Following his recent assertion that the introduction of N5, 000 note as planned by CBN would cause inflation and kill small businesses, the Presidency has described former president, chief Olusegun Obsanjo as an ordinary Nigerian who has the right to comment on issues of national importance, noting that the Federal Government was not wrong in its approval of the denomination. According to the Senior Special Assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe, “Obasanjo, as an “ordinary” individual had the freedom to speak on issues.” He said: “Obasanjo is an ordinary citizen. He has the right to speak on issues of national importance, but his views are not sacrosanct. But Obasanjo has right to his own opinion.” While reproving criticisms by opposition parties that the introduction of the higher denomination would cause inflation noted in an interaction with experts that it would not have negative effects on the nation’s economy. He said, “It is a project of the Central Bank of Nigeria and it is also important to carry people along. From my investigation and discussion with experts, there is no assurance that it will lead to inflation. “There is $1000 bill in the United States and that has not negatively affected the economy there. “It is not carried by all Americans, but by those who need it. The N5000 note will also be like that. We should not dissipate energy on that. “We over-politicise issues in this country. This note will not affect the cashless policy of the government as being speculated in some quarters as well.” The medical doctor turned politician however, assured that the reports of all the committees and sub-committees set up by the president would soon be made known to the public. http://dailypost.com.ng/2012/09/10/you-entitled-opinions-presidency-blasts-obasanjo-comment-n5000-note/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=you-entitled-opinions-presidency-blasts-obasanjo-comment-n5000-note |
… He paid $5000 for the invite … Fresh facts have emerged that Leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria, Bola Tinubu, paid $5000 to obtain the generic invitation from the Democratic Party campaign office, but claimed he was personally invited to attend by President Barack Obama as leader of Nigeria opposition. Obama, it has been revealed, did not personally extend what has been dubbed by Tinubu “a gold card invitation” to him to attend the Democratic party convention in Charlotte, North Carolina. contrary to claims by him and his aides. This is not the first time Tinubu has been enmeshed in controversy bothering on false claims. The controversy surrounding his academic qualifications, his claim of being a Certified Public Accountant, and discrepancy in his age records are still fresh in memory. According to investigations by reporters of a United States based online medium, Sharpedgenews.com, the invite received by Tinubu was a generic kind sent out to donors by the campaign organization. The medium which is attending the convention, also revealed that the DNC denied ever inviting Tinubu on any official capacity as the “ leader of opposition” in Nigeria The media team of Tinubu had claimed that he was invited to the Democratic National Convention in his right as the leader of the opposition in Nigeria. According to his media aide Sunday Dare “ Tinubu will be at the ring side as the Democratic Party conduct activities that will culminate in the nomination of President Barrack Obama as its candidate for the November 2012 Presidential elections in the USA.” “Tinubu receives a gold card invitation which is prime and with this, he will be joined by three other eminent personalities – Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti state, Speaker Lagos state House of Assembly Adeyemi Ikuforiji and former Commissioner for Information and Strategy in Lagos state, Mr Dele Alake.” His statement added DNC sources irked by the suggestive news reports which is being interpreted that Barack Obama may have extended a preferential invitation to Mr. Tinubu in spite of similar politicians in his native country of Nigeria, said that such notion was further from reality as was claimed by the ACN leader The DNC source explained that the invite that was given to Tinubu was a generic type that similarly went to whoever donated more than $5,000 to the Obama campaign. “The invitation card sent to Tinubu, the former senator from Nigeria, was generic and it generally goes from the campaign organization and not personally from President Obama,” the highly placed source explained under condition of anonymity. The source said that it would be difficult for anyone to implicate Obama in attempts at foisting a preferred leadership on Nigeria or Africa as that would negate the philosophy of Washington’s new international engagement. “Nigerians are capable of determining its destiny,” said the source. The source said that politicians are free to strategize, while explaining that “it is immoral to deceive anyone that we are who we are not.” “This gentleman is not like your popular national icon, businessman Moshood Abiola, who was well-grounded and at home with many people in government and private sector. Americans don’t want to be dragged into the affairs of any country through personal preferences. The man probably did what he had to do in order to gain access to the convention ground.” The source said. http://africanheraldexpress.com/blog7/2012/09/08/tinubu-lied-about-obamas-invitation-to-democratic-party-convention-says-dnc/ |
eudoh940:Bros, why did you quote the whole thread only o say this? It doesn't make sense now. The thread is already there for us to see, you don't have to quote it again, plzzzz. It's too long. Thanks |
