if only the govt had acted first/fast in response to the issue, it wouldn't have degenerated to this.

Na wa. Nigeria is solely on its own. Well, we will stand on our own. Hope our leaders borrow some sense with this situation on ground.

A government that cannot develop its own country, begs for aid up and down, cannot protect its citizens, cannot act when it should, is that a government? No one has any respect for Nigeria any longer in the comity of nations.

omenka:
Emotions aside, she told no lie in her comment. That is not to justify the situation, not at all.

From the perspective of our country men and women engaging in crimes outside, precipitating these kind of backlash, she's right. In addition, from the perspective of our people hating themselves especially across ethnic, religious and political divide, she's also right. The way we treat ourselves at home influences the way strangers treat us outside.

Nevertheless, tempers and emotions are running high at the moment, therefore, anything other than sympathies and supportive words will be misconstrued as taking sides with the enemy.

God help us.
Like you are any different. Unless you have changed, you just pointed all fingers at yourself.

Let's quit the hypocrisy.
It is appalling..
Truth is,a typical Nigerian man doesn't care about what happened to some Nigerians in South Africa.
We are just trying to follow the trend and appear like good patriotic citizens who love each other..
Forget the posts and hate speech on twitter ,Facebook etc..
It is just for social media attention..
I repeat,as long as the killing of Nigerians do not affect the price of garri,a typical Nigerian doesn't care...
I woke up and decided to write about it too..
But I'm so sorry i cannot pretend to care when I really don't..
If I'm killed today,I will be buried and nobody will care.
We will post about it,empathize with the families of the victims, make it seem like we love and care about these people, but in reality,we don't ..
For me,I don't know them, and they haven't helped me in any way before so I swear,I do not care..
This is the bitter truth..

Mschew.

This is a lesson to all those that come online and abuse & insult their fellow Nigerians under the guise of tribalism. Now that you have finished washing yourselves, others are washing you now. To the rest of the world, you are simply Nigerian, no one knows which part of Naija you are from, you are a Nigerian simple. The earlier we focus on our commonalities and the way forward as a nation, the better.

Nigerian celebrities would mount pressure on the government to do what exactly?

There's already a sustained pressure from opposition and the public

The only reason government can't do anything right now is because their hands are tied.

Don't get it twisted.
Celebrities have INFLUENCE and should use that influence. They can be a voice for the voiceless. Let them add their voice to this, it is not too much. These are human lives at stake.
