy in any country where there was none. and more importantly i'm yet to know of any country where US intervention led to political stability.

they tell OBJ all sorts of things about how important and respected nigeria is, and go behind the slowpoke to make gerogatory statements about nigeria. i once read a document from the state dept about nigeria. i wish i can get to it to show you how those guys see us.