Why don't the CBN mint N5,000 coins instead of notes? Let me now see how they would carry out their money laundering with the 5k coins. They are just making things easy 4 themselves. Afterall, they know that the common man does not even need the 5k note. How many people even use the already existing 1k note sef? |

ASSOCIATION of Senior Staff of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institutions (ASSBIFI) has given the management of Mainstreet Bank Plc one week ultimatum to settle the entitlement of sacked workers or face a nationwide disruption of operations. The association also called on Nigerians to intervene in the issue, as the management of Mainstreet Bank Plc had refused to settle its sacked members. Speaking at a press conference in Lagos, on Thursday, president of ASSBIFI, Mr Sunday Salako, expressed displeasure over the manner at which the management of the bank handled industrial matters, stressing that the association had demonstrated enough maturity while the offensive lasted. “The ultimatum, which started today, had till next Thursday to lapse, as the tripartite committee set up by the Minister of Labour and Productivity, Mr Emeka Wogu, had concluded its sittings and submitted report to the minister on August 13. The meeting requested the bank and its principals to look into the payment of the disputed benefits, but the management had failed to honour the agreement,” Salako said. He added that “now that ASSBIFI has obeyed this resolution totally, by waiting for the outcome and implementation of the recommendations, we should not be blamed for any action taken by next week as the management of the bank had refused to comply with the recommendations made by the committee.” Efforts to get the spokesman of the bank, Moshood Isamotu, to react failed, as he did not pick his call or reply the text message sent to him by the Nigerian Tribune. http://tribune.com.ng/index.php/news/47241-nationwide-strike-looms-in-mainstreet-bank-as-labour-issues-1-week-ultimatum |

Stallion77: so whats your point? you and the lawmaker? My point is in support of what the Lawmaker said. Why the insecurity in Nigeria seems to be out of hand is due to the publicity some idle minds give it via the social media. Some even spread bomb scare and terrifying rumours through the social media. If u follow international news, u'll see that some countries' cases are more pathetic. |
While it has been made obvious that a letter to the Lagos Ministry of Local Government got approval, mandating payment of N4.5million as participation fee to the organizing company, which included return ticket, accommodation and "capacity building tour" of the US, how come the delegation went there to lend "moral support" to Asiwaju Tinubu? The support is so "moral" to the extent that local councils that could not afford the money were debited against their monthly JAAC. In total, about N288million went into the consultant’s purse. Oh what a moral support! |
This is quite impressive. I'm happy for you girls. Thanks be to Almighty GOD who made this possible. ![]() |
After much delay, the controversial Sovereign Wealth Fund (SWF) will become operational October 2, 2012 following the federal government's approval of its Board and appointment of its key management officers. The SWF will commence with an initial capital of $1 billion. Also, the Excess Crude Account (ECA) which is a fore runner of the SWF has increased to $7.35billion. Disclosing these at a media briefing in Abuja, Coordinating Minister for the Economy and the Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, said commencement of the SWF operations was the result of a rigorous and transparent process which lasted almost a year. She named a former Board member of First Bank Plc, Alhaji Mahey Rasheed, as Chairman of the SWF Board while Mr. Uche Orji, former Managing Director of JP Morgan, was announced as Chief Executive Officer of the Fund, for a tenure of five years. FG Appoints Ex-JP Morgan MD to Head Sovereign Fund Other members of the Board as announced included, Mr. Arnold Akpe, Mr. Jide Zeitlin, Mrs. Bili Awosika, Barrister Bisi Soyebo (SAN), Alhaji Hassan Usman and Mrs. Stella Ojekwe-Onyejeli, who will serve as Chief Risk Officer of the Fund. Okonjo-Iweala disclosed that the selection process involved a professional services company, KPMG, which helped in sourcing the 730 applications that were submitted. The minister disclosed that First Bank of Nigeria and an American-based banking and financial services company UBS have been appointed by the Federal government to manage the Fund. She explained that 20 per cent of the fund would go to each of its three target funds namely the Future Generations Fund, Nigerian Infrastructure Fund and the Stabilisation Fund while the board would decide how to invest the remaining 40 per cent. The SWF is aimed at saving money for future generations, funding infrastructure and defending the economy against commodity price shocks. She revealed that auditor and consultancy firm KPMG helped to hire the SWF board. President Goodluck Jonathan had signed a bill into law in May last year authorising the SWF, but powerful state governors originally blocked the fund, saying it was unconstitutional. They later agreed to it, though with an initial fund of $1 billion, a fraction of the $7.35 billion savings currently in the Excess Crude Account (ECA). Will ACN give funds to all the states to train and maintain the state police? |
ACN is not being sensible here at all. Have they considered the dangers this would pose at the state level? They have not considered the dangers state governors would inflict on families of their political enemies, using the state police. This is just one disadvantage out of many others. They are only saying this just because GEJ said Nigeria is not yet ripe for state police. They just want to counter everything GEJ says, whether true or false. Assuming Jonathan supported the idea, you would have heard ACN kicking against it. Opposition by fire by force! |
History will be made today in Anambra State as President Goodluck Jonathan arrives the state to commission the first ever private refinery, Orient Refinery, owned by the Orient Petroleum Resources Plc, a holding company with four subsidiaries. Apart from the commissioning of the refinery, the President will unveil a statue of the late Igbo leader, Emeka Odumegwu- Ojukwu, at the Upper Iweka Highway in Onitsha. It will be recalled that the Anambara State Government renamed the popular Upper Iweka road after Emeka Ojukwu, who was buried on March 2, 2012. Jonathan is also expected to commission the multi-million naira SABmiller Brewery located in Onitsha. Already, the state is in a festive mood as the major roads and streets in Awka, Onistha and other major towns to be visited by Jonathan have been cleared of bushes and illegal structures, just as billboards have been mounted at strategic locations by different groups to welcome the President. Security has also been beefed up in Awka and Onitsha and Anambra East in preparation for the President's visit. The state Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Chief Joe Martins Uzodike, has announced that all markets in Onitsha North and South and Ogaru local government areas, particularly those within the precincts of the Bridge Head and Upper Iweka areas would be shut throughout the duration of the President's visit. Similarly, no motorist will be allowed to drive on the Niger Bridge, Upper Iweka and Inosi Onira Zik Round About from 9:am till the departure of Mr. President from Onitsha at about 4:pm. Meanwhile, Governor Peter Obi said the people are ready to receive the President. He said the facilities to be commissioned by President would generate at least 15,000 direct jobs and over 10,000 indirect jobs. Obi spoke when he led a delegation of members representing the state in the House of Representatives on inspection of the projects. The governor said his administration empowered private sector initiative and entrepreneurs because they had the potentials to create necessary employment that would turn around the state's economy. He said any economic growth without stimulating job opportunities was bound to collapse. The member representing Ogbaru Federal Constituency, Mr. Afam Ogene, praised the governor for creating enabling environment for foreign and local investments to thrive. The member representing Anaocha, Njikoka and Dunukofia Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Mrs. Uche Ekwunife, said Governor Obi had initiated economic revolution by attracting investments. Mrs. Ekwunife said the various investments attracted to the state by the governor would assist in addressing unemployment. http://www.ipaidabribenaija.com/latest-news/read.php?id=8496 |
I'm just wondering the possibility of a former national security adviser of a country to sell out secrets about his country or leaders. And what if IBB is truly a part-owner of Julius Berger, and so what? Anybody can invest in any good business of his/her choice if the opportunity is there. |
EXPOSED! “Osama Bin Laden Was Unarmed And Already Dead When We Bursted Into His Bedroom” – Retired Navy SEAL Who Was Part Of Team That Saw The Terror Leader Die Contrary to various media outlets report that Osama bin Laden was armed and showed no intention of giving up without a fight, a blow-by-blow account of what transpired in the early morning hours of May 2, 2011 has been revealed in a soon to be released book. The book, No Easy Day: The Firsthand Account of the Mission That Killed Osama bin Laden, was written anonymously under the name Mark Owen, who was one of the SEAL Team Six members who saw the terror leader die in May 2011. Art Cover: Book Scheduled For Release On September 4 A copy of the book, obtained by The Huffington Post, says that the mission was quite unlike the popular version of what went on at the house in Abbottabad. Owen wrote that a member of the elite squad saw the terror leader as he ducked into his bedroom, and the soldiers, who were climbing stairs to the third floor, followed. He said: ‘We were less than five steps from getting to the top when I heard suppressed shots. BOP. BOP. I couldn’t tell from my position if the rounds hit the target or not. The man disappeared into the dark room.’ While Owen writes that as bin Laden lay dying, he and another commando ‘trained our lasers on his chest and fired several rounds. The bullets tore into him, slamming his body into the floor until he was motionless.’ The book described bin Laden as wearing a white t-shirt, loose-fitting tan pants and a tunic. While photographing the terror leader’s body, two guns were found in the room, but neither was loaded The book was originally slated to hit book stores on September 11 but will now come out seven days earlier Meanwhile, it has already stirred a considerable amount of controversy as it was revealed that the Pentagon, the CIA, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, and even the White House appeared to have no idea that the book was being written. The autobiography may also be heading to the big screen, as it was revealed on Sunday that director Steven Spielberg met with the retired commando to discuss making a movie about his experience? |
